We have used Hulsey Environmental Services a couple of times and they continue to provide great service! We called them out about a small leak on our hot water heater - Andy came out same day, found the 50 gallon tank we wanted to replace it with and installed it the next day. We also had them replace our other tank and added a whole house water purifier - this was done at our request, no high pressure sales! I should have written a review after the 1st time they came out - it was shortly after we moved into our house and our septic tank collapsed. Andrew was awesome explaining what was going on, what had to be done and the cost. On both occasions, they are nice people and provide excellent service. As a long-time Gainesville resident I've used Hulsey's since I bought my 1st home in 1986. They were my "go to" plumbers. I've used them for general plumbing and septic tank services for roughly 30 years. Historically, the service was good & at what I considered fair market price. However, I think they've changed. They charged me $475 to replace a donut ring seal on a toilet & did a lousy job to top it off. They had a "kid" call to try to up-sell me on $2000 in water damage repairs for a very minor toilet ring leak over a crawl space. To top if off they made a mess in the bathroom (mud from the crawl space on the floor and walls). They seemed so incompetent that I decided to eat the $475 and called someone else. The 2nd plumber repaired their work for $200. My recommendation - compare prices, you can get better service. I've typically used the larger service providers for scheduling convenience and reliability and was willing to pay a bit more. However, Hulsey did not deliver the goods and I will not be using them again. I don't like dealing with services providers that are only interested in selling me bad services. read more

Plumber was scheduled to arrive at 10am, showed up at 5pm. Said he didn't have the stuff needed to install our bathroom drain. Came back the next morning at 10:30 and left a little before noon. Charged me $185 X 3/hrs (was here less than 2/hrs) and my price quotes was a max cost of $400.... total bill was almost $700. Total rip off. Would NOT recommend. Several yrs ago, I used Hulsey, the customer service & repair was great. I have even recommend them to friends. Sun when we needed a plumber I called them. This time has been a total disaster. We have an outside facet with a cut off valve every winter, we shut it off. Sun when we turned the facet on water flowed out of wall, great a busted pipe. I called Hulsey on Sun spoke with a real nice lady who said someone would call me within 30 min to make an appointment, NO one called me. Mon I called again, the lady said someone was on my way to my house now, I said I hope not I'm not home. She got Cory the manager (he has been NO help & I horrible company representative), he said no they were not, & made an appointment for tues at 10am. I was home by 9:45am, when I got home there was a business card in my door. I called Cory he said they were already there & now at another job, he said he would have the tech call me when they got done, I told him I have to leave by 3pm. When the tech came out, he said they couldn't guarantee they would be done in time for me to leave, he told me it would be $95 today for coming out twice & telling be I had a busted pipe, I refuse to pay for them coming out twice & for something I told them on Sun. I will NEVER use Hulsey or recommend them again. It's very obvious that they have enough business & don't need anymore customers. I have found a new great plumber. We suspected that our septic was having some issues, so we called Hulsey first thing in the morning. Dispatchers: Deborah was HORRIBLE! Honestly, she is the reason that I cannot give them a perfect rating. I found out later in the day that she is a newer dispatcher, but even so - she stated that she would call me back several times to update me about a crew coming to the house, but she did not. When you do not have the ability to flush a toilet or take a shower...all you want to know is that SOMEONE IS COMING! I called her once an hour five times - and still had NO ANSWERS, even though her standard response was "I will find out and call you back." Christine - Now she was AMAZING! She definitely redeemed the company with her impeccable customer service! She was able to find out an answer to all of my questions and kept me on the line while she got me an ETA on the crew coming to the house. Once we had the information from the Hulsey crew, being told that one company was going to come out to pump the tank, but upon finding out they were unavailable she made arrangements for another company to be at the house within an hour. Hulsey Crew: Corky and Brenden came out to the house. They were able to quickly locate our tank, fully assessed the surrounding areas, and determined that the only issue we had was a full septic tank that required pumping. Corky explained that they used smaller companies to pump the tanks, and gave great advice about the maintenance of our septic system. Southern Quality Pumping Services: The crew arrived right when Christine told us they would, discovered that we were missing a filter, and completely emptied our tank. They provided us with a filter that we were missing, and gave some more awesome advice about maintaining our system. Overall, we were pleased with the service provided by Hulsey. Christine was apologetic about our negative experience with Deborah - and outside of this - we would be able to give this a five-star rating. Just a note - when you have a house full of people needing to use the water, and all you want is a CLEAR answer that HELP IS COMING - the stress of that alone can cause more problems than the septic water backup that started the mess. Water heater stopped heating on a Sunday afternoon. Dispatcher said they charge $225 an hour. What they didn't tell me is they charge the hourly rate for travel time to your location. They were over an hour away so had to pay $550 read more

