Blue Owl is one of my absolute favorite breweries in Austin! Parking in the neighborhood is easy, and they have nice patio seating and indoor seating as well. Came in from Dallas and was looking for a quick nighttime getaway. Wasn't having the greatest day but the bartender, Brandon, made my day, was incredibly friendly and a genuinely great guy walking me through the beers and making me feel so welcome. Had a beer tasting and sampled some of the sours. Great taste and smooth sours all around. I'm so impressed by this place! I'm not a huge sour fan by any means so I was a bit hesitant to try Blue Owl since sours are their specialty but oh my god their beers are delicious. They blew every sour I've ever tried out of the water. They have such a wide variety of flavours too so I'm convinced every beer lover would find something they like. The staff were super helpful with making suggestions too and also let you sample beers if you're unsure of what to get. A good quality sour shouldn't necessarily leave you puckering like you just licked a grapefruit. Blue Owl comes through with sour beer that is both creative and not sour for the sake of being sour, which is a good thing. They offer a good variety on tap and while most are predictably fruit based, they do switch it up with a couple odd balls like tea offerings and my personal favorite: the Lunch Box (PB&J sour). The most well done sour beer in Austin. Tigers Blood remains our favorite throughout the years here, but they always have great other seasonal releases as well. Staff is usually quite helpful and great at explaining the brews to. Ale sure you like your pick. More recently they have started to offer more variety of beers rather than just sours, but they really do sours best. Clean, cute bathrooms and lots of merch for sale. Not a ton of seating inside, but a nice sized patio for the area outside and most of it sis covered and has fans. Relaxed atmosphere, with games for you to use and they have some cozy seating and high tops inside, with a large window viewing the brewing facilities. Parking is a bit confusing for this pale, but there is a shared lot that will validate with code from the local business with the Holly Commons. There is some shaded parking from large trees in joining lots. Lots of painted murals and a very short walk to the front of Blue Owl. read more

Blue Owl will not be everyone's mugs of beer. If you enjoy drinking some one off beers then this is the place for you. They do sour beers like no other for insistence, a stout sour. Yes, a sout that tastes like a stout but has a sour twist on the finish. Mind blown! Of course these beers of this style are a one off beer. First thing to know is that Blue Owl is a sour beer focused brewery, but they do have a decent number of non-sour options these days. If you don't like sour and are going to a brewery so you can try a bunch of different beers- this isn't the place for you. But if you have friends who like sour beers and you aren't a huge fan (me) this place is a perfect in between! I even found a couple sours that I liked in small portions. One star off for having virtually no food options; when I'm hanging out at a bar/brewery it is essential to have at least some good snacks available. The night we went they had frozen mini corn dogs that they heated up in a toaster oven, and hummus with pita chips that was the very end of the bag so they were all broken pieces and a tad stale. That just doesn't cut it for me! Other than that the service was good, the bartender was happy to let us have tastes of beers before we ordered. It's a pretty small place so I imagine it could get pretty packed when busier. Overall I would go back if someone else really wanted to go but not on my own- but that's largely personal preference on the beer selection. read more

I thought I wrote a review for this spot years ago. Whoops! I love Blue Owl brewing. You can get tasting flight sort of deal where you get to keep your glasses. I think it's a great idea if you're into sour type of beers. They have a seasonal called Limetastico that I think about all time. They rotate out specials each season so you can stop in and see if they anything you haven't tried yet, and maybe find yourself a new favorite. The space is small, and parking is odd, but the staff is so nice and they stay on top of cleaning so hanging out here for a while is a pretty good time. Bring some friends, but not too many as most of the tables are for smaller parties. Oh park in the common parking lot and you'll be fine I know it's hard to find parking in that area. read more

