Was such a quaint little place the sandwich was delicious. We got the Cuban sandwich and we split it. It was absolutely the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had and I live in Miami. My friend also had a cup of chili and he really loves chili and he said it was great and how a little cinnamon taste to it just a little bit. Service was fast. You could tell they made the sandwich right then people were very friendly and I really like the little shop that was part of the restaurant I picked up something to take home. read more

This casual cafe restaurant located on Main Street in Micanopy offers a lot of old Florida charm. The very eclectic atmosphere of the indoor/outdoor eating establishment under oak trees featuring antique decor, signs and trinkets to view while waiting for your food. I ordered at the counter the Double Grilled Cheese $9.95 and the homemade fresh Blueberry Cheesecake $5.50. Everything was delicious. A party of three of us ate here on a Thursday as that's when it seems most places in Micanopy are open on a weekday. It was our first visit to the town, which doesn't have many eating establishments. This place is set on the first floor of an old two story house and has a small indoor eating area richly decorated with a lot of kitschy stuff - wouldn't call them antiques as their website claims - as well as outdoor tables. The menu is reasonably large and the prices are relatively fair compared to the deli style restaurant next door. Two of us ordered the mojo pork platter while the other ordered the grilled cheese sandwich. I also inadvertently ordered a side of buttered Cuban toast. I say inadvertently because the lady who took my order originally led me to believe that it was a substitute for some sides that came with my platter. Well, I was charged for it nonetheless but, it was the best thing that I ate there - delicious. The bread was excellent, well buttered, and warmly pressed. However, the portion was not large for the $3.25 price. This usually goes for about $1.50 to $2 in any other Cuban place - if not offered for free as is traditional (like chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant or bread and olive oil at Italian restaurants). The platter came in a large bowl with the pork, yellow rice, and black beans separate from each other and the portions were generous. The pork was cooked very well and authentically Cuban - I was born in Cuba and have eaten Cuban food my entire life. Unfortunately, the mojo seasoning was too heavy, which completely masked the flavor of the pork instead of complimenting it. The yellow rice that came with the platter was good and the black beans were fair. They could have used a bit more sofrito seasoning (onion, garlic, green pepper) and should have been cooked a little longer as the beans were too firm. They also offer a variety of dessert options, but we opted to go elsewhere for that so we could experience more of the town offerings. I regret not trying their coconut cake, which is one of my favorites and I heard from one of the locals afterwards is delicious As for the service, the two ladies behind the counter were pleasant but not tremendously attentive. I stood in front of the counter for several minutes with no one around, not knowing whether to order over where the cash register was or in front of the glass dessert case. They didn't have a sign indicating where orders would be taken, and the ladies seemed to ignore me for quite a while until I ended up asking. If I were to visit Micanopy again, I would probably give this place another try, but I'd definitely request that the pork be lightly seasoned or ask for the mojo on the side. I would also have the black beans on the side only because I do not like to mix my beans with yellow rice. I may also try some of their other dishes and I would definitely have their coconut cake. read more

