What a wonderful little venue! Last night was my first concert here and I loved it! Bring ear plugs as the place is tiny, but that's what we love! We love seeing bands who are up and coming because you get a much more intimate show! Drink prices were high per usual but you know what you're getting into when you go to concert. Luckily for us, it's super close to our house so it's a quick Uber ride down the road! Can't wait until the next concert! read more

This is a small venue, perfect for about 300 - 400 people. If you take a seat at the top level, you'll notice that you aren't that far away from the artist. If you hang out on the floor, it has different levels so you don't have to worry about the huge guy right in front of you. This venue is great for anyone! Check it out, you might like it. Ah, The Bluebird. This is an under-rated venue in my opinion. Reasonable ticket prices and an intimate, (but not cramped), venue. They get a good variety of local bands and up and coming national acts. They have a tiered floor plan, which means you have a great view of the band even if you're not front row. If you're assertive, you can usually get situated right in front of the stage. If that's not your thing, there is a balcony where you can pretend you're at an opera or some shit. The tiers also provides endless entertainment since you can watch people trip on the stairs. Cruel? Maybe. Hilarious? Absolutely. My only complaint would be the inconsistent bar service. Most of the time, the bartenders are awesome, even during a crazy busy/loud show. The last show I was at, (Will Hoge), was not sold out and the bar area was surprisingly dead. Still took too long to get served, and my pours of Jamo on the rocks were insultingly measured out. I know, I know...that's the "right" way to serve but if I'm throwing down cash tips with each order I feel like I should get a little extra sumpin sumpin on my pour. Or at the very least I should get served a little more promptly. **Watch where you park in the neighborhood. Most of the side streets are resident-restricted and you'll be issued a $50 ticket. The Bluebird is by far my favorite venue in Denver. I'm not a crowd person. I'm also a short person. So it's always nice to find a place that has an excellent balcony with tables, stools, and a bar close by. Perhaps my love for the Bluebird is because of its intimacy or because my favorite bands have played here. In any case, much love goes to the Bluebird! The Bluebird is the perfect little theater in Denver. The kind of place that I've never been excited to find out a band is playing at, but certainly not the kind I dread going to. In fact, outside of the hassle of finding a decent parking space within walking distance, it's hard to fault the Bluebird for much of anything. It's a cozy size for an intimate show, but not small enough to sell out shows before the day-of. The barstaff is friendly and fast, and the drinks always strong enough for my taste. I've never been hassled by the security at this place, which is about all one can ask for in that respect. I make it a rule to avoid balcony seating like a pile of puke, so it's fortunate that the ground floor is organized into several tiers, offering plenty of viewing for shorter audience members (the missus appreciated this aspect at the Isis show last June!). Speaking of puke, though, watch out for the bathrooms: they give some truckstops a run for their money. But that just adds to the grimy, East Colfax charm. Also, taller gents will want to watch their step into the W.C....just a heads-up. On important matters like lighting, sound, and acoustics, I've never been disappointed with the facilities at the Bluebird. I've only seen metal shows here, but if the walls can survive Napalm Death's grinding guitars and blastbeats in the dead of December, that must be worth SOMETHING. The aforementioned Isis concert had one of all-time best live sound settings I've ever experienced, which takes some doing in the same city that boasts Red Rocks. Oh, and the Denver Air Guitar Regionals have taken place here for the past several years, and while that fact didn't 'inflate' my score, it certainly didn't hurt any. Bottomline, this is a fun little venue to see a moderately-hyped act, be they air or actual musicians, and a theater with more than a little history in Denver. If you can park in time for the openers, and hold your nose in the bathrooms, you'll have a ball. read more

The Bluebird remains one of my favorite venues. It's a very intimate room. Seeing a favorite act at the Bird feels like being just off-stage for an episode of VH1 Storytellers. This venue has a great vibe to it. It's small, and you really have an interactive concert experience. I always wonder if it's a union hall or not, because of sound issues. I see other reviewers comment on that as well. Having some experience in live sound related issues, I just don't think it's the room. I think there's a tendency for the sound engineer to push the volume, especially the low end, too much for the room. Yeah, parking can be an issue in that neighborhood, but only if you're arriving late, or are afraid to walk more than a block. They've cleaned up that section of Colfax, so it's not as big an issue as it used to be. Though, I sort of miss declining the drugs or sexual services that used to be offered outside the Bird. It was part of the venue's character. I don't know anybody who picks the venue first when deciding what concerts to go to, but if the artist you want to see is going to be at the Bluebird, be prepared for a fun night. There's nothing like seeing an act you love in a small, intimate setting. The Bluebird delivers on that front, and does so well. read more

