Definitely more low-key than some of the other bigger operations but so perfect for our family. There were goats, they were pumpkins, and there was a little mini pumpkin maze, which was just there . The vibe was exactly what we needed. We went on a rainy day, but managed to find a two hour window with a little bit of sunshine. Couldn't have been better! They've got all different types of pumpkins that you can either pick yourself or just choose off the shelves. There was also a craft fair with holiday crafts. Oh! And a really nice restroom!! Lots of parking too. My only suggestion might be to have a few places to sit down along the long path to the corn maze. I'm recovering from a back injury and that might've been a nice addition. It's early in the season and the pumpkins were fresh on the vine to cut (they provide shears) and all looked in perfect condition. They also have a large variety of carts, wagons and wheelbarrows to borrow and pull into the fields. Prices are vague and not clearly listed; it also didn't help that the staff was confused what to charge me for a white ghost pumpkin I picked from the field. The main barnyard area has a nice aesthetic with a photo op area and tractor kids can sit on. There's also a small goat area too, because you can't go wrong with animals. Other attractions included a corn maze that was a bit further, that we decided to skip. There are small children's areas within the barn including a mini tricycle track, corn pit, hay maze, but they honestly weren't memorable. Overall it's a smaller local pumpkin patch farm for a basic visit, but there's definitely potential to grow.

The worker said I could drive there but I already had my baby in the stroller out of the car ready to go so I decided to walk it- bad idea. We visited Bailey Family Farm on the very first day of strawberry picking for the year (Jun 1)…read moreright after lunch. They had their fields filled with their earliest variety, Sweet Sunrise, with tons and tons of gigantic berries ready for harvest. When I say tons, I mean it - each plant was flush with berries, and it barely took us 30 minutes to basically fill up our entire flat. They also had a limited number of Shuksan and Rainier strawberries, and some barely ripe Totems available for U Pick. We ended up picking an entire box with Sweet Sunrise and two smaller pints of Shuksan and Rainier. Sweet Sunrise - These are a deep crimson red both inside and out. They are large (averaging around 33g each), but large doesn't necessarily mean better. In this case, the taste is kind of diluted down by the amount of water inside. The most ripe and soft ones are sweet and fragrant, but the vast majority are somewhat diluted in flavor. Even the sourness is dilute. The berries are mostly soft and tender. These are still really great strawberries, but are more muted in flavor compared to some of the smaller varieties. Shuksan - This is the 2nd time I've eaten Shuksans and the 2nd time I've been a little disappointed. These are medium size berries, coming in at around 15.5g each. They are extremely sour, making me pucker with every bite. They are also quite a bit firmer than the other two strawberries, even the darker crimson ones. Quite possibly it's too early in the season for these. I'll have to come back later to try more. These have the most lumps and mutant individuals with tons of multiple fused berries. Rainier - This is probably my 2nd favorite variety of strawberry after Hoods (last year, I ate half a flat every week when these were available). It's really early in the season, so there weren't too many available for us to pick. The ones that we were able to locate fill the mouth with a delightful, strong and potent strawberry fragrance. Unfortunately most are quite a bit on the sour side - the ones in the coming weeks will probably be more sweet. Size is by far the smallest, coming in at around 12g per. The berries are really soft and teeth slice through them like warm butter. They are more acidic and are the only strawberry variety to cause me some stomach issues. We visited again the following Monday and the plants were noticeably skimpier. The leftover Sweet Sunrise were only a third the size of previous, and mostly not as ripe. There were more ripe Shuksans, Totems, Rainiers, and even some Tillamooks, Puget Crimsons, and Mary's Peaks ready. Just some quick notes for these: Tillamook - 24.4g avg, 6.2 brix, varying shape, awful variety, even the super red ones are ridiculously sour. Even beyond the sour, they taste awful. The juice is sour, bitter, nasty, the worst. Puget Crimson - 35.8g avg, 8.2 brix, caps really easily, didn't pick a single strawberry where the cap stayed on. Very conical in shape. Really dark red color. Stronger flavor than tillamook and more sweet, but still quite sour. Expected more flavor for being so dark red. Juice is dark in color, no particular distinguishing characteristics. Mary's Peak - 18.8g avg, 8.4 brix, leaves stay attached, some even have stems. Mostly conical in shape but some wider. Really noticeable seeds, can feel them protruding out of the skin. Very pronounced sweeter but mild flavor, some grassy notes. Juice has some candy element like pixie sticks but more sour. Really love the juice. Sweet Sunrise - 17.2g avg, 7.3 brix, half the size of the ones picked the previous week and not nearly as good. Not as ripe I guess so they don't cap nearly as easily. Deep red color, but more sour than sweet. Shuksan - 17.6g avg, 8 brix, Lumpy strawberries, lots of them fused together into big half moon shapes. Great flavor complexity, nasal, strong strawberry flavor, a little perfumey. More stem quality in the flavor, vegetal not bitter, probably because the pith/stem area stays attached more. Juice normal and bright. I liked these way more than the previous week. Rainier - 12.2g avg, 9.5 brix, most of the ripe ones have holes in them from birds and slugs. Aromatic, sweet but sour. Super perfumey elements. Best in flavor. Juice astringent surprisingly not as sweet as the brix would imply, more acidic instead. I like eating the whole berry more than juiced. Thanks to Bailey Farm having so many varieties, this kind of turned into a little science experiment. What else can I say other than that I will definitely be back next year for more strawberries. As a side note: I really wish farms grew Hood strawberries around here. Maybe we just don't have the right climate and soil for that variety? Those are my favorite by far, with the most sweetness (one batch I measured this year when down in Portland was 16 brix!) and best flavor complexity.

