Party of 2 My 3 star rating is based upon the food. The restaurant is beautiful & the staff was very friendly. However, the food was a real disappointment. We ordered the She Crab soup & it was horrible. When they brought out the soup it had a distinct fishy smell & it looked like a watered down milk base with some crab thrown in. The taste was equally poor & for $9 a bowl, it should be an amazing dish. We also ordered the blackened salmon sandwich with chips. The piece of salmon was a very generous portion & seasoned well + the chips were delicious , so we would recommend this! The restaurant is beautiful with lots of seating that overlooks the awesome intracoastal view, so we will definitely make another visit. read more

Oysters Rockafeller should be broiled or roasted. Mine were neither. She crab soup should not be called "she crab" as it is not authentically "she crab" soup by ingredients. Should be renamed crab bisque as to not be misleading. Service was super slow. My meal was basically inedible and we had to wait a really long time for the check. read more

Heard mixed reviews about this place but all you can eat crab legs made us give it a try. Had 5:00 reservations and get there about 10 minutes early. I felt like the girls running the front did not know how to handle customers. They said we could wait at the bar until they had our table ready. The young lady tending the bar was amazing. So far so good. At 5:15 nothing. I checked with the girls up front at 5:20 and they were both on their phones and acted like they didn't have a clue. We went back to the bar and at 5:30 they finally came to tell us that the table would be ready soon. Our waitress did a great job. She stayed on top of getting us reorders on the crab legs. The crab legs were not that good but for all you can eat, our expectations were not real high but we could have gotten better crab legs at a buffet in North Myrtle. Menu did not indicate gluten free. Server Grant basically said no entree except the steaks were GF. I don't think he was familiar with GF or willing to ask the chef. Ordered the filet mignon medium rare and it was overcooked. Did not send it back as everyone else had their food. Grant offered me a free dessert. I picked a key lime pie that I could avoid eating the crust. After a long wait, it turns out they were out of it. Grant was very rushed trying to serve all the waterside tables, so service was very slow. Getting food from the kitchen was also extremely slow. Others at our table felt their food was mediocre. Heard some other tables making complaints as well. While being waterside was very nice, it did not compensate for the slowness of service, the mediocre food, or the very high cost. Spent a wonderful. late afternoon, overlooking the ICW at Blue Drum yesterday! Grant was an astute server, allowing us to sit & talk for a long time, patient enough to let us order when we were ready and not on his time schedule. But, I have to say, after living in the Myrtle Beach area for over 5 years, they have the BEST she crab soup I have had anywhere; and I always try the she crab soup whenever I see it on any menu. So much crab in the soup! And, the ambiance is lovely, whether it is in the cozy booths or the outside area overlooking the water! read more

Terrible customer service. We had a reservation for a party of 3 at 7pm. We arrived 15 minutes early. We were told the table that was "assigned to us was not available yet". Ok. We were fine to wait a bit. However, many other parties were seated after us. Some who had reservations and some who didn't. It made no sense. When I asked about it at 7:40 we were again told the "table that had been assigned to us was still not available" and that because we booked online instead of over the phone our reservation could have an hour to an hour and a half wait. So basically the "reservation" was useless. No one cared. Whatsoever. Won't be back. This wasn't our first bad experience here but it will certainly be our last. read more

