What a great, out of the way place to have some delicious pizza! We had never been, but so glad we stopped in! Tianna was our server and made suggestions as this was our first time here. We started out with a soda list that included a blonde root beer for me and a Shirley Temple soda for my wife. After we got them, my wife was not a fan of her soda, but Tianna got a replacement of a regular root beer that was a much better choice. The manager came by to make sure the new one was to our liking and also offered more suggestions the next time we came in. We shared a Abruzzese pizza which was delicious. Along with regular dough, they offer gluten free and cauliflower crusts. The inside of the restaurant is small but feels comfortable with booths. Tables and bar seating. We ended our meal with a chocolate budino which was the perfect ending. (Sorry, no pic as it was gone too fast!) No reason to come back over other places. We came here for lunch with family. Very small restaurant, not many tables, but cozy atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly and kind. However our food took ages to come out. The place wasn't packed and for just a few sandwiches and one small pizza and salad we waited about an hour. Not of this takes more than a few minutes to make. The prices are absurd. Very expensive for a pizza place and not worth the money. They serve your food on paper plates with plastic silverware. With how expensive the food is, that is ridiculous. The food was fine. Nothing great, nothing bad. Very high priced for what you get. The only thing making this 3 instead of 2 stars is because the food is fine. read more

We stopped by early in the day to ask if we can have the Patriots on the TV and they said show up and we'll put it on the TV. We came back later ordered a bruschetta which I didn't get a picture of and it was delicious and we ordered a fresh tomato bacon and garlic pizza and it ROCKED!. We also had a cannoli to share. Prices are good and the service is top-notch. If we lived in the area, we would come here at least once a week super super great food super atmosphere and the staff is phenomenal. they had a sangria special, but I didn't get one but all the people around me I could hear him say how great it was. As soon as you step into Blue Highway you get a vibe of a local hot spot but unlike some places they embrace the non-resident and regulars with the same cheerful attitude. We went for a build your own pizza and we were not disappointed. We ordered extra mushrooms, baked garlic and roasted peppers. Nothing fancy here, nice casual place for lunch. If you can sit outside, do. Inside is dark and kinda dingy. I got a Caesar salad, super simple just a paper plate of romaine, shaved parm, croutons and somewhat watered down dressing for $15 which seemed kinda high. Stopped in for a quick bite after visiting Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the hand-tossed Carne pizza, and it absolutely stole the show. The beer selection was fairly average, but the pizza more than made up for it -- flavorful, filling, and cooked perfectly. Their menu always offers something exciting, especially with their rotating featured items -- like the Pizza Maria (sliced balsamic-marinated lamb, herb-roasted tomatoes, scampi butter, Fontina, mozzarella, Parmesan rosemary aioli, and parsley) and the Roasted Beet & Carrot Salad (spring mix, roasted beets, roasted carrots, feta, and honey mustard dressing). The lamb on the Pizza Maria is packed with flavor and pairs beautifully with the other ingredients. I'm really hoping this one sticks around, because I'd happily order it again (and again). The Roasted Beet & Carrot Salad was fresh and delicious. I swapped the honey mustard dressing for balsamic vinaigrette, and the combination of the vinaigrette, roasted beets, and feta worked perfectly. No visit to Blue Highway is complete for me without finishing off with one of their cannolis -- the shells are always crisp, and the filling is some of the best I've had. Since I live nearby, I often order ahead and pick up from their convenient pizza window. My food is usually ready right on time, and even if there's a short wait, it's never too long. If you're dining in, they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor patio is covered and equipped with fans for comfort, while the cozy indoor space showcases local art, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. Wow! This was our first stop after a 5 hour roadtrip, but I believe that even if we hadn't been starving after a long drive, this pizza would have been just as delicious regardless. We ordered the Abruzzese and the Funghi- "two of our best pies" according to our server- but I'm sure anything ordered from their menu would be top-notch and high-quality. Their crust was exceptionally crunchy and the flavors of each pizza were on point. Service was also really wonderful. I was riding home after a full day on the road down in the Leesburg area, and having just come through the Ocala National Forest I was getting pretty hungry. Home was up in Gainesville, but as I was passing through Micanopy I realized I hadn't been to Blue Highway Pizza in a long while, and it was time to fix that. The place really hasn't changed much over the years. It still has that "locals" feel to it that I love, and it is a place that, were it closer to home for me, I would be frequenting a lot more often. Home being on the North side of Gainesville makes it a bit of a trek for me unfortunately. I chose to sit at the bar this time around... no need to take up a four-top when it is just myself. Went through the menu after getting my water, and picked out a lovely looking meat lovers type of pizza. Really, for me though this place has all of the right things going for it... good food, a good vibe from the people working there, and just an all-around solid atmosphere to eat in. I need to go there more often, and will so long as my travels take me into the area at the right times. read more

Blue Highway Pizzeria I'm from NJ/NY, so I'm very picky about pizza--and to make it more complicated, I can't eat cheese anymore. But Blue Highway absolutely nailed it. I had their veggie vegan pizza and it was hands down the BEST I've ever had. The crust was perfectly crisp, the toppings were super fresh, and the flavor was incredible. Love this place... definitely casual and may be off-putting to those not familiar with the rustic charm of Micanopy (for example the bathrooms). The dining room is small, so if you have a large (or even small) party, you might just have to wait. And that's ok. There's certainly a lot to look at if it's a nicer day. Pizza is great and service is friendly and attentive. Some that don't appreciate the rustic charm may enjoy their Tioga location instead. Great meal. read more

The service is always friendly and wonderful. The ambiance is very nice. The problem is the new way food is plated and served. We have always enjoyed everything from there; however, when we stopped today and ordered a favorite, the "humchetta" it was so disappointing to see the bruschetta and white bean hummus served in cardboard cups instead of the usual little serving bowls. Absolute disaster of a trip to the Micanopy version of Blue Highway. It wasn't busy when we ordered and 35 minutes after ordering I was told that our Sicilian pizza wasn't quite ready yet because the thicker crust takes longer. Five minutes later the pizza comes out and the server said, "it's a bit crispy, is that ok?" The pizza was cremated. No apology, no "would you like a soda while you wait for a replacement?". Server never refilled our drinks either. The Tioga location seems to be more modern and with better service. read more

Here's a tip: if you are going to order the Sicilian pizza, which takes longer to make, order by phone ahead of time before you get to the restaurant and let them know that you'll be at the restaurant in 30 minutes. If aren't paying attention as you are heading south on US 441 from Gainesville towards Ocala, you will miss a gem of a pizzeria! Located just off the highway is an unassuming yellow building with a blue canopy. Walk in and you are greeted by an old school bar. Don't let that scare you off though. The staff is amazing and ready to serve you. Blue Highway is a staple of my mom and dad's. Dad and I were in town for something and stopped when I was down to visit over Thanksgiving. The menu is simple but has quite a few choices. The Blue Highway salad is a popular option, which is one of their go to meals. My dad has even come up with his copycat version so they can enoy the salad anytime they want! We weren't there for salads that day. We were craving pizza. I ordered a small pepperoni pizza. Blue Highway's pizza is legendary for a reason. Hot, cheesy, with firm and crispy base. Too many pizzas are flimsy and the base of the pizza gets soggy which doesn't equal great leftovers. I had leftovers for sure. My dad opted for a small pepperoni pizza as well, so I had to keep an eye on my left overs in case he or mom tried abscond with them. Yes, the pizza is that good! If you are in the Gainesville area, Micanopy is just outside of the city limits and easy to get to. I highly recommend you give it a try if you are in town! read more
