TLDR: OK sushi joint in a spot well suited for dining pre-or-post seeing a film at the Santikos Palladium. Stopped in for dinner prior to catching at film at the Palladium. Could be a nice, intimate place for dinner though we were seated next to a pretty loud group. Service was fast and friendly, which was appreciated. The meal itself was decent, not great. Tried the masago and snow crab off the sushi menu; the former was good, but the latter strangely dry, as if it had sat out a little too long. An appetizer portion of the shrimp and vegetable tempura was very good. Particularly puzzling was the unagi roll. Not only did each piece of the roll fall apart, it was doused with so much eel sauce that it was hard to taste anything else. Looking back on it, I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Of note was the tempura banana dessert, which was a sort of Japanese take on a sundae! Putting crisp, hot chunks of fruit up against sweet vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup (not berries as the menu claimed) was...well, interesting. I probably wouldn't order it again, but it is novel. Average it out and it's a decent place, though I would only come again if I was in the area for something else to begin with. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. We love Bluefin! Been a few times already and each experience has been great! The wait staff are enthusiastic, energetic and very welcoming. The food...yum! Dad had Pink Lemonade and Hubby and I both had the Red Sake Sangria. The sangria was a huge drink. We started with the Seaweed Salad and the Mix Green Salad. We enjoyed the Wagyu Hot Rock on our previous visit and decided to have it again. It is a steal for $18. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura Bento. We shared the Fatty Salmon, Escolar, Yellowtail, Unagi Sashimi, and the Negihama-Toro Roll. Hubby and I had the Ikura Sashimi. Everything was so fresh and the sashimi cuts were thick slices. My friend recommended this place because there is a location in Austin she goes to and she was right to come here again in San Antonio. The ramen was great, nice and creamy broth with chashu pork, I did want it a little spicier but was still good overall. The 620 roll which they light on fire with some alcohol was HEAVENLY. I don't remember everything on the roll but it all went perfectly together. I would eat 2 of them if i could. My friend got the waygu roll which was also very good however I do prefer raw fish in sushi than meat but it had nice flavors overall. The service was nice our waitresses were pretty attentive, and checked on us frequently. There wasn't many people in the restaurant when we went so it was nice and quiet for us. One negative, I did not like their thai tea, it was not sweet at all and after sending it back to put more sweetener, it still wasn't sweet. The ramen was surprisingly good. The egg in the soup is cooked in authentic way. The soup itself is made by real broths. Not like some sushi place use artificial soup powder.