There was a group of six ( 2 local, 2 from NH, 2 from Texas). We arrive just after 2 which contributed to the review. I had a dozen oysters and then the mussels . The issue I had Was 1. Only Texas Pete Hot Sauce which I had to wait for. For me, not the best choice for oysters but I like my hot sauce HOT. 2. I only got 3 packs of crackers for 12 oysters. Not enough but the server brought more after I asked but by them my oysters were in cold water instead of on ice 3. The oysters were not "freed" from the shell. The oysters were tasty regardless 4. Mussels came without "dipping" bread for the sauce. . I suggested to the server that it should have bread with the dish. He said it normally did but mine was "missing". 5. My friends all had "lobster" melt or salad. Should have been named "No Lobster" melt. Not very much in the Sandwich. One of the orders had the wrong bread. Lobster "not" in Salad. Both also had " crab" but it tasted like from a can. I am sure there was a minimal Amount of "lobster" and the fact that we have had the real thing in New Hampshire might have contributed, But all said they would not get it again. 6. We had 4 orders of fries. One came without ketchup. 7. There is very limited air conditioned space. We were seated in some not so comfortable chairs with some in partial sun. It was a little hot and not a pleasant sit. The umbrellas were smallish and only covered half the table. I would highly suggest eating inside during the heat of the day. 8. Beer was not as cold as it should be. 9. Server was attentive but did not check if orders were complete, the wrong choice of bread on one of the orders, and had too many tables to take care of. The food here is excellent! The gumbo is rich and full of flavor. Fried green tomatoes are amazing. And tomato out overlooking the intrqcostal is quite relaxing. Service is okay. Several times I've had to wait more than what is acceptable. read more

The restaurant is a ticking time bomb for food poisoning! The kitchen is a shithole, servers and kitchen staff can't observe ServSafe standards. Thawing food in hand sinks, gloves, what gloves? Tried for a quick lunch today with my husband in between work meetings. Our quick lunch took over an hour and a half. When we went to leave our waitress was gossiping with the hosts instead of tending to her tables. The waitress took 15 minutes to even acknowledge us and take a drink order. Then we sat for a while once we got our appetizer without putting in our food order or her checking back to see how it was/if we needed anything. We had to ask another waitress to get ours to take our food order. Our food came out promptly but many items were missing and the quality missed the mark. The crab dip came out with 6 thin slices of baguette for a giant bowl, and we had to track our waitress down to ask for more. The fries were definitely double fried, tasted like old oil, and were over salted. The tuna nachos had frozen mango chunks in them. The fried grouper sandwich was very greasy leaving grease puddles on my plate. The Mac and cheese was gross and the parm bread crumbles on top were the only part with any flavor. Our she crab soup never even came out. Service was abysmal and the food wasn't great. Updated to respond to the owner- had our server done their job AT ALL we would've had the opportunity to let them know about the food... However the server was basically no where to be found during our hour and a half lunch... In addition, the lunch took so long we wouldn't have even had time to wait for our food to be remade, a slow weekday lunch time should allow for it to come out right the first time. First of all, you can't beat the setting. It is located on the Intercoastal Waterway. They have a large boat dock if you are traveling down the ICW. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating. Second, the food is as good as the view. Our party of 4 ordered different items and everyone was pleased. Our server was attentive and pleasant. My husband had the crab Mc and cheese....very good. Service was extremely rapid, too rapid.We didn't had the time to finished our drink (apetizer) that the soup and the entrees arrived. That, despite the fact that we asked the server to wait 30 minutes at least for the service. We felt that they need to empty the place for other clients. Even if it was beginning to be almos empty! Really to pushy! The ambiance was ok with the live music. A bit too noisy for our needs. We will go back BUT will wait to order the food AFTER that our drink will be terminated. The only things good I can say about this place are the location and the servers. We've been three times, twice the hostess was rude and condescending. The food was mediocre. I contacted them several months ago about how rudely we were treated by the hostess but never received a reply. Great spot for having a drink and watching boat traffic. But the drinks are expensive and the food is mediocre. I had shrimp tacos and got two with tiny salad shrimp on it and covered in a chipotle mayo that overwhelmed everything. It came with a side and.i chose the pineapple Cole slaw. It was just ok. Crab dip looked like bean dip and was very fishy tasting. I4th time giving it a try. Not worth $18 For tacos and $15 for a drink. There are much better places to eat on the Intercoastal. read more

