I had an older gentleman as my orthodontist. Him and his wife both worked through braces with me. I was in my braces for 3 years with them and was constantly finding them talking down to me and being aggressive when working on me. Nothing was really ever fixed I went to another orthodontist who proceeded to ask me who the hell did what they did to my mouth and asked for names and proceeded to tell me what they did was NOT in practice. I was forced back into braces for another 3 years. Over these 3 years I had mentioned this first encounter with braces to many dentists and even oral surgeons all of which had nothing but negative things to say and some of which even had their own similar experiences with them specifically. They all warn of the orthodontists at bluefish and I do as well NOT THE PLACE FOR BRACES JUST ASK AROUND. They are the bottom of the barrel and extremely disrespectful. Bluefish is unlike any office I have ever been to. The level of personal attention, commitment and care to my 3 girls is above and beyond. Their team of girls is just so amazing. Yesterday my daughter fainted & fell as we walked into the office due to dehydration and exhaustion and these women ALL came together to give her so much support, love and medical care. Ive always loved this place and have been meaning to write a review about it, but after this event I just HAD to stop and write a review. So thankful for the amazing staff at Bluefish! We needed several replacement retainers after ours got cracked. Bluefish is not the orthodontist our kids used for braces, and we were basically strangers, asking for help with something that would not bring much of a financial return on their end. I requested a first appointment for my daughter on the website and received a reply via email. I was given an appointment for her, a couple months in advance. The day before I realized I didn't get a reminder call, so I was worried something happened with the appointment. I showed up anyway and was told there was no appointment for her on the schedule. I was then asked to wait until they finished a meeting and someone would come out and talk to me and get me another appointment. I said, since I am missing work now, I would prefer to call to make another appointment. I was told that if I called I probably wouldn't get through. So I said i would go to a different dentist. Totally unprofessional and not respectful of my time. Very very disappointed and would never go here. read more

Not a fan at all! The doctors themselves are nothing special - not "noteworthy" I guess. No particular issues anyway, but I'm not in love with them either. Their office staff and organization is horrendous though. Major billing snafus, confusion when I call. They don't answer their emails (although they apparently are willing to send emails out, just not bother to read responses). They never bothered to bill me for 6 months, then informed me I owed them $800 and "oh, by the way we aren't a preferred provider for that insurance anymore", so now I have TWO out of pocket expenses for cleaning "overages" instead of just one. I originally selected them for their orthodontist services, but they have never once offered any significant advice regarding ortho services for my 11 year old who is OBVIOUSLY going to need braces at some point (small mouth, big crooked teeth, cross-bite, etc). It's as if they don't even want my ortho business. Did I mention the long waits? My kids had an appointment for cleanings, and they were there for close to TWO hours! This last time was the worst, but they are never in and out under an hour 1/2. Most of the time is spent waiting - not having actual cleaning work done. Even my husband - Mr. not-bothered-by-this-sort-of-thing guy said "find a new dentist!" So, that's what I've done. read more

My son has serious sensory issues and developmental delays and hates having anything in his mouth. He screams and throws a complete meltdown tantrum at the dentist's office. Bluefish has a "quiet room" for kids like this and the staff is prepared for him when we come, knowing how he will act. They are quick and efficient with his procedures, and they have put him on a schedule so he can come more often than 6 months to get used to being there. Dr. Cate is the worst dentist and orthodontist you could see. Her brackets don't stay on, and she treats everyone like crap. Not to mention she talks to everyone as if they are a baby, and then "graduates" people from her office if they don't show up or can't make the appointment. Also, you can't get in for weeks at a time, and when you actually do get in to see her! She automatically assumes you just need a prescription and then expects you to come back weeks later for a procedure. WORST and RUDEST bitch. Do not GO HERE. On the plus side, her dental assistants are amazing. Ashley is the best! If they could take her place this office would be a five star, GO TO. But unfortunately she is very unprofessional and is more about money than the actual comfort of her patients. read more

We had great experiences up until the last two. Now that the parents have to wait in the car (which I totally understand) there is zero communication. I still don't know what exactly is needed for my son's teeth. The first visit, my son was in the building for an hour and half but I trusted them at the time. When he got to the car his face was puffy and he told me he had been crying the whole time. I wish I would have been told he was struggling. The next day he went in for a filing. Again came to the car crying. When I asked him what happened he said they put a mask on his nose that made him feel funny and he felt like he couldn't breath. Turns out they used Nitrous on him. I had no idea, I would have declined that treatment especially because I wasn't with him. It was a very upsetting experience. When people take your little guys away from you, you're really putting trust in them. They take your child in the building and give them back with very little information. If your child is too young to tell you what happened I wouldn't recommend going here, the staff will not tell you much if anything. read more

I went here a few months back for an ortho consult for my daughter which I was happy with. I then decided to follow through with the procedure which was going to cost me $1000. I called to schedule an apt for a cleaning and expander put in for my daughter. When they originally thought I was using my old insurance through my husbands company they had 2 or 3 apts available now but once the receptionist found out I had OHP she put me on hold and then quickly told me she had no more available apts for 8 weeks and wasn't taking apts. She said I could go on a wait list if anything came up. I get that they get paid less with my insurance but really? How unprofessional. read more

