Ahh, Blue Top used to be my go-to cab. I could rely on the drivers to be proficient in English, not shady and best of all, they accepted plastic without complaint. Not anymore. Cab #120 is piloted by a driver who says his credit card machine doesn't work. At least, that's what I could make out since his command of the English language left a lot to be desired. I just had a truly obnoxious Blue Top Cab driver. - He refused to take my Visa debit card, claiming that debit cards aren't accepted. I'm sorry, but the last time I checked, a debit card backed by a major credit card company is a perfectly form of payment, and Blue Top's website makes no mention of not allowing debit cards. - He got on his cell phone as soon as I got in the car, and when I was forced to interrupt his conversation to ask for air conditioning he rolled down the window instead. Finally he turned on the AC, but barely. - When I arrived at my destination and paid with a credit card that he deemed acceptable, he wanted my phone number, saying that he had to have it if I wanted to use my card. I pay with my credit card at stores all the time without being required to provide my phone number, why should a cab be any different? If that is in fact Blue Top's policy, and not just your typical cabbie who mistrusts credit cards, it is an incredibly stupid and invasive policy. After arguing with the driver he finally gave in and accepted my card without the phone number. In hindsight I probably just should've provided a fake one. I would strongly encourage everyone to avoid this cab company unless you're paying cash, and don't mind a smelly and hot ride with an unsafe driver. read more

I use Arlington Taxis every week for airport runs. I've tried to use Blue Top exclusively in an attempt to build some loyalty. Although the airport run is never less than 12 and never more than 15, I always pay 20 in cash to compensate the drivers. On a positive note, most of the drivers have been decent, clean and responsive. My issue is with their dispatch system. Their dispatchers are rude and unprofessional. For the past 10 weeks I ordered a cab for 5am. 8 out of 10 did not show until 510 or later. When I inquire I'm told that I'm "lucky" because it's busy and other 5am appointments are being ignored. Beware of cab driver 142!!!! I've been cabing it and metro it in DC for over 18 years and I've never EVER felt demeaned or threatened! I asked him if he took credit cards and he pointed to the swiperand the fare and said "what go $5.35! That's ridiculous!" I can write you a receipt!!! I said "Sir no matter the amount as simple to you, accuracy is important to the client, but I'll take a receipt. We get to hotel and my husband tells him he didn't appreciate the way he treated his wife. Cab driver got out of the car and in my husbands face (who almost walked away from cab without suitcase!!). This is not true for every blue top cab driver but mine was rude when he had to take me 5 minute drive to the airport and he complained that my 2 dollar tip wasn't enough and next time I shouldn't take a taxi. He is right I won't take one even if I have to wait an extra 10 minutes for an Uber. But let's think about his point of view and why the taxi industry is not doing well. For a 5 minute ride I paid him $7 with tip. If he thought about it before complaining that's really roughly $84/hr, which is pretty good right? So why did he complain and told me never to take a taxi? Whatever the excuse it still doesn't justify the lack of customer service. Asked the cab driver (prius cab 124) i he could drop us of at two locations - we didn't request a fare split nor was the first location or of the way. He blatantly refused and we went into another cab who agreed - it was THE SAME COMPANY. Blue top needs to keep their policies accurate (I even posted a photo of Arlington taxicab policy states passengers to different locations is possible). Using uber from now on (we usually use uber anyway but this was at the airport and all ubers were taken during the time). I would give 0 stars if possible. read more

Hands down the best cab company in Arlington. So much better than that other color cab! The guy answering the phone is direct and to the point. I appreciate that I can call, get to the point and get a cab in 15 minutes I'm rarely on hold for more than 2 minutes, even on a busy night. I can see how some people think he could be rude, but when you get in the cab, you realizing that in addition to answering the calls, he's dispatching the cabs...It's the DC area, I'm just happy someone picks up the phone (ehmm DC cabs) and in a timely manner and doesn't keep me on hold for 25 minutes only to never send a cab (ehrm other color arlington cab - happened twice). Anyway, I love them and the cab drivers are always so kind and pleasant. I especially like the hybrid cabs - they are clean and comfortable. I've been using them for about 7 years and have never been disappointed. We recently took a trip to NYC and during one horriffic cab ride there, we looked into each others' eyes and were like "we miss Blue Top." read more

