Ive been here two times in one week because it was THAT amazing. The restaurant itself is so open, airy, and bright. It has a modern minimalist touch to it which I love. I had the same thing both times. Lamb burger with no bun with a side of Caesar salad. The burger was juicy and the Caesar salad dressing was to die for. It was so good that I even asked what brand dressing they use. I was told it was home made! For apps we had the eggplant and zucchini fritters. They came with a yummy dipping sauce. It had a nice crunch to it. My husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. He loved that the coleslaw came in it instead on the side. The truffle fries were okay. The fries itself were small. After looking at this place for nearly a year I finally made a reservation for my mom's birthday. At almost 7PM in the middle of the week it was still relatively crowded which shows how good this place is. Our waiter was super nice and patient as we browsed the menu and decided what we wanted to get. For an app we got the pigs in blanket which is mini hotdogs in a crunchy bread served with pickled cabbage and this delicious jalapeno dipping sauce. Definitely not your usual pigs in blanket! It was good but so filling. For my entree I had the brick chicken which was piping hot, served over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes that were also delicious but extremely filling. My mom enjoyed her pasta carbonara and we both ended up bringing leftovers home. For dessert I powered my way through the seasonal cheesecake as I was so stuffed at that point. It was the best part of the meal! Crunchy crust with a homemade whipped cream with the most delicious raspberry sauce I have ever tasted. My mom enjoyed her mousse cake which came with peanut brittle. Overall a beautiful and inviting spot with prime real estate on Merrick Road (corner lot with two entrances and a light!). Absolutely incredible brussells sprouts. When I tell you I have driven 50 minutes here just for the brussells sprouts I am not lying. We came here on a weekday afternoon and there were maybe 8 other tables being serviced. There was no hostess stationed and we waited about 15 minutes to be seated. We are seated and it appears there is only one waitress. The wait to have our drink order taken was about another 15 minutes. They appeared to be short staffed, as there were young servers in puffy slides and biker shorts brining out food and drinks; they seemed a bit all over the place. Would have liked to have seen the staff dressed in a cleaner fashion, one of the runners was literally wearing a Snookie shop shirt and looked like she just woke up. For a place where we usually have a good time, the professionalism fell short for us on this visit. My husband orders the brisket Benedict dish, which says on the menu it's two biscuits with eggs Benedict. It arrived and it was one biscuit cut in half. It was kind of expensive as well; the size of the dish-- shown below is basically an appetizer sized plate with a handful of home fries and the eggs on the biscuit. poor service, mediocre food, not coming back. We asked for steak medium rare and what we got was well done, burnt and tasteless. Chicken parm was so so, salmon was bitter. We had to keep asking for water refills, our waiter was not attentive or did not care. Our Brussels Sprouts never came, we got charged $2 for raw onion that nobody asked for. They charged us $3 per person to cut our cake but they didn't know how to cut the cake, they gave each of us a very tiny sliver of cake even though we had a large cake enough for 11 people. A few of our guests asked why the piece was so tiny, the waiter couldn't even give us more slices, they just gave us back the rest of the cake and we had to cut it ourselves. We paid them extra to do nothing. None of the food was good, just okay and the service is not good, what a waste of time and money. read more

Dined at Bluebird for Sunday brunch with friends and we enjoyed our time there. The ambiance is very clean, open and full of natural light. The honey biscuits are a must try for a starter. It's both sweet and savory, and the lemon rosemary honey butter made it more mouthwatering. The lamb burger was good, I would've preferred a little less feta, as it was a huge slab, but I just cut the feta portion in half. Our table had chicken and waffles and garden scramble bowls which they enjoyed. The best part of our dining experience was our drinks and our bartender/server Blake. I literally had "The Time of My Life" cocktail and it was one of the best drinks I've had in a while. Blake made the perfect balance is sweet, tart & spicy. We stuck to the Dirty Dancing themed drinks such as the "I'll Never be Sorry", "Go Back to your Playpen", and "Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner". They're all good, but that strawberry-lime-jalapeño is a hit. Blake was witty, informative on things to try, and even sang a few songs from Dirty Dancing movie with me. I always went back and forth about trying bluebird because I kept hearing mixed reviews. I finally went. While I can't speak on their dinner menu, the brunch was great! The service was top