Per my previous review about our Primary Bathroom, once again these Supermen completely remodeled our Kitchen. My husband and I didn't even farm out the work to get estimates, that is how much we trust and value Austinkitchenandbath.net. Not only did they completely remodel our kitchen (check out the picture at the website listed above), but they also redid all the flooring in the house. They build the kitchen cabinets from scratch and they are incredible, floor to ceiling. We had them come back in and add canned lights in our family room and we redid the fireplace with tile, floor to ceiling. We also bought a live edge mantle online. This company provides you a discount on tile if you go to The Tile Store in Gateway Shopping Center. We cannot say enough positive things about AB&K. REMODELING AND HOME REPAIR RECOMMENDATION. Central Texas area. Our home flooded while we were on vacation, requiring wallboard replacement and painting in several areas. In addition, we decided to install a longer countertop in our laundry room and replace a stand alone sink with a drop in model. Despite our home being 17 years old, Rick perfectly matched the paint throughout the damaged areas, and through expensive research, was able to find and have manufactured a Wilsonart countertop to match others in the same room. He also constructed new cabinet doors that exactly matched the design of our other cabinet doors, and refinished our dining room table extension that was also damaged by the flood. They get one star because there is no way to post zero stars. Do not waste your time with these people. Although we read the mixed reviews we stopped by the shop and really liked the staff and the selection for our bathroom remodel. Rick came to the house promptly and spend nearly two hours with us. Then we had a follow up appointment at the shop where we designed the bathroom for another two hours. He gave us a list of vendors and told us to pick everything out and that he would be back in touch with us within 10 days with our complete bid. We spent days and days in the middle of a pandemic getting samples and making decisions. That was in June. Three phone calls and two emails later we have obviously given up. I don't know how they survive. A complete bust and waste of time. read more

Save yourself! Rick will make you sell you on high end materials and promise on time, exceptional work. What you'll get is the total opposite. We're 10 weeks in to a 4 week project. They still haven't delivered all of our materials. They took my 50% (tens of thousands), waited 3 weeks to start, tore up my house, and ASKED FOR MORE MONEY because they spent it all on another project. Mind you, not a single cabinet or countertop had been installed yet. They flooded my house and lied about it. I had to relocate my family (pregnant wife and 16 month old daughter) during sxsw (are you serious? There is no where to go), and when I fired him after repeat chances to right the wrongs, Rick kept my 5k Countertop, caused me thousands in repairs, and still kept making promises he still hasn't kept. Want the job done right the first time? Call Austin Kitchen & Bath! Rick and Scott removed and reinstalled a falling undermount sink another contractor (we eventually discovered) had installed with melamine blocks (basically crappy cardboard... amazing it lasted this long). Rick and Scott did a great job! Check out the uploaded pics and see what real blocks look like. BTW, we found AKB about six months after our kitchen remodel five years ago and AKB remodeled our master bath into one with a beautiful walk in shower. Superb work all the way around! Oh, how I wish this could have gone better! Two stars only because our experience started off great. We were checking out different vendors for updates to a duplex we just purchased and randomly stopped by the store while driving down Burnet. Kenyon was very helpful at first and was very up front about telling us that we needed to think more about what design would be functional for us and what brands are the most cost efficient for what we needed. After about a week or so, we went back to their office to place our order, and they directed us to go to a granite yard to pick out our countertops. That went well, and that is when we met Rick. That same day, we asked for a final quote, based on the countertop we picked and the cabinet style we wanted. Rick and Kenyon called back that day to make some adjustments based on the kitchen layout and promised to send out a quote that day or the next day. Our goal was to place our order on Monday in order to get the ball running as soon as possible. It has been almost a week. We've called the office almost every day and have left multiple messages. We finally stopped by a few days ago, and the quote they provided somehow jumped by over 1k since the last time we spoke, with no explanation why. When we asked for a detailed layout, they requested that we sign a contract first before committing to do the drawing since "that takes up a lot of time." Kenyon, who we originally worked with, is now nowhere to be found. When we call, he is never there. We leave messages that never get returned. Rick is always in and out of the office, which is frustrating because he seems to be the big decision maker there and is rarely there to make a decision. I'm giving them two stars for the decent experience we had in the beginning, but the follow through left a lot to be desired. I really hate situations where I have to leave a negative review for a local business, but I think it's pertinent for customers to be treated with at least a modicum of decency, especially when they can easily go to a bigger, probably cheaper company. read more

