This venue is great. I'm going through all the concerts I've been to, and realized that I never reviewed this place! I went to Colorado to see a band play three shows in the state, and the last night was in Denver. I drove about 500 miles in 3 days to see this band perform. I got there super early, after enjoying a bite to eat at the place across the street. I parked for free in the cleaners parking lot also across the street. I can't remember if there was a coat check or not, I was too eager to be right next to the stage. The stage had a little overhang, so I was able to just bundle up my coat and throw it under there. The venue is sized pretty well, less than 1000, and there are tiers so if you get there late you can still see the stage. The sound was great for the show, my view was obviously great. After the band came back from the encore, they personally thanked me for coming to all the shows and pointed me out to the crowd. So yeah, duh this place is getting 5 stars. read more

this is the worst venue in Denver. There staff is incredibly rude and their bartenders are god awful. Even if it was your last dollar I would not reccomend going here! If I could give it less than one star I would!!!!! Came all the way from Michigan to see my favorite performer and their staff made my experience terrible. 0/10 DO NOT RECCOMEND!!!! I like the size of the Bluebird. I like the types of bands the Bluebird normally attracts. I like the tiered levels inside and the balcony above. I like that they don't pat me down like I'm a criminal before I enter. I like their pretty marquis. I don't like the blinding blue light located beneath each stair that assaults my eyes. I don't like the sound (the last show I saw didn't have vocals turned on for a song!). I don't like that they charge fees even when you buy at the box office. Plenty of likes and dislikes, but the fact that the sound quality is really hit and miss is kind of a big'n and almost enough to make me forget all of the things that I like about the Bluebird. It's better than a lot of other venues in Denver, though, so for that I will give them 4 stars. read more

Beautiful space. Great booking. Terrible management. No, you can't bring in your empty water bottle, and no, they won't give you a cup of water. But yes, of course you can buy an overpriced bottle of the stuff. Sure it is bad for the environment and a bit of petty extortion, but they definitely don't make enough money on service fees, ticket prices and six dollar (or something like that) pbr cans. Beyond that, expect to be searched prodded and watched. You aren't adults and this definitely isn't the sort of place rock music is played or anything. Remember when you used to cut loose to this stuff? But the sound and bands are good, so I suppose I'll still show up on occasion. And not buy anything and duck out as soon as it is over. read more

This place reminds me of the Gaslighter in Downtown Campbell, California. I came to the Bluebird for the Air Guitar Championships! I'm serious.. It was awesome! They have a full bar in here and can whip you up anything your little heart desires.. There is tons of room and also an upstairs balcony. Wherever you stand, you can see the stage which is awesome! The sound quality could be a little better but it's an old theatre so that is to be expected. Bluebird is right across the street from Goosetown Tavern so you can pre-party there for cheaper than inside the theatre! Good times at Bluebird!! read more

This venue has a horrible staff with no desire to please the customer. I could not be more disappointed in this venue. :( I came here on my birthday with good cheer, and am now determined never to come back again. Thank goodness there are so many other venues out there! I wish I could review a show at the Bluebird but the show I paid to see got postponed WITHOUT TELLING ME!!!!! I bought tickets to a show months ago and scheduled an entire weekend around this show. We made travel plans, paid for a hotel, made arrangements for someone to stay with our kids. Then we get all the way to show only to find out they rescheduled another band to play and moved the show we wanted to see to six weeks from now. I understand how hard it would have been to contact everyone who bought a ticket since I only gave them my email address and how in the world could they possibly communicate with ticket buyers if they only had their email address??? Are you kidding me? This is the worst type of service I have ever encountered. With bands like this, they obviously knew months in advance that they had to reschedule. In fact, the band we went to see was in Nashville the night we were supposed to see them so somebody at the Bluebird knew about this long ago and made the conscious decision to not give a crap about their customers and not let them know about the change. We could have easily changed our plans if someone had just sent us an email. How hard would that have been? The staff at the Bluebird acted like they were just as surprised as we were. So, either your staff is completely in the dark or they were just lying to make things easy on themselves. They told us we could come back in six weeks for the show we had already bought tickets for. But, are they going to pay for our child care, hotel and travel expenses which were already sunk costs? My guess is not. Bottom line is someone here is either lazy, incompetent or both. read more