They state they start charging you from the time they leave dispatch through the time that they're there which makes no sense to me I would expect to get charged from the time you start the job very poor quality came was not able to fix it on the day that we requested said they had to come back. We own a very popular and successful vacation rental home on Yonah Mountain. We have guests that pay good money to get a five star experience. Our current guests reported there was no hot water. I called Jonathan to see if he could get someone out there today to diagnose the problem and fix it. He and a plumber came right out the same day and found a wire had burned out on our water heater. They rewired the water heater and fixed the problem within an hour or so. Our guests were very happy to have hot water again and we were very happy as well since we cannot give our guests a five-star experience without hot water. I highly recommend Hulsey plumbing/Hulsey environmental services for any plumbing issues. We actually had to use them last week as well for a clogged shower cartridge, which was also preventing hot water from getting to our master shower. We will continue to use Hulsey environmental services as our regular plumbing company. They were professional, quick to respond, and very knowledgeable. read more

We called them out to our house for a leaking toilet and sink. They fixed the sink in 30 minutes and tried to charge us $450!!!! After we complained they knocked it down to $220 but NEVER fixed the toilet. Said we need a new toilet and it would cost $700!!! So we bought our own toilet from lowe's for $150 and did it ourselves. NEVER AGAIN!!!!! They charge for standing in our driveway smoking and going to the store to get food. They got out of their van and left food on our driveway as proof! RIP OFF!!! read more

I was charged $750 for replacing a pressure relief valve - 2 hrs of work. The invoice provided no detail, and their materials cost was probably $25. --Prior to this work we requested an approximate price to fix a leak at a commercial site parking lot. The Hulsey representative sarcastically stated the cost would be "between $2000 and $100,000. This should have been a clue about their business practices. --On the date of repair, upon arrival we again requested a price for the job from the company representative. We were given an hourly cost but NOT a final cost or estimate---"I will give you a copy later". Once the work was started and the leak was located the representative asked if we "wanted him to fill in the hole" (like we had a choice) and AT THAT TIME the rep stated the cost to that point was $10,000!! It was then that they provided a "PROPOSAL" for over $16,000 to complete the job!!---FOUR TIMES THE QUOTED HOURLY RATE!! --We have contacted the Hulsey offices 4 times to get an adjustment to this bill and I was told Johnathan Hulsey would contact me yet no one has returned my call. ADDITIONALLY, this leak is STILL not fixed even though Hulsey insists that it is. --This cost is OUTRAGEOUS and constitutes PRICE-GOUGING!! After the fact, I read "Yelp" reviews and found that Hulsey has done this type of business practice before--refused to give an estimate for a job until the work is partially completed and then charged an outrageous amount to finish the job. Scare Tactic Upselling. I had a septic backup on a tank that had not been serviced in about 6 years during an extended period of heavy rain. I was fortunate that Hulsey was able to come out on a Sunday and pump the tank. Hard to spend $500, but necessary. However, as the crew was finishing up, a "supervisor" pulled up in a truck to come discuss my "problem" with me. He informed me that my field lines were the cause of the back up and needed to be replaced. Not