notch! We had a seat on the outdoor patio which had a few umbrellas. We were checked on by multiple staff members to make sure everything was to our liking. We got the working for the weekend cocktail. I was slacking and didn't get a photo but it was garnished so nicely, it was refreshing for a summer day. We got the bluebird Benny. The eggs were perfectly cooked and tomato hollandaise was a nice change up from the usual. We also got the buttermilk waffle with fried chicken. The lemon herb butter served alongside it was amazing. Met some friends for brunch today. The decor is very bright and airy. A good selection on the menu; it's nice that they provide brunch as well as lunch choices. We were initially seated in what is probably their primary seating area. We found the booth seats to be extremely low as compared to the height of the table, so we asked to be moved. The host suggested the hightop tables in the bar area, and they were perfect. We also realized that the noise level was much better in this area than in the previous one. We were on the fence about trying Bluebird Kitchen, but all agreed that it was a positive & delicious experience. First off, the parking lot is huge..just gigantic for this area where parking is tight. Loved the décor, very sleek and modern in a powder blue, white with black hardware theme..clean and inviting. Great tableware and lighting. Menu is varied though not as much for vegetarians or vegan palates but a bunch of apps could easily suffice. I'd skip the Arugula & Beet salad, a true disappointment at 14 dollars although the dressing was excellent. Our party had the Lamb Burger (excellent), Bluebird Classic Burger, Smac-N-Cheese and the Chicken Milanese (for the win) and an order of the Spicy Grilled Broccolini that looked a bit better than it actually was. For dessert we shared the fabulous warm baked Choc Chip cookie. Drinks included Draft Cocktail "Espresso Martini", One of the mezcal drinks, a Rye Manhattan & a seasonal cocktail made with Rye & Squash that was interesting... Our server Morgan took great care of us while we awaited our food. Dinner was 200 dollars for the four of us, plus tip which once upon a time would have been a sum one would imagine if dining at The Russian Tea room or somewhere exotic. I have been eyeing this place for a while. I finally got to go and I was not disappointed! Everything we had was delicious. It's a really cute quirky farm housey restaurant. The decor is simple yet chic. Our waiter was extremely attentive and super friendly. He offered us a spicy strawberry margarita of his own recipe which sounded delish but we weren't drinking anymore that night. Appetizers we chose were the smac and cheese TRUFFLED, they used large shells which held up the sauce really well. The topping was super crispy and deliciously cheesy. I cannot wait to eat this again. The pigs in a blanket were also delish. It came with what seemed like homemade mustard which was also really good and paired well with the piggies. The truffle risotto was perfectly cooked and there were a ton of mushrooms and the truffle was extremely evident. The star of the show for me was the brick chicken. Perfectly crispy skin, juicy and moist chicken atop a creamy garlicky mash. The chimichurri sauce contained nuts which seemed like pistachios. so beware. But it was extremely delicious, they added caramelized onion on the side which paired well with my first bite of everything. I even had leftovers and microwaved, the chicken was still juicy. Today I visited Bluebird Kitchen for the first time. Ambience was good. Service was good (especially the service provided by the server with dark hair and dimples, I wish I'd have asked him his name). Food not so much. I ordered the crème brûlée pancakes. There was crème on top of the pancakes, but the crème was not bruleed. I was looking forward to a nice sugary crunch on top of the pancakes. To make matters worse, I ate a small piece of a pancake and could tell something was distasteful. I had a second bite and immediately I could tell there was too much baking powder used in the recipe. I explained this to the server. He apologized. I told him I didn't want a new batch, but I would have a blueberry muffin. He quickly returned with 3 blueberry muffins because, he explained they were small (true). The muffins were quite good and the coffee was excellent. Obviously I was not charged for the pancakes and I wasn't charged for the muffins. If not for the disastrous pancakes Bluebird Kitchen would have been given 4 stars by me. read more