mm, shmea. i've been to the bluebird a few times recently for some different shows, and i was pretty into it. i guess at concerts i tend to pay a little more attention to the actual concert and not the venue, but there were plenty of places to squeeze in and see the stage (it helps that i'm an amazon woman sometimes), the crowd was pretty decent, etc. etc. etc. however. last time i was there to see brett dennen (so good!) i didn't bring my ID as i didn't plan on doing any drinking, just hang out with the parents, enjoy the show, etc. however. the show was sixteen and up, and when asked for my id, i said, "oh i'm not drinking". the "bouncer" tentatively let me in, then whispered to my mom, "just don't let her out of your sight, okay?" DO I REALLY LOOK FIFTEEN YEARS OLD. of course, when i had to go to the bathroom, i left my mother's sight. he glared at me the entire time i was waiting in line. which reminds me, those bathrooms are dangerous. steps everywhere. so. in conclusion: pretty good venue, i like it, just not the bouncer or the deathtrap bathrooms. read more

Cowboy Mouth was AWESOME!!!!...at the Bluebird recently and I saw them and I loved them again! I'll get to the Bluebird review shortly. When Cowboy Mouth comes back to Denver next year GO!! You will get to see one of the best live shows of your life or I will buy your a drink after the concert and ask you why you are so lame. They are so much fun and the coolest is the drummer is also the lead singer. My brother hurt his knee from jumping so much and I had sore legs and from the crown and 7's..because if it weren't for all the anyway. Check them out on youtube.com sometime. Ok the Bluebird theatre. It was cool for an intimate crowd and had a nice layout as it's tiered so most of the people have a good view. The decor is pretty cool as well but I think the sound man needs to be replaced as you couldn't hear the opening band's singer very well at least not the words so I made up my own words to the songs but I can't repeat them anytime soon. Alright the Bluebird I give four stars, not a big fan of the speed of the barkeeps so tip them well and they will be your friend...quickly!!! I think I might like the Gothic theatre better because it's a little larger and I think the layout is better but since it's bigger your can have a better layout dummy so ok I them the same. : ) Have a nice day! Excellent concert venue! Saw ZZ Ward 6/03/17. Sound was great! Sold out show but not to crowded...no shoving and fighting for spots like at The Ogden. Bartenders friendly and drinks were reasonably priced. $6.50 for bourbon and seven. Can't go wrong here!! read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I bought presale tickets to the show on 10/24/15 and was expecting to have the time of my life. My boyfriend then got kicked out for bumping into a "bouncer" and his wristband was subsequently ripped off. I went outside to find him and then we tried to return to the concert, as we did nothing wrong. The "bouncer" with pink hair said we "lied" about going outside and attempted to rip my wristband off. My boyfriend stepped between us because she was swinging at and scratching me. She then got her "manager" who threatened to call the police on me. Might I remind you, I did nothing wrong. My boyfriend also did nothing wrong, but got expelled for bumping into a bouncer. Regardless, my going outside to talk to my boyfriend didn't merit my being kicked out of the show. Overall, the staff was incredibly rude and ignorant. They used their "power" to kick numerous patrons out and degrade paying customers. I saw numerous people get kicked out for various reasons, such as having "too many drinks." I will never return to the Blurbird and will encourage friends and aquaintences to keep their distance. I am completely disgusted by my treatment and experience. Stay away from this degrading place!! read more