Our initial phone call started off great. Very polite, but after a few minutes into our conversation I started to get a bad feeling. It went bad when I described what we wanted and without hesitation or EVER setting foot in our home I was given a quote of $50,00.00 as a starting point. I was very surprised and when I asked how a number can be given without ever setting foot into onto our home, I was told that this is their starting point for any project period. Rick - Awesome/nice guy. He gets 3 stars for being an awesome/nice human being. Unfortunately I can't say how good or bad his work is since it was like pulling teeth to get him to respond to emails/phone calls. I started reaching out in February 2021 because of the wonderful Yelp and Google reviews, but I see now that most of the wonderful reviews are from pre-pandemic. Several of the Google reviews lament about how much time customers waste with Rick. I'd like to add to that opinion through my experience. I think one of our most valuable commodities is "time" - I really hate having mine wasted. Not enough time on the planet. If someone can't do x, y, z, then just tell me instead of leaving me hanging. Read the reviews - there is a common thread - Rick seemingly has no interest in bidding jobs. Initially Rick said he was busy moving his showroom. Ah - but it's not a showroom now, so one can't see the cabinets - it's a shop for constructing the cabinets, etc. Ok cool, but take 10 seconds to text that he will be months from a response. Then after he comes out he says estimate will come the following week. Crickets. I do my part - in the week following our meeting, I'm driving around Austin meeting with all of Rick's recommended wholesalers. One of them needs measurements from Rick - but even the wholesaler couldn't get the info from Rick - and it's been a month! I did my homework choosing my materials. Rick says estimate is coming "next week." Nope. I write again, estimate is coming "tomorrow"- Nope - that was a week ago. In my last contact with him by phone, he said that he has a second job as a furniture consultant and is unable to be reached by phone or email during the week. Ask yourself, do you really want a contractor who is so difficult to reach before the job has even started? Won't that be a sign of what's to come once you give him your $ for a deposit or you are left in the middle of a demolition zone in your house? I'm sure Rick is a terrific craftsman - I could just tell from talking to him, but... then there's the ghosting. Ugh. So frustrating! I agree with Ruth B. - I hate leaving a negative review for such a nice guy - but I'm hoping that this will actually help him brush up on his communication skills and actually pick up lots of customers by improving in this area. Give him a try but don't go for more than a month waiting for his estimate as it won't be coming. I am now behind on my project as I wasn't even going to get another estimate since Rick was so convincing and I've done other remodels before. read more

I can't comment on the quality of work because we spent over a month wasting our time with this business and they never delivered on anything they promised so there was no way we were letting them in our house. We went in needing a custom bathroom vanity and spent an hour working with Tamera and Rick picking out the wood, countertop, vanity style, and hardware and they wrote down all of that information as well as our address and contact information then told us they would give us a quote. A few days went by and I hadn't heard anything so I called them only to find out they lost all of our information and didn't know who we were or what we had spent an hour picking out. Tamera told us that she was new and tried to blame it on a previous employee but didn't realize that she was actually the one who had helped us and took our information just a few days prior. We ended up having to go back into the store and picking it out all over again. At one point Tamera told us that we were probably better off getting the vanity from somewhere else, but we said we had spent an hour picking out exactly what we wanted and we still wanted it. We were also told that they didn't have the quartz we picked out and would have to purchase the entire slab for a small vanity, but when we were looking at the extra pieces in the back we pointed out that they had the exact quartz we wanted. She apologized and said she didn't see it. Again we waited a few days for the quote and heard nothing, then a week later I contacted them and Tamera said that Rick would provide the quote either that day or the next.....then nothing for another week. I finally started calling the store asking for Rick but Tamera just kept saying that he wasn't in yet and then finally that "well he was in the store but only just for a little bit." She asked if I was calling about the quote we still needed and I said yes.....and we never heard from them again. read more

Rick and his team did a wonderful job of working within our very strict budget to create the kitchen I dreamed of in our new home. Rick wasn't afraid of special requests and worked creatively to accomodate all of my wants, needs, and wishes. Rick helped us to source ideal materials for our kitchen and made suggestions that helped enhance the functionality of the space. Additionally, we have a toddler and his team did an excellent job working to accomodate nap schedules, playgroups, and cleaning up diligently to ensure our little one's safety in our home during construction. Several months after the remodel, when I had one or two minor issues (so small that I can no longer even recall what it was), Rick came out personally to fix them and ensure that everything was still meeting his standard of excellence. One of my dogs recently chewed one of the cabinet facings that housed the built in trash can, and Rick- who paid careful attention to my love for my baking and cookbook collection- also helped me to come up with a cookbook cabinet solution that will be built to put in its place (and will be far less enticing to our hungry pups!). We plan to do a gut remodel of our master bathroom in the near future, and we will use Austin Kitchen and Bath for that as well without hesitation. Their quality control, personal service, and attention to detail are fabulous and I am beyond happy with the care they put into creating a communal space that has become to hub of our home. read more

