Service was okay, but the food was not worth the price!! I have as so excited to try this place and was just disappointed in the food

Presents itself as a fine dining location but don't be fooled, it is far from that. Maybe I am a little unrealistic asking for fine dining in the area but this place, on appearance, looked like I had found it but I unfortunately did not. Reservations were made via open table with very specific instructions for a disabled family member. When arriving they wanted to seat us upstairs even though we informed them of a guest in a wheelchair. Hostess spoke little English and struggled to understand that we could not use the stairs. Luckily our family member eventually did not join us. Service was a little rough around the edges and something you would expect from a lower end restaurant. Food was grossly under seasoned and not prepared well. It tasted like microwave meals thrown on a plate with garnish to try to pull off a fancy meal. It did not work. The pumpkin soup was bland, meats were tough, and they should have never even tried to make risotto. Unless you are staying at this resort and they offer you free meals I would recommend you choose to skip. read more

The atmosphere was nice and food was average with some highlights. The restaurant was out of a lot of items- ice cream, salmon, etc. Luckily, it didn't affect our order. Service wasn't anything memorable. Cocktails were not very unique or "crafted". The highlights included the duck wontons and the broth of the shrimp and scallop papperdelle dish. We have been patrons at this establishment for years!! before kids and now we go with our kids. We often stay at this resort w.kids and stop by here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food has always been consistently good. But what the F! is with some racist staff ??? We walk in today for dinner, tired and hungry, place isnt crowded, I can see the empty tables inside ground floor (3 tables almost) the hostess gives us one look and tells us "we have a 30-45 min wait, you can try the coho nearby" it was in the tone, the quick prejudiced delivery and the lack of receptiveness all together. One of the shittiest white hostess,services to date here. WTF!!! Really you were lucky I was tired and had my kids with me. I would have taken you to task brought this establishment to its knees. BTW There is 5 visible code violations in your place!! I could have started there, and worked my way into Other issues in your property. I was tired I put up with this inept prejudiced staff here. You all should be ashamed of such interactions with good returning patrons who are your best advocates. You ruined my evening, you idiots! Food IS good, so next time if I have to deal with this. Mrs. and I split the seafood paella for two and it was very tasty. Bar service at dinner table was unusually prompt, a big challenge for a lot of restaurants in the current hiring environment. I was brought here for my birthday thinking it was going to be special. My entrée was good- it was one the specials they had for the night. My boyfriend on the other hand ordered the beef and brie sandwich - They served what looked like a grocery store bun, frozen meat, and, the cheese on it was not melted (essentially an Arby's sandwich). They comped 5$ off the bill after we suggested they remove the item from the menu. Just from that we got the impression that this place is ran by greed versus serving quality food. Blown away at how poor this restaurant performed when compared to its reviews. The good- service was quick and the views were outstanding. The duck and wild rice soup was phenomenal and I need it in my life at all times. The Bad- Drinks were mediocre at best. Every drink at the table, and the table next to us, were extremely heavy on the bitters. Bartender could not follow exact instructions for a cocktail while the restaurant was not busy. Food was even worse. The wontons and dumplings were CLEARLY industrially made and frozen and not made in house. Both of the $45 house special steak were served underdone with a wide band of grey. Either their stove isn't hot enough, or they're frozen. The seafood paella 'for two' was good, but very under portioned for its price. Finally the lobster pappardelle used industrial noodles and came overcooked. Overall, this restaurant changed $500 for a very mediocre meal. Will not be returning. Had dinner here on a Sunday evening in June. The restaurant wasn't overly busy, but fairly full. We requested a table near the windows, but were told none were available, despite being told they didn't take reservations. Food was quite good and reasonably priced. We were surprised that the seasonal vegetables included with a kid's meal were Brussel Sprouts. Really? Tough enough to get the kids to eat veggies instead of fries, and they serve brussel sprouts? Our server was not very friendly or attentive. I asked a question about the lobster used, and she replied that she didn't know. I asked if the chef would know, and rather than offer to ask, she simply replied "oh, I doubt it." I requested ketchup for my fries, and by the time she returned with it, they was done. She did however wisk my plate away while I was still chewing, and dropped the check on the table before anyone else in the family had finished their meal. Service is hit or miss at resorts such as Bluefin. On out visit, it was a miss. UPDATE 6/15/19 Returned again, as it's one of the few decent restaurants in the area. Service was much improved, but the food was just so-so. My wife and I ordered the Breaker Burger. Meat was a frozen food-service patty that was just tossed onto a griddle. Absolutely no beef flavor and strange texture. The bacon strips were huge, but equally bland. Fries were good, but ketchup must be as valuable as gold here, since they only give you a tiny cup! We stopped here for lunch a few days ago and WOW it was a great experience all around. It appeared there were only two people working (other than the cook), Sue the hostess/bartender/busser and Kevin our server. Despite both of them being extremely busy, they were so friendly and accommodating. We had the exact opposite experience at another restaurant the day prior so we were definitely impressed with the service we experienced here. Overpriced, incredibly underwhelming. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and had been looking forward to eating at Lutsen Resort for months, obviously that can't happen (corruption), so we had to pivot. Bluefin Grille's menu looked fantastic and their prices reflected prices of a nice restaurant so my husband called to book a reservation for us and simply asked for a table with a view since it was a special dinner for us. The lady on the other end of the phone said "can't promise anything". When we arrived to BG they did not have our reservation on file, even though my husband showed them the confirmation text he received. We got seated at a table upstairs far away from any windows. We saw the perfect table open up and requested to move over there. They said no it's reserved in 30 minutes. 10 minutes later another couple sits down next to us and requests to be moved to the table by the window and they brought them right over there. Besides the host situation being less than ideal, the food was awful and came out so quickly. Quick is great if Im going to McDonalds, but when I'm going out for a celebratory dinner and ready to pay a lot of money for a nice evening, Id like to take my time with the meal. We ordered apps and "nice" entrees and could've been out the door in 35 minutes. We ordered the duck and bacon wontons and duck chowder to start and I'm pretty sure the wontons were just stuffed with the chowder lol. Strangely similar. My husband ordered the shrimp and scallop risotto ($37). This risotto looked like malt-o-meal and he was too frightened to even try the scallop. I ordered the sirloin with wild rice and seasonal veggies ($29). Don't be fooled, the "seasonal veggies" were just a microwaveable California medley. Disgusting. I was very excited about the wild rice and it was ice cold. The steak was terrible as well. It was supposed to come with a rosemary butter... there was no butter or flavor in sight. Cy, our server, was absolutely wonderful. He was so kind, calm, and professional in handling objections from many other tables, not just ours. We felt terrible for him that the chef/restaurant are fine scamming people and serving this food while their servers get ripped to shreds by guests because of the lack of quality. I have NEVER been to a restaurant where every single table sent at least 1 food item back. Bluefin, it's sad that you are charging that amount of money for the quality of food and service you're offering. Being one of the only restaurants in the area, you have a fantastic opportunity to just at least an average bar and grill. Don't try to be something you're not. Huge Waste of $180 and waste of a honeymoon dinner experience. read more

