Arrived and sat at the bar waited for 15 minutes to be served by the bartender and there were two of them Ordered the French dip and clam chowder with a 16 ounce rum and Coke. I like a big tall glass because I like my drinks weaker than strong. Another 30 minutes go by and I'm told they are out of the French dip sandwich Then she brings my rum and Coke in a small glass way too strong for me I paid my bill and left. We have been here a couple times. But they just recently redid their menu and are under new ownership. I think this place is real classy. It is on the river and you could sit inside or outside. There are usually ducks outside and I've often seen a bald eagle up in the trees. The food is really good and big portions. The house salad has shrimp on it. It's a really tasty. Their house clam chowder is also really good. For dessert I recommend the ice cream mud pie. it's a huge piece and good for four or five people. Definitely come here if you're in Idaho Falls. read more

First of all there's a really cool patio. Service is exceptional! Food quality not so much!! I ordered the surf and turf only to get very dry halibut and a sirloin steak that had so much gristle it was hard to cut. It was cooked to the perfect temperature but that doesn't account for much if you have to feed it to your dog. I might come back again but I'd be leary of the options. read more

I'm usually a bit leery when the server touts a certain item, but here Dustin recommended the first item on the seafood menu, not a daily special. The macadamia crusted halibut was a winner, I opted for an only-broccoli side. Very good all around. Halibut isn't the flakiest of fish, but it wasn't too dense here. One miss were the complimentary low-end rolls. Conversely, another positive was the house coconut Mojito. Stray from your hotel restaurant and dine here, especially the outside seating when weather appropriate. read more

We used to really love the Sandpiper. I thought I'd give them another try on my Birthday. The house salad came out with frozen shrimp on it. One of the orders came out wrong. 3 of us had steak and they were all over done. My side of steamed veggies was warm on the outside and cold in the center. The service was ok. It's got a great view of the river and that was the only positive thing I experienced. The interior of the restaurant l looks very tired and dingy. The artichoke was tough. Food was excellent. Probably the best calamari I've ever had, followed by Hawaiian crusted halibut (excellent), we also had Oscar Chicken that was prepared perfectly. Excellent experience at The Sandpiper last night. We were promptly seated then greeted by our server Tanner who took great care of us all night. We started with a couple drinks ( they could up their game on the Chardonnay options) and the potato skins. The skins were very good and plentiful. My husband got the macadamia crusted halibut with garlic mashed potatoes and I had the ahi entree blackened with side asparagus. Both were excellent and again huge portions. We also had a wonderful table out on the patio looking out to the river by a fire feature to keep warm. This place was recommended to us and we were not disappointed. I was hungry and tired after my last day of adventures in Idaho falls. I had seen this restraunt across the parking lot from my hotel, and when walking the trail system. This evening, the incredible aroma of steak brought me in. I was seated at a table in the busy bar area, they also have a dinning room. I had a great view of river and trails from my table. The server let me know that they are known for their steak and seafood but they also have burgers etc. I ordered the steak and halibut combo, gotta have what they are known for right? Wish I had just gone for the halibut on its own. The steak was good, but the halibut was incredible and I wanted more! The macadamia nut crust was perfect with this fish, and the yummy creamy sauce. You gotta have yummy sauce with fish, in my opion, and this was really good! Finished with the mixed berry cobbler with ice cream, so goood! I tried unsuccessfully to make the halibut when I got home. Total fail, I guess I'll just have to go back to Idaho falls and Sandpiper Restraunt. read more

