Never in a million years did I think I'd have some of the best sushi ever in the small town of Idaho Falls. WELL... our experience proved that even a landlocked state can offer a killer experience, like the one we had! Our server, Kelsee was so welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about the entire menu. With all of us completely overwhelmed at where to start in ordering, Kelsee swooped in, gave us a rundown of the specialty items, her favorites and spice level, because WOAH. We opted for 2 appetizers (edamame and another one that escapes me now), along with 6 rolls, for the 4 of us to split. Our food came out quickly and all together (which was nice), was beautiful in presentation, and absolutely delicious!! We had such a variety that I can't remember them all but what I can remember, was that I loved every single one of them! One of the rolls we ordered traditionally comes with some type of ghost pepper seasoning on top, and at Kelsee's suggestion, we got it on the side to dust on ourselves. Very poor experience. We tried doing a call in order twice and got hung up on twice. We then went to the restaurant to eat dinner in person, was only half full. Waited over 80 minutes after ordering and still no food (3 rolls, nothing crazy). Other tables were contemplating the same thing we were about leaving as it was a joke. Staff was too busy on their phones and chatting with friend who do not even work there. Very sad to watch this with how slow the service was and cannot even get food out in a reasonable time. SIGH...I wish I could give more stars.... A major move in 2021 to Idaho Falls gives me the ability to explore new businesses. It is exciting for me to be able to review these offerings on Yelp. One of the reasons we chose to live in Idaho Falls are the friendly people who live here. People smile, they take time to chat, they are welcoming. Except for the service I received at my second visit to Blue Hashi. So let me briefly mention the first visit. Our server was wonderful. She gave us great suggestions for what to order, our meals arrived in a timely fashion, and we enjoyed our dining experience. The photos I've posted are from this first visit which made us want to go return. However after our second visit...we have not returned. We had the dreaded server who insulted us, then left without taking our order or asking what she could get us. And to top it off - there were only two other tables with patrons in the restaurant. Service should not have been slow. When our food finally arrived it was good. They have good sushi chefs who know how to prepare fresh food well and in a timely fashion. Finally when the bill arrived we found the entree she suggested we try was an up charge over the one we were going to order and she had not told us it cost more. Another bad move on her part! I wanted to leave two pennies on the table so she would understand just how much she had insulted us and ruined our dining. But somehow, as sour as she was, it seemed right to give her at least a 10% tip, even though we've been leaving 20-30% due to Covid and how its hurt the restaurant business and the servers. In all our ventures into restaurants in Idaho Falls we have never felt unwelcome until this server at Blue Hashi. That second meal was in September and we haven't returned. What could have been a spectacular dining experience due to great food was turned into a sour meal we still regret. read more

IDAHO FALLS DINING VARIETY CHALLENGE: Having recently moved here from Boise, we realize the variety of dining opportunities could be smaller. We hope to show there are many 4-5 star restaurants of various cuisines to be enjoyed as we experience them ourselves. This review is based on our second visit, on Sep 9, 2021. SUSHI - We were in a great mood, laughing and joking with each other. That's rare these days, getting out and having a good time. We entered the restaurant, and the server/greeter was obviously in a bad mood. We continued laughing and kidding, and we tried engaging her as well. We later learned that she didn't like one of my spouse's comments. She silently took us to a booth and handed us menus. That was fine. She came to take our order, and we began to do so. I also ordered a beer. My spouse ordered the same beer, and the server said, "We're out of that beer." I laughed, and said, "So, I got the last one?" She gave me a bad look, then spouted, "I taught my children not to be rude! I'm not going to serve rude people like you!" She stormed off toward the sushi bar. My spouse and I just stared at each other and began trying to figure out what had set her off so much. We were no longer laughing or having a good time. We finally decided she was in a bad mood, and our trying to have a good time just didn't sit well with her, combined with us joking with her. She finally came