The tables are spaced out for privacy and it's comfortable. We loved the drink menu - give me 80s named cocktails and I'm ready to party! I had the Livin on a Prayer and it was good and strong. We share a poutine appetizer - it was so good. Fries were crispy (at first, of course) the gravy was flavorful and the cheese was super melts my. Definitely so good. We also had the gnocchi (slightly gooey but Sauce was yummy) and the shrimp risotto (good flavor). Service was friendly but somewhat slow for an early dinner inn a not so full restaurant. Food was mediocre. Service was terrible. Ambiance is fine - just as pictured. I had steak and eggs for brunch. It was fine. My plate came out fifteen minutes before the other plates at the table and food was cold by the time we began eating. It seemed like the last two plates of the six of us got lost - we asked three different servers to check on them and nobody came back to let us know what was happening. No apologies or acknowledgements. We had to chase down servers for beverage refills and ultimately to pay our cheque. This is the best! Stopped in for an impromptu date night and had a wonderful time. Ordered the Fig Salad(substitute the goat cheese with bleu cheese), Chicken Milanese, Berkshire Pork Chop, and a side of the Brussel Sprouts.. everything was absolutely delicious!! They have a nice beverage menu(cocktails, wine, and more) and everything is made fresh! Dessert was just as awesome - the Bluebird Sundae AND the Cookies.. I like to give this restaurant a higher rating but we had a problem with Juan our server. We were warned by the hostess that Juan was overwhelmed even though the restaurant was not crowded. Tuesday night is the $15 pasta specials. The pasta is handmade from their sister restaurant Barano from Brooklyn. What's with the "sister" restaurant, it's never a "brother" restaurant, LOL. Anyway I showed Juan a photo of a pasta dish from Bluebird's instagram and he said they don't have that dish, its a seasonal dish. It was literally posted 2 hours ago, how is that possible. Not only is Juan overwhelmed he's also not familiar with the menu. I did enjoy the meal although way too much cheese was added to the dish. They should have asked if we wanted more cheese but that extra work might have stressed out Juan. The restaurant is beautiful and we did enjoy the food and would like to visit more often but they need better trained servers. Maybe it was a bad night so I'll give them another shot and update my review if it goes well. read more

Quite honestly this was the best call to come here, I had originally planned to go to another restaurant but soon found out they had given our reservation away, I called blue bird and they took us in a heartbeat. We sat down immediately was greeted by the staff as if we had known them for years. Ambience was great cute blue interior and wonderful furniture around the place makes you feel at home. We love this place! Since it opened, my husband and I have been probably a dozen times. The decor and ambiance is great, not stuffy and dark like a lot of restaurants. The bar area is really nice. Sometimes we come with our kids and never feel uncomfortable. They color or play with something while we enjoy the amazing cocktails. I love how the menu and drink menu change seasonally. All the bartenders and wait staff are amazing- knowledgeable about the menu and ready to make recommendations. I was really looking forward to this place. I've been following on IG. They didn't have the dinner rolls or chocolate mousse cake. All the dishes we did order were just not good and very small for the money. The hash browns were roasted potatoes with bad spicy seasoning. The chicken sausage was still linked together in the casing. The pulled pork hash tasted like Thai food. We did get the honey biscuits, they were actually good but I forgot to take a picture. The bread that came with my meal was burnt to a crisp I could not eat it. The lemonade was very good. The chicken sandwich was extremely thick and oily. We took one bite of the mac and cheese and wrapped it up. I don't think anyone will eat it. My husband and I still feel nauseous from the food that we did eat. We wasted $220. TL;DR- Strange. Would not return. This place is suffering from an identity crisis. Cloth napkins and water from decanters suggest an upscale intention, while Night Court playing on the TV suggests a different vibe. The menu was as equally disparate, ranging from Italian to BBQ. One thing was consistent though- laughably high prices for what ya get. The mozzarella sticks were fine though not especially hot. The accompanying sauce was fine (the descriptor of the meal: Fine.) The gnocchi with short rib ragu dish was odd. The gnocchi themselves were wonderful- clearly not store bought, fluffy and tasty. The ragu, however, was watery, with crunchy carrots and celery and oddly bitter. It needed salt and some measure of richness. I did not enjoy it at all and if you've read enough of my reviews, you know I'm not a fussy eater. Also, the portion was small for the price. J got the ribs which came with fries and slaw. The ribs weren't tender but the sauce was nice. Side note- it's awkward and messy to eat sauced ribs having only been given one cloth napkin. The cole slaw was pretty bad- it tasted like it had spoiled. Neither one of us ate more than a nibble to taste it. The fries were fine but completely unseasoned and barely warm. No salt shakers on the table so had to ask- received a little cup of loose salt. I was too discouraged to even attempt dessert. 2 sodas (neither of which were ever refilled), an app of 4 mozzarella sticks, a 1/2 rack of ribs with inedible slaw and tepid fries, and a salad bowl portion of admittedly lovely gnocchi sadly drowning in "ragu." $79 before tip.