Prime example of the remains of an unchecked monopoly. I have had nothing but awful experiences. I was walking home with groceries and it started pouring unexpectedly, my bag dropped and ripped open and I needed to take a cab home the last 10 minutes of the walk. Well blue top refused saying it was "too close" and it wasn't worth it for him. I was shocked at the lack of humanity for a paying customer. The second time a different cab driver said he would take me 19 minutes away to Springfield, VA. After 5 minutes of driving he changed his mind and said he could not and took me back to my starting point. I was so late and a Red Top cab saved my day and had no problems driving me that far. If I see a blue top cab in a taxi line, I will pass it. I refuse to give my money to this organization. Red Top is my go-to and my friends use Uber. Had a great ride from the airport late Friday night and left my headphones in the cab. The cab driver returned my headphones to me next day at no charge. This type of customer service is to be commended and should be the mode for other cab companies in the area read more

**UPDATE** Although, I didn't have a great experience with the drivers of this company, management has proven that they really do care about what is happening on the streets. I received a prompt return phone call from one of the owners, and after a week of us playing phone tag, he still didn't let it fall off the radar or leave it up to me to call him back. I definitely appreciate the great customer service. Today, I stopped at Pentagon City where numerous cabs post outside waiting for fares. I was denied a ride by 3 separate drivers of this company because I wasn't going far enough. I called an Uber... Taxi drivers complain about losing their business to companies like Uber, but moving forward, I won't even waste my time trying...I'll just pop up that little app on my phone and keep it moving. Regardless of distance traveled, I have never been spoken to in a disrespectful manner or turned away from a ride by an Uber driver. This is a piss poor way to do business. My Uber driver had some advice for those experiencing this in the future. Tell them you're headed to Dulles Airport, but you have to stop off at home first...then cancel once you get there and pay for the cab so far. The cab driver STOLE my phone. He asked me if I wanted to charge my phone, and then took it into the front and kept it and likely pawned it. I thought my male friend got it from him while they were settling the bill, which took a minute because the driver "had taken us for a ride" by going the wrong way and the long way despite our protests, and then flustered us by asking for a tip right before driving off without giving my phone back. The cab company has made me wait almost a week without any help or recompense even though the cab driver admits to taking the phone, but after evading calls from the cab company has added the feeble excuse that, "he ran down the street to return it." I wanted a Red Top cab. I know what to expect with them and they are prompt and hardly give me issues (unless you want to count the fact that the drivers leave the windows open and freeze you). But, Red Top was no where to be found at this time. So I hail any cab to get to a party in DC, knowing I planned to partake in a few dirty martinis and, if they were made right, there's no way I'd be driving home. In comes Blue Top. I tell the driver, "I'm going to Recess in DC. The address is . . ." He says he doesn't know where that is. I suggested he GPS it. So he does. He takes the most roundabout route ever (I know its only $10 to get most places from Crystal City -- this was $12something). We finally see it. He wants to let me out a block from the place. No sir! These 4 inch heels say that you're driving me to the door. So he grumbles and pulls up to the door as I've asked. Now this is what made me want to take off my stiletto and pierce his damn skull: We pull up and he's figuring out how much I owe him . . . like its not in front of us. I go to hand him my card. He says, "No, its better for me if I have cash." But mofo, I have a card, so it would be better for you to get paid than NOT get paid. See? So then he hems and haws and never turns off the meter. Add another 75 cents. I said, "Uhhh, you can't stop your meter." He says, "Oh, its not that much. Just 75 cents." Motherf . . .. Ok, so he takes my card and then asks, "So how much do you want to tip me? You know, I did drive you into DC." (all of 6 miles, really) I was like, "Ummm, I can write the tip in." He gives me some sob story BS about how his company charges a fee for charge cards and that its better for him to run the full amount plus tip as opposed to me writing it in. Whatever. So I tell him, "Hell, throw $3 on there." I sign the slip and I get out. Ummmm, does anyone else get the feeling he was trying to cheat the system by having me tip that way? Never again. This was just one of the many interesting conversations I've had with the various cab drivers I've chatted with over the years. I have six cab companies programmed into my phone but I always use Blue Top when I'm in their area. They know me; I know them. They are not so huge that they can't stay personable. The dispatchers are also cab drivers. The cab drivers are from India, Thailand, Morocco, etc. Some day I'll write a book about all the cab drivers' lives that I've collected in my audio-biography in my head. One thing I really like about cab drivers is that they are the epitome of the All-American story. Because, perhaps, of my face, cab drivers always ask me where I'm from. I've come to realize that this is my invitation to ask them about what country they left to come to America and make a better life for themselves and their families. I've heard stories of Laotian refugees walking for months through the jungle, hoping that eventually they would walk across the border to Thailand and freedom. And then, after the long walk with no food, and rescue from death by a Thai farmer, finding a wife in those woods, in the form of another refugee looking for a better life. And the joy of having produced daughters who were born American and have grown up so American that they can't decide what to become when they grow up. Success! I've listened to stories of cab drivers who started driving a cab out of boredom, and because he quit smoking, and needed something to do. I've talked to cab drivers who teach physics at university but find driving a cab more lucrative. One cab driver made the $35,000 he needed for his daughter's wedding banquet, in ONE month! Others tell me about meeting for lunch with the other Thai cab drivers at the same restaurant that gives cab drivers a special deal (yes, I've got to find out where that is). One night, I had the most exhilarating cab ride, heck, ride, of my life! I got in the blue top cab, expected to guide the driver to my little street, but no, he asked me for my address, and then said, "yes, I know where that is." And for the next five minutes, drove the surest, fastest, steady ride of my life! He hugged each corner like a professional race car driver, vehicle, tires, engine, man, all aligned into a bionic transporter. I'll admit it, my cheeks turned red, I fell slightly in lust with the driver, this commander of the vehicle. I've driven with many good drivers, and many bad ones, but no one has given me such a thrill as him. And when I told him how impressed I was, he said that he is a cab driver instructor and traces the most efficient routes plus instructs new drivers on how to serve the customers, and then he handed me his business card with his personal cell phone number, and told me to call me when I needed another ride. read more

