The staff is very personable and friendly - the tour is given with the same preciseness as the beer recipes themselves. You'll get one part delicious (the beer), one part science (the education of how sour beers are made), and one part fun (the staff and brewery environment). I visit Austin quite a few times of the year and this is a must go place every time. If you're a sour beer fan, you'll love this place! If you don't like sour beers then I wouldn't go. The place is small and cozy, and has a nice outdoor patio area to sip on some sours in the sunshine. It's also really affordable given that sours are always one of the more expensive beers on a menu, $15 for 4 12oz. pours and you get to keep the glass. It's great! read more

I only made it in for a bit in January 2016. I had more of their beer at Craft Pride. Parking was hard and I wasn't a fan of the tokens/taster situation. I like to have a full pour of a beer, not tasters of four beers. Anywhooo... the beer is phenomenal. I love sours (Crooked Stave and Jester King being two favorites). So first let me say that I am a huge beer and brewery fan! Whenever I am in a new city I always try to go to a brewery or two. I am from Houston and whenever I am in Austin I have a hard time not stopping by Blue Owl Brewing for a few pints. My love for sour beers is still in the infant stage, but Blue Owl is making that growing process go a lot faster! Sours! Pleasantly surprised that my celiac inflicted girlfriend could drink something at a brewery, tea! They brew it in house. Short bike ride from downtown. Informative tenders and excellent selection of real sours. Buy your glass, price varies by size, and get 4 fills. Keep your glass. Turned out to be great. $11 for about 2 pints and a glass. Recommend the Professor Black Sour Cherry Stout. Might be the best sour I've had. read more

Great new brewery. They do all sour mash beers, so every beer will be slightly sour... Which is awesome. The staff was very nice and helpful. They have awesome glasses that you get to keep with 3-4 tastes of different beers. Very cool set up with nice outside porch. Definitely a place to stop in when you are on the east side. read more

This review is completely based on the Service and the guy bartender who was working when we came in. We came in advance of a large group of 8 people and sat down at the bar trying to decide what we were going to order. The guy bartender rudely dismissed us from the bar and told us to get in line behind the group that came in after us. We grabbed an info sheet on the beer and had it taken away from us by staff. The staff refused to even let us look at their beer descriptions while we waited in line. We love sour beers and were extremely disappointed with the staff and the experience. We would never try this place again, and would not recommend to friends due to the poor service and bartender etiquette. read more

All the beers are sours. While I'm not a fan of sours, a few were interesting. Here's the rub, the staff sucks. They were rude and a little condescending. I asked for a suggestion since I don't LOVE sours. The response was "why did I come to a sour brewery". Then we tried to join the 3pm tour and were told we would have to pay 5$ each. Really? Great marketing! Way to turn off a potential promoter and raving fan. I just don't understand spending thousands on marketing and promotion, the treating customers like they are doing you a favor patronizing your business. Dumb! The only exception was Morgan. I love this microbrewery. I'm a huge sour fan and these guys do it well. It's such a fun spot to throw back a few, hang with friends and even your pup. If you don't like sour beers, this is not for you. If you do, I highly recommend it. They have a great selection of their own sour-mashed beers that you can enjoy there or take home. Their indoor area is cute and pet-friendly. They also have outdoor seating to take advantage of the Austin weather. The staff are all really nice and friendly and offer great suggestions. I fell in love with their Sours at the Texas Craft Beer Festival so I wanted to check out the brewery. Blue Owl is very welcoming place with some sofas, tables and small patio. The staff encourages you to bring food in from any food trucks close by or order for delivery. You have a couple of choices for sampling and you get to keep the glass. Since I had a long trip back home I choose 8oz and I had four samples to enjoy. It's dog friendly even though Wookie isn't sometimes to men. They offer water bowl for your pups. He's protective of his Mommy and strangers. He found himself more comfortable in my lap. I guess he wanted to belly up to the bar as well. Of course I obliged my spoiled pup. I had a great Cuban sandwich. Cool in the Gang was great and I really wanted to take home the SMash Smash. It was outstanding. It was a seasonal . That just means I'll have to take another trip and hop they'll have something just as tasty the next time I go. Look for Blue Owl at your local speciality stores. read more

I'd never had sour mash beer in my life and I know I don't like IPAs. However, the collaboration between Blue Owl Brewing & Blackstar Coop called I Can't Quit You was phenomenal. I LOVED it. The double IPA is probably my most positive beer experience ever. It's compelled me to try more of the offerings from B.O.B. (my new nickname for Blue Owl), each one as intriguing as the last. If you want to try something uniquely different, I suggest you head to Blue Owl and hang out on the patio - where dogs are welcome.
