It was a miracle we found a place, not too far from Fort Drum, because the total solar eclipse happened on April 8th. Lots of Upstate New York was under the direct path. My son and daughter-in-law stayed with us the first night and we scrambled to find a place to have dinner. My son and daughter-in-law had been to The Channelside before so we called to make a reservation. Definitely ask for a table closest to the river or sit on the outdoor patio if the weather is nice. We all liked our dinner. I had a great salad with chicken and possibly a moscow mule. I was too tired to keep track of everyone else's meals, but everyone seemed content. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays, open at 4:00 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. On the weekend they are open at 11:30 a.m.. Definitely go for lunch and sit outside on a nice day. read more

This place was recommended to us when we went to Clayton. I did notice that they had 3 1/2 stars. We thought we'd check it out. The surface was good and parking was easy, but I wasn't a fan of their food. It wasn't that it was bad, but it also wasn't great. The steak was good, but it was a little bit tough and I remember it coming out overdone. I don't know why people can't cook medium rare anymore. It says though there's an adversity too getting sick and so they won't do it. But they did get it right a second time. I'm not sure if I'd revisit this or try some of the other restaurants. Do love Clayton though. read more

Outstanding Dinner at the Channelside. The service was wonderful, prompt and friendly. The River view is breathtaking. Food was, as always, delicious. We had a large party and still received excellent service, refills and drinks promptly. The most amazing aspect of our visit was singer and guitarist, Paul Montgomery. He is truly a superstar find in the North Country. We wish we could have stayed to listen all evening. We will be back frequently on nights that feature Paul. read more

We happened to come on a Sunday evening and it was packed. We were lucky to grab some bar seats and avoid the long wait. We were lucky that the bartenders were wonderful and very attentive because about 5 mins after we ordered our food the power went out in the whole area for the rest of the evening. We were very lucky because somehow our food still made it out and was pretty good. The prime rib was a big healthy portion and was cooked pretty close to medium rare. The scallops were a little chewy and didn't have a char on them but they weren't bad considering what just happened. At that point we were just happy to have food. The bartenders let us enjoy our meal and took down our credit card for when the power went back on. They even texted us a copy of the receipt. Excellent location Excellent place! From the girl who seated us to the waiter "Barry" who waited on us. Don't let the front fool you..in the back is an outdoor seating area cooled by ceiling fans and right on the water beautiful comfortable clean area with a great view . The drinks came quick ..our waiter Barry was spot on even with his knowledge of the River. Food came pretty quick, and was delicious ,maybe the best around the Alex Bay and Clayton area. Plus the area Clayton is such a cool vibe. Price was reasonable, and will definitely go back while we are in the area. Even the inside is great if you can't get outside. The Channelside is a must stop if you are staying in Clayton or nearby. They have a very nice outdoor deck with seating areas in the sun and shade overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The indoor dining area was also lovely, but we chose to eat outside. Great service and great food. We shared the stuffed peppadew peppers and then had the Blue Crunch Steak Salad and Bang Bang Shrimp as entrees. We were very happy with everything we ordered and this will absolutely be a stop anytime we are in Clayton. The stuffed peppers were full of cheesy goodness, the steak was incredibly tender on the salad and I definitely stole at least half of the candied walnuts from my husbands salad, they were just too good. Loved my shrimp, they came sans tails and the sauce was delicious. This is definitely a spot where you could lounge and spend some time having drinks or a long meal. read more

My god we both had the worst Hamburger in our lives, not and so did a table of about 15 people the same. The burgers were well burnt and tasteless. Shock their was a line to get, reason we found out they were very short on waiter staff, no people as their were loads of tables as we saw. Channelside was a great place for dinner. The food was great here. There was a wait when we arrived so we chose to get a table in the bar area. I enjoyed a Channelside Colada which is essentially a blue pina colada. We got an order of wings with the sauce choice of hot. The wings were juicy but the sauce wasn't all the hot. My main meal was a roast beef sandwich with a side salad. The salad was good with mixed greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and ranch dressing. The sandwich was amazing! We've been going to The Channelside for years. This visit was probably our last. Our server was either new & untrained or very forgetful. We ordered two appetizers, one came out but the other was really late. We had to ask for dishes, etc & each time he needed to be reminded. I've ordered the Blue Crunch Salad (my favorite) many times but this time all it was comprised of was a plop of lettuce with two pieces of candied walnuts & and hardly any blue cheese which were both under the lettuce. We went to The Channelside for lunch with our kids. Great atmosphere and amazing seating outside overlooking the gorgeous St Lawrence River. For an added benefit, go around Sunset. I had the classic burger; it was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the brioche bun brought it all together. Side note, I highly recommend the kettle chips. One of my daughters has what can only be described as some pretty amazing mac and cheese. It's not the $1 store-bought kind. If you can't tell, the food was very good. The service was very good as well. Our server was always checking on us and even brought us ketchup without us asking. Overall, I would recommend The Channelside to anyone looking for a good place to eat in Clayton, NY. 10/10. read more