Really great place to see a show, nice sound, nice bar, nice drink prices, very cool roll-out metal detector at the entrance we enjoyed being scanned by... but I came to Yelp this morning after last night's show there to see if people ever felt like it was crap Bluebird didn't give people buying drinks (me, in my example) free water if they asked. Turns out they've had a no free water policy for years. And it's made thirsty people mad the whole time. It's making me mad and thirsty right now just thinking about it. A very awesome venue that keeps with Denver's great theater music scene, operating like a mini-me version of the Ogden. I love that they have bar stools behind the sound control area in the middle - saves on having to stand the whole time while allowing for a great view. The acoustics aren't as good as the Ogden in my opinion, but I do like how the smaller size makes the show even more intimate. And then there's the ample selection of eateries and watering holes within a couple blocks. The Bird and surrounding area certainly makes for a fun evening of entertainment. read more

I drove 15 hours overnight from Austin to see Metric back in the Fall of 2007. Arrived in the afternoon and got an hour or so of shut-eye at an East Colfax motel (review to come). That evening I drove to the Bluebird and the venue made the trip just as worthwhile as the show itself. Friendly, fast service at the bar and not a bad seat in the house. The stage and lighting make for a memorable show experience. Didn't even have to park too far away. I have returned since and love being able to stand directly against the stage each time. Will definitely be back in the future! read more

I have NO FREAKING IDEA why the Bluebird is rated so high! Ever since I started seeing concerts, the Bluebird has been by far my LEAST favorite venue to see bands. The sound sucks there, plain and simple. Numerous times I have been unable to hear the singer and the mixing of the band is just not right. The last time I was there, the band couldn't hear themselves properly in the monitors and would have to ask the back of house to fix the sound. And I know I am going to sound old, but they usually have the sound up WAY too loud, it always gives me a headache. They also have issues with their temperature control. Back in the day when I was underage and had to sit on the balcony during a show, I thought I was going to freeze to death because they had the air conditioning blasting so much. I had to leave early I was so cold. Then last time I was there I was so hot that I thought I was going to vomit and pass out (I wish I was exaggerating). I also want to mention that last time I went I was with my friend who is 8 months pregnant (she's pregnant, not dead, and is still allowed to go to concerts) and there were no chairs for her to sit in. None of the employees offered her a chair and she ended up sitting on the floor in between bands. Every other venue I have ever been to has had chairs for people to sit in. This to me makes the Bluebird a very unwelcoming place to people with disabilities or pregnant women. I will give them a little props that they have cleaned up the place over the years. But the sound still sucks there and if I am going to go see a band, I want the sound to be good. Basically, I avoid the Bluebird if at all possible. read more

Just had my first experience at the Bluebird. While I liked the theater, I thought it was pretty messed up that the bar charges $2 for a CUP of water. That's like saying, "We don't care about our customers. Give us your two dollars or get out." If you're serving alcohol, you should serve FREE water. Keep your customers happy, hydrated, and buying more alcohol. In addition, security kept on coming around and throwing out everyone's drinks that were sitting on ledges and tables. read more

The Bluebird Theater has the smell. They book fantastic shows, they have cheap drinks and they are only a few blocks from my front door. What else could you ask for? read more

Love this place. Always good music, great sound and you can see easily in any part of the venue (I'm a small guy so that's important). But that's not the best part! The people working the venue are incredible !! Workers are usually impartial to how they're treating guests but these guys were friendly and professional. Another great night at the Bluebird so I figured I may as well Yelp about it. Tonight just happened to be Reckless Kelly with an awesome local band, the Holyfelds, and Hellbound Billy. Apart from living like two mins away, this is a cool old venue with a killer sound. Most of the bands I have seen here have only been $15 to $20 for tickets and you can purchase tix at their box office window and save on BS fees. They do however charge a couple of bucks more if you use your credit card. Its a mini-me version of the Ogden with a balcony upstairs and then the floor is tiered down to the stage so really there isn't a bad seat in the house, if it had seats that is :o) I looked at the beer menu and they were $4, $5 or $6 so that ain't too bad. The draught beer comes in plastic cups but if you get bottled beer you get the bottle so obviously they don't get the type of crowd who would use them as missiles! They have a few bouncers wandering around but they all seem cool and I have never ever seen any trouble there so far. Have a shufty online and see if a band you know is coming to town OR just swing by and check out a band you have never heard of as it wont break the bank!! read more