Had a table of three ordered three steaks and two salads. Order was completely wrong. And we never did get the salads. Took us 2 hours to get our food and as we were waiting we watched the table of six get up frustrated and leave not sure if they even got their food? In the meanwhile to other people got up and just walked out because apparently they weren't getting served. I think we had a new waiter or something that did an absolute terrible job and you're only recourse is to not leave a tip but they can conveniently tacked on 20% I noticed after I got the bank statement. Everything is separate so you select your main and then add on salad, soup, veggies, or baked potatoes. This is a very large place with both inside and outside seating. All this while watching two other people get up and walk out. The waiter was the worse! the manager was just sitting there on his laptop while all this was happening. New Year's Eve dinner early at 4:30 pm, ordered apple martini , got a lemon drop , zero alcohol decided to try another same thing, just horrible crushed ice floating on top of glass no cherry , then decided to try a White Russian , same thing zero alcohol , tried another because my chicken Oscar was soooo dry , same thing zero alcohol asks for top shelf and get the same exact thing , finally gave up and got a baked sweet potato , I got a crunchy mini potato and they stated they were out, mind you the crowd is now huge at the front door so I guess in Idaho on New Year's Eve you get no baked potaroe or whatever, my wife ordered the prime rib, all fat took it back and got filet and sweet potato which turned out awesome. 1 point for that , overall horrible experience , my company comes here a lot, I'll make sure and mention our dinner next week back to work . Hugely disappointed in the service and food tonight. (Our waitress was very nice and tried.) We spent $140 to wait 20 minutes before we were given water. Gave our order and waited another 25 minutes for our appetizer . Had an empty drink for 10-15 minutes before we had to ask someone for another one. Waited another 25+ minutes for our meals, but didn't receive our salads at all. Had to ask for them only to have what was brought out look like it was quickly thrown together, was poor quality. No dressing, wilted lettuce and dry, room temp shrimp. The steak was WELL done and no where near medium rare. The halibut was dry AF. Waited another 25 minutes for the steak to be remade and boxed up. It was medium rare, but disappointing. When we opened the box at home it was less than appetizing and all curled up full of gristle and fat. We ordered a berry cobbler to go and the top crust was doughy bordering on raw. And it looked gross. Over 2 hours for food that wasn't delivered in a proper or timely order. And the quality was what would be expect from a place that pulled cheap quality products from a freezer and threw them in a microwave. The new owner and management should be ashamed of themselves. We will make sure to tell EVERYONE we know about tonight's experience. And make sure NO ONE wastes their time or money going to eat there. Decent management would have come to the table and made an effort to make tonight's experience right. Instead, the manager/owner was too busy to be bother to take care of customers and sat at the end of the bar and then with guys on the patio drinking. Great food, amazing customer service! We came out last night, sat out in the patio which outside temperatures were perfect. Patio is super shaded and without a reservation they were immediately able to accommodate our party of 7. Service was very fast and the food was amazing. Every person loved their orders and definitely would all come back again next time. I personally ordered prime rib 10oz with a side salad and bake potato. Portion size was massive, with a nice thick cut on prime rib which you don't see too often at other places. Only critique I could give here for improvement is actually get straight up horseradish that you make in house which is super simplistic. The "jar" straight horseradish they have is not legit and super weak. By the root and make some home made and this would be a place of perception across the board. I'm sorry to tell you that eating here recently was a BIG fail. I have NO idea how they get the decent ratings they get. We go there when there were only a few folks there one night. The waiter was a young man who needs some more waiter skills. When my wife ordered some wine samples the bar tender poured them, and the waiter took it upon himself to take several strong sniffs of the glass. How WRONG is that! I ordered a 16oz Prime Rib and even asked the waiter if he felt confident, he could recommend it. He said absolutely. He brought out a Caesar Salad first and let me tell ya. I'm pretty sure the dressing came out of a bottle; the croutons came out of a bag (sorry I'm used to getting in house made croutons at decent restaurants). Then came the Prime Rib. It darned sure was NOT 16oz as I get them all the time and this was thinner and smaller. Then came the bad news. It was full of sinew and fat and worst of all I demonstrated to the waiter how one couldn't even chew it as it was tough as shoe leather and a knife and fork could not tear it apart. He offered to replace it with their Halibut which my wife ordered, and I had a bite of. The piece he delivered was about at least 30% smaller than hers. They were NOT winning any awards so far. My wife complained to me the fish was overcooked and dry. Finally, I finished with a Creme Brule which is one of my favorite desserts of all time (the finest is at a place in Spokane called Klinkindaggers). It had virtually NO vanilla bean flavor as it is supposed to have. I happen to be a "foodie" and am familar with some of the finer places to eat in Idaho. This one is one you should take a pass on. There are so many other options in Idaho Falls and at least have decent food. Definitely NOT worth their prices either that's for sure. read more

We got to the restaurant around 6pm and it was already getting busy. We don't get to sit on the patio but did sit in the lounge. We quickly ordered appetizers, which was the perfect tide-me-over. Delicious potato skins, and the breaded calamari were great. The house salad was a surprise with bay shrimp, cashews, with garlic dressing - so good! We had the steak, Oscar style. Everything was perfect. Food seemed to be a bit slow (maybe because we're starving), but for a nicer restaurant, we were there your typical 90 mins. Everything was delicious! We wanted a lovely dinner for thanking our hosts on this vacation stay. This was the perfect choice. Lovely cocktails and a menu with a lot of variety. We started with fried artichoke hearts and escargot. The escargot was buttery and garlicky. They added some very salty cheese which was a bit much for me. The fried artichoke hearts were also a bit salty. But that didn't stop us from eating them! I had the steak and Hawaiian halibut combo with a salad and asparagus. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. My husband had the walleye and clam chowder and enjoyed those as well. We all shared a single slice of the Guinness cheesecake. Yum. I like this restaurant! Food is high priced but very good. Service has always been top notch as well and the ambience of the restaurant is excellent. One thing that I would recommend changing... your table size for 4 adults is tooo small. Appetizers, drinks, and food don't all fit easily on the table space, and the seating spaces are cramped. Also, the chair I was in has seen better days, and was wobbly. Saw one Extra Large Lady trying to get into one of the chairs, and she couldn't do it without difficulty. Granted, she was over-large, but still having some bigger chairs around would have been helpful for the over 300 pound set...and there were plenty of those eating here. That's my two bits. read more