We enjoyed the game meatloaf and the pan fried walleye however the mashed potatoes need some work as they were lumpy and cold. In my personal opinion, not worth it for the price. read more

This was our second trip to the Bluefin Grille while we were staying for a few days. At this time, reservations are required and can be made online. I would recommend making your reservation for a half hour or so before you actually want to eat because we had reservations for 8 and weren't seated until 8:30, but were able to grab some drinks at the bar while we waited. We ordered the maple salmon and a entree sized house salad and both were very good. The buttermilk dill ranch dressing is wonderful - they should bottle and sell it! Salmon was delicious and a very generous portion and the mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies were also great, highly recommend! Also the restaurant overlooks Lake Superior so the views are unmatched. read more

We visited on 6/8/21. The menu changed about 2 weeks ago, so ignore all food pics and menus. We are going back tonight and I'll take pictures. This is one of the only places to eat in Tofte and the new menu has a variety of things to eat, including St. Louis ribs and a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. The Walleye is the best, offered in a sandwich or platter. My husband has the salmon and it was large enough to share. The wild rice soup and the chowder was delicious. Local beers on tap and a full bar. This is a very small town and most business is passers or BlueFin guests. We stayed in Bluefin Unit 23 and loved our views!!! read more

We've visited the Bluefin Grille quite a few times over the last severs years. It's always been a favorite spot of ours. Today we stopped on our way to stay in Grand Marais. After waiting for someone to acknowledge us for 7 or so minutes, we decided to seat ourselves. There were only a few patrons when we arrived, and no employees to be seen. The service was sub par, and the bathrooms weren't as clean as I'd expect. There were also no paper towels in the mens bathroom. We were super disappointed in the service, given the time of day and lack of patrons. Will give it another try, but super bummed since we've always loved this place and looked forward to visiting. read more

While staying at Surfside we dined at Bluefin Grille twice & had outstanding service from Ricardo for both visits. He was attentive, listened well, and anticipated our needs. Such a fabulous waiter! The food overall was great, but some of the dishes definitely had too many flavors added in. For example, the crispy lime garlic snap peas has a sweet curry base, but then was oddly heavy on red peppers and onions. Had I known these were both in the dish I would've asked to have them taken out. They were not listed on the menu & definitely were not needed in the dish. The pork chop special was also very good with the pineapple sauce on top; however, with steamed veggies and mashed red potatoes as sides it was an odd combo for an entree. And third, the lobster & shrimp pappardelle also had red peppers and onions in it. Both weren't listed on the menu and certainly not needed. The walleye sandwich and kettle chips were consistent with the menu & tasted great. the croutons on side salads were just SO good. They added the perfect crunch! read more

We've loved staying at bluefin and embracing all of its amenities but the Bluefin Grille was a bit of a disappointment. We ordered the duck and bacon wontons, which were great, and the seafood paella for two. Unfortunately the paella was not great. They say on the menu that it's made to order and our waiter confirmed that it could take 30-40 minutes, so we placed our order right away thinking we'd have time to eat the wontons and drink a glass of wine. As soon as we finished the wontons, the paella was out. Tasted decent but certainly not made to order. We will think twice next time we're in the area. read more

Second time I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, and for the second time it was delicious! Highly recommend.