Why do I love the Bluebird Theater so much? Is it because of the old historic architecture? Partly. Is it because they promote our local music scene? Absolutely. Is it because it was prominently displayed in "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead" as a hooker-infested jack-shack run by Christopher Lloyd? Probably. But besides all that, it really is a great little venue that's a true part of this city's history. From the pit to the balcony, there isn't a bad spot in the house to see your favorite band. The staff are really friendly, it's almost weird! They're just happy and friendly and really seem genuinely glad to have you there. And you know something, the tap selection ain't too shabby either. I have heard the gripes about the sound being sub-par, but realistically, it's pretty good for a venue this small. I relish the opportunity to see a show here. This is Denver at it's core! read more

I love seeing show's at the Bluebird. Great shows = Great memories! It does get really crowded when the place is packed but still able to move around. Bar services are great, I really enjoy the upstairs seating the best. Bathroom adventures can be a little scary and take a while, and the upstairs bathroom has a open window that I always feel someone from across the street can see me, but I've usually had several drinks by this time and really don't care! read more

A very cozy and fun place to see a show. Not too big, not claustrophobicly small, I've never had a bad seat or time at this this theater. The drinks are a little bit pricey but the lights have to stay on somehow and the cheap ticket prices aren't exactly exploding their cash registers in Pacman Jones-like money rain. The sound can be poor at times, that's my only real complaint. I think it depends on the sound guy. Much like the Ogden, street parking can be a little bit hairy so get there a little early. read more

I finally got to go to the Bluebird last night to see Lucero and Shooter Jennings. I have now completed my tour of the main concert venues in Denver, and the Bluebird ranks pretty high on the list. First, a word of warning: Beware the permit parking right next to the theater. The signage isn't totally clear from certain areas, and they look like those "Don't park here the first Thursday of the month for street sweeping signs." We did find that if you drive about a block further, you can avoid the permit parking and park for free. Easy, just be careful. The actual venue is much nicer than I expected it to be. As a height challenged individual, I was glad to see that there are all kinds of different levels and balconies for us to stand behind and be able to see. We went upstairs and grabbed a table and some stools, and for the most part we were able to see pretty clearly the whole time. The sound was a mixed bag, and after reading through other reviews, I'm hoping that was an anomaly, since everyone else seems to think the sound is awesome here. Vocals were too low in the mix and it was really hard to make out what the singers were saying. Generally the whole sound of each band was muddled into a kind of noise soup. If I didn't know the songs, as was the case with Shooter Jennings, they all ended up sounding pretty much the same because the mix wasn't letting anything stand out. It might have been because of the abundance of instruments in both bands, but I've seen Lucero with the eight-piece setup at the Ogden and the sound was MUCH better. The decor is standard venue stuff. The staff seemed nice enough, though they don't have the security presence that a place like the Ogden has, which is a blessing and a curse. You're not bumped into all the time and having flashlights shown into your eyes. But when the drunk asshats come out and start yelling and fighting, nobody's there to tell them to break it up. Overall, I was pleased with the venue, mostly because I could see, something that I can't say for the Fillmore. I also liked the size of the place, which is not as intimate as the Hi-Dive but is smaller than the Ogden. Not that reviews of concert venues really matter. If a band you like is playing somewhere, you'll go see them whether the venue is good or crappy, because it's not like you have any alternatives. read more

The Bluebird is a good venue to see up and coming bands. The sound system there is not the best, but I've heard that they are going to, or already have upgraded it. I've played there many times and the staff is always very accommodating. It's a great venue to do a showcase if you are a local band. Many times you can get comp tickets if you are over 21 and want to see some good local music. I have great memories of that place. When I was younger, I saw many bands play there that went on to fortune and fame, including Korn, Manson, Limp Bizkit, and Sevendust. There are great bars in the neighborhood, and Tommy's Thai is across the street, so whenever I go to a show there, I'll have some Pad Thai Woon Sen, and then head over to The Bluebird. Not the best venue in town, but a legendary place where you can see good music. read more

