This is exactly what I expected. It's very similar to my favorite Chinese food restaurant from my hometown. We had a choice of oolong, green or jasmine tea. I usually just except weather something is good, fair or bad, but in this case, the food was so disgusting, and all tasted the same, that I thought I would share, so that the next person can save the over 50 bucks it cost to eat. even being as hungry as I was, was no help in making the food taste any better. to call this Chinese food is a slap in the face to every Chinese person out there. you should just call your restaurant STUFF! and your slogan should be, come on in and spend your hard-earned money on some STUFF! and please stay as far away from the egg rolls as you can possibly get. read more

Who knew that a Hong Kong restaurant in small town Idaho Falls would have some of the best Chinese food around? Usually when you stumble across a lone Oriental restaurant in a rural area, the food often gets morphed into more American and less authenticly Asian tastes. So when we stumbled across this place, we didn't expect much. Boy were we surprised by the taste and quality of the food! I admit, the plating is more western style than asian (personal meals in mind vs dishes shared family style). However, you can just ask for extra empty plates and share if you want a sampling of more than one entrée. The nice thing about this restaurant is that they also offer meal plate combos so you can get mote variety. However, the offerings for the combos are limited to certain fried rice, sweet & sour meats, etc dishes. Loved the lemon chicken! That was the highlight of our meal. Tender, crisp, and juicy without being oberly sweet from the sauce. The other stir fried veggies, and sautéed meat with veggies were also flavorful and delicious. Would definitely recommend stopping by here if you're looking to try out some amazing Chinese food cuisine. read more

Here I go again. I'm being brave yet again trying another Chinese restaurant in Idaho Falls. Let's hope this place is better than the last place I went to about two months ago. When I first approached the building, I noticed the sign that read Hong Kong Restaurant Chinese & American Food. That immediately put up a red flag. If I want American food I'll go to Denny's but I was in the mood for Chinese so I asked for a table. The restaurant looks old and dated. There are a few tables in the front and there were small children playing in the booths. They brought me to the back room where there were more booths and tables. I looked in the menu and saw the Hong Kong Special, with "Cantonese style fried noodles" under Authentic Chinese Specialties that caught my eye. I asked the server if these were pan fried thin noodles. She told me they were, so I went ahead and ordered it along with sweet and sour pork with the sauce on the side. I took pictures of the restaurant and within minutes my food was ready. NOT A GOOD SIGN. When the server brought me the noodles, I asked her, I thought you said these were pan fried? She said they were. She failed to mention they were pan fried by LA CHOY! The sweet and sour pork was ok but and the sauce was not bad. However, the pork was over cooked and was extremely tough. I also order fried rice for an extra $1.75. I tasted the fried rice and it had a very rancid, slimy flavor to it. I couldn't eat it. I called the server over and asked for white rice. She said that I would have to pay extra. Fine... She brought it to me and I found a black foreign matter in it. I brought it to the server's attention and she told me that it was just pepper. Peppercorn are not that small and flakes are not that big. I told her "that's not very appetizing." Then she WALKED AWAY. She did not offer to replace my rice and charged me for it! The server hasn't come back to my table to ask how everything is going and disappeared in the kitchen. I've lost my appetite and had to leave. $35 could've bought me a nice steak dinner. Needless to say. I don't think I will try Chinese food in Idaho Falls again. I don't know how they can receive 4 stars with the service and food quality. Save your money. This place is not worth it. read more

If you want chow mein from a can (likely the La Choy brand from the grocery store) a below acceptable standard of cleanliness, and patrons yelling to servers across the room, then this is your place. However, when I go out to eat, I prefer a clean restaurant, authentic food, and a pleasant atmosphere. I felt like I was in a comedy--that's how gross and bizarre the experience was. read more

We always enjoy Hong Kong the food is always fresh and they make it fast!! It's a lift more expensive than some but definitely worth it!! We have tried most dishes we like the sweet and sour pork, moogoo and noodles with mushrooms and gravy! They have great spring rolls and crab Rangoon too. Make sure you say Idaho falls cause there is one in Blackfoot too. Enjoy! read more

We went Monday night and the food was absolutely delicious. We got the crab wantons, I got the moogoo gaipan and my husband got dinner #2. Everything was made fresh and you could tell the ingredients themselves were very fresh. the service was super fast and friendly. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. My favorite Chinese food in town! I always order the lunch specials and they never disappoint!