My kids actually like going to the dentist! They do a great job giving us options to prevent cavities and treatment options if there is a cavity. The staff is very nice overall and allow us to make monthly payments when needed. They can be booked out a ways, but highly recommended. read more

I am absolutely disappointed in the lack of communication with this office. Unfortunately they will not inform you they don't take your type of insurance and you'll be stuck with a bill you can't afford. My children had been patients of Bluefish for years. We have private insurance through my employer and my children have OHP as a secondary. They have always taken both insurances no problem. My daughter recently needed to come in for an exam and a procedure. When I made the appointment I stated that we still had the commercial insurance and OHP. No problem. My daughter went in for the exam and the procedure was scheduled for two weeks later. We arrived for the procedure and they gave me an estimate of $50. I questioned this asking why there would be a charge since we are doubled covered with OHP as a secondary. Shelby at the front desk said "Oh. Ok. It will be $0 then." She crossed out the charge wrote $0 and I signed it. No problem, right? Wrong. I recently received an invoice of $90. And another of $115. Thinking that it was a simple oversight on their end I called to question it. They said "Her OHP expired at the end of May." I informed them that they were incorrect and that we had recently renewed our insurance, there wasn't a gap in coverage, and I have documents to support this. Then I was told "Oh, she has been assigned to MODA, we only take Advantage. You need to call OHP and have it switched to Advantage and see if they will backdate the effective date to July 10th which is the date of service." I called OHP. When we renewed coverage they assigned us automatically to MODA, rather than the Advantage that we had always been on. I requested they switched the managed care from Moda back to Advantage and was told that they were unable to back date it to July 10th. I called Bluefish to explain this to them and asked why I wasn't informed upon making the appointment and checking in to the appointment that they they didn't take the "type" of OHP that we had. They proceeded to tell me that they verify insurance as a courtesy and it is my responsibility to know what insurance we have. I said I do know what insurance we have but how is it my responsibility to know that they only take one type of OHP and not another and why I couldn't have been informed of this. Frankly I would describe them as crooks. Had I been informed they didn't take the certain type of OHP we had been assigned to I would have called prior to the procedure and easily had in changed. I told Jackie to cancel my children's upcoming cleanings and I would be taking our services elsewhere. This is clearly a lack of communication on their end, considering I told them multiple times my child had OHP and I was never informed that I needed to have the "kind they take". So now I'm going to have to pick up odd and end jobs to try to cover this expense as we live on a very tight and strict budget. Absolutely not fair to me, my children, or our family to be affected this way over their failed lack of communication. read more

Dr. Cate has gone above and beyond for our kiddos. She really takes the time to make them feel comfortable and her expertise with treatment is outstanding. I've been taking my son to blue fish for a few years. The staff is great! They're so good with children and really put my son at ease when he goes. He's had to have work done but still isn't afraid of the dentist because of how great they are with him. The dentist has always put his needs before expensive procedures and has changed her mind on procedures accordingly, which is a breath of fresh air. The front staff is also wonderful and have gone above and beyond in helping me with insurance stuff, scheduling, payments, etc. Love this dental office and wish I could go here myself. read more

Dr. Cate went above and beyond for my daughter. My 1month old daughter was in need of a procedure on her tongue so she could breast feed and get the nutrients she was in serious need of. Dr. Cate was highly educated and explained every detail to me. She spent so much time helping me through the entire procedure and post therapy after. She even came into the office on her day off just to address some worries I had. She is unbelievably kind and truly cares about her patients and community. I am one of "those moms" so the fact I trust Dr. Cate with my babies says so much. I would recommend anyone with a baby who is tongue tied to see Dr. Cate. Or anyone with concerns for their children's dental. She in knowledgeable and caring. read more

I absolutely love this office and their team. Kate is an amazing dentist and makes sure that my daughter is comfortable and talks through dental care step by step. Sarah is also amazing. Front desk is always there to help with any questions. They got my daughter in ASAP because she needed dental treatment right away. If you like your dentist always running 25 - 45 minutes late then this is the place for you. Sure the staff is friendly but the device is definitely not worth the wait. They attempt to run it efficiently but stack way too many patients in at once. It is run like a factory. Go somewhere else where you are not treated like cattle. read more

I don't know what some people expect out of a dentist .My own dentist in Redmond makes appointments 10 months out. Children's dentists in C.O. are even busier. I normally use Bluefish in Redmond, and called them to make an appointment for my daughter, expecting it to be at least six months out. Turns out 5 minutes earlier someone cancelled a morning appointment in Bend for the next day, and off we went. We were greeted right away, filled out some paperwork, and waited twenty minutes or so, fast by dentist's standards. Did they bow before me? Juggle Chainsaws? No, imagine that. Some of these reviews must be from people who've never been to a dentist in C.O. They took x-rays since it had been a couple years, cleaned her teeth, and set us up an appointment in Redmond for sealant in 3 weeks. The dentist came out, explained my daughter has been grinding her teeth (just like her Mom) and said we'd talk later about braces which is what I wanted to talk with them about also. Nobody was rude, everyone was professional. We are on OHP due to my heart problems and my wife being disabled, and it's never made a difference in how we are treated at Bluefish. read more
