TLDR: OK sushi joint in a spot well suited for dining pre-or-post seeing a film at the Santikos Palladium. Stopped in for dinner prior to catching at film at the Palladium. Could be a nice, intimate place for dinner though we were seated next to a pretty loud group. Service was fast and friendly, which was appreciated. The meal itself was decent, not great. Tried the masago and snow crab off the sushi menu; the former was good, but the latter strangely dry, as if it had sat out a little too long. An appetizer portion of the shrimp and vegetable tempura was very good. Particularly puzzling was the unagi roll. Not only did each piece of the roll fall apart, it was doused with so much eel sauce that it was hard to taste anything else. Looking back on it, I should have sent it back to the kitchen. Of note was the tempura banana dessert, which was a sort of Japanese take on a sundae! Putting crisp, hot chunks of fruit up against sweet vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, and chocolate syrup (not berries as the menu claimed) was...well, interesting. I probably wouldn't order it again, but it is novel. Average it out and it's a decent place, though I would only come again if I was in the area for something else to begin with. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.
We love Bluefin! Been a few times already and each experience has been great! The wait staff are enthusiastic, energetic and very welcoming. The food...yum! Yesterday there was no wait to be seated in a booth. We had the So Dang Good Roll and it was just that:) the Hot Rock with Wagyu and Scallops was on special so had to try it out. Always fun to cook your meat at the table. My daughter had a curry entree bento box and loved it. Dinner paired with some boba drinks was just what we needed:)
Glad that we came here! Great sushi, fresh and delicious. The riceless sushi was refreshing and "healthy." We also got edamame. They also have cooked food such as ramen and Chinese stir fry, would try next time. Our waitress was very attentive and kept checking in with us. Plenty of seating, they also have a bar table. Would be back!
We came here at Bluefin Sushi and Ramen last Saturday after watching the Jurassic World Rebirth movie at the Palladium cinemas . Food was wonderful . I particularly loved the specials the shrimp Lollipop on the skewers and as always the tempura rolls were on point. The mango boba smoothie was so refreshing and prices were very reasonable. Will be back soon

This restaurant did not disappoint! We ordered takoyaki, chicken wings, and their special shrimp tempura lollipop swirl. The takoyaki & shrimp lollipops were my favorites! We also ordered Ramen and that was delicious as well. We will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. The host was happy and our waiter did a fantastic job! They definitely made us feel welcome. The ambience is casual and inviting.

I was surprised that this place had such high reviews for the disappointing experience I had. They sat me in a dark corner with no natural light and zero flowing air/air conditioning. It took them like 10 minutes to even bring me a water. When I was ordering, the waiter didn't even bother to suggest or help me with the menu. It was beyond hot and the seating arrangement is very awkward and cramp. The ramen itself was okay, very oily and not as fresh as I would've liked it to be for a nice bowl of ramen. They are very unorganized, they asked a table of 4 to get up and move somewhere else to cater to a table of 5. There is quite literally one single waitress for the entire restaurant. I felt bad that she was overwhelmed with everyone, while I watched another woman stand around and just refill waters. In my opinion there are definitely way better ramen spots to go to and actually enjoy rather than here.
Last week, we visited @bluefin_sanantonio for dinner. Happy hour with food and drinks ends at 6:30pm. Yolanda was our terrific server. Dad had Pink Lemonade and Hubby and I both had the Red Sake Sangria. The sangria was a huge drink. We started with the Seaweed Salad and the Mix Green Salad. We enjoyed the Wagyu Hot Rock on our previous visit and decided to have it again. It is a steal for $18. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura Bento. We shared the Fatty Salmon, Escolar, Yellowtail, Unagi Sashimi, and the Negihama-Toro Roll. Hubby and I had the Ikura Sashimi. Everything was so fresh and the sashimi cuts were thick slices. I'm surprised this restaurant is not mentioned more often on the San Antonio Restaurant Facebook page. Worth a visit at The Rim.
Came to Bluefin based on Yelp reviews. Overall, this is a nice place with fresh fish. We ordered a roll and two appetizers (calamari and crab/cheese roll.) This was plenty for two with moderate appetites. The roll was very good, fresh but a little spicy for our tastes ( may want to ask for mild if the waiter/waitress mentions there's any heat. The crab/cream cheese and scallion roll was excellent!! The calamari was just ok, too much breading as opposed to a tempura. The seating was plentiful (inside or outside), everything was clean and the staff efficient and very polite!!
The cocktails were absolutely great tasting and good portions for the price. The sushi rolls were also good and tasted fresh. They had a lot of ramen options, more options than other ramen restaurants in the area. Will definitely go back some time to try the ramen. Definitely take a look at the menu before going if you can, because it's overwhelming and tiny writing to fit everything on one paper. After we sat down someone seriously came by every 1 minute to ask if we were ready to order, and continued to do so until we got our food. It was too much but I guess that's better than too little. But we needed some time to look at the menu. It was overwhelming.
4.5/5 stars Bluefin Sushi & Ramen - The Rim, San Antonio Bluefin at The Rim is one of those places that quietly becomes your go-to without you even realizing it. The service is always warm and attentive, and I love that I can usually walk in and grab a table without much of a wait--a rarity in this area. The menu is loaded with amazing options, whether you're craving sushi, ramen, or just some solid appetizers. Every time we come, our table has to start with the shishito peppers, spicy garlic edamame, and that perfectly crispy tempura (seriously--save a piece or two to drop into your ramen for a flavor bomb). Their cloudy sake and beer selections pair beautifully with everything. If you're plant-based or just into vegan options, you'll be pleasantly surprised. I didn't need to alter much--just added a bit of hot chili for heat--and the dish was flavorful and super satisfying. Bluefin gets major points for that. You'll also find hand rolls, sashimi, seaweed salad, and a range of ramen bowls, and the team is happy to customize if you ask. I do wish they offered a few more topping options to build your own ramen, but I've still left every bowl happy and full. Bonus: they have TVs, so I was able to catch some of the basketball game while sipping sake--huge plus. And shoutout to the staff--when you ask for extra hot sauce or ginger, they absolutely deliver. No skimping here. Whether you're in the mood for a quick solo dinner or a casual hang with friends, Bluefin is solid. Definitely a Rim favorite.
The pricing here is very reasonable. We ordered 5 different rolls, some of which we really enjoyed! The SA Spurs roll was definitely my favorite. We ordered the 620 roll that comes on fire and subbed out the salmon for tuna on top. I personally did not care for this roll too much. The vegetable tempura was good but a little small. I'd say it's a good size to split between no more than two people. The staff were all very friendly, and live music was being played on the weekend we went.
They have really good lunch specials and combos. The food is always fresh and the nigiri you can tell is good quality. The prices are fair for the food and the service is always great! They have great deals. Recommend read more