We are fairly new to the area and looking for Chinese similar to what we're used to. This place looks a little sketchy when you walk in because the dining area is way in the back. Service was fine, food was good. We ordered "family style" so we could share. The 2 items we liked best were: the sweet n sour shrimp because the tempura batter was yumm, (but could have used more sauce and bigger shrimp.) And the tangerine chicken is a big plate full and it also has a thin, crisp tempura, good flavor and plenty of sauce. We got a few other things - Potstickers were good & we used the side sauce on the tempura. Fried rice was also good. The flavor of the broccoli beef was good but had a TON of other veggies in it, which we didn't care for. Not enough beef or broccoli. Overall, an A for effort - it's difficult to rate others when you're trying to find a new place to LOVE. read more

Food was really good! Fresh food and very tasty. Sizzling chicken with tofu was awesome. Lemon chicken was great, the wife only mentioned she would have liked to have more sauce-- that's a good thing. I asked for extra chili sauce on the side, it was delicious. Not the same chili sauce you usually get it, highly recommend it. Would recommend and go back when we're back in town. read more

I enjoy take out here the sweet and sour pork is my favorite. Last time it was a little too soggy, o like it crispy to where it almost melts in your mouth but has that apple crisp texture. I haven't eaten inside but it looks clean and the people are very friendly and prices are great. read more

I was born and raised in Blackfoot, I moved to NM a few years ago and find myself craving my hometown Chinese.... (different styles everywhere) I went back home for a visit recently and stopped at Broadway location (not a fan of the buffet across town) The main waitress has been there since I was a kid, and she had definitely gotten grumpier with age. She was sitting in her booth in front The the restrooms the majority of the visit, and when taking our order/ checking on us, it was yelling across the dining room.... When it came to getting our food instead of receiving my all time favorite side (fried rice- I've never been able to find rice like theirs in all the time I've been gone) I got a gross sneeze of slimy stuff instead.. when I asked the waitress what it was, she was snappy and said that's chow-mein, it you want rice that'll be $2.50 or deal with it... I really wanted the rice... I'd say it was 75% the reason I chose to eat there over any other hometown favorite. So I agreed and got my rice. I was pretty disappointed in the experience, maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe it was a bad day for her.... but none the less I left unsatisfied. read more

Wow, this place is gross. I should have followed my first instinct and ran the other direction when I walked into this place, but hindsight is 20/20, right? I came with a group and tried several of the dishes and thought almost everything was slimy and gross. The food was great! Love it! But...Super confusing when ordering. They said the dinner for two meal was different from what was on the board and apparently you couldn't switch sweet and sour pork out for sweet and sour chicken and then you could, but they took off the sweet and sour chicken but left the price...So, basically paid for two things and got one. Basic no frills Chinese restaurant. NOT a buffet which is a good thing in my book. The atmosphere isn't great, I won't lie. We were led into a back room where I half expected to find a pop-up garage sale happening. But the food was delicious and came in large portions. Our host/server was a sweetheart and allowed me to get the lunch portion at 8:30 pm, and was just generally professional and friendly despite his slightly rag tag appearance. The people who run the restaurant were sitting up front eating a pizza from the 5 buck pizza joint across the street which I found amusing - but as my husband pointed out, you don't really want to eat your own restaurant's food every single day. The food is the kind of old school Chinese takeout you can't always find these days, but super tasty. I didn't think to ask if their chicken was all white meat (I know...but I just prefer it), and it was. I had my guilty pleasure dish of orange chicken and I was impressed that instead of being gooey and overly sweet like it often is, it had a crunchy light coating and a sauce that was more spicy than sweet yet retained plentiful orange flavor. Prices were good although this isn't a place that brings you extras like egg rolls or soup. We did get a fortune cookie with the check. I am a little surprised by the generally bad reviews as I was satisfied with the meal and again, the atmosphere/decor isn't going to impress anyone but if you want good ol' Chinese takeout this might just do the trick! read more

Went into this restaurant come to find out that the person who is supposed to be the manager an elderly lady is very rude and disrespectful talking about other servers personal information yelling yelling in the kitchen. When picking up my food I let the lady at the front register know that I didn't enjoy sitting out there listening to this lady yell. When walking out to my car putting the food in the elderly lady stepped outside to tell me that the reason why she yells in the kitchen is so they can hear her. I think that she is very rude and she shouldn't speak about peoples personal business inside of the restaurant she should not be so loud that everybody can hear what she is saying and she should've never stepped outside to yell at me out the door. When calling the restaurant to speak to the manager it happened to be her figured it would make no sense and to try and talk to her so I hung up. My husband and I ate there yesterday June, 18 2017 the mandarin chicken and rice was very good until I found a long hair in my mouth and rice attached to it!! Needless to say I was sickened by it, I told the waitress, and I even gave her the hair attached to the rice, and she said, "what do you want me to do about it"? I told her that I would not be paying for my meal, to which I did not, but we paid for my husbands meal. Something like this will keep me away!! read more

Four stars for takeout, three for the restaurant. The building has become quite run down in the six years I've been going to the Hong Kong Restaurant. I don't eat in very often anymore, but I do get take out. The take out is awesome. Best Chinese food on the west side. I wish they would upgrade the restaurant, but only if it won't impact the take out. :) read more