Very nice riverside dining! We came in on a beautiful Saturday evening and had a great meal. River views were beautiful and our meal were excellent. I had their meatloaf which was amazing. Big helpings and quality food. My wife had their scallops and loved them. Our friends had their fish tacos and Philly cheesesteak and they both really liked their meals as well. There are a couple of things I didn't love - the server wasn't super attentive and the bathrooms are single use so there was a long line for both the mens and woman's rooms, but it was a good meal, quality ingredients, large helpings, and reasonable pricing. read more

I've been to Channelside multiple of times of the years and have enjoyed it, went over the Fourth of July weekend and had a terrible experience. Took well over a hour to get lunch and had zero acknowledgement from staff. Waitress was under water trying to do her best and the manager didn't seem to have a care in the world and address the long wait times with any of the tables who were experiencing long waits too, The view is great, the food is good not great .the live band was so loud you couldn't hear anything.I would recommend going elsewhere in Clayton read more

We had a phenomenal experience!!! We went there for a few drinks and lunch. The view of the St Lawrence is exceptional. Our bartender and server Cindy was very kind , knowledgeable and prompt. But honestly, table consensus was, WINGS, WINGS, WINGS! I'd like to note this place is pretty darn busy. "Call ahead" is available, but no reservations. STUPID! Don't count on the snooty hostess to explain this over the phone when you call to make a reservation (speaking from experience). Outside seating is limited, but plenty of seating elsewhere as well as a long roomy bar to chill at. If you sit outside, try to score a seat that looks out at the water so you can enjoy the view, ships/boats and sunset etc. Overall, the Wings and the View are what's worth enduring the hostess and servers. Beautiful place but unfortunately the worst experience ever! Made a 4:30 reservation for 6 only request was to not be sat by the rail. We were put at the table on the rail in full sun & 90 degree weather. Were told we couldn't switch to empty table in the shade that stayed empty for well over an hr. It took 20 minutes for drinks which we drank 10 of in addition to 4-5 pitchers of water because we were dying while we waited over an hour for our extremely overpriced and disappointing food. Our fish fry dinners were cold and looked like something that came out of a Gortons box. We got Channelside nachos which were potato chips and gnarled meat with no cheese. Nothing was done by staff to try to correct problems even though a phone call was made and an email sent. The only thing nice was the husband and wife waiting team we had. After being in full sun for 2 hrs and spending over $300 we were all sick by the time we left. Horrible experience we will never go back! read more

First dinner in Clayton and did not disappoint. We had the skinny dipper martini (so refreshing) and the buoy rocker (a little sweet but still tasty) and an order of the poutine. Delicious! Our entrees were the blackened swordfish special and the salmon. Both dishes had a good amount of fish and were great portions for the prices. Didn't have room for dessert, but maybe next time! What a great restaurant! The view is incredible, the staff are so friendly and accommodating and the food was fresh and well-prepared. They have a blue pina colada drink that's really great too. It is very casual and we ate outside. (Try to sit in the shade, if possible, because it does get very hot directly in the sun on the patio!) It was a really nice way to spend time in Clayton. Service was just terrible. Had a reservation at 7:30. Was told it would be 15 minutes. Ok, no problem. 45 minutes later we were seated at a table for 4 and the reservation was for 5. Ok, let's just order. Drinks first, 30 minutes later and still no drinks, the ticket didn't get turned in. Here, we'll give you chips for a free drink. Got drinks, the vodka, soda w/ cranberry had no cranberry and she wasn't sure which wine was which. She brought a glass of cranberry to add to the drink. Also they were out of 2 dinner choices and never told us about the special until asked. Had no idea who got what salad. Brought 2 dinners at 8:50 the others came 10 minutes later so the 2 were cold by then and were missing mashed potatoes. She apologized saying she forgot to tell us they were out when we placed our order. We ate and enjoyed the food. Never were we asked about dessert. The service ruined what was supposed to be a wonderful meal with my out of state cousins. There was no hostess that we could see. Been to channelside 3 times now and they did not have the asian noodle salad available that is listed on their menu. The waitstaff told us that they have difficulty getting some of the ingredients sometimes- so its hit or miss. As there are no other vegan options on the menu except a plate of lettuce ---it is very disappointing as this dish is excellent When they do produce it. Perhaps the restaurant should consider not putting this on their menu if they cant be consistent about producing it . A few more vegan options would be nice. Waitstaff is great. !! read more
