I went with my friend downtown walking around and stopping at places that appealed to us to sample dishes. Kaedama was on the way. Actually this is the first time I see it. They had a line of few people ordering. The guy at the register was very patient specially my friend doesn't eat pork. We opted to try the chicken one. It was really good! It hit the spot! I would like to return and try the Tonkatsu. We sat at the bar and I was watching them charring the pork. It is a small restaurant not too big and I do love the concept of open kitchen. This was so tasty. I really recommend the Yakisoba Noodles with pork belly. It has so much flavor. The staff were also really helpful.

This place is downtown, not really convenient for me but I love that they validate parking for 2 hours at the Rand parking garage. Inside, there isn't much character, very plain which I'm sure that's what they meant for their vibe, I'm assuming. Ramen was delightful...but expensive. Recommend adding shiitake mushrooms since they marinate it and it's so flavorful! read more

I always like to try something twice before reviewing it, the consensus is that it's okay. Not the best no the worst either. Both times go the tonkotsu the first time it was flavorful, protein was perfectly cooked it was delicious paired with a Coke Zero it was good. Second time it was not protein was undercooked and broth was tasting off comparison to the first time. We paired it with some edamame and tbh that was one do the worst edamame's I've have and it's hard to mess up edamame. It was overly salty and hard to eat even with adding the lemon probably dont recommend getting that. I think it's still worth à try if you haven't tried the ramen. There for sure better ramen spots in the city if that's what your looking for, but this one is not bad just not great. Stopped into Battleship after landing in San Antonio and caught their happy hour. $5 starters and $2 draft Sapporo? Yes, please! The Battleship Salad was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned, making it the standout dish of the visit. The Beef Dumplings were also excellent, with great flavor when paired w the sauce though it was a bit heavy on the topping of onions. The Crab Croquettes weren't my personal favorite due to the very soft, creamy filling, but the crispy panko exterior and yuzu tartar sauce were well executed. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Small place close to the hotel I'm staying at in downtown. Saw it as I came in and wanted to try cause I liked the name. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Very small menu, 4 ramens and a few apps I got the tonkotsu ramen and added corn and a side of the black garlic butter, or cannonball as they call it Soup was delicious, full of flavor and filling. Had all the usual ramen accoutrements and the butter added a nice flavor. They serve it on the side and told me to add a little at a time. That was a good call, as I only added about half of it to my soup. All would have drowned out all the other flavors Service was friendly and efficient. Unless you are in desperate need of ramen, I would skip this spot. The ramen is overpriced and undercooked. The broth is good but the balance is missing with the ingredients. The collard greens overpower the entire dish (and it's in all the ramen options I believe), so all you're tasting is that (which is quite good, but not what I'm expecting when I'm having ramen). The croquettes are also mushy on the inside, and although you can taste the crab/seafood flavor, it has a super strange texture that's almost akin to being raw batter. Ordering happens at the front counter, and there is open seating. Your order is brought out to you. 2nd time going. First time was the second day after the grand opening. Again the food was SUPER. This time much faster service to order. But, there were 7 seating spots that had not been cleaned so customers could order and then sit. We had to wait 10 minutes for a spot. They were packed, but need to focus on ensuring tables are clean, so your new customers can get seating quickly. Also, the customers next to us had "service dogs x2" next to us on their laps and the dogs heads on the table. We are assuming they were emotional support dogs, not service dogs via their behavior and lack of disapline. Came by after hearing lots of recommendations for this ramen spot in downtown San Antonio. The location is almost in the middle of SA and they do validate 2 hours at a garage near by which is nice since lots of downtown spots don't always validate. The concept reminds me of ramen shops in Japan where you order at the counter and then the bowls come out to you but the staff was very nice. I ordered the miso ramen and the staff let me know it came with picked corn which I was glad she told me since I'm not a pickle fan but I subbed it for the roasted corn. The broth was very flavorful. It is a vegetarian dish so I added an egg for some protein. They are known for adding collared greens to their ramen but I didn't think it added much to the flavor profile. When a new ramen shop opens up in San Antonio... of course I have to try it I was super excited to have variety added to this city. The service was quick and excellent! The restaurant itself was clean. I respect the wide seat base of the wooden stools so I can sit without falling off. The ramen itself was good. I really enjoyed the broth from the double miso. I thought the collard greens added an interesting spin on traditional Japanese ramen. The pickled toppings were a good complement to the salty broth. Late night ramen is perfect! Especially if you're staying downtown so you don't have to worry about parking. That's the only downfall if you're driving in. The broth is premade but it's delicious! Not heavy but still has umami! The croquettes are delicious and freshly deep fried! The tartar sauce is so good! I would get it again just for that! The yuzu basque cheesecake is sooo good! So excited to see a new ramen spot in downtown. As soon as I walked in the vibes were great honestly nothing like I've seen here in San Antonio. I ordered the spicy tonkotsu ramen and it was good. I've had better but the broth was really flavorful the pork was good and the chili oil definitely took it up. I really like how they have a bar seating area looking out to the street plus plenty of seating inside. There's also a bar facing the kitchen which I loved because you can actually see your food being prepared. I was honestly pretty disappointed with this place. The food was just not it, and I wouldn't spend my money or time here again. My friend ordered the miso ramen and said it tasted like straight tap water, which is a huge red flag for broth. The broth was lacking flavor, and that's supposed to be the heart of the dish. I ordered the tonkotsu, and it threw me off because it had collard greens (or something similar) in it, which just didn't belong and ruined the flavor for me. The broth on mine was also lacking in flavor. Overall, the experience was underwhelming. Both soups lacked depth, and it just wasn't worth it. Definitely not a spot I'd come back to read more