Compared to all the other options on the North Shore, this was the best! With great prices and the drinks were really good. Can even get a bottle of wine for $30 which surprised me. We then joined the bonfire on the beach and listened to a musician and roasted s'mores! Great place to go read more

The hotel here is lovely and I have absolutely no complaints. Very reasonably priced and great rooms. The restaurant here however is completely overpriced for how terrible the food is. The staff were fine and the atmosphere is nice but the food was shockingly bad for the price point. My steak was $45 and looked like the steak on a banquet tv dinner box and the veg was not fresh. My girlfriend had the scampi ($37) and it was unseasoned and not fresh. Overall great resort but this restaurant was definitely the worst part of our stay. The only good thing left here is the view. We have been here several times previously over the last 10 years. You could always expect great service, good food and a fantastic view. Now you just leave disappointed. The only thing left IMO is the view. Overpriced, subpar food, and service. The last time I had eaten here was two nights in a row in March of 2023. They were on their first nights of a new menu change, and the food was absolutely terrible. The service was ok. My drink from the bar was just ok. I talked to the bartender about the drink, and he told me that all their "special" drinks are premade on a pitcher. Tonight, we decided to give it another try, thinking they could redeem themselves, and they had to have just been having a few bad nights. I was wrong. We arrived without a reservation. The hostess checked her iPad for a few minutes and then asked if we (party of 2) wanted to sit at the bar. I kindly declined, wanting a table and aked how long the wait would be. She checked her iPad again and ended up sitting us right away in the downstairs dining room at a booth. The seat of the had food on it. I simply brushed it away, overnights happen. We were seated and given menus. No water, no drink menu. Our server came a little while later and seemed frustrated that we weren't set up. She brought us waters and a drink menu. My drink was terrible. Aperol spritz. I'm not sure how you can mess that up? Food was sub-par. My walleye had no flavor. I added a lot of salt and pepper. My significant other had a ribeye, which was ok. It's definitely not worth the price. The whole vibe in the place has just gone downhill. It just seems chaotic and loud. We've been to eat at Bluefin Grill several times and have had great experiences.This time we were pushed upstairs to sit in the kids section and while I sometimes behave like a child, I know how to be an adult. If I had young kids I'd be relived to sit in such an area that made you feel like you were at Perkins or Denny's not Bluefin Grill. There were screaming children and a man positioned at a table for 10 right adjacent to us who was FaceTiming and the topics included diagnosing the video-present relative with Pneumonia to talking about when they'd see them next. The conversation respectively lasted 15 mins of loud dining-room inappropriate conversation. Our meal was downed to relieve ourselves of the unexpected and off putting atmosphere, with a spaced out waiter and missed appetizer. The food was good but be sure if you have well behaved kids who are teens and up to get seated on the main level or pay the consequence. read more

Absolutely the worst service I've had in years. After one hour, our appetizer came out at the same time as our entree. We were at a tiny table and i asked the waiter where he planned on putting the food since the appetizer should have come out first. He said "You're the one who sat at a small table". What?!! It took an hour and a half to get an order and even with a reservation we got stuck outside on the patio where we were the only ones there and the wait staff did not really attend. Dined here during Covid over Labor Day weekend. We didn't make reservations and were unable to dine outdoors on the lake view deck. We were able to dine outside in a small seating area off the main entrance. The service and food were excellent for a busy weekend dinner rush. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with avocado, tomato, mozzarella and greens on a ciabatta roll with aioli sauce. The avocado was perfectly ripe and the bread was fresh and tasty. I ordered fresh fruit as a side, the melon was perfectly ripened. Desert was turtle cheesecake. It was amazing! Food was delicious, service was friendly and fast, flies outside were a bit irritating but that's to be somewhat expected when dining al fresco. read more

We knew going in that they, along with just about every other restaurant and business, was short staffed so adjusted our expectations accordingly. Husband had the walleye plate and liked it. I wavered back and forth between the Brussels sprouts and Cauliflower salad and the veggie burger. Chose the burger but the salad might have been a better choice. There are two kinds of veggie burgers (three if you count the mass-produced frozen kind) and this one was a dry meat like imitation. I prefer veggie burgers that taste like veggie burgers! The toppings (pepper jack cheese, peppers, greens and avocado were the only thing that saved this burger for me. If you like newt imitation burgers you might have a different opinion if this one. The house made bbq chips were good but very salty - I was parched later on. The service was as attentive as could be for a short-staffed establishment and we didn't wait unreasonably long for our food. read more

Never had wild rice with blueberries nor a sweet dill sauce on the walleye The waiter was good although I received my soup minutes before my dinner. One of the complainants is there were two window seats open and when we were being taken to our seats I asked for one of them. The hostess stated that the server was over booked and we would not get waited on quickly. So we took the seats she planned for us. We sat next to a family with extremely loud kids that never shut up. Really distrusted the enjoyment of a nice dinner. But to top it off our server was the same server that waited on the window seats. What a disappointment with such a hostess in a nice restaurant. read more