A wonderful place to stop for delicious food and local flair! The restaurant is not far off I-75 and it is definitely worth visiting. The restaurant is quaint with counter service and food delivered to your table, whether you sit indoors or outside. The restaurant is decorated with antiques (many of them are for sale) and it's quite charming. The staff is super friendly and willing to accommodate any special request you may have. They will even make you items that aren't on the menu, like salads, if you ask. We visited for lunch on a Wednesday, and I'm so glad we did. My wife enjoyed a "perfectly pressed" Cuban Sandwich sans mustard (by her request) while I enjoyed the Mojo Pork Meal. The large portion of pork was moist and tasty, and sat atop a large bowl of perfectly cooked black beans and yellow rice. There was no way I could eat all of this for lunch, so I took 1/2 with me for dinner. By the way, they also have a great selection of hot sauces. I chose a sauce called Tabanero from Delray Beach, FL. It worked really well with the beans and rice. I highly recommend Old Florida Cafe for lunch while traveling. We had a delicious lunch at the Old Florida Cafe- we liked it so much, we return after walking off lunch for pie and cafe con leche! Lunch- cuban sandwich for me which was flavorful and hit the spot and John went with the pastrami on rye- which he inhaled, so.... I'm going with he enjoyed every bite. And he was the one who wanted pie! lol We returned and had a root beer creamy pie- oh my, it was so different and so delicious. My coffee was good, I've honestly had better- but I have a bunch of Cuban restaurants locally and back in Tampa that I frequent. Doesn't feel like a fair comparison. This gem is tucked in a quaint Street lined with Spanish moss trees and wonderful antique shops. Great way to enjoy the sunshine with its old school, chill patio vibe. Mostly outdoor seating, which is where you want to be anyway! This is not a fancy restaurant. You order by the counter and they bring food out. You clean your own plates afterwards. What they lack in fancy service, they make up in the uber cool vibe. Cuban sandwich was yum. Reuben was just ok. Hotdogs are nothing special. Key lime pie and coffee were great. Take a detour off I75 to enjoy a stroll in the historic town of Micanopy. I have been eating at this establishment for over twenty years. It may have changed ownership throughout this time but the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service never changes. The Cuban sandwich and a slice of key lime pie is my favorite, but they have a good variety of other stuff to choose from. If you're lucky you will get to hear some local ghost stories from some regular patrons as I did on the day I visited. read more

In one of those exploring Florida trips my husband and I like to do on the weekends, we came upon the little and adorable town of Micanopy where we found Old Florida Café. I immediately liked the place because the décor has a lot of Cuban nostalgia. We loved their outdoor patio overlooking the street, shaded by old/tall trees, very cool and relaxing. After having a brief conversation with the staff, we were so glad to have chosen it for lunch. The indoor space is scattered with tables and antique items on shelves. It is both antique store and café. You order at the counter and food is brought to the table. We ordered, 2 Cubans, (one of them with extra shredded pork); their refreshing ice tea, and shared a slice of key lime pie. All dishes are made on premise. They were deliciously good! The Cubans were one of the best I have tried so far in Florida. The mojo they use is authentic and gives it a special touch. The key lime pie had just the right combination of sweet and sourness. It was so good I did not want to share it! The Old Florida Café is a hidden gem! Well worth trying if you are in the area! read more

Had a wonderful lunch at Old Florida Cafe. Everyone was abuzz about the rice and beans, Black beans and Yellow rice, so I thought I would try it. Wow! It was delicious! You can add onions, cheese and salsa on the side. Highly recommend! I also ordered a slice of Key Lime pie and I wished I had ordered two! So good. The ambience was really quaint. There were 2 tables inside and the rest was all outdoor dining with the beautiful Live Oaks overhead giving shade and offering a slight breeze. It is all decorated in an eclectic, Florida style which is very welcoming. The staff here was exceptionally great! Everyone was so friendly, helpful and very accommodating. Quick service and quick delivery to your table! I wished I had thought of taking a picture of my meal but it looked & smelled so good I just ate! We went on our way home from Gainesville. Was told Micanopy was a good place to visit for the day. Not much there but this restaurant and a few antique shops. They ran out of unsweetened tea. We had the Cuban sandwich which I'll give 4 stars. We also had the Reuben sandwich which was good but could have had more meat. I'll give it 3.5 stars. Ambiance was 3.5 stars - really just looking at the street. Service was good, give that 4.5 stars. Overall it was ok, if you are in the area, but don't go too far out of your way. read more

Interesting old café, totally off the beaten path, but charming. Every table was full!! We sat outside under an enormous old oak tree, dripping with Spanish Moss, absolutely charming. The café is known for their rice and beans, chili, Reuben sandwiches, and Cuban sandwiches. I ordered the chili and my husband ordered the pulled pork with rice and beans.. After we waited several minutes for our food, the waitress meandered out, quite hopeless, told us they ran out of beans, and there were no substitutions so we payed full price for an order that was missing 1/3! I asked if they were substitutions, but she just muttered, "I don't know". The yellow rice was good but the pulled pork was cold, very disappointing. The chili was hot but quite strange with red beans, chopped tomatoes, and some hamburger in what appears to be tomato soup. Five Stars for ambience but only Two stars for food. Best BLT and Key Lime Pie anywhere. It's hard to find good bread in FL, this cafe's bread has great flavor and texture and toasts nicely. Unlike a lot of bacon in The South, this isn't overly cured with sugar: balances nicely with salty and smoky flavors. Their mayonnaise (also not sweetened) pulls the bread, bacon and tomato flavors together really well. Key Lime Pie is also not overly sweet, citrus flavor comes forward very nicely with crust. We try Key Lime Pie wherever it's offered in FL and this is unquestionably the best. read more

