On the way back to Ohio we stopped here for a late lunch. Reasonable prices made this stop worthwhile. My brother had a half pound hand made burger with all the fixes. He said it was "pretty darn tasty!" I loved my hand dipped battered mushrooms! Best I have ever had. The beef chili was a bit saucy but quite yummy. My husband beef & noodles had almost no beef in it but he said he didn't mind because it was so flavorful. It came with 2 sides & garlic toast. 1st time here, my wife and I both order Omelette's and I ordered a side of home fries. The service was good! When out food came out I thought the home fries didn't look right, as it turned out they weren't home fries at all but French fries that were extremely greasy and half cooked (if that) at best. I sent them back, no problem with that. The rest of our food was good. If your going to serve half cooked French fries as home fries you should tell us. read more

We have been going to this restaurant pretty regularly for around 5 years and we used to really like the place. I have changed my mind. Three out of six of the waitstaff there have no customer service skills and act toward you like they hate life because the place has customers. The other three ladies and guy are consistently personable and great, they are an asset to this restaurant (Not you, blondie). The food used to be absolutely great, now days you're likely to be disappointed and it keeps getting worse. The place has gone to hell overall. read more

My family was on the road trip, driving from Boston to Chicago. On the way we stopped by this restaurant and earned an amazing homey experience. We felt like we were invited to old granny's kitchen. Everyone there was super friendly. I believe the complimentary bread was really good. (It's been a while so I am trying to recollect my memory) We had a meat loaf, meat ball spaghetti, and a chicken salad.. all of them were really really good. I really wish I can go back. Went here with my s/o when we first moved to the area. Decided to try t-bone dinner for each of us. Unfortunately the cook was an amateur and didn't trim or season the steak at all. The veggies we each had on the side were undercooked and the cut of meat was so poor over 50% of the steak was inedible. However the manager was very understanding and gave us a deep discount. The food is delicious American diner food. Everyone in our party loved their food except for me, but I ended up trying everyone else's and I still really liked the place. I highly recommend the meatloaf, fish sandwich and fried green beans. Skip the taco salad, the meat is not seasoned properly and it just tastes meh. The service was extremely friendly, and they were quite accomodating. When we asked if they had butterscotch pie, they said no but offered to make it the next time we came if we called the day before. As an added bonus the changing area was roomy, so I could comfortably change my daughter. I plan on stopping by again when I'm going through on 80. It's way better than eating at a toll plaza. read more

We stopped here on a road trip to Chicago because of the great Yelp reviews! This is the first time I've ever felt like I've been targeted because of being a tourist. We had two small south western chicken salads, which "small" wasn't even an option on the menu, yet we were charged the $12 something price, listed on the menu for the larges. A $25 bill at this place was absurd for tiny salads. Clearly we were targeted for being non-local and we didn't want to make a fuss about it. Sad. read more

Last Saturday, Me and a friend went to Spokes. I had the french dip, and she had a patty melt with extra caramelized onions. For sides she got fries and coleslaw, I got a sampler of fried goodies (onion rings, mushrooms, and cheese sticks). Her burger came loaded with the onions (as requested). As I understand it, the burger was on point, The coleslaw was tasty and creamy. And the fries were perfect, crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside, (I got to have a few). My sandwich was delicious, Made with slow roasted Beef and covered in Swiss cheese on a kaiser roll (the only point for improvement is I wish the had cross sliced the beef, as it was presented shredded on the bun. it would have helped the sandwich hold together better). The jus was perfect. So often it's like dipping your sandwich in salt water, this was NOT that. Rich, beefy and just the right salty. The cheese sticks were hot enough to do that stretchy thing that we all love our cheese sticks to do, without oozing out of the breading and hitting the roof of your mouth like its molten. Now I have to talk about the mushrooms and onion rings, Lightly battered, crispy and delicious, not greasy just tasty! And that was just the food! There's a national chain out there with a slogan about family (those people are full of crap!). As my waitress bantered and catered to my wants. It very literally reminded me of "family". We are here on way to work one morning and I ordered the mushrooms and cheese omelet and it was canned mushroom so those were spongy and the cheese was like weird and kinda like not real cheese . We won't eat there again. Sad because how can you mess up breakfast? read more