It's such a great venue. It once functioned as a porn theater... The first show I went to in Denver was here and I suppose part of its appeal is a sentimental one. Just a historic and great place to watch great live music being performed. Slim Cessna's Auto Club's New Years Eve show here should be a right of passage for anyone who lives in and loves Denver. It has great sound... the people booking the place are awesome.... and it is the PERFECT size... you know, not so big you are a sell out, but not too small so you are elitist. Actually the Ogden might fit that a bit better... but if you know of a band, and they play here.. don't miss it. If you have no idea what to do and have a chance to get to it.. do. It is seriously probably 1 of 1 in nicest Denver venues. And my bestest friend ever works are the Goosedown across the street. She is sassy, and will kick your ass. So there's that. The Bird is one of my local favorites for a live music venues...It is small enough so where ever you sit the sound is goona be killer...They have everything from touring acts to local flavor breaking into the scene...parking is a pain in the ass...but it is most places in Denver...The whole Colfax thing is good and bad...but shouldn't be a deturant from catching you music buzz there...The restroom thing is a pain...but it always is in places like this...so don't get pissed....yuk yuk..just dont drink more than you can store.. read more

I've been here three times for concerts and the staff has always been very nice. The venue is cozy, the acoustics are awesome, and the atmosphere is great. The location is cool, too. I love Colfax. One time the artist I usually see at the Bluebird had issues with booking there and had to have her concert at the Gothic, and that didn't sit well with me. It ended up being a subpar experience for myself and a few other fans, as well. The Bluebird will always be my first choice for concerts. I only had one small problem with them once, and that's when I brought brownies to share with fans outside the venue before the show. I had some leftover and they said I couldn't bring them into the show with me, so I had to leave them with the staff. When the concert was over, they gave me back empty tupperware, so I can only assume that they ate the brownies. That said, I did bring them to share with everyone, so I wasn't too upset. 4/5 stars. read more

After almost 2 years in Denver, and more than a year of living a block away from here..I FINALLY got to go the other night to see Matt & Kim. Before this, the Ogden was my favorite live music place, but now that has changed!! It's very intimate here, and the drinks weren't as astounding as I would have thought them to be. Although..the floor was shaking due to all the jumping and dancing around..I did feel like it was going to cave in at any moment! Just one more reason why City Park remains my favorite hood in Denver. read more

Finally made it to an event at the Bluebird Theater and had the best time!!! I thought it was a really great live music venue. We didn't want long to get in and were able to get drinks pretty quickly (the bar wasn't too crowded even though the place seemed to be). The bar tenders are quick to get you your drinks! This place seems to have been around FOREVER and reminds me a lot of old live music venues in Athens, GA (one of the king of live music cities...where U2 and the B-52s originated). That made it really authentic and cool. I don't know if it's the old wood or dark feel with high ceilings that did it or what...but it works and I liked it. I also absolutely loved the performance full of lights and smoke and the crowd was there to have a good time. It definitely gets loud once the band gets going but that happens everywhere right? No complaints at all. Lots of drinking and dancing and fun was had. read more

We recently went to the Bluebird to see Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven. What a great venue! The sound was fantastic and the view was amazing. No matter where you stand (no, they do not have seating), you'll always have a great view! The drinks were also relatively inexpensive AND they have a few local microbrews on tap. As others have mentioned, parking can be annoying. We actually scored a front row spot without a meter. Whoo-hoo! read more

Went here last night to see a concert, and was really pleasantly surprised. First of all, the place is in the middle of a bunch of restaurants and bars, so it makes it really easy to hang out before the concert to get something to eat and a couple of drinks. The venue itself has the feel of an old-school movie theater (probably because it was one, but I didn't ask whether it was real or a re-furb to look like one), and is a fantastic small venue. It's got an up- and downstairs bar, and has stepped viewing platforms for the audience (no seats, just a few tables in the balcony). Aside from the couple that stood (scratch that - they were trying to dance but really fell all over other folks) next to us for a few minutes (completely high, OOC and rude) that eventually took the collective hint and went somewhere else, the crowd was fantastic, fun, and great to hang out with. Love the people out here - you guys are all SO happy! :) Anyhow, we'll definitely be going back to the Bluebird! read more

Fillmore, Ogden and Bluebird oh my! I feel so lucky to have these three great venues in Denver. And they are all so close to each other! The Bluebird is probably the smallest of the three with a great vibe and that intimate feel that I love so much. Great sound and a decent beer selection too. I always look forward to seeing a show here. I love that Colfax has a row of concert venues! It seems so fitting, for some reason, that one of the seedier places in Denver can bring some great artists. Last night, I hit up a show at the Bluebird for the first time. I loved the small feeling (it felt smaller than the Ogden, am I right on that?)... Anyway, it's a really nice, intimate place for a show. We got a spot on the right side of the room, leaning against a railing. I have to say - there is VERY limited to NO seating, so if you're not ready to stand for a few hours, this is a tough venue. But for most concert goers, this isn't an issue. The beer (a Blue Moon) cost me $5.50.... Am I totally out of the loop, or is that not so unreasonable? I mean, I always expect these places to inflate their prices, but for some reason, $5.50 didn't really throw me off. Loved the show, loved the ambience, my feet hurt - but I'm okay with that. :) read more