I did not think we would be calling Rick so soon, but.... We found that old lumpy carpet and wheelchairs/walkers do not mix. We made the decision that the carpet had to come out in the master bedroom, so we called Rick and got a quote for a vinyl floating floor. This is not our first experience with this type of flooring. We had it installed in our own home after a flood ruined our engineered wood floor. Rick sent me to his supplier to order the flooring under his account (and at his price) then gave us a quote for the installation. We gave him the go ahead, and a few days later, the new floor was installed. It took a couple of days to finish as the bathroom had three closets and a small room for the toilet, which they took up and put back down as part of the job. The floor looks SUPER and both rooms were left debris free. We are all very pleased with the work AND the price. Rick will be the first call we make as soon as time and finances allow more work to be done! Another five star job! read more

Like Vanessa and Tera, Rick came out promptly to do measurements, suggestions, and said he'd be contacting me and that if I didn't hear from him, I should "keep after him". I had a smallish job in the bathroom (new shower surround and installation of fixtures), but then I was going for new countertops in the Kitchen, and we have a LOT of countertops and we'd talked about actual Texas granite. I was excited. This was between Thanksgiving and Christmas 2012. It's February now. I had "kept after him with a phone call after the holidays. Not a word after he called and left a message that he'd be mailing me a quote the 4th week in January - it never came. Honestly, I had great hopes, but 60 days before even a quote? This leaves me more than a bit disappointed and confused. I hope for Rick's sake that business is indeed great for him because he won't now be getting mine. And it's a darn shame as what he has done looks really, really good. I would've appreciated a call just to tell me WHY. Maybe it was something I could understand. But now it's too late. read more

I should have written this review months ago. Apologies for slowness. My quality...certainly can not say the same for Rick Sparks and Austin Kitchen and Bath. Once I emailed Rick about my remodeling needs, he responded immediately. I was in the middle of remodeling 2 bathrooms, kitchen and various other upgrades in my home. When the contractor I was working with started on the baths, I was worried and less than confident that the job would be done correctly and professionally. Rick came right over and assessed the situation frankly and provided great advice. He was able to work skillfully with the existing contractor and was sensitive to my needing him (current contractor) to stay happy and finish up projects already in the works. I had Rick remove a bathtub and replace it with a walk-in shower and re-tile the 2nd bath (the other contractor had done a sloppy job). His crew always arrived on time and Rick checked in on the work multiple times each day...except for one. Turns out he was hospitalized (emergency), but showed up the very next day when he probably should have been resting and recovering. Now that is dedication! It was a pleasure working with Rick and his crew. They all went the extra mile to make sure the work was being done according to my wishes. Took the time to communicate thoroughly and left the site extremely clean each day. I love my bathrooms and will certainly call on Austin Kitchen and Bath the next time I have a home upgrade project. Definitely use this company for remodel/repairs!!! At the beginning, I thought it too good to be true. However, AK&B was better than even my greatest expectations. It began with the owner, Rick, explaining how long he had been in business and the services they offer. He then explained that there was no job too small, even though most contractors wouldn't even consider a small wall repair. I considered this as "good business" and was ecstatic (this was after eight calls to different contractors explaining what the issue was). Every contractor I contacted stated they wouldn't be able to get to it for several weeks, if not months. Rick stated that they would arrive between 9:30 and 10am. To my surprise, they were on time and even recognized the note on our door explaining not to ring the doorbell or knock due to a pet undergoing heartworm treatment. I met John at the door and he was the most polite and personable contractor I've ever had to deal with. This was only the beginning... Before he started, he fully explained what he was going to be doing. He kept me updated on the status along the way while remaining diligent on the job itself. You have to understand why this was so important; I had been dreading this repair for several months and had not had the time to attempt the job myself. John made it extremely easy on me, while making sure the job was done correctly. After completion, he went through the repair with me and explained how to prevent further damage in the future. He went even further to repair a gap in the baseboard that had been done incorrectly by the previous owner. I would have paid more for the job, simply due to John's professionalism and kindness. I hardly write reviews for jobs completed unless they are done poorly, but this was worth the time. If you need a remodel/repair or even custom cabinets, do yourself a favor and hire these guys. Almost a year after he finished, I called Rick because of 3 small issues, an electrical switch, some discolored grout on the shower floor, and an issue with the shower door. I'm so impressed by this company. I had a quote from another company for a particular quartz I wanted for my kitchen island. After agreeing to move forward the other company last minute increased my quote by $700 and never even called back to discuss the price. I looked up other retailers for the quartz online and found Austin Kitchen and Bath. Preston called me back later that day with a quote and the next morning the owner Rick personally came to my house and measured my island. Within a week the island was installed in perfect condition and the owner came to oversee the installation. He later told me the quartz company last minute increased the price but he honored his original quote. I appreciate the integrity of this business as well as the personal attention. Even though this was a small job with a very busy business, they called me back quickly and made our job a priority! Thank you so much to the Rick and Preston. Terrible experience all around. Initially stopped in while I was in the area, Preston took my information and what I needed and walked me through the showroom. Looking to place an order quickly as I already had contractors coming in to demo in the next 1-2 Weeks. Decided on a granite countertop and vanity cabinet selection and requested a quote. Less than a week later, in the area again and stopped to see how the quote was coming along. Was told they had actually lost my initial form. Re-filled out another form, drew out the drawer layout for the floating vanity and provided them with specific measurements. Several emails, phone calls later, I still don't have a quote. One excuse after another. Was told they needed more details which I promptly provided. 3 WEEKS later, I finally get a quote for the WRONG size. Preston tried the convince me that the 30" height was "standard" for a floating vanity. I asked him to re-price it out at custom 22" (like I asked for originally). More emails and still no response. Wasted 3+ weeks with this place and now am 6 weeks behind on getting a vanity/countertop/sinks installed when I finally went to another place. Do yourself a favor and just keep driving. read more

