In fairness, I'm not a golfer. I booked a reservation for my son and my boyfriend to play golf here. When we arrived they couldn't find the reservation, very disappointing. They were able to get one cart, ( Because of Covid two people in different households couldn't ride together) yeah there were several walk ups after us and they were able to get carts as well. Overall: will not return. Course layout: Poor... we could not find the 9th hole, so could not actually finish game we paid for. There are few signs and this is common and consistent, as we attempted to ask other players for help, who made a joke of it... like, "Oh, yeah, I remember my first time, I couldn't figure the course..." so it shows me that it is a LONG TERM problem, that people deal with. There is very little signing and we spent most of the game looking for a hole, and in some cases were on the wrong course. A 1-hour game turned to 3+! A true waste. The grounds could use improvement--not just with the general look of the grass, greens, holes, but simple things, like the bridge could be repaired, or some of the other aesthetics... it's more like they have tons of staff, who are only on payroll so they can play golf for free, and aren't too busy working... If your staff are walking by obvious and dangerous repairs, hire new people who will take initiative. No shooting range. They only allow you to put, and it's poorly--they obviously didn't want to pay someone to pick up the balls of a true shooting range. Over all, I was excited to play here, as there is a nice natural beauty and convenience of where it is. I can guess it is being run by older management who are not keen to update, spend money in repairs, or take the time to hire and train motivated staff. (Mostly men anyway... women are a deficit in general). If your course is more of a mystery to solve, and it's known for it, you have a problem, Houston! Final: Go elsewhere... the overall two stars here, for real. My one star denotes how I could not actually play, but paid for a game. read more

The balls are terrible. It's a Mish mash of old beat up range balls, newer ok range balls and regular golf balls in all kids of condition. In my bucket of balls there were 3 with cracks (un- hittable) and several with so much wear on the dimples they were worn smooth. I wouldn't recommend or return to this range. Absolutely terrible experience. I've played here 4 times this year and never had a reason to want to never come back until having a running with the course ranger. Absolute BELLEND. To set the scene, my friend and I played 18 with another friend joining at the turn for the back 9(not a crazy thing to do) we had been given two golf carts for the third person to join us once he arrived. We meet him to find he has been given a cart as well(not our fault and entirely the responsibility of Cart management(the starter and ranger as well as the person in the clubhouse). So we think OK, no big deal and start to play. Only to find once we started the back 9 that the ranger had allowed a group of TEN people (5 carts) to play in front of us, not a tournament or outing, just a random party of 10 on arguably the busiest day of the week. Course was already packed, so this just made things worse. Being good sports, we ignored the ignorance of this decision on BFR's part(idiotic) and continued on. We arrive at the 5th hole to tee off and the waste of space that is the course ranger decides to come up to us as as we are set to tee off and goes "uh why do you have 3 carts for 3 people...." we answer him politely, now to remind you that when you pay for your round you pay for the green fees and cart which covers things like gas and maintenance, etc. standard... He proceeds to sneer and give us a look as he drives away but not without first adding "yeah it's a big waste of gas." I don't think I've ever been more livid that someone who makes their living from serving others had the gall to say something so egregious to the people that pay his salary. I have now discovered what the policy and business strategy of BFR is: nothing more than bottom line over customer satisfaction. The happiness of guests(being smart about sending out a party of 10 on a busy Sunday, instead of bothering to complain about $1.50 worth of gas for the extra cart) Clearly this is a shining example of why your course has seen a drop in numbers. Maybe instead of playing the course while acting as course ranger you'd have a better hold on what occurred on your course. Will definitely not be returning nor will anybody I know. I will also be making sure I bring my business (I play 3-4 times a week and work/live locally) to a more customer friendly and better maintained course. ALSO: instead of complaining about the extra cart being out and you acting all high and mighty as if your course is Torrey pines, maybe you could be spending your time more wisely like ensuring the greens aren't covered in leaves and acorns. Get your leaf blower out and get to work buddy. Its ridiculous for a golf course that caters to the type of clients like yours does looks/plays like that. read more

I've played there for 15 years, but my visits have gone from weekly to sporadic at best as they have let the course deteriorate. Playing there for the first time this year this past Sunday, Sept 8th, will also be my last time playing there. They abandoned use of herbicides years ago, but now they've abandoned everything. Pretty clear they tried to ruin the course on purpose to get the Nod Rd. Deal pushed along. Now that deal is dead and so is half the turf on the course. And oh yea, they don't even know how to set up tee times, and the starter was a joke. Embarrassing. read more