back, saying, "I'll take your order, but you owe me an apology." We weren't sure why, nor were we going to ask at this point, but we both contritely apologized for whatever we had done, though we felt it should be the other way around. She stared at us like a stern teacher with a paddle board wanting to use it on rude children. We gave her our order (with two different beers) and she left. My spouse said, "Let's just go. There's no way we are going to enjoy this now." I said, "We need to not let her ruin our day." Unfortunately the service fiasco continued. My canned beer was barely opened, enough that I wondered if there were a problem with it. The order took forever to arrive. The server did her best to ignore us. So, yes, we did let her ruin our day. Even the food still being good didn't help. As my spouse said, there's no way we are going to enjoy this, and the server ensured that would be true. When we left, my spouse simply left the restaurant. I paid, with the server being the one smiling, saying "I'm so glad we got past the initial problem and everything ended up ok." Yeah, right. I paid the bill, left too much of a tip (I considered two pennies, but I don't do that) and also departed. A dining experience is about both food and service. The food kept this from being a one star review, but the service on Sep 9 meant that we haven't been back since and today is Nov 19. Sorry, Blue Hashi, but your servers shouldn't foist their bad day upon others. read more

We used to eat here in 2022, and the sushi was pretty good for the area. We just ate dinner here a few nights ago and it was horrible. The rolls tasted like cardboard. The fish tasted old or on its way to going bad. I can honestly say this was the worst sushi I have ever had. It was very upsetting because their rolls are not cheap! Same price as Smokin Fins, but Smokin Fins actually has great tasting sushi rolls. Service was great! Just very disappointed with the quality of the food for how much we paid. I wanted so bad to like this place, because I absolutely love Sushi and ever since moving to Idaho Falls I've been dying to find my "go-to" sushi spot (and there aren't many options here); however after many mediocre meals and two especially bad ones during my last two visits, I think I've finally come to accept the reality that this place is just not it. The rolls aren't flavorful, they're dry, they don't taste super fresh, it's overpriced, and every time I've ordered a super universal roll (think: spicy tuna, caterpillar, crunch roll...) not only are they bland and dry, they're also nothing like what you'd typically get anywhere else. The caterpillar roll especially threw me off... I don't know what it was, but it wasn't a caterpillar roll in the slightest. Very disappointing. Their spicy crab mix they pile on top of their Phoenix Roll is flavorless, long stringy "noodles" (like pasta) and makes you want to take bets on what kind of scientific mystery meat is on your plate. The only impressive roll I've ever had here is the Vision Roll - it's basically a daily chef special. However I will say that 2/4 times I've had it wasn't very good... so it's not a consistent guarantee, unfortunately. The last time I ordered it I had to send it back for being inedibly spicy. When I mentioned it was painfully hot to the waitress, she tried insulting my competence on the matter by telling me "Asian spicy is different..." I didn't bother to pointlessly argue with her. It was besides the matter. The roll was inedible no matter your tolerance level and should never have been served to a human being unless it were some kind of competition: (i.e. "if you can finish our Ghost Pepper Death Roll you get it for free! Plus a free t-shirt and photo on our champion wall!" ...Our waitress never offered to take it back and ignored us the rest of our dining experience. 0/10 stars. The only roll I'd probably recommend if you wanted to try this place (besides the Vision Roll - but remind you, it's a gamble!) is the Lotus Roll... it's not my typical go-to for a sushi dish (sometimes I want light and fresh instead of anything tempura), and I wish they didn't sear the ahi they top it with; but it's at least flavorful, not dry/bland, and no mystery crab meat/noddles. They just don't know their sushi here. And like another reviewer commented before me, I also believe it's a lack of patron experience and competition that keeps this place afloat. I don't mean that in a disrespectful way at all, it just is what it is. I have mixed feeling about this place. I ordered nigiri. The rice is horribly shaped--as hard as cold rock and separated immediately from the fish when I touched it. However the fish is incredibly fresh and fatty tasty. This is hamachi (yellowtail). Since the fish was good I ordered the 6 pc sashimi plate. Again mixed feelings. They used the