What a super fun place! We came down for the Grand Opening and much anticipated Greek Town area. We had a fantastic time! This place was super cool. You enter and go up a flight of stairs. There is a huge bar and these cool booths as well. There are giant garage door windows that were open so you can sit along a bar rail at the windows and over look the beautiful new area! In the back there is an open air area and another bar. They have a canopy to cover the area for foul weather. They had some fun cocktail and the service was great! You have to come check this newly renovated area out! read more

Front of house was fantastic. We looked at the upstairs which has more of a dive-bar atmosphere and promptly headed downstairs to for the pub vibe/atmosphere. We ordered the gyro bowl and the pastitsio. The gyro bowl was very good but the pastitsio was a little sweet and thin-tasting. 3.5 for food and 4.5 for service and atmosphere. I decided to give this place another try and had a better experience. Still have to say that the food is overly salty though. I had a Greek salad and added gyro meat to the top. Generous portion of gyro. The salad was huge. Feta cheese tasted odd. Very salty and had an old/not fresh taste to it. My friend had the Greek combo plate which had gyro meat, a chicken kebab, grilled pita, and a side. We sat up at the bar and had great service. They had a cocktail menu with their seasonal specials. My friend had the apple crisp made with Crown Apple. At $14 it seemed a little steep. I stuck with Jack Daniels and Diet Coke and at $9 that still seemed a little high and enough not to merit a second drink. The Greek has a lot going for it. It has a good vibe with friendly staff. If they can work on the menu a little more and dial back the salt content on the food this place would be on my list of Greektown choices. I don't know if I will give this place a third try with so many other options all within walking distance. read more

My wife is not big on trying new foods, but I dig her to Greektown and The Greek looked inviting. Greek music playing, the main windows rolled up to enjoy the evening. Our waitress recommended a good wine and a good beer for us, both Greek of course. She ordered the chicken kabobs with Greek potatoes, and I had the Greek platter with chicken kabob and lamb with rice and peas. Both plates were huge! And the taste, it was perfect! Ok I came here again, though I said I wouldn't. My co-workers wanted to come back here from last year so we did. Completely different experience. Server was attentive for most of the meal. I also liked my meal this time. I got the lemon chicken soup and a Greek salad. Very large portions and very good. I went with 4 others who also got a variety of dishes. They all enjoyed as well. Lots of food. They also had some ciders. This time I'd rate the food and service much better. The road is completely torn up in front of the whole street. I guess they are making a giant patio. That will be cool. But now it's probably killing everyone's business now. The sidewalks are still available but it's a skinny walkway. It doesn't appear at the moment that they are close to completing. Maybe this time next year it'll be done. read more

We were in town for the Detroit marathon and wanted to grab some food the night before! We stumbled upon the Greek and decided to give it a try. I ordered the gyro bowl with lamb and my brother ordered gyro plate. The bowl was huge (definitely had leftovers, not complaining though) and super filling! Last night we were looking for a restaurant that was top notch and still open at 10:30pm. The Greek did NOT disappoint! The food was beyond phenomenal. The service was on point. Shout out to our amazing waitress Christina that was helpful and knowledgeable when it came to picking our drinks and entrees. We got the lamb chops, lamb shank, and a pasta. All the food came out quickly and tasty! The saganaki was a must get appetizer! The drinks were NOT watered down and had great flavor. (We got the berry cocktail and I forget the other one's name). The ambiance has dim lighting comfortable spaced out seating. There IS construction that makes parking very difficult at the moment. However, it is worth the short walk to get there! read more

This is a casual place with a bar. They have outside seating as well. The service was good, food delicious and the atmosphere was lively. Order the spicy feta, great start to your meal. We ordered the lemon chicken and the gyro plate. The food was served hot and there was plenty to eat. Overall a good experience. The one curious thing was we were a party of two and the check came with a 20% gratuity already included. We eat out very frequently, this is usually something a restaurant does for a large group. Not sure what the thinking is behind this. Most people like to leave what they consider to be a fair tip. Don't choose for them. read more

Came here with some co workers. It's a nice restaurant with great employees. We weren't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised! The food portions were huge and the flavors were phenomenal. I recommend the Greek quesadilla! Great price for what you get on the plate. The People mover in Detroit is free for all of 2024! Late review from November. Thanksgiving actually. I got a basic chicken shawarma. I was in Greektown. I had high expectations for this shawarma to be great & it just wasn't great. No complaints to the service. & no complaints to the vibe in the restaurant itself. But this was not great. I can do better at home. The spots in Dearborn are better. read more

Let me start with the good, my husband's lamb gyro was fantastic, he said. There was no one there, so service was good. Being in Greek town is always great atmosphere, we were there for a concert and a quick meal. We ordered the saganaki as an app and it was burnt to the pan, good flavor for the parts that weren't burnt, but was a bit odd. My meal was the spanakopita, and it was burnt, yet greasy, and the inside although tasted just okay, was obviously an older pie. Such a very big disappointment. Did the job we got a little food before heading to the concert. Will not ever be back, too many other good choices. read more