Whenever I'm in Micanopy, I stop by the Old Florida Cafe for a Cuban sandwich (and I did that just today). Other than canned soda, that's all I've eaten there, that sandwich is the only food I can comment on. My review: PERFECT. It's just hands down the best Cuban sandwich I've had (and I've had a few here and there). The price on the sandwich isn't ultra-cheap or anything, but it's eminently reasonable for what you're getting. The atmosphere is great -- I prefer to sit on the patio outside with lots of shade-throwing trees over me -- and the people who run and/or work at the place are always friendly and helpful. I enjoy eating there in every way that matters (except for it not being next door to my house and therefore requiring a trip to get to). read more

Just because you're having a bad day doesnt mean you have to spew your nasty attitude at every customer who enters! Thats my advice to the middle-aged bratty woman who was taking orders yesterday. This woman, who seems to be related to the owner, was taking lunch orders at a busy time and it was hectic and they were short staffed, but she was LOSING HER SHIT and that is no exaggeration. Lady, its JUST food! I would venture to guess many of the patrons were visitors to this small, quaint sleepy town of Micanopy, as was I. I never want to go back because I'd have to share the air this annoyingly rude woman breathes. Get the corn cob outta your ass and be MUCH better! As for the food, it tasted ok, we were hungry and travelling so it was fine. The grilled cheese sandwich was on the most miniature bread ever made and hubs and I were splitting. I finished my half sandwich in TWO bites, no joke. Rice and beans ok, cole slaw alright, key lime pie pretty good. But again, hubs and i split it and I finished my half of the slice of pie in TWO bites. Idk, underwhelmed! And, after getting verbally abused by the not-curing-cancer order taker, i paid for the bill and added a nominal tip. Let me just remind everyone, a tip is earned, its a gift for a job well done. Friendly service, amazing food, beautiful setting! The Cuban sandwich I had was SO fresh and delicious, highly recommend. The bread was so perfect, that ideal soft center and crispy crust. Then the banana pudding was insanely good. It's one of my favorite foods, and what they serve is what banana pudding dreams are made of. I mean seriously. Just too good. Love the patio but there's indoor seating too. If you haven't been in a while, it's a bit less cluttered inside which is a good thing. (I've always loved this place, but just to update you.) This was a delightful cafe and experience. I took the family out to visit the town of Micanopy, and at lunch time we were recommended to eat here. Solid recommendation. The people working the restaurant were clean, kind, and welcoming. We ordered a Cuban sandwich, two plates of beans and rice, with sweet tea and some key lime pie. We rand them out of the sweet tea from the front of the restaurant however the server brought out refills a few minutes later. The Cuban was perfect! The presentation made it appear more like a panini than what I've had before, but a welcome change. My wife and daughter loved the beans and yellow rice, one topped with cheddar, the other naked. Unfortunately we were only able to get one slice of key lime pie. It was the last piece of the pie. It was a generous portion so we just split it 3 ways. The restroom was clean and well stocked. There was an outside eating area which was set up very nicely. Numerous patrons were dining outside. Very limited indoor seating available, but the restaurant did what they could with the space available. We will definitely be back! read more

Really cool and unique place. Overall, high score, but I'm here to review one thing. I went there specifically for the Cuban sandwich, as I do Cubano reviews on YouTube (goofy, I know, but I love these things). I have been meaning to get to this joint for awhile. A solid Cubano overall. The bread was super thin and crisp, a great press. Perfectly melted cheese. The only negative was the pork. It was sliced pork, which isn't ideal, and there was only one slice on the sandwich. If they step up the pork game, this would/could up there on my Cubano reviews. My style- thin and crisp, just needs a LITTLE more pork. Cool spot!