The Bluebird hosts all kinds of events, from rock bands to other kinds of rock bands. I'm not even sure why I'm reviewing it, other than the fact that I checked in there once and Yelp wants me to know. So here's the skinny. It's a room that used to be a movie theater, with a balcony, and alcohol. But wait, there's more: there's a stage, that's sort of higher than the room, where people perform. Ok, you get the idea. A mighty sweet venue with an awesome old marquee that's a signature spot for the Denver music scene. The space is small, but not too small -- intimate, but not overcrowded (they're pretty good about not overselling shows). The acoustics won't blow your mind or anything, but it's certainly better than some of the other venues in town. All in all, a very reliable venue that you can trust time and time again. Bluebird Theater is a great place and has been convenient for me since I live in the vicinity. It's a typical small-concert venue/bar, but I have fond memories here: two Dir en grey concerts, Alex Goot & Friends this past summer, and the Lyft Launch Party for Denver. Intimate space to dance or mosh or headbang along with whatever music you're listening to. The stage, surprisingly, can fit quite a lot of equipment. Dir en grey has crazy equipment (very elaborate drum set, for example) and they still can manage to fit their stuff on stage. I like the nostalgic feeling inside. The only thing stopping me from giving the fifth star: the bathrooms. They're average, eh...could be better. But what do I expect at concert venues anyhow: immaculate restrooms? read more

Excellent customer service! Last night I went to a show with my blind friend. The security team was very accommodating. They allowed us to enter first and got us each a chair to sit on during the show. Also they have a jar full of ear plugs for free at the bar. How nice! read more

Bluebird has great acoustics. The lineup is pretty impressive and seems to be getting better all of the time. Be sure to stop and chat with the merch clerk on your way in! I have never watched a show from the balcony but I imagine that its a great view, and there is a bar nearby to keep the fans lubricated. Overall, a great place to see live music in Denver. The Bluebird is one of Denver's classic small venues. As mentioned previously, the biggest downsides are having to work with AXS and their ridiculous 'service' fees and navigating the lack of available parking. We deal with parking by walking to the shows or taking an Uber. With AXS, we just grin and bare it. On the plus side, its a small venue and has great views of the stage from just about anywhere. This is easily one of our favorite places to see shows. read more

What a great live music venue! Great "Old Fashioned" Theater feel with steep narrow steps leading up to the balcony. I saw Steel Panther Rock band with a few friends a couple nights ago at the Bluebird. Great show, great times. The bar upstairs was busy but never seemed to get as crowded as the main bar downstairs. Parking is a little trickey -- so plan to arrive early if you are gonna check out a show. The surrounding neighborhood streets do have large "Your Vehicle will be towed" sort of signs. I just got back from a weekend in Denver during which I had a chance to catch a show at the Bluebird. This is definitely a place I would return to when I come back to Denver. I knew I was going to like the place as soon as I saw the marquee - it's in an old renovated theater and has maintained the charming lit up display - something I appreciate living in a city that seems determined to demolish any older buildings with any character. Once inside the space was great - intimate, with sort of a tiered stadium type seating, which I haven't seen in a small venue like that before. There's also an upper level balcony seating area, which I always appreciate, and several drink specials, so having a good time didn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Parking is a challenge in the area, so have a plan of attack before you show up - there's a tiny lot across the street, and a lot of the side streets are resident permit parking only - the numbered streets parallel to Colfax do have open free parking though. read more

I spend most of my time on the floor in the front and I think the sound & mix varies throughout the theater but it's easy to navigate and find the right spot for your taste. read more

Personally, I think the Bluebird is a great place to see a show. Generally speaking, the staff has been pretty good; no one was effusive or anything, but who expects that from a theater venue staff? Drinks are reasonably priced. It gets pretty uncomfortable in there during certain shows, but again, who expects to be comfortable in these types of spaces? It's an interesting and beautiful space, and the acoustics are pretty good, though the last show I went to was mixed a bit too loud. At certain parts of the show, it just sounded like noise rather than music. Overall, however, I've had generally positive experiences here. read more

The Bluebird was the first venue I checked out after moving to Denver in May '08. Since then I have seen close to 20 shows and everyone was great. Security is cool, bartenders slang drinks the right way, and the sound is perfect. Everytime I go I find more and more history about the place.