I went in for an early lunch before seeing a show at Ford Field. Service was fast, and nice enough. But the food was disgusting. The chicken was drier than the Sahara, and could barely be salvaged with the tzitki sauce. Everything else on the plate was salty beyond belief. Lunched here last week prior to a Tiger game. Excellent service provided. Totally enjoyed the small Greek salad but did not enjoy the chicken caesar wrap. I am not a fan of spinach wraps and perhaps I missed that in the product description and if so then shame on me. However I got past the wrap and found that the chicken was dry and there was just not enough dressing to help slide that thing down. I have heard of this place but had never been there since I live 1000 miles away. Went with several colleagues, and we all loved it. We had a four dip appetizer with PITA bread. Delicious! I had the Greek lasagna, my boss had a shrimp salad, and my other colleague had a steak plate. I was not starving when we went, so I didn't get to try near enough. We wanted to have Greek food while in Detroit. I was skeptical coming into this place, it had the feeling of an upscale dive bar. However, the food was very good. I had a Greek salad and spanakopita. Largest spanakopita I've seen in my life! It was crusty and delicious. I ate the leftovers cold later that night and was still amazing. On a very busy Saturday night my son and I ended up here for dinner prior to a Lions game. They were not accepting reservations due the night game crowd but we waited in line for about 25-30 minutes. One of the owners would update us as we waited as the line moved steadily. (Much appreciated) Our server (Lauren) was pleasant and efficient as we ordered our starter,Saganaki. The menu included many Greek food options that you'd expect. We settled on the Moussaka and the Gyro Platter dinner. The Moussaka was very good and I could have eaten another helping. We visited this weekend. While we were seated quickly by the manager on a Saturday night, our waitress charged us for three unrequested sides of pita, fries, and extra onions that we had never asked for but were placed at our table as if they came with the entrees we ordered. She never told us she would be adding the extra portions and we had never thought to question the extra portions and just assumed they were the normal portions... we didn't even eat the extra but had to pay ~$20 extra for this. Beware if you are visiting especially if you are in a larger group. Check your bill to make sure that you werent charged for food you never asked for. 1 star for the bad practice. To The Greek staff, do not add on sides to your tables without their knowledge or approval to do so. read more

We went here as a group of 3. I got the saganaki, fatoush salad, and grape leaves. I really enjoyed my fatoush salad, the dressing was delicious. The saganaki was also really delicious. My friends ordered the garlic dip, grape leaves, and the Greek salad. I wouldn't recommend the grape leaves, they were super soggy. The garlic dip did not taste like garlic. I thought it might be mashed potatoes... We asked if there was anything else it could be, and our server said maybe we got the eggplant dip on accident. He came back with another garlic. Once again tasted nothing like garlic. Just blended yogurt and lemon. She didn't touch it after the first taste, apologized, and sent it back again, saying she didn't like it and couldn't eat it. When the bill came, the dip was on my friend's bill. She said to the server that she didn't eat it and was confused. He said "well they made it for you and couldn't serve it to anyone else"...(obviously..?) she said she got the wrong dip at first, and he replied "it actually was the right dip, you just didn't like it. Its whipped garlic, I LITERALLY don't know how to make it more garlic for you" as a server of over 10 years, when someone doesn't touch their plate at all, and sends it back twice, you offer to remove it from the bill and/or give a discount. She was already nervous to send it back as it's not something she does, but really didn't want to pay for something that she couldn't eat. And was nothing as described. The server DID end up removing it from the bill, but we could see him visibly annoyed and talking about it with other servers at the host stand. I really really really hate leaving bad reviews, especially when some of the food was good. But it needed to be said. I understand food was made twice, but this is what comes with the biz. If this was a matter of the manager being difficult, just explain that. Also, keep in mind your host stand is easily visible to all your tables. read more

I seem to have always passed this place by in the past, generally going to another restaurant in Greektown. This time, before a concert at Comerica Park, we decided to give The Greek a try. The Greek has your typical Greektown restaurant menu, with various classic Greek options. I had the chicken gyro plate and it was pretty darn good. I wouldn't consider it to be quite on par with some of of the other establishments along Monroe street, but this is a solid option. The restaurant seemed well run and service was friendly and attentive. The Greek seems to be on track for continued success as it is one of the many Greektown restaurants that has reimagined itself over the last five or so years. read more

This place is fantastic. We traveled from Seattle to Detroit for my husband's nephews wedding and my husband wanted to get UMPA! We parked our car ($5.00) wow what a great rate! The street outside is alive with people walking and cruising ! Loud music, the restaurant window pulled up we become part of the fabric that makes Greektown dynamic! The good is tremendous! UMPA started our meal, followed by lamb gyros, one cheeseburger plate and for me, capers, lemon and garlic chicken. We chose Greek beers to accompany the food! Fix Hellas and Mythos! Both are smooth and satisfy the thirst found in the hot humid 90 degree days. I highly recommend this place. The food, the service and the atmosphere are wonderful!!!! Met up with a colleague for lunch at The Greek in "Greektown" ... the restaurant had a classic bar feel & staff was welcoming. The calamari came with a creamy sauce - I asked for some extra marinara - it was a great starter. I checked yelp for recommended dishes & there were some mixed reviews - I decided to go with the Greek salad... a salad after their namesake - I figured I couldn't go wrong. I ordered it with gyro meat but asked them to grill it some to crisp it up (makes a huge difference). The salad had all kinds of yummy ingredients: feta, banana peppers, olives - it was a winner. My colleague ordered a steak (NY strip I think) - I got to taste a bite - not bad at all. Didn't order any desserts but I would definitely return if I were in the area again. Absolutely love the food!! Came here on a Friday evening around 7p and was shocked that it was nearly empty. The space looked like a bar with high-top seating but we sat in one of the booth spots and it was surprisingly comfortable for a dinner. We ordered the Dip Platter which was phenomenal - the whipped garlic was my surprise favorite. However, our dinner portions were so big we really didn't need it. We all ordered the Gyro plate with either the roasted potatoes or the rice & peas. The rice & peas were surprisingly good but you can not skip the roasted potatoes, they are life-changing.
