I'd enjoyed Blue Loon pastries before, but until recently had never visited the bakery myself. A few days ago, I treated my mom to a stop there for lunch, and it was a wonderful experience. It was lunchtime on a Friday and New London was bustling, yet picking up lunch couldn't have been easier. The sandwiches--made on Blue Loon's own breads--were freshly prepared, neatly wrapped, and stocked in the refrigerator case beside the baked goods. We also picked up a few scones to take home. What impressed me most was the staff. Three young students were working that day, and they were some of the most poised, cheerful, and courteous attendants I've encountered anywhere. One young man immediately understood what I was looking for, gathered everything efficiently, and his colleague had us checked out in no time. In a region already known for friendly people, their professionalism really stood out. The bakery itself was sparkling clean, and I appreciated that the tables were spaced farther apart than is typical, creating a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Next time, I'd love to stay and enjoy a meal there. And the scones? They're some of the best around--always seasonal, always delicious. If you're planning ahead, pick up some clotted cream from the Lebanon or Hanover Food Co-op along with a jar of strawberry jam, brew a pot of tea, and you'll have a treat worthy of an English afternoon tea. read more

Every year our family does a reunion in Sunapee, and Blue Loon is the restaurant I look forward to all year leading up to it. Everything here is amazing. I've never had a single pastry, sandwich, drink, granola parfait etc that wasn't excellent. I especially like the breakfast sandwich on multi grain. I think Blue Loon is as good as any national award winning bakery. It's always special to come here. Also the last time I was here someone from a local food pantry stopped by to pick up provisions - they're clearly invested in their community and trying to give back. Go! Blue loon bakery was quaint and adorable in every single way. I was in town for a friend's birthday and looking for a morning coffee to grab for the group. I did some googling and stumbled upon this coffee shop. From the outside it looks like a charming New England house, and the inside is restored into a coffee shop while still maintaining some of that classic New England homey charm. I got coffee and a croissant and spent some time sitting by the fireplace in the living room portion of the coffee shop. Some of my friends came with me and we really just enjoyed our time catching up over a coffee and pastry. It did end up getting really busy so make sure to come either during the off-season or early in the morning. The coffee was really yummy and the croissant was scrumptious too. Almond croissant, chocolate croissant, morning roll, scones, pistachio chocolate chip cookies, sesame bagels, cheese danish...all amazing! Simply the best. The best - yes, the best bakery I've been in New England. And it's become an icon in the community of New London and up and down the Kearsarge area. As well, it has garnered the distinction as one of "The Best of New Hampshire". That speaks volumes Blue Loon also has the happiest staff working there. The owners, Lori and Mike, have made it a purpose to treat their employees like family, to train them in customer ethics and to support them in a community where the safety net for lower paid workers is often lacking. So, I'd like to split up my review a little. What are you looking for? If you want a lovely coffee shop with great ambiance and bakery items, 5-stars. They even have some nicely sized and spaced tables that appear conducive to working at. If you want a place to get some work done that requires internet, don't go here. I so so so wanted this to be my place but the internet here is TERRIBLE. I have spent the last hour sitting here trying to get a shred of work done but I have to attempt to re-connect every 3-4 minutes. I thought it was me but eventually went up to ask about it. The answer I got was along the lines of "Oh, we know. When it's a little busy the internet doesn't work". When I suggested maybe working on that I got a little giggle and that they'd considered it. So, I will go here when I want to sit around and talk. When I want to work, I'll go back to Grounds a couple blocks away. read more

Holy cow is this place just amazing!! Everything is extremely fresh and tasty. Parking on street and in back. Indoor and outdoor seating. Price point on items is on the highish side but honestly each item is a masterpiece and well worth it. You can tell the food is made with passion and attention to detail plus I love to support local businesses. I had the avocado toast. After I stared at the art before me for awhile, I dug in and oh so good. Just a hint of lemon aioli on my palate and the freshest avocado.. oh my. You get a choice of bread and you can add egg or bacon. My hubby had the pressed egg sandwhich and he raved about it the whole time we got a selection of the pastries and again...mind blowing!!! Overpriced and uhdercordial. Girl behind the counter acted bored and like she wished she was anyplace else. Everybody has an "off" day. Take a sec, raise and drop shoulders, deep breath, when that customer leaves, go into restroom, silent gr-r-r-r at the mirror,remind self; by this time (????) it'll all be over. I was a flite-attendant for 45 years, locked up in a tube with a couple hundred people, some DESIDEDLY unpleasant, most well-behaved but all it takes is ONE, so I know from whence I speak. What a nice find. We're staying at the Follansbee Inn a few miles down the road and just exploring the countryside when we happened across this bakery. It is bright, clean and loaded with goodies. Our coffies, one dark and one light roast were perfect. I had the gingerbread scone and Irene had a coffee bun. Outstanding. Her bathroom was clean---always a big thing with us. I looked around. I desperately wish this place was located where I lived! I tried the Egg & Cheddar Press and a cranberry & date scone. Both were terrific. The coffee (Wayfarer) was great was well. Everything in the bakery cases, from the breakfast pastries to the pies looked delicious. This place has a good mix of hot and savory and cold and sweet breakfast offerings. read more