Electric/Power Wheelchair - 0/5 stars They say on they're web site and the hotel we stayed at thought there were too but turns out they are NOT-Wheelchair accessible or Friendly... After spending hours waiting and after the hotel concierge called and was told a wheelchair accessible van was coming for us not once but 3 times to get us to a rehearsal dinner for a wedding...When we called were told they were not wheelchair accessible. We called back to tell them that the hotel concierge just spoke to you and said you were.. the dispatcher hung up on my husband. I called back and asked him to please not to hang up and explain to him what we were told and he said that they WERE-NOT wheelchair accessible ( he was hard to understand and very rude and caddy) and told us to try Red Top Cab....So we did.... it is the only thing I would like to thank Blue Top Cab for ...sending us to an reputable and a actual cab company. I called this company in an emergency when my car died when I was half way home from work. I was told a cab would come right away. After 45 minutes and no cab, I tried to call the dispatcher but just got a recording saying they had heavy call volume and could not answer. After an hour, I managed to track down the number of a neighbor who rescued me. No cab ever arrived and they never called back my cell to check on me. How can they even stay in business? read more

Yet another cab company whose drivers can't follow the rules of the road. Just tonight in Arlington, Cab #52 from this company parked waiting for a fare in front of the 7-11. The problem is the way the driver parked. Partially obstructing a travel lane, fully obstructing the Bike lane, and partially in a no-parking lane that is exclusively for Metro buses. I asked the driver to at least pull forward so that he's not obstructing any travel lanes. Put simply his attitude was completely unacceptable in any service related industry. read more

So as we prepared for our voyage to NY we opted to take a cab from our house to Union Station. You would think that would be easy. So we first send an electronic request to the cab company whose name includes the town we live in. At midnight they write back with "sorry, we're unable to take care of this requirement." So at 0600 I'm on Yelp, hunting around for more cab companies. Call another one, they ask where we're headed, and then proclaim that they can't drive us into the district because it wouldn't include the city that they have in the name of their cab company. What? So I find Mikkela's review of Blue Top around 0700. She's Elite, she's got great reviews, so despite the fact that Blue Top Cab doesn't include the city I live in, I call. Very pleasant on the phone, can he take us to Union Station, yes, of course. And you know what? The cab showed up EARLY, the driver was pleasant and knew the way around the assorted parades that were going on. It was an awesome old Crown Vic, former police cruiser. read more

