Once again a great meal and fabulous service at The Blue Heron! Had lunch here with 9 ladies and a toddler this past week. I had the soup special which was chicken and dumplings, and oh my, it was yummy! Also had their club sandwich which was delicious and prepared the classic way a club should be prepared. Took two desserts to go with dinner later, the cheesecake pumpkin pie and carrot cake and both were amazing! My hubs and I enjoyed our dinner here this evening! We were able to sit outside on their cute patio and had lovely service from our waitress. She was super sweet and very attentive. We enjoyed the following items: Shrimp Rockefeller-a special of the night and so yummy! Cream of crab soup-husband had this and you could see the big chunks of crab meat. 1/2 pound perch with fries and their special of the day Mac salad. Very flavorful fish! Lightly breaded and delicious. Chocolate fudge cake-got this to go and this cake was amazing! All of their desserts are homemade and you can te First time there and we had an excellent dinner! We arrived at 7:30 and the place was packed which is always a good sign, except we then had to wait for about 45 minutes! The special fish dinner was excellent! The only bad part was that they just had run out of their homemade mac and cheese! Still a great special and my other two dining companions enjoyed their seafood pasta dishes. When I hit the road I try to find exotic foods...like iced tea. Not kidding; why is it that world famous cities pay so little attention to this seemingly simple beverage? Blue Heron has a great one. The reason I stopped in was actually for the perch, which were expertly handled. This is an enjoyable fish but it's not like eating buffalo wings, the flavor is on the light/sweet side and Blue Heron respects it by giving it a light dusting instead of battering it to oblivion. The waitress, Danielle, was excellent. The outdoor setting was festive. Perch, to my knowledge, are unavailable within 200 miles of NYC. I had faint hope than an even more exotic seafood choice was available. However, it turns that the "Lake Ontario Lobster Salad" special is about a state of mind, not an actual seafood location. read more

Another great dinner at the Blue Heron! We sat outside on the patio. I enjoyed the Cajun Shrimp and Scallop pasta. My husband had the Honey Hot wings an shared one with me - delicious! He then had the Chicken Parm Sandwich. He particularly like the sauce and the chicken breast was nicely cooked. Our waitress was very nice and helpful when my husband decided to add the wings to his order and got them out to us right away. Side Note: We are visiting from out of town and our dog has been suck and not eating his food. I asked if we could get a plain grilled chicken breast and they were very accommodating - even decorating his to go box! I can't say enough about the service! And he devoured it! read more

We went this evening to the Blue Heron for dinner. We arrived there at approximately at 6:20pm and put I order in around 6:30pm. We received our appetizers at 7:30pm and dinner was served past 8:00pm. The server was very nice and apologetic for the extremely slow service(she still received her appropriate tip). I never waited an hour just to receive our crab cakes and loaded nachos. The crab cakes were delicious and server was very pleasant that is the one star they received. Our main course included two dried out chicken parmesan sandwiches with very little sauce along with a very small handful of french fries! The other dinners were fair. This was the first and last time eating there. I have passed this restaurant for over 30 years of traveling to the 1000 Islands and will not stop there again. I will go to Watertown for dinner next time. I do not advise going to the Blue Heron for dinner. Sad read more

The good was decent but the waitstaff is incompetent, and worse, rude. If you mess up an order just fix it. I won't be mad. But please don't try to get me to eat something I don't want. Then be generally unpleasant afterwards. For the first time in my life I wanted to tip 10%. It being an ex-waitress I could not. I do normally tip over 20. My wife and I had notice this place on our way to Cape Vincent on numerous trips and finally decided to stop in for a meal. The staff was quite friendly and the service was great. The main dining room was comfortable and only 1 table had patrons when we came in. On our way out the door, there wasn't a single open seat! Talk about good timing! :) We both had the fried green bean appetizer along with some french onion soup and their open face prime rib sandwich special. Everything we ate was excellent and we were so stuffed that we took dessert to go. That was also outstanding once we finally dug in a couple hours later. Visited blue heron on a Sunday on a whim. Wanted to reacquaint ourselves to the local fare. Had a mushroom Swiss burger that was beautifully done and big enough for two. The staff is professional and on top of everything and always energetic and smiling, the chef can cook anything and has, prices are very reasonable, atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Friday fish was so big it cover most of the plate with a huge portion of fresh Mac-n-Cheese. Best I've ever had. Hard to finish. I have only been to the Blue Heron once, but it was a wonderful experience. We were there when they were serving fresh local sirloins from the grill. The atmosphere is very casual and laid back, it is clear that this is a local owned family style business, but they take pride in their business and they appreciate their clientele. We sat on the patio, and the breeze from the bay was nice, especially with the local musician's melodic voice as she sang. It was family date night for us, and the staff made an effort to ensure we had food that would be enjoyable to everyone. One of our children ordered the steamers, and they were cooked to perfection. You would feel at home there in casual wear or in your finest duds. Also it is a family friendly place. If you were to bring a large group I would suggest a reservation especially on Friday and Saturaday as they are always busy. Once you have been there you will understand why.
