I really love this sub place. I used to come as a student back in the 80s when it first opened and was called Hogan's Heroes back then. I'm assuming for a copyright violations they changed the name to Hogan's Great sandwiches, but the sandwich style remains the same. Menu board has remained pretty much unchanged for 40 years with exception of the names. Before the sandwiches used the names of the characters from the TV show, but since they changed the name of the shop, now they're just listed by their components, for example, ham, turkey, roast, beef, etc. This is a cash only establishment, so leave the plastic at home. Sometime you have to wait , sometimes like we do i highly recommend ordering on the phone, so your wait is only till you get through the line to the counter. The food is always amazing from there, their sandwiches remind me of back home when we go order a " grinder" (what we call subs up north.) Located in an old 'bomb shelter' so they say, Hogan's is not the spot to come dressed to the nines and this may not be the spot for a hot date. What it is though, is a spot you've got to try. With a cash-only policy, walking into Hogan's you hit the deli, ATM, and retro arcade game first, and the real fun of televisions and all the workin' men beers you can find are tucked right behind that. The hoagies are made fresh at their deli-style counter, with your choice of toppings and traditional sides such as Potato Salad, Macaroni Salad, etc. that you would find at a NY deli. The meat is sliced fresh and the bread even fresher, and you can taste it in every bite! My personal fave?: #1 with everything on it + peppers, seriously a party in my mouth! So ok, my mistake for not listing off all the "include"; I am used to places like Jersey mikes I guess. When I paid for the food, I didn't get my change (coins), but instead they thru it in the tip jar. Funny thing is, had they not done that, I would have given some dollar bills. In the back is a bar, with seemingly good deals on beer so maybe I'll come back some time when I'm more free to check that out. I stopped in at Hogan's for lunch recently. It has been a good long time since I have been here, and it is a bit off the beaten path for me in the first place. It hasn't really changed. There is still the big sandwich counter right at the front of the place, and then the back is dedicated to the bar area. Wartime memorabilia still adorns the walls, which is a nice touch in my eyes. I used to go to the other location in town (which I understand was not under the same ownership) but they have since closed (quite some time ago, actually). The sandwiches here are still excellent, and I was served well. My order was taken without issue, and I got the (large) sandwich that they are known for. This is a hidden spot that is right next to Big Lots. It doesn't seem like much, til you see the bomb prop sticking out of the wall above the door. I had no idea it was World War Two-themed!! I have never seen a sandwich shop dedicated to WW2 with real war memorabilia on display! You walk in, and it's not crowded, but there is one cook behind the counter with his head in his work, and a bunch of old friends are sitting down and watching sports, drinking beer and relaxing. Another server drops off the last of their thirst-quenching brew to fuel their stories. There are pictures of warplanes all over the walls, along with real gov-issue soldier gear that you will have to see to find out. I won't tell here! There are also other war era pictures and props as well. I was a kid in a candy store, as I named off all the planes in full color frames streen all over the restaurant. It is a very genuine atmoshere! At the counter, after the beer was decided, I got a foot-long sub, (#8 combo). It was a good sandwich, but it was the biggest footlong sub I ever ate!! My date got a turkey reuben and chips. (She only finished half) It turned out to be two and a half meals for me; you get your money's worth at Hogan's!! It is what it is when you look around.