I played Blue Fox Run today to see if it had improved any since I last played it a few years ago. Unfortunately, it is actually worse. The course is in disgraceful condition. The tee boxes are mostly dirt, save for a few scattered weeds. The fairways are so burnt out that you can not distinguish fairway from rough. I lost count of how many times I hit a perfect drive only to find my ball sitting on top of hardpan dirt in what should have been lush fairway grass. The sand traps are rock hard; they clearly have not been raked in weeks. Weeds have taken over vast portions of the property. Grass was almost nowhere to be found. The one exception was the greens, as they are the only part of the course that is watered and were surprisingly fast and smooth. I have heard that there is a proposal to develop the area on which the course sits into a new residential neighborhood. This no doubt explains why the Blue Fox Run is so poorly managed - they are just milking it for cash until they get approval to bring in the bulldozers. My strong advice: skip Blue Fox Run, whatever the price, and instead patronize Tunxis, Simsbury Farms, Wintonbury, or Rockledge. These public courses are slightly more expensive but offer far better conditions and therefore better value. read more

Certainly not the best golf course I've ever played, and certainly not the worst either. If you're going to add nine holes to your golf course to instill a little more variety and fun, I applaud it. I've been to plenty of 27 and 36 hole affairs, and not playing the same round twice definitely entices the golfer to come back more often. But given the execution of said decision... Blue Fox Run is often more frustrating than rewarding. I walked 18 with my friend today, and 16 of those holes inevitably ended with the phrase... "Where the *BLEEP* is the next tee?!" Yes, they provided some temporary signage, but the course we played today was a nearly unnavigable labyrinth of randomly placed holes. And the walk between them! Forget golf carts... this should be the first course in America to provide taxi service! As other reviewers have said, it appears well kept, especially the tee boxes and greens, but when the most important tool in your golf bag is your compass, it makes for a less than optimal golf experience. read more

Here's an up to date review for someone looking to play here now (disregard all other reviews from over a year ago as it seems a lot has changed) I only say that because if you still can't navigate yourself around this course then golf isn't the game for you. Maybe bocci or croquet something a little closer quarters. Course has signs everywhere all holes easily found. Place was in great shape and play was fast given the one circumstance that I took a star away for. PIN LOCATION I love a challenge and I'm by no means a great golfer but holy smokes some of the pins made me feel like I was on a mini golf course. At least half of the pins today couldn't even be attacked because you'd roll yourself off to one side 20 feet away or off the green and down a hill unless you stuck it in a 3 to 5 foot area. All in all though a fun challenging course for someone who has been back in the game for 2 years. Would go back for sure. read more

Don't listen to any comments that were placed last year, the course is totally different now. Last year it was TERRIBLE and everyone who played there knows that. This year everything is looking better. The fairways, greens, bunkers, and rough are in great condition. The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because the tee boxes are not great, other than that it is a perfect place to play! read more

Played Red Nine today. Tee,s are very poor state. Poorly maintained. Fairways have limited turf, very dry lacking quality grass anywhere. Greens have lots of poor spots. Not worth paying the price to play here. Better of at Simsbury Farms for same price where course is in great shape. Real shame. read more

Blue fox is following in tower ridge foot steps. This means they will be out of business soon. Does not appear to put any money in upkeep. Dry as a bone with dirt fairways. And then you charge the same prices as the much better cared for courses like Simsbury farms or Farmington woods. My golf cart was dirty and it literally took 5 presses on the gas to get going each time. Very sad for what used to be a great track. I highly doubt I will be back. read more

Ok course. I was expecting something a little nicer, maybe rivaling Rockledge, especially for the price. It's a little run down, some of the holes and greens were in rough shape, others were nice. Lots of geese seem to camp out on the blue course near the water....leads to lots of poop on the fairway. My suggestion would be to go during their deal time hours. Later in the day during the summer they have a special that's $35 per person, 18 holes and a cart. I wouldn't pay peak prices. read more

Yesterday, I played Blue Fox Run for the first time in many years. I will not return. The course was in horrible shape. There were weeds everywhere, the greens were slow and in poor condition, and the fairways were almost indistinguishable from the rough (neither of which had good grass). I know it was early in the season, but the condition of the course suggested years of neglect. I honestly had the impression the course was on the verge of bankruptcy. On top of this, there was no starter, which probably explains why there was a six-some (!) behind us (fortunately not in front of us). With all of the nice public courses in the Hartford area, I can't imagine why anyone would play at Blue Fox Run. read more

I have never played here but my son LOVED the golf camp here. He wanted to go back for a second week.

