Fabulous! My friend Tiffany told me about Anthem on Rainy Street. Neither of us had been, and also it's been years since we've been on Rainy Street. So we thought we would make a whole night of it. Tiffany did make reservations for us for 7pm and even though this is a bar hopping neighborhood, even at 7pm it was pretty busy. Streets were full of people. Anthem had a vibe. I felt the energy as soon as I waked in. The cozy booths with the U shaped seating with plush green velvet fabric. Wait staff wore Hawaiian shirts. Sitting up behind me on a ledge was the Easter Island statue. Insert (Night At The Museum) here, dumb dumb give me gum gum. Anthem was our first stop tonight. Just drinks and a dinner. I ordered the Peach Fuzzy drink. Not too sweet, refreshing, peachy, and beautiful garnish of a flower. I ordered the Yummy Fries which looked like a salad. Gorgeous presentation. Fries were actually waffle sweet potatoes. Pickled ginger, sesame seeds, furikake, aïoli and a few other wonderful ingredients. Could not get over how beautiful everything looked. Presentation outstanding. Service delightful. Had a wonderful time at Anthem. We both did use the ladies rooms before leaving. Inside the bathroom there is a sign about safety and if you need assistants. I did take a picture of it. On our way out, Brian the manager, said good night to us and waved. Came here for happy hour! The restaurant was clean and spacious, with plenty of seating. They also have a large outdoor patio. The service was great, and the staff checked on us frequently. We ordered the Hawaiian shrimp ceviche, salmon poke, and brisket rangoons. Everything was super tasty, but the brisket rangoons were the star of the show. I came here for a Galentines happy hour and our group of four had a wonderful time. Things I loved about Anthem: - They had an extensive list of things on their happy hour menu which made it really easy for us stick to ordering off it! I was a big fan of yummy fries, miso mac and cheese balls, and don't even get me started on the lychee martini (the definition on light and refreshing). - They were willing to make accomodations and remove the bonito flakes for a few of their items in order to make them vegetarian - Our server was super attentive and checked in on us multiple times. Came here over the weekend for a bachelorette party and OMG this was the best food I had all weekend! I started with a blood orange frozen martini and it was the best frozen martini I've ever had. We appetizers we had a little bit of everything, including the yummy fries and the brisket rangoons and ceviche. I would come back alone for just that. First time at Anthem, did not disappoint!! We went on a Sunday, which had ALL DAY happy hour! Score! The menu for happy hour did not skimp out either. We got the salmon poke bowl, charred edamame, shrimp ceviche, and itchy salmon. The itchy salmon, just order it. You may need two or three servings though. It's bite size, but oh so good! The shrimp ceviche was a little bit spicier than anticipated, so beware. We got the banana daiquiri and Magnum PI for drinks, and the banana flavor wasn't too heavy which I was worried about. Big fan! It's conveniently located in a very walkable area, really pretty inside, and offers a good variety of food. Got their coastal shrimp and fries - loved every bit of it. First of all, this place deceptively large! The interior is nicely decorated and the booths are cool. The bar seats have back, which is always nice. The service was EXCELLENT. My wife and I planned to share two plates because we like trying multiple items when we go out. This may be the first time I've ate at a restaurant where they took it upon themselves to actually split the food and plate both dishes separately. Now THAT'S service. We had the Hapa Hot Chicken and the Sesame Seared Salmon. The chicken was excellent. It came with a nice dipping aoli for the sweet potato fries. Lots of good flavors in that sandwich. We celebrated three birthdays at Anthem on Rainey Street, and it was the perfect spot for our group! We chose Anthem mainly because they have great vegetarian options -- something that's usually a challenge for us since half our group is vegetarian. This time, no one felt limited. We arrived around 6:45 PM and were pleasantly surprised to find out happy hour runs until 7 PM, so we quickly ordered from that menu. Our group favorites were the Anthem House Margarita, Peach Fuzzy, and Magnum P.I. -- definite standouts. The vegetarian appetizers were impressive in both variety and flavor. We ordered the Charred Edamame, Chips & Guac, Thai Hippie Tofu, Char-Buff Cauliflower, Hatch Chile Queso, and their yummy fries, and everything was delicious. For non-veg, we tried the Itchy Salmon, JFC Popcorn Chicken, and Miso Mac Daddy. All were good, though the popcorn chicken was slightly on the sweeter side. We were pretty full by the time mains came around, so we shared the Root Burger, Sesame Seared Salmon, and Jalapeño Smash Burger. We did notice fewer vegetarian main options, but it wasn't an issue since the appetizers were so satisfying. We ended with the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding, which was perfect for sharing and absolutely delicious. What a delicious way to end our trip for ACL (Austin City Limits music festival)! I've been eyeing this Asian-fusion restaurant ever since we stayed around Rainey, and finally got a chance to see how it is. The decor alone reminds me of a mix of Mid-century Modern and Hawaiian/Polynesian. It's bright, cozy, and colorful, just like the food. I started with the popular Anthem Smashed Burger and an upgraded side of Furikake Fries. The Burger is quite good, if not a bit dry at first until you get a couple ore bites in and taste the salt & pepper aioli. On the hand, it's nice to have a crunchy, savory burger that's not drenched in sauce and you can actually enjoy the burger patty itself. The Furikake Fries are the star of the show for me, however. They're