We stopped in for a quick snack around 2:30pm on a Saturday. They asked for our drink orders and they were out of almost everything in the house. No draft beer on tap. No decent wine. Had to go with mixed drinks which were ok. The menu is vast and has a few things that looked unique. Their ramen selection might be the largest I've ever seen. We ordered a couple sushi dishes and everything was good. It wasn't the best bait we've ever had but it wasn't disappointing. Their portions were a bit small but the entire bill was under $100. I had a girls date with my daughter and this restaurant was recommended by our nail tech. I didn't see many reviews so was kind of hesitant but let me tell you....YOU GOTTA COME TRY THIS RESTAURANT RIGHT HERE First, it's super cute with wall mural Japanese paintings. The bar area is super cool with sight to see the sushi being prepared. The server her name I think was Stefany Diaz was the real MVP!! She too car of us by explaining the menu and telling us about the most requested rolls. We tried the TX Waygu hot plate was soooooo good ! I think this needs to be a plate in itself but with more meat and a side of rice. It comes as an appetizer and I ended up ordering this plate twice!! It comes with the hot plate , meat, three different sauces and butter. I ordered white rice on the side - thus my suggestion to make it a plate Then we ordered the 620 roll and it was sooooo good! Definitely my favorite one but a close competitor is the TX Waygu RollAgain these two were our most favorite. We also ordered the hamachi and it was okay, too sweet for me I like it more citrusy / ponzu than sweet but that's just my preference. So so good, don't miss out on happy hour. Our ranking: 1st So Dang Good roll 2nd All in One 3rd Yellow Tail roll 4th crunchy California I probably will skip out on the crunchy California for either Philadelphia or spicy tuna next time. Bluefin Sushi has quickly become one of our favorite spots for affordable and delicious lunch specials. You really can't beat their deals--three sushi rolls for just $20 or a bento box packed with a variety of tasty options for only $15. Most of the sushi here is fresh and flavorful, though I did have one piece of white fish in my Nigiri that wasn't as fresh as I would have liked, so I ended up skipping it. That being said, the overall quality is great, and we've always left satisfied. On our most recent visit, we tried the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen, and it was a pleasant surprise--it was flavorful, hearty, and definitely something I'll be coming back for. The vegetable tempura is also a standout, especially for just $5. The service at Bluefin is always on point. The staff is attentive and friendly, consistently checking in to make sure our drinks are refilled and that we're enjoying our meal. The restaurant itself is clean and comfortable, with plenty of seating, so you never feel cramped. I'm usually hesitant to try food around The Rim, but I'm so glad we gave Bluefin a chance. If you're looking for good sushi, great value, and solid service, this place is definitely worth a visit! read more

We visited San Antonio for 3 nights, guess how many times we ate at this Bluefin location. 3 TIMES haha. Our kids kept choosing to come back for dinner. The Tonkotsu Black ramen was so flavorful and rich. Another favorite was the spicy salmon tacos! The staff are also so sweet, kind and efficient. Even on a busy Friday night the food came out relatively quickly. read more

The fish was fresh and the wagyu melted in my mouth! This restaurant was newer, so there were kinks to be ironed out (sake bombs not ready yet), but the staff was very attentive and presented alternative options! My friend recommended this place because there is a location in Austin she goes to and she was right to come here again in San Antonio. The ramen was great, nice and creamy broth with chashu pork, I did want it a little spicier but was still good overall. The 620 roll which they light on fire with some alcohol was HEAVENLY. I don't remember everything on the roll but it all went perfectly together. I would eat 2 of them if i could. My friend got the waygu roll which was also very good however I do prefer raw fish in sushi than meat but it had nice flavors overall. The service was nice our waitresses were pretty attentive, and checked on us frequently. There wasn't many people in the restaurant when we went so it was nice and quiet for us. One negative, I did not like their thai tea, it was not sweet at all and after sending it back to put more sweetener, it still wasn't sweet. My friend got the banana smoothie which was ok as well, you can taste the syrup they use. Food is 10/10 though! read more