I made a reservation for my cab to the airport and received Blue Top Cab's confirmation. 5 minutes after the departure time there was no sign of the cab. I called and the Dispatcher didn't accept responsibility--even though she immediately found my reservation in her system. The attitude of both the Dispatcher and the driver that finally turned up 20 minutes after the reservation time were unbelievable, blaming me for their failure to send a cab. My flight was delayed but I would have missed it otherwise. Unacceptable service. Hello all, Lets talk a little about the Cab industry. Things you need to know. -A company can only operate out of its respected county unless it is an account call or a regular customer that is heavily notated within the system. This is because if a driver is caught picking up(hacking) in a county in which is not his/her own they will receive up to a $1500 fine. -Blue Top's office is located in Falls Church Va and we operate in Arlington Va. So if you are calling from Falls church, McLean or Vienna or Washington D.C and we tell you we can not pick you up because we are not your local cab company that is true. We do not house cabs here at the office, drivers do not sit on a lot waiting for a call to go out. Drivers are hustling and bustling through out the streets of Arlington County and surrounding areas getting people to and from places. -Drivers are considered Independent Contractors, which means yes they do have to follow county rules when operating within the city but they can also take their own discretion as to whom they pick up and where they go. Some drivers will pick up whomever and take them wherever and others won't. It's the luck of the draw. -Airport Rides(from the airport) The airport has their own taxi stand. Their are 2 lanes at each taxi line, one for cash and the other for credit. You must tell the dispatch at the head of the line how you are paying in order to ensure a smooth transaction upon arrival to your destination. They also have a surcharge of $2.50 on top of the metered fare. When drivers are at the airport, all be it they are operating a vehicle that is logo-ed with company name they are operating on their own time and can choose to which areas they would like to operate in and what type of fares they want to take. -Pick up times In understanding that drivers do not sit outside of your door waiting on you to call, the wait time can vary. On a good day where all drivers are out and the weather is good, you may be able to get a cab in 5-15 minutes and on other days, during rush hour, late nights and/or early mornings it may take 15-20. The dispatchers try very hard to assign every trip as soon as they receive the call in order to get the quickest driver response time possible but unfortunately some times it does not work as well as we want it to. -Customer Service Yes I will be the first to say that some people in which you may encounter , whether it be on the phone or in the vehicles do not have the best approach to customer service but understand that they are human just like you. You never know what a person has going on in their lives or what hey have been through within 24hrs. So kindness will get you kindness and when not given the respect or common courtesy in which you demand don't lash out or allow that persons mood to change you, just continue to smile and be pleasant and you never know, you may have changed their day around by not lashing out at them. Blue Top has and will continue to be a great option for all your transportation needs. So please when searching for reliable and dependable service, remember this tidbit of information and make a good and wise decision to call Blue Top. Was given a Blue Top Cab when departing from DCA. When I stated I was just going to a hotel in Crystal City, the driver told me (told me!) to take a shuttle, and when I told him I was still wanting the cab, he complained the whole 5 minutes to the hotel. Didn't even help me with my bags - made rude comments and gestures the whole, short trip. You're right Blue Top, I won't use you next time, I'll use Uber. The driver called me when he was outside and literaly screamed at me because he said he was waiting for more than five minutes. When I went outside he was not there! On a very short run to a place up the street (in Arlington) from the Key Bridge, we were informed after we got in the car that they are now charging a $10 minimum. No matter how far you go. The fare calculator said it was about $6 with the added people charges. I have found nothing to back up this claim on their site... and refuse to use their service since then. Absolutely unacceptably horrible. Cab#111 license plate # H118221 - is driven by a rude, lying and unprofessional man. He yelled at me when I asked him to get closer to pick up an elderly customer. He said he couldn't go down a one-way street however he was driving in the correct position to do so. He lied and told his dispatcher, who was excellent and helpful, that a truck prevented him from turning down the street. After 20 minutes, the driver said he just got the dispatch and would take another 8 minutes to get there. Do not use this company. First off, my cabbie asked me to use cash because the fare was too short to take a credit card (his words). This ended up being a fatal mistake for me, because I did not get a receipt. As soon as I exited the cab, literally, 30 seconds after, I realized I left my wallet in the car. I immediately called the cab company, described the situation, let them know my pick up and my drop off location (less than a mile). The dispatch seemed reluctant to help me because I did not have the cab number, which I neglected to get and did not have a receipt, so no reference. The dispatch said they put a call out over the radio but "nobody" responded. I called back a few times within the next thirty minutes, again, all they could say is we "called" but nobody responded and maybe the cabbie went home for the night. Home for the night? One minute after I got out of his cab? Okay maybe, but that seems like a remote chance. Was told to call the next morning. Called the next morning. Dispatch, without talking to me, dumped me right into a lost and found number, that is never picked up by a human being, just a voice mail. Lost all my credit cards, my license, and a gift card that can only be used in a very small business many states away. I had no cash in my wallet, and I had tipped the driver 30 percent. Guess that's not enough money for people to be honest these days. You are better off walking. read more

So, I call for a cab, as the address states FALLS CHURCH, and we live just on the edge of FALLS CHURCH. I waited around 5 minutes to be answered. I give them my address. He says they don't pick up outside of ARLINGTON COUNTY. I said huh - he was rude and told me to go elsewhere. I had to request the number and he just spat it at me. He was SO RUDE!! I couldn't believe it. I appreciate you are busy, but common courtesy is FREE! Sort it out people. If you are based in FALLS CHURCH, you should pick up in FALLS CHURCH!!
