Met up with some coworkers for dinner and to take advantage of the market at the cherrity bar was having that night. You do have to be seated by a hostess if you want to have food. We were treated to the charred edamame to start with. Everybody loved the flavor. It was definitely a great alternative to just salt. For my meal I had the vegetable tofu. It came with large chunks of mushroom. It also had half a hard-boiled egg. The broth was tasty. It was definitely a good serving size. The restaurant is located at the cherrity bar. Cold days, are the perfect excuse to visit Kuriya inside The Cherrity Bar! This amazing restaurant serves Japanese style small plates, and ramen bowls. They also have a program where they support different local nonprofits every month and you can vote for your favorite one. During my last visit I ordered their charred and spicy edamame and tonkatsu ramen. The edamame was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I've ordered a few other times in the past and it came a little too toasted, so it can be a hit or miss depending on the day. The tonkatsu however was absolutely perfection. The broth was packed with flavor, the pork was very tender and the flavor in the mushrooms was amazing. They also have some pretty stellar specials throughout the week, like $6 Miso Ramen for lunch on Tuesdays, $4 Highwheel Draft Beers and $6 Palomas on Mondays. Also, it had less ingredients than their normal ramens. Service was as expected and no major complaints in that regard. My friend and I were looking for nearby Ramen Restaurants and we stumbled upon Kuriya. I was intrigued by how the food was presented and had to give it a try. When we arrived we noticed the sign right away and were excited to try out the tasty food. We got to the restaurant at about the time they opened and they greeted us right away to a table. There is a great divide between food and ambiance. They combined Kuriya with Cherrity Bar, I was super confused, repurposed and very mismatched. Parking is available on the other side of the street and walking up to the middle reception area was interesting. Keep in mind, I kept an open mind and expected decent ramen. Soooo, walking up to the outside reception asking if we want to sit inside or outside, opting for inside, they sat as to the left and first available sitting tall table right by the entrance. I'm kind of vertically challenged and did not feel comfortable eating ramen on a high table DX So we were seated and left to fend for ourselves by the host. Looked around a bit and found so much seating areas lower to my level ~ sat down, waited for about 7 minutes and were greeted by our server/waiter. Menu, btw is digital QR. We knew we want to try ramen and went with our usual Tantan Ramen and Tonkatsu, to make sure our opinions remain unbiased. Tan tan ramen was good, better and lighter than the previous place, enjoyed the grilled broccoli, most of all. Same goes with the Tonkatsu, better broth, but the chashu didn't have a great char or color... kinda missing a bit of the umami. This place is absolutely delicious. When I arrived at the restaurant, I thought the set up was so cute and trendy. We sat outside even though it was cold, but the heat lamps helped. I arrived late to the party and although there were not many people at the restaurant to begin with, I had to ask for a plate, silverware, and a napkin all on different occasions. If the waiter had remembered that themself and the service weren't so slow even on a slow night, I would've given a 5 star review. Food wise, I would definitely come back. We got the Belly Bao appetizer that resembled a Bao taco on a rock slab; great presentation and flavor. For my entree I got Tonkotsu Ramen and it was also great and not spicy. The mushrooms were marinated in the most delicious sweet marinade before being breaded, and then skewered paired with a spicy Mayo dipping sauce. Next time I may just order those for a meal. Mushrooms are cut into huge, thick slices. Was not a fan of the cut. It was another layer of the soup that was throwing off my senses. Theres "skin" around the tofu. All the apps were ok nothing to write home about but the kaarage were soggy and no crunch and it was in a pulk of oil :( the gyoza had a crunch skirt but the gyoza it was ok. I got to say that the tonkatsu ramen was very flavorful but it was quite salty. The noodles were chewy and a good texture and the char siu was decent. And as I'm writing this it went from 3 stars to three stars because it was really salty. Also it should be noted that if we wanted to make the tonkatsu spicy or add spicy to it that it would be an additional 1.00 it's not much but neither was the amount that we got. First off, thank you to the server that clarified to that lady complaining about there being kids at the bar. This is a restaurant/bar and nowhere does it say children are not allowed. We had a party of 9 total people, 4 of them being kiddos and someone was making comments about why we were allowed to come in with them. Just for that alone, I'm giving this place 5 stars. The food was good, the charred edamame was amazing!!! We had the wings, sliders (which were the only not great dish as the bread became rock solid after a few minutes), tonkotsu ramen, yakisoba, and tantanmen ramen. I liked that the tonkotsu had a different hint of spice than what I'm used to tasting. It's a very small place, so if you're here with a bigger patty do expect to wait at least 30 minutes. read more

I also ordered an extra side of the pork shoulder, which was about 3 small pieces for $3 more. Unfortunately it was very chewy and not good. Additionally ordered the side of the spicy sauce which added another level of flavor to my soup. My total came out to $28 w/ tip!! The place is so hipster and trendy! We were so pleasantly surprised by this place! We came here for ramen but I'll admit, I haven't had any great ramen in a long time so my hopes were just not very high.