I can't believe this place has been only open for 8 days and their restaurant runs like a tight ship, pun intended. This was the best Ramen Shop In all of San Antonio! The sides were absolutely amazing, had the crab croquettes with the yuzu tartar sauce, these were ridiculous and I don't even like tartar sauce. Then had the macaroni salad, I couldn't stop eating it. I had the tonkotsu ramen, it was silky and smooth and on point. This place looks the part. This place feels like it would be a staple here in San Antonio. Unfortunately the flavor is just not there. Not sure if this is a fusion ramen place but it seems like it is. I got the Tonkotsu which seems like they are NOT consistent with the preparation. I thought I got the wrong bowl because from what Tonkotsu ramen I am used to, it should be in a white broth. As you can see from my picture It's pretty much transparent. I even got on here to check out other people Tonkotsu and saw some with the white broth and some that looked like mine. Anyway, the signature collard greens did not go well with this broth and the whole thing had a hit if that off pork ( if you know, you know). The spicy oil saved the bowl for me. Their oil and butters are the drivers if you want flavorin in your bowl. Tbh, the vibe of this place is so good that I would live to see a ramen tatsuya take over so it can be a staple food destination with the Leo's hideout acres the street. Staff was great, vibes are good, food is a 3 at best. Go for the Instagram picture, then head over to Leo's for some good pizza. Makes me sad that I have to keep going to the dirty Kimura for good ramen here in SA. read more

The appetizers were definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered the dumplings and pork belly buns, and both were delicious. Looking back, we should have just ordered more appetizers! The ramen, however, was a huge disappointment. The broth felt like it was missing depth and the flavors just didn't come together. It lacked the rich, balanced taste you'd expect from a good bowl of ramen, especially at this price point. Overall, the appetizers saved the experience, but the entrees didn't justify the cost. So unimpressed with this. The best thing we ordered was the beef dumplings, which had us thinking the food would be killer. The ramen broth was watery, the noodles were clumped together and did not even resemble traditional ramen noodles, the toppings were so eccentric and non traditional, it was like cabbage only cabbage on top. Plus you only get HALF an egg? for the ridiculous prices? The pork in the ramen was so gross! Flavorless, over/undercoooked? I mean what even was that.... I personally wasn't a fan of the hyper minimalist ambiance, but I do think it works as a concept. Now the bad - The Ramen was just not good. The execution was fine (noodles cooked just right, presentation was excellent) but there was one overarching flavor on both ramen dishes we ordered: Collard Greens. If this establishment is committed to using collard greens in its offerings, then they need to up the flavor on the other items in the bowl. This is a hidden gem in downtown San Antonio. We sampled a lot of different things on the menu and each of them was a surprising delight of flavor. The menu is not huge, but it contains an unusual combination of items that one rarely finds in a typical ramen house. In fact, this is certainly NOT a typical ramen house. We especially liked the crab croquettes and battleship salad with tasty ginger sesame dressing. The macaroni salad was a fun appeal to the American palate with a unique twist. Chicken Sapporo ramen with chicken meatballs was absolutely great and the broth was excellent. My first time at Kaedama. While a colleague had called it just ok before I went there, I gave it a try anyway. I'm glad the staff let me know the broth of my first choice was a bit fishy. I don't care for fishy taste. So I chose the bowl of tonkatsu instead. The bowl looks nice. The broth with a some chili oil was good BUT the noodles were super gummy. I let staff know and they made me a new bowl. Much better the second time until I took a bite of the egg. The soy soaked egg was over powering. I ate about half the bowl and was done. Let me tell you I usually finish a bowl of ramen. I wonder how the rest of the menu is.‍ It is a bit loud for me but maybe others are fine with it. read more