We were almost too full and tired to come here, but I am so grateful that we did. The service was great - they even charged my phone for me! They have a tasting menu where you get four full pours and then you get to keep the glass for almost the same price as a 4 beer flight so you better believe we did it. We started with the Imperial stout with orange and chocolate and that was our favorite, so much so that we got a 4 pack of it to fly back home with us. The cranberry one was fine, but nothing special. Our final two pours included the Earl Gray tea one which tasted so much of Earl Gray, that I had to also get that one and cans to go. The final one was the pomegranate sour, which my boyfriend enjoyed thoroughly. Unfortunately, there was a bike bar crawl, so the place was packed when we got there, but we were eventually able to find a place to sit outside, and their adorable decorated patio. Last week was my first time visiting Blue Owl Brewing and I had an absolute blast. Although I was a tad confused trying to find parking here, there is actually a community parking lot they provide validation for after you support select local businesses within Holly Commons. They provide complimentary parking through the parking platform after you make a monetary purchase and the business provides a parking validation code. The parking lot to search for is Holly Commons (they have quite a few murals for ease of reference). Now on to the star itself -- Blue Owl Brewing! If you love sour beers or sour candies in general, then you'll feel like you died and gone to heaven. Blue Owl Brewing was the first of it's kind when they opened their doors as they were an all sours concept. A lot has changed actually since they first opened their doors from what I learned. Their early conception was all sours and you had to buy a glass that came with four pours. Now it's 2023 and you can purchase by the glass, they offer non-sour beers (still alcoholic), and pretty soon food! Plenty of seating inside and they have a covered outdoor patio deck. You can even grab a box of games to use while drinking and hanging out. My favorite beer was the double hazy IPA sour. So good. Don't be afraid to check out their full menu and ask for a tasting. This brewery specializing in sour beers really stands out amongst others for dedicating themselves to their craft. Each sour is distinct and not overpowering. While you can pick one of a couple of non sours, I'm not sure why you would. Don't expect to find a selection of stouts and ales, you're only going to find good sours. The Strawbatchy RhuBOB is wonderful, and the slushies are great during warmer months. The Professor Black is another stand out worth trying. Flights are available as are cans, and you'll get to pick between 8 oz and 12 oz pours from draft. The outer area is quaint enough to fit parties of 2-3, but don't expect to sit together anywhere with a group of six or more. The tables are all small and even tough to fit between. The outdoor seating it covered so don't worry about direct sun or rain. The service is good and really takes time to make you feel welcomed at the counter. They don't promote it, but there is a small quick bites menu. All in all Blue Owl serves a good time. read more

This place was a beautiful and interesting surprise to me. I was nearby eating some bbq and I saw the Blue Owl Brewery a short distance away. I'm a curious fellow and checked out their beer menu while I waited in line to order my bbq. The fact that they primarily a sour beer brewery with a sour stout tickled my fancy. I hadn't heard of or tasted a sour stout before. The beer I got was the Adjunct Professor Black sour stout. It's a sour imperial stout with chocolate and orange. I really enjoyed it. I'm not a sour beer fan for the most part and they may have changed my opinion on sour beers. If you enjoy sour beers or you have an open mind about trying new beers,you need to check this place out. Love the branding of this brewery- I could have bought all the swag! Enjoyed a couple beers here while on a Sunday Funday. They have a lot of beers, but they are mostly sours (not my fav type of beer, but the Hop Damn #10 mix tape IPA was super delicious and crisp and went down real smooth.) A little early for an event down the street we decided to grab a beer. This was a great space with a nice outdoor area as well as tables and a sofa to relax and enjoy a beer with friends. The service was friendly and helpful. The bartender was a very friendly person (with glitter eye shadow) that gave us the 411 on the brews. We sat at a table in the outdoor space and people watched. Absolutely love Blue Owl! Fantastic spot on the East Side. We've been here so many times over the years, and it's always so fun. Blue Owl used to only have the tasting option (aka you buy a cup, receive 4 free pours, and get to take the cup home), but on our most recent visit, we learned that they've expanded their options. You can still do the tasting option (and they have 3 different cup sizes to pick from), but now they also sell beer by the glass, can, and have flights as well. Every beer we tried was delicious, and the service is always so friendly and helpful. You can also buy cans to-go (6-packs or single cans), as well as merch (clothing, drinkware, stickers, baby/pet items, etc.). Blue Owl has indoor and outdoor covered patio seating, and we've never struggled to find a seat. They have a selection of games to play while you drink. There's also a large window inside that enables you to look into their brewing facility. All in all, Blue Owl is amazing place to spend a few hours, try some beers, and catch up with friends. The only downside is the fact that there's only street parking, so sometimes you need to loop a few times to find a spot. read more

Exploring east Cesar Chavez street is a fun time for my husband and I. My first visit to Blue Owl but I've had their sours before at other bars. I'm not a huge fan of sours but they have everyone covered with non-sour beers/hard ciders/frozen daiquiris. Due to TABC laws, they can't directly sell you alcohol so they circumvent this by selling you a glass which goes towards your flight/pint. You get to keep the glass. Every Thursday from 4-6pm is their happy hour where they offer 64 oz growler refills for $4.00. Unbeatable price for supreme sours/beers! Right across the street is a vegan restaurant Counter Culture, as well as many vegan food trailers close by walking distance.