The parking lot for pickers is just north of the address on Yelp but they had plenty of signs that made it easy to find. You have to go down a gravel road to get there so keep that in mind if you don't want your car getting dirty. They had quite a few rows of strawberries for picking, and had 4 different varieties available. We also saw some apple trees where the apples were growing for picking in the fall and some peach trees. They also have veggies to pick but we didn't walk that far back. A lot of the strawberry plants had been pretty picked over but still had plenty of fruit if you pulled up the leaves and looked. We ended up picking about 3 lbs of fruit to take home. The fields are super dusty so make sure to wear sneakers you don't care about because they will get covered in dirt. We enjoyed a relaxing time picking berries and enjoying the beautiful views. I will definitely be back with my husband and daughter to enjoy picking some more fruit.

But I was very turned off last year by them asking for tips when paying with a credit card! They can turn off the tip option on their credit card machine but they choose not to. I think sometimes they let go through the screen yourself and select your options on the ipad but I've also encountered them several times asking loudly, do you want to leave a tip? Their u-pick prices are already $1-$3 higher per pound for most things compared to the farmers market and then on top of that they want tips. It is DISGUSTING. They don't make tipped wages like waiters so why are they trying to get even more money from their customers through tips? People may leave tips but guess what, in this economic climate, we don't want to leave tips. But we feel that if we don't that you will not only judge us but perhaps even treat us badly. The tips that you have received aren't a signal that we think you are doing a great job; we are afraid of repercussions if we don't. Edit: I thought they were organic but I just checked their website and it doesn't explicitly say that they are, it did mention healthy soil. But it says they offer organic vegetable starts which kinda implies they are organic. So keep this in mind when looking at their pricing.

The proprietor was very helpful, and gracious -- I'm sure I'm not the first suburbanite to have crossed his path -- and now, I won't have to check the circulars for sales on blueberries for a good, long time. I'm told by my local relatives that it you're planning to go, check first whether it's open, because hours are not regular, and, of course, the harvest time has to have come. I thought a cooking class would be fun so I turned to Groupon to see if there were any good deals. There were 3 in Seattle and 2 in Woodinville. I emailed each location to see if anyone had space for our group the weekend of my birthday. All (except one) were not very accommodating and the ones that I had spoke to weren't very friendly. I'm not sure if it was because I was using a deal on Groupon that was off putting to them, which has happened to me in the past. Dona from Winery Kitchen called me after reading my email and she was so warm and friendly. She told me that the weekend of my birthday they had a class going on which was not the one on groupon, it was actually more expensive (mozzarella making class). BUT Dona was so kind enough to offer me that class at the groupon rate for the weekend I wanted and she even put an event on the website that had a cupcake picture and titled it "Vicki's Birthday Party" How sweet is that?? The location was easy to find with the directions and address she sent. Upon arrival, I saw two buildings, one was a house and the other looked like a detached garage with cute wine barrels outside for decoration and a large "Winery Kitchen" sign. There was a sign that said Kitchen on the side of the house and an arrow pointing you to go around back. There were a few garden beds and a table where herbs were growing on the patio. I entered in through the sliding door and saw the class. You could tell it was new, but it had a rustic and warm feeling to it. Dona and the wine educator, Katrina, were both very sweet and welcoming. They even had a birthday note on the chalkboard for me and made cupcakes and strawberries with a delicious fruit dip! Since my friends are from Seattle and I am from the Auburn area, I told them I would just meet them there. I should have tried to meet with them before hand because sometimes they have a tendency to be late... and they were about 30 minutes late! Oh man.. how embarrassing. I felt so bad that we had to wait for them, but Dona was so patient and assured me it was ok. She waited for them to start. While we waited, she showed us around the small garden out back, we pulled out elephant garlic, and learned about the herbs she had growing. When my friends finally showed up, we began class. The class consisted of myself, 4 of my friends, and two other people. We were given name tags, aprons, and gloves. First, we went to the tasting room for an olive oil tasting, which was interesting and different for me me since I have never done that. I probably won't be drinking olive oil again anytime soon unless I had bread and balsamic vinegar to go with it ;) but it was a good experience to taste it because I never realized how different they could all taste and how it could affect the food you cook. Oh I almost forgot to talk about the tasting room! It was so beautifully decorated. It had a rustic barn feel. A chandelier in the middle of the room, marquee letters, and a long dark wooden table. We moved back into the kitchen to begin making mozzarella and pesto. We made two different kids of pesto, one with spinach and the other with basil. Dona kept assuring us to try to make our own recipe that fits our taste buds and it was so fun to try everyone else's food! When we were all done, we sat back in the tasting room, ate what we had made, and toasted with a glass of champagne. We also spent time talking and getting to know each other. This class was amazing, I can't say enough good things about it or Dona. She makes you feel welcome, is always laughing, and just a great person overall. Winery Kitchen just opened not too long ago and she has big plans for future classes and gardening. I know they will be very busy, so book a class here! You won't regret it :) I will definitely be back!