Food was good, but the service was terrible. I sat at the bar ten seats away from the only other two patrons. We started okay, ordered wine and food. Both came quickly, then it all went south. A very large, loud alcohol rep. sat down two seats away from me. The conversation was loud and rude. They discussed poor tipping, bad customers, where bottles were placed, what she poured, etc. etc. At one point she was on the opposite side of me talking across me. Thats when I had it and told them to take their business out of my lunch. She told me this was a public place and she could do whatever she wanted. Fine you won. Well not really I got the check paid the bill left zero tip and left! She lost! I can see why she gets lousy tips! Time to put the customer first! read more

If I leave a bad review that means it was REALLY bad. Not hard to please. Also could've been a bad night but there's serious things that need fixing. Worst of all is the service we received, the receipt said our server was Christina F, she never introduced herself properly so hopefully that's the right name. Finger in my soup, asked us to take things out of her hands, unprofessional, not one single smile after being a super easy table! Stood there talking in front of us when we needed things. As for the food- that's enough to never go back. Crab dip was hard and cold we had to use a knife to cut through it and it came with only THREE mini crostinis- got charged when we asked for more. The crab cakes were dry and full with filling. Soup was not good. Sat there for 15 minutes after eating waiting for the check, went to ask the bartender if she could get our server- and she was piling food into her mouth behind the bar. With customers. That is unprofessional and gross. Just keep all of this in mind if you're deciding to go.. serious fixing needs to happen with food and service. Should never have to go home hungry after spending $120 because everything was awful. Management could turn things around it's not too late! read more

Food was great! We highly recommend the shrimp and lobster linguine. I'm not a huge lemon fan but this sauce was just the right touch. The lobster and shrimp had so much flavor it was great! I have eaten at Blue Drum twice. Both times the wait staff was frazzled, too many customers too many special requests and generally just not enough room for them to navigate. The food was just OK, regular size portions, prices were above average. My table mate ordered a hurricane, and they had never heard of that drink.!?! We came in and ordered well before happy time, were served prior to happy hour ending and yet we were charged full price. We did dispute it and they did reprice the tab. I attended a church ladies luncheon and we had reservations for 12:30, another group was scheduled right in front of us so we didn't get to sit down for about 45 minutes and then we were not able to sit together. The food was just mediocre and there were overcharges on tabs that afternoon. I won't retur I won't be returning. read more

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at this BLUE DRUM restaurant. Our party of five had reservations for the outdoor deck overlooking the water at 6 o'clock. We had made these reservations a week ago We received a call 15 min before our 6 pm reservation and was told that they CANCELLED IT DUE TO SOME RAIN. we had just driven 25 minutes to get to this restaurant We arrived 15 minutes early, only to be told again that our reservation had been canceled. We asked for the manager who was very rude and unprofessional and told us she basically couldn't do a thing for us and was not able to seat us inside. Other folks arrived as walk-ins and they were seated immediately. Upon arrival, we found that other guests who had just arrived were being seated inside, yet we were told that our reservation had been canceled therefore we could not be accommodated. The lack of flexibility and consideration was appalling. Despite the inclement weather, it was clear that the restaurant had the capacity to seat us indoors, but they chose not to. This level of customer service is unacceptable. We will NOT be returning, and I WILL advise others to avoid this restaurant if you expect even basic courtesy and professionalism. NOT WORTH 1 star!! Poor management and just giddy young hostesses who know nothing about customer service. read more

Early not addressing us but, seemingly directing that it was our fault! Got seated about 15-20 min later. The appetizers were good however, it went down hill from there. My wife ordered the shrimp and lobster linguine. sauce was thick and bland as were the shrimp and lobster little flavor. My daughter had Cajun Trio was also bland. Neither finished the dish. I ordered She-crab soup which I usually love. It arrived cold and warming it up didn't make it any better. It had no taste. Next was the seafood pasta which was to consist of lobster and crab stuffed ravioli in a vodka sauce with lump crab and lobster on top. Both the "lobster"and "crab" were imitation which the menu didn't specify but the server confirmed. At $28 a dish at a seafood restaurant, I expected to get real seafood. The dish itself also had no flavor whatsoever. We barely ate it and didn't even bring it home. I was excited to try this place for the first time but it was definitely a disappointing meal.