Where do I begin?! Rick Spears and his crew are amazing! After a terrible experience with a contractor with whom we had a great experience the first two jobs there was no way on earth he was going to be asked back to remodel our master bath. To say we suffered from Post Traumatic Remodel Disorder would be an understatement but the time had come and our postage stamp of a bathroom had to go. With some trepidation I called Austin Kitchen & Bath. I arranged a time for Rick to come and look at the project. He was amazing! He offered many suggestions and options I would never have thought of and many were ways to reduce some of our costs. His crew was timely, clean and went above and beyond. The best example of this was while we were out of town for my niece's wedding. Thanks in part to our previous contractor, the water line to our refrigerator broke. Rick's guy, Scott, was working back in the back of the house and started hearing a funny noise but couldn't really identify it and assumed it was coming from outside. Thankfully, his curiosity got the best of his and he went to figure out what it was and saw water running out of the kitchen into the hallway on my new hardwood floors. Scott literally took off his shirt and whatever else he could to start mopping up the mess. He called Rick and he and his sweet wife came and started cleaning up the water, put big industrial fans out and did their best to mitigate any damage. Did I say this was on a Sunday! While we were out of town! He waited to call to tell me about it as to not ruin our trip to Hawaii but also to make sure I knew prior to arriving back at the house. We did have to replace some flooring because of water damage but had it not been for Scott and the fact that they wanted to work while we were gone to stay on schedule and lessen our disruption we would have been remodeling a remodeling job that was 6 months old! All that aside.... Our bathroom is MARVELOUS!!! And on budget to the penny! Not nickel and dimed to death like our previous contractor. I will be using him again in the next few months to replace our front doors and any other project we ever need. We are customers for life! read more

We've remodeled our house from top to bottom, using over 10 contractors, and the only one I recommend without hesitation is Rick at Austin Kitchen and Bath. He and his crew did a BEAUTIFUL job on our kitchen. They can do it all! They removed walls, helped us with the space planning, installed everything and made it all the centerpiece of the whole house. We had a tight timeline over the holidays and Rick and his guys worked diligently all through the holidays to make it happen. Not only is the work great, but what really sets Rick apart is that he finalizes all the details from the outset. He puts a tremendous amount of time into a bid, so you can work out all the details up front. This eliminates a lot of the confusion or drama that can happen with other contractors. Rick builds beautiful kitchens without all the drama that can come with a remodel. We ran into one scheduling issue when the granite supplier was closed between Christmas and New Years. Rick asked us if we wanted to get granite somewhere else, or wait until after the 1st. We opted to get granite at another supplier in town, costing Rick much more, and he didn't complain at all. He just wanted us to be happy with the result and the timeline. He also built a beautiful custom vanity for our guest bath for us. Excellent craftsmanship! read more