A major move in 2021 to Idaho Falls gives me the ability to explore new businesses. It is exciting for me to be able to review these offerings on Yelp. This restaurant was quite a wonderful discovery. It was truly a five star experience all three visits. Although we had to arrive a bit early, 3:30 instead of 4:00pm, they seated us on their patio and took our order. We had a commitment at 5:00 pm and they made sure they met our dining needs so we would not be late. The service was superb. We never had to wonder where our server was or ask for more water. But they knew the art of letting us dine and not be intrusive. We wanted to split the Caesar salad and the Pacific coast Wild Sockeye Salmon filet. They split both for us in the back which made the meal so much more pleasant. Both courses were prepared to our satisfaction as we love our fish a little underdone and they nailed the prep! May on the Sandpiper patio is a lovely time or year. The location allowed us to dine not just with our taste buds, but with all of our senses as there is so much nature to see and hear at this time of year. Our meal was magical. We've returned a few times since and each time was a wonderful dining experience. I think this might be our favorite place to dine in the Idaho Falls area. read more

The back outdoor seating is such a pleasant area right next to the water and has umbrella coverage. They are able to host larger groups with ease and is dog friendly in the outdoor area! I started with their version of a Moscow Mule which was a solid choice and refreshing for a hot day. For a started we got the Garlic And Brie ($12.99) which was absolutely delicious. Full cloves of roasted garlic and gooey melty brie with a standard baguette (which was just okay, not toasted). You can spice up your bite with the side of sun dried tomatoes as well. Great start to the meal. We followed with the Sirloin and Halibut Combination ($28.99) which was enough for 2 people and you get a nice variety. The sirloin was cooked to a nice medium rare as requested and halibut was flakey but had a nice crunch. For sides we got the steam vegetables (a little too soft) and the garlic mashed potatoes (yum). They provide A1 sauce to give your steak some umph to it but the fish was lighter in flavor. To top of the meal we ended with the Guinness Chocolate Cheesecake which was very rich. Good for all the dark chocolate lovers. Overall, Sandpiper is a solid choice with a lot of menu items to choose from and a mix between diner/steakhouse items with a more relaxed vibe. read more

Investigating Idaho Falls as a place to live, we needed to go to an early dinner at about 3:30pm. We saw the Sandpiper opened at 4:00, which might be too late for our needs. We called and were told we could sit at the bar until 4, which would probably work. We arrived, and the manager (Allison) told us we could sit outside immediately and have dinner, which matched our preferences perfectly. They were obviously setting up for the opening, but you would never know it from the attention and service we were given. We noted that we were told on the phone that we could only order from the bar menu, but the servers, Kenneth and Julia, said to order anything, it would not be a problem. Based on our time constraints, we ordered only the 'Pacific coast Wild Sockeye Salmon filet' with an added Caesar salad. We said we'd split the meal, which was why there was only one order. They asked how we wanted the salmon prepared (there were five choices); we replied, "Which preparation would allow it to be cooked as rare as possible?" That elicited jokes about sashimi and such, but also serious consideration about the five cooking choices. Normally we wait a bit for the meal at a restaurant, but they knew our time constraint, and the meal arrived amazingly fast. I almost said, "Oh, I'm sorry, we didn't intend to order two salmon meals...", but Julia said, "We split it for you.", which altered my statement to "It looks like two orders..." to my spouse. The salmon was perfectly prepared (for us, of course), the Caesar was perfectly dressed, and the side vegetables were crispy (as we had also been asked how we like cooked veggies given the salmon conversation). And the beer and hot bread were excellent as well. It felt like the perfect storm for a dinner, one that we would seek out and spend all evening experiencing. And yet, it was still well before our 5pm absolutely must leave time. We left, knowing we would definitely return to the Sandpiper on our next visit, as there were so many things we wanted to experience on the menu.