Called up and was told it's 45$ for 18 and a cart. Arrived at my 1:30 tee time and paid 55$ for 18 and a cart, because that takes effect at 2:30. Then went on to play in a dust bowl. The fairways were burnt to hell. You were almost better off playing out of the crab grass and weed roughs. I will not play this course again even if I was given a free round full cooler of beer and dinner. Is give no stars if it would let me and still post. read more

Course should be renamed Blue Fox Rundown Course is terribly under maintained and unsightly. Crab grass all over the course, cart path in rough shape, greens in spotty shape. Golf carts are dirty and in disrepair. Thre course is not well groomed and needs a lot of cosmetic work. Unlike the previous reviewer I think the earlier reviews are still accurate. The greens were in great shape but other than that it was pretty bad even by my forgiving standards. For some reason there are tall weeds with poison Ivy that they are letting grow all over the course where open spaces would be much better for everybody. Good luck finding your ball or playing it of it goes on that stuff. I'm also scratching poison ivy as I type this. I hit a couple balls that were just barely off the fairway that went into this stuff and after a while didn't bother looking bc I couldn't find any of them. This alone is the kind of thing that can make a round last 6 miserable hours while everyone spends 10 minutes looking for their topflites. And the bunkers...oh my. I've never seen such poorly maintained bunkers. One bunker right next to a par 5 green was all weeds. It looked like something you would see on course that had been closed for 3 years (maybe some foreshadowing). They all had tall grass growing around their edges to snag and hide your ball rather than it just rolling into the bunker for an easy shot. And as others have said the layout of the place makes it generally very hard to walk. The signs are fine but you're just trekking all over the place. Given the scenic location at the base of Avon Mountain and the wealth around there you would expect better. I felt bad after having spent my hard-earned money there. read more

0 stars. 8:38 tee time and I left after 15 holes at 1pm because there were 4 groups in front of us waiting because the forward group was hanging out mixing drinks & not actually golfing. This is the second time in 2 years I've had a similar experience. They book tee times and don't manage the course or address slow golfers. The course itself was in poor condition for the location, Avon is an upscale town, I would not have expected poorly cared for greens or large sections of burnt grass in fairways. The rough was extremely unkept and impossible to maneuver without a wedge. Towards the end there were landscapers trimming the rough but you would think they would do that prior to one of the busiest golf days of the year (July 4th) and not at 11am with a full course. Overall one of the worst if not the worst golf experience I've ever encountered. read more

An uninspiring course. Most holes are very vanilla and forgettable. REALLY GOOFY LAYOUT and frustrating for walkers - eg, some long treks from green to tee, couple places you walk across another hole to get to the next tee box, White #9 far away from all other holes. Driving range seems like an after-thought. Only enduring quality for walkers is that it's flat. Red and White courses seem decently maintained, which keeps me from giving it 1 star. Can't say the same for Blue - while it's not horrible, I still often wonder why they don't get Blue in better shape. Red is only a par 34, and very short at 2400 yards from the white tees. Beginners may find this appealing, but better players would like more of a challenge. read more

Tried this course for the first time after purchasing a groupon. 18 holes for 2 with cart and lunch paid for all for like $70. Not a bad deal at all. Course was open which is good for a golfer like me who's all over the course. Restaurant/bar was small but food was good. We enjoyed some wings and burgers with an ice cold one after finishing our round. I wouldn't pay their full fee to play there but for the discounted price I will be back again. I've bought 3 more passes since so we plan to try out the other 9 holes we didn't play last time. read more

Playing golf in November. The course is divided into 3 nine hole courses. The blue 9 had a lot of debris (sticks and leaves). The white is clear. All greens are in great shape. All in all, a great round just be prepared to loose balls in the leaves. read more

I played the red and the white course the other day and although the course was a little short (par 70) the layout was good. The course has really greened up in the past couple of weeks and the fairways were in great shape. I had read some reviews about weeds but the only place I really noticed those were in the longer grasses out by the farmland or out of play. Maybe some people don't like that look but the course itself was good. read more

This course used to be great but has really gone downhill over the years. It looks like a construction site with the amount of dirt and dust flying around. If you are going to add a new 9 holes then you need to be ready to maintain all the oddly configured 27 holes. Horrible conditions around the greens, if you miss the fairway by a few feet you can expect to be on dirt, gravel or a clump of weeds and the same goes near the greens. Good luck getting up and down from dirt/mud/crabgrass lies. BTW, none of these trashed parts are labeled as ground under repair. Probably not enough white spray paint in CT to mark all the areas that should be marked. The greens are fine but the new greens weaved in with the old greens make them inconsistent. Bunkers also have this felt like material exposed with metal spikes holding it in. Careful not to hurt yourself in those "traps". Not enough water jugs (perhaps to get you to buy from the cart person) and the restaurant's hour are anybody's guess. Good luck getting a cup of coffee in the morning. I play 4-5 days a week and with the option out there, I will opt out of playing this track. It really is sad that the owners and the guy running it only see it as a cash cow.