I personally think that any bar has a responsibility to give free water if you ask. They wouldn't here even though you have to pay a steep fee to get in. People get dehydrated when dancing and listening to music and drinking, assholes. You should give them free water. I was even going to tip you for it, but fuck this place. read more

It's been over 2 years since I first wrote a review for the Bluebird and my how things change. I rarely go to the Bluebird anymore. If it wasn't for the fact that I work across the street I might never go. Nothing against the 'Bird I just don't feel as attracted to the place. The Hi-Dive has become my most often attended music venue. That's just the way it goes. As far as medium size venues go, I would still recommend Bluebird over the Ogden and Gothic (but only because it's all the way out in Englewood). read more

One of the best places for a show. Intimate atmosphere and tiered levels, so you never get a bad view (unlike the Fillmore's flat floor). Since my bladder is the size of a pea (no pun intended heh heh) I'm constantly having to leave my spot at a show and end up feeling guilty trying to get back to the spot I was.... which means I end up relinquishing my spot at most places. Not at the Bluebird. The wide tiers give you enough room to dance and also get in and out when you need to, whether it's to grab another drink or go to the bathroom. I never have to step on other people's toes or shamefully say, "Excuse me, sorry! I'm really sorry!" when trying to get out. Bathroom hardly ever has a line, unlike the Fillmore (sorry for all the dirty glances Fillmore, but Bluebird and Ogden do it better). Drinks are super cheap here too, compared to the Fillmore's $10 beer. I'm pretty sure PBR cans here were $3 or some ridiculously cheap price (don't quote me on it, but I know at the time I was pleasantly surprised). I'm always happy when my fave artists announce their show will be at the Bluebird. read more

finding parking anywhere near the venue is impossible on the evening of a good gig. forget about it. the entire neighborhood that surrounds this place are the biggest parking-nazis. the venue is very decent, but i think they could pull even better bands. what's with all the hardcore shows? larimer lounge gets way better shows, on a regular basis. read more

Bluebird is a great mid-sized theater with pretty good views. They host a pretty wide variety of music-I've seen some great acoustic shows and dance parties here. The balcony is especially nice, it's almost forgotten as a narrow staircase brings you up to a bar and a few rows of standing room. Its a great spot to go if you're late and still want a good spot. read more

We randomly stumbled across the bluebird theater when we were torn what to do on a Saturday evening. We saw Pandas & People and it was a fantastic show. The ambience of the Bluebird is perfect, intimate enough but not overly crowded. I loved how close you can get to the stage but still have breathing room. It is definitely a very eclectic theater and personally why I loved it. We walked from the 16th street mall ride (not a good idea unless it's in the day time and you don't mind a 2 mile (one way) walk!). Bear in mind that Colfax has dodgy areas so be smart. read more

5 stars for the artists and venue. So I have been told. And I have absolutely no reason to doubt this. If you can deal with the pathetic excuse for staff I'm sure you and your friends will have a great time (-4 stars). I went to the blue bird for the first time last night. Had my 24-yr old ID taken by a rude and incredibly unprofessional blue-haired bouncer named Dump Truck. After dialing 911 (there is no other way to get your ID back) to have the police come, the bouncer still would not let me in with my Denver-police backed ID and ticket. I then asked why I was not being allowed in and the man, without giving reason, threw me back and started yelling at me. I briefly spoke with a manager who also offered no reason for not being allowed in. I encourage anyone who has had a similar experience with this bouncer (or any other bouncers) to share your stories with fellow yelpers. Such great venues deserve to have staff that compliment the show and experience. read more

What a great venue. I remember seeing the Flaming Lips here with copious amounts of confetti. We left a trail of them all the way back to Monroe Street. It was like being a teenager again.
