While on a road trip, I was forced to stop at a nearby hotel when my 5 month old and 2 year old just couldn't take being in the car any longer. I figured we'd go somewhere for lunch and this place just happened to be across the street. Convenient. I was surprised that I bought three meals for less than $20. Very reasonably priced. This is a nice diner that looks tiny from the outside, but is actually quite large when you go inside. It's right off the highway, across from the Holiday Inn Express. The prices are fairly low, large portions, decent ingredients, excellent service, all day breakfast, lots of things to be happy about. I tried the baby cow liver, and received a very hearty portion, and the side salad was almost a meal in itself. The entire meal cost me around $15, including tip, and I couldn't finish it. The Blue Ribbon Diner gets a gold star from this diner. They were a great find in rural northwest Ohio that gives great service with a smile. There is nothing fancy about this place other than a few of their customers that looked like they just came from church. The dining room was clean and so was the men's restroom. Service was outstanding. I was quickly greeted, seated, and had my order taken. My waitress topped off my water and coffee 3-4 times, checked up on me after brining me my food to see how it was and to see if I needed anything else, she made check fast and easy, and I was happy to leave a tip. I ordered the Hungry Man Skillet and it was outstanding. Hash browns, green peppers, onions, ham, bacon, sausage and it was awesome. Don't know when I will be back in the area, but I would happily stop here again and hopefully avoid the owner who sounds like a real piece of work from a couple of reviews. read more

The owner still charged everyone $5 that didn't have food because he said he is here to make money and nothing else. If he would have told people this upfront it would have been a little better but he sprung it on us at the end with an attitude. He wasn't even shy about it. Ordered a vegetarian omelette from their menu; listed peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. They decided to throw in sausage, which I can't eat. Their reasoning? "They didn't know what to put on it." Then they acted like us asking for a new one was extremely annoying for them. Really embarrassing and gross. Waitress didn't write down our order and initially I was impressed but when our food came out both my daughter and I got the wrong type of eggs and I hate dippy eggs. Sure not writing orders down is cute and all but take some pride in getting it right. They didn't seem fancy travelers and sat us at a table with a large hole in the middle and cracks in plastic so big they could knock a drink over. My dry toast turned into burnt toast but at least they made a good cup of coffee, God bless them for that. read more

Coming in from out of town, I worry a little bit that home town diners are popular for the friendly service or nostalgia and not necessarily the food. I was pleased that this Hometown diner had good service and good food. We had a sandwich and biscuits and gravy. While the biscuits and gravy are not like what I've had in the South(I know, I really shouldn't compare them to what I've eaten in Arkansas, Louisiana, Georgia and Mississippi) they were better than what I've had in the area. The sandwich was good as well. I was a touch disappointed in the pie, But I understand they bring them in from a local Bakery. The breakfast menu items looked fantastic, and we were planning on going back for breakfast but we had enough leftovers from the night before that we didn't need to go back for breakfast. My co worker didn't know what to expect when we decided to stop and have dinner. Boy were we in for a treat. Very homey inside, clean and spacious. Excellent food, more potions than I expected for the price. Comfortable, people here are very nice and friendly. I can't remember our server's name but she did a fantastic job taking care of us. My brother and I had just driven for over eight hours in the freezing rain and we were both famished and exhausted. Fortunately the Blue Ribbon Diner was located right next door to our hotel. We walked in at 15 minutes to closing and were seated and greeted by our friendly blonde server, who I'm sure wasn't thrilled to have last minute patrons on a Friday night but managed to be more polite and attentive than I could've mustered had I been in her shoes. We both ordered the 8 oz ribeye special which was preceded by a warming cup of the soup du jour, (clam chowder), and accompanied by a picture perfect scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy and a side of sweet corn. From other reviews I have read about the owner of this establishment keying a car in the parking lot because he was angry. There should be a police report on this as the police were called. Standards seem to be slipping a bit. Last visit salad wasn't washed. Current visit out of several of the specials on the menu. 1.) Why not erase the specials off the board you are out of. 2) Its supper time, you had all day to find alternative specials or even go to the grocery store and buy what you were out of to get through evening service. I must also comment that the salt and pepper shakers feel like a two year old was mauling them after running there hands through a greasy plate of food. This is honestly a happy accident. My friends and I drove from Massachusetts to Wisconsin on I 84 and happened to see the billboard for this diner. We are all hungry and willing to eat anything at this point. So we pulled off on exit 36. To be honest I was a little skeptical considering the fact that at 6/7 o'clock in the morning the place was dead it except for one patron. Little did we know we found a treasure here in ohio. It's great food for an even better price. Honestly we are all dead stunned at the price of theirs delicious skillets. Which were greatly sized and not stingy at all. The quality was superb I personally had the (Irishman or something like that) end it was absolutely delicious personally I could eat the stack of pancakes that came with it so I just had toast. But all that for around seven or eight bucks (do not quote me!) i wish i was honestly closer because I would continue to eat there. But if you ever find yourself in the Midwest like I did on I 84 weather on the long road trip or just heading home it's definitely worth a stop by even just for a good cup of coffee. read more

Waitress didn't seem to care about being there or us. The food was very good. My ham and cheese omelette had 2 medium sized egg shells in it so that was gross. Everything else was good and the good is cheap. Overall I got ethos place a 2 star because it's not really a place I would go to after church or anything like that. Great little diner. Quick service. Easy on and off the turnpike. Good options for little kids. The kids had pancakes, grilled cheese, and French toast. They mostly finished their plates. I was there this afternoon for brunch. The waitress was rude, I was given a dirty tea cup and when she returned with a clean one she didn't bring lemon or honey like asked her for the first time. I asked for the manager she stated she was not there. We could hear her talk to the other lady working there about us. When the other lady came around the counter she said what lady the waitress stated the one with the glasses. So it's okay to talk about your customers and be treated wrong because there things were NOT clean. I have never had this happen before and it wont again. I will never return. read more