I don't get it. Grab a sandwich from the case for $12 a piece of lettuce, tomato, a slice of cheese and 2 slices of roast beef. Then I added a packet of mayo and mustard which are available with other condiments. I had to dress my own sandwich to make it palatable so my question is . . . How is this the best of NH? It was lack luster and subpar on many levels. My wife ordered a London Fog - can someone please tell them adding a tea bag to steamed milk in not how to brew tea. Blue Loon is one of my favorite parts of living near Lake Sunapee. The cozy seating, warm wood, local art and efficient service make it delight. A quick bagel or sourdough run, grabbing a few sandwiches for the slopes, a pastry sampler or cozy breakfast / lunch, you'll be happy you came here. Their seasonal scone selection is my favorite, if you can get the maple pecan--you must! Their lacquered dough treats (almond, chocolate, plain, savory) croissants, morning bun and an every changing variety of danishes are delightfully fresh. They have a light variety of heartier foods (soup, sandwiches, quiche) that will keep you full. Don't forget to check out their take home merchandise: local cheese and the chocolate/raspberry spread is a favorite for hostess gifts. Stopped in while visiting New London, NH. The bakery was quite busy but the line moved quickly and efficiently. While we were there (after 10am on a Sunday) there were fresh items being removed from the ovens, implying there is always something new. We ended up getting some of their monkey bread and found it very good. If you have time, there is lounge seating to enjoy coffee, reminiscent of visiting a friend's home and sharing a cup of coffee. read more

It was a pretty good bakery spot for a rural town. Their chocolate chip cookies were impressive with rich chocolate, an outer crunch and inside softness to it. Their pumpkin bread was super soft and moist with great flavor and would highly recommend. The banana walnut and pretzel were so so and a little overcooked. Last but not least, the weekend cinnamon roll they make is AWFUL. DO NOT GET THE CINNAMON ROLL. Everywhere I go, I try the local cinnamon roll and this one GOES DOWN AS THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD. For 4.50, the bread is overcooked you have to rip it up with two hands to get a piece. There wasn't enough cinnamon in the pastry and it was definitely NOT SOFT which ALL CINNAMON ROLLS should be and the frosting had a lot to be desired. Remember to have all the pastries warmed up like I did... and remember DO NOT TRY THE CINNAMON ROLL--- Its AWFUL. They have other pastries and sandwiches and whatnot, but stick to the choc chip cookie warmed up. read more

I never thought I'd find pastries this good in the middle of New Hampshire, but these are the real deal. The croissants are crispy and perfectly flaky with ample filling. They are just as good as croissants you'd find at a bakery in a big city, if not better. The sticky buns have just the right amount of gooey sticky caramel on top and soft innards. I didn't get a chance to try their other pastries, but they looked excellent. Prices are high, but I'm not about to laminate dough myself on a weekend, so I think they're justified. My friends who live nearby swear by this bakery, and it's easy to see why. We'll definitely be coming back when we want our pastry fix. read more

Very charming little place. They even have a fireplace in one of the other rooms. I had a croissant breakfast sandwich. The pastry was light and flaky and the eggs were ffluffy. I also had an iced chocolate Chai. Delish! My friend had quiche and that came with a small side salad. Two thumbs up! I ordered two custard Danish to go as well. Utterly disappointed. Living in a remote area, we rely on Blue Loon as there is not a lot of bakeries around. Drove 30 minutes for their avocado toast, to which I was told they were not serving because the avocados were not ripe. Interesting, but ok so I asked for a piece of quiche, which they didn't have either. And then after being told they only have Asiago bagels, I went with the bacon, egg and cheese press out of desperation. I waited 20 minutes and by that time was extremely hungry. I decided I would just eat it on my way home instead of waiting but what I found when I got to the car was that the bacon was all fat and the egg was ice cold. Feels as though it may have been sitting there for a bit before being handed to me. Terrible experience overall and will be boycotting for a bit. Don't expect to go and have a lot to choose from on their hot menu items. read more

Blue Loon offers tasty pastries and sandwiches. I live more than an hour away but was happy to make the drive because of their online ordering system. Now that online ordering has been discontinued, the items available for purchase are a gamble. There's also a good chance that there's a line. Neither of these problems existed with online ordering. I've seen Blue Loon management respond to other reviews with this same complaint. While I appreciate it the explanation, it's not enough to convince me to come back. read more