4 and I would even say 4.5 stars for the food, 3 stars for the service, which was only average. There were 4 of us in our group. We all ordered different items and all were good. The chicken, cranberry, wrap was really good, and even noted as "the best ever." The pork chops were good, cooked, and seasoned well, the Hamburger appeared to be hand pressed, and very good. The fries were crispy and tasted good, and the Speghetti was good, with lots of meat sauce. Afterwards we had peanut butter pie, and blueberry pie, which were very good. We all left full, and satisfied. It's very hot out, and our ice kept melting, so we kept asking for ice. The AC was either inadequate for the place, or it was down so low we were sweating while eating. The waitress was ok, bit could have smiled a little more, and acted like she was glad to have customers. She wasn't bad, just not a bubbly, friendly sort. She did get the job done... I would recommend this place because ultimately eating is about food, but don't expect a great atmosphere or exceptional service. read more

Stopped on a Friday night, we just happened to traveling by. Atmosphere might night not be their strong point, the friendly staff and good service make up for it. Both of us had the all you can eat seafood, they gave you a choice of shrimp, fish or fried clams. All where good, I tried all 3 and my girl friend only the fish. Service was fast and I ate all I needed and maybe some more. Would highly recommend this place. read more

Stopped in for breakfast on an early Sunday morning as a party of six. We were seated immediately in a booth towards the back. The parking lot is large enough for semi trucks and plenty of space for POV's. The building is old and upon entering, the overall decor is just severely outdated. (Time warp back to the early 70's...yeah, it's THAT bad) Our server was quick to take our order and some modifications were able to be made by my guests. I ordered the omelet, which came with salsa. The salsa was horribly bland and runny (likely from a jar) while the omelet itself was very thin, almost crepe like, as opposed to being thick and fluffy. I tried a bite of the biscuits and gravy and that tasted good, although the gravy was pretty bland. Basic salt and pepper would make a world of a difference. I've dined here some twenty plus years ago and not much has changed since then, except for the faces. I am giving this the extra star simply because the place was open at 6am. read more

My hubby and I got the friday night fish fry once and our dinners smelled fishy and were very over cooked. Sorry but ive lived in the area most of my life and this place is nothing special. Maybe its a nice local hang out spot but the food is horrible. I ordered an omelette and it was paper thin. The onion and pepper that was in it wasn't fully sautéed. Just no effort or quality put into the food. I wouldn't recommend this place for their food.. $8 for edible egg flavored paper is not my ideal of terrific food. read more

I have lived in this area my entire life, but never tried Spokes til last Thursday,and I will never eat there again. We had a party of 6, waitress was right there to take our drink orders and hand us menus. We order Appetizers to start with, they were pretty basic, nothing good nothing bad. Then we got our main entire, my daughter ordered the beef Manhattan, the potatoes were horrible, thick and no flavor, the gravy was disgusting and very bland. My son ordered nachos, nothing spectacular tasted like nachos. My other 2 children had the cheeseburgers, pretty basic not good not bad. Now, my husband and I ordered the ribeye steak dinner, it came with a vegetable potatoes and salad. The salad was literally lettuce and dressing, the potatoes were just like my daughters gross, the steak was the grossest slab of neat I have ever had the displeasure of putting in my mouth. When it came out it was gray! There was no sear of. It at all, we both order medium rare, inside was also gray. No seasoning at all. And it was slimy. We complained to the waitress, and that's when she told us how they cooked the steak. She says, I put it on the cold side of the grill, squint some water on it and put a lid over it!!!! Yes, we ate a steamed steak. It was horrible. They offered no refund even though 3 plates were left untouched. I will never eat at this place again.