fatty juicy part in nigiri but only the skinny part in sashimi plate :( The rolls are some good combinations of fish and rice and sauce tho. I ordered teriyaki chicken bowl. The menu said nothing about it coming with anything but rice. When it came it was mixed in with a bunch of vegetables. Which is fine but I can't eat onions and there were plenty of them and hardly any little bits of chicken. The egg rolls and potstickers were good and our waitress Kelsee was great! I honestly don't know why all of the Blue Hashi reviews are not 5 stars! This is the best sushi in Idaho Falls and maybe Idaho. It is our go to spot for sushi and it is always excellent. We've had sushi in Spokane, Utah and Montana and Hawaii, but this is the best. I usually choose The Vision, which is the chef's choice and I have never been disappointed! My daughters and I went today and once again it was amazing! We had miso soup, tempura vegetables and Hashi style edamame. My vision roll was outstanding! I can't say enough good about it. The food and service are very good. Usually the sushi is awesome, but i have had occassion where it seemed old. I have a very severe gluten allergy, and though at times it's been well accommodated, I have gotten very ill from gluten exposure multiple times now (I would guess cross contamination from shared surfaces). I can't risk eating here anymore. I wish, since they have the gluten free option, they'd better train employees about how to keep these guests safe. The good: table was clean, the food was decently flavorful, and they had a neat koi fish tank. The bamboo accents were appreciated. It seems there is about 10 pieces in a roll vs the traditional 6-8. The waiter stood less then two feet from me and pulled down their mask to talk, there was a waiter that kept visiting her friends in the booth next to us and even took some kind of alcohol shots with them, it seemed unprofessional to me. Everything was delicious! We order the salmon sashimi which was probably the best I've ever had. We also ordered flying fish eggs and tuna which were both great. The Poke was amazing, the BRI roll was super good and the red dragon was great! We added lemon on top of each roll and that made them even better. We are so glad we went out of our way on our road trip to stop here. The staff was super friendly - but everything we ate was even better. We got the Hashi edamame, fried dumplings, maguri (tuna) sashimi, shrimp tempura roll, the Crunch, and the sleepwalker. The last three were everyone's favorites. We were so stuffed but couldn't NOT eat every last bite. After some poor service I decided to give Blue Hashi another shot. To be honest, the food has always been delicious, but the service seemed to become increasingly lackluster. After disclosing these issues to management, I decided to go back and see if anything had changed. I was happy to see that things had improved drastically. The service was still exceptional as was the food, given the increased patronage in the restaurant. During this visit I found a new roll that might draw me back to Blue Hashi on a weekly or semi-weekly basis - the Panda roll. Try it! I'm sure you will not be disappointed. Trust me. In short, Blue Hashi seems like one of few restaurants that cares about their guests and sincerely listens to their concerns with the intent to improve in any way possible. We went on a Friday night, and the restaurant was already half full at 5:40pm. I was surprised and thought it must be good. After waiting 10 minutes, a waitress finally took our order. I felt we didn't have a good start and I wondered how the rest of the meal was going to go. Immediately our waitress brought out food and drinks and made sure we were ok with everything. I'm not insulting anyone at all. I'm simply saying that the people who sing the praises of Blue Hashi haven't had excellent sushi. I've had sushi in many different geographic locations. I've had good sushi, okay sushi, terrible sushi, mind-blowing delicious sushi, and that's all I have to say about that. Can you guess which one covers the sushi at Blue Hashi?? Sushi should taste delicious and fresh. At Blue Hashi I experienced the aroma and flavor of older fish. I don't know how many days it has to sit in a cooler from the time it's caught and shipped to Idaho Falls, but it really ends up being just nasty. Could I have come on an off day? Maybe. Would I pay to give them another shot? Nope. I'll either wait for something of a higher caliber to come to town, or be patient for the time when I go to other places on the globe where excellent sushi is served. In closing, I commend the locals who support local businesses. I am not crusading to shut this place down by any means. But I am warning non-locals that this place will absolutely disappoint you if you've had truly good sushi elsewhere. read more