perfectly fried and seasoned with salt, sesame seed, and the very tasty furikake (Japanese seaweed). It is so delicious by itself, as well as with the Sriracha Ketchup! Sadly, they were having a bit of an issue with their oven so I won't be able to try the Upside Down Pineapple Bread Pudding, but they took care of me with the Hong Kong Waffle with Vanilla ice cream. There is a lot of components here with the green tea matcha bubble waffle sundae (I chose Vanilla ice cream), topped with Oreo cookie crumbles, Mochi candies, the iconic Pocky Japanese chocolate sticks, and sea salt caramel drizzle. I happened to stumble upon Anthem by accident when looking for a place to eat for lunch on a Sunday afternoon in downtown Austin. Seating was ample and there wasn't much of a crowd at the time I went, but it seems like it would be a more happening spot on a Friday or Saturday night with it being so close to Sixth Street. For my entrée, I had the beetroot burger which went unpictured, but it was absolutely delicious! I am always appreciative of restaurants that take the initiative to offer substantial vegetarian-friendly options. What I found most intriguing was the Pacific Islander-inspired decor, but also an interesting bulletin in the ladies room. It said that any woman who felt like they were in an uncomfortable situation could ask for an "umbrella cocktail", which notifies the staff that the woman who requested it needs help getting out of an uncomfortable situation. When I was passing by the place and the inner decorative was very inviting, so I decided to give it a try. The staff are all friendly and did recommend some dishes to me. It was really refreshing and light-- also on the happy hour menu for $8! I tried the yummy fries which were good, but had a little too much sauce-- a little overwhelming. The restaurant does not validate parking so expect to spend at least $40 if you park in the garage next door for a 2 hour dinner. Our server was very attentive and gave us good recommendations. We ordered a few things to share and our own entrees. Cauliflower was really good, not too saucy and cooked well. Shrimp ceviche was mediocre. It wasn't limey and overall lacked sauce. It also came with a ridiculous amount of chips for such a small bowl. Two girls got the noodles but mentioned they thought it would have a bed of lettuce but it was actually just shredded lettuce mixed in. I got the smash burger with sweet potato fries. Anthem is a cute (read: grammable) Asian fusion corner bar restaurant on Rainey that doesn't have much street parking nearby. There are paid parking garages across (outdoor) and adjacent (indoor). Apparently enough people make this mistake to warrant a sign outside with an arrow to the entrance, which is closer to the end of the block I love a good match box! Located on the host/ess desk. Given the quality of the appetizers, the happy hour deals are solid and worth organizing your schedule to take advantage of. On Sunday it's all day. The Thai hippie tofu is a must. The tofu pieces were hearty, substantial, incredibly flavorful, good balance of greens on it. The salmon poke had too much soy sauce. The tempura seaweed was interesting. A bit oily. I'd pass on this. On the entrees, the ubiquitous Texas burger had good feedback. Fries or any sides extra $. The cauliflower side was cooked well, not seasoned well. Summary is that We go to Anthem for their Sake shots. This is a place right at the end of Rainy street, very chic ambience inside, and a nice patio to sit out, which was necessary for us because of Mylo. They have a damn good happy hour that goes from 12-7 weekdays and has Sake shots in it. The itchy salmon is amazing and the tofu appetizer was very good too. The Chicken and Waffle main course is a different take on the dish and it might work for some. The presentation is fancy and I liked it but the waffle shape was different than conventional waffle and does not have slot to put syrup in which did not work for me. A cute and vibey spot at the end of Rainey street. The decor and full aesthetic is so fun. The menu is Tex Mex and Asian fusion. We went with a large group and got a giant selection of the shareables which were on happy hour. The crowd favorite was the yum yum fries which were packed with well balanced flavor. Loved our time at Anthem! We were in Austin for a long weekend and stopped by for an early lunch on Sunday. The restaurant is beautiful and had a great tropical fun vibe. The hostess sat us right away and our server was great. He was in training and was super personable and knowledgeable about the menu. My drink was the best drink I had in Austin. I'm normally not one for frozen drinks but it was fantastic. The EXSW margarita- you won't be disappointed I promise! We may have over-ordered- which tends to happen to us but everything we tried was spot on. The queso was delicious and definitely in my top 5. Cute ambiance, very good happy hour and right on the corner of rainy st. There is a parking lot across the street and a garage right behind the restaurant. I have no idea how much the parking lot is but it was $40 to park my car in the garage for 2 hours. There is street parking but it's very limited with all the construction going on. Now onto the food. Everything we are was amazing. Stand out dishes for me was the salmon poke. The seaweed chips were think enough to hold all of the toppings on it. The ceviche had a little spice to it but also delish. Too many chips and not enough ceviche tho. Also, it's been over a year and the menu is exactly the same. I feel like that's somewhat lazy. Shake it up a little! We decided to try several different options so we could share! We came in right at noon so we were by ourselves for a little bit. We didn't mind at all because our waitress, Voss, was super helpful. Nobody at our table was unhappy with their drinks and I think they pretty much tried them all. The only thing we were a little unhappy about was the super slow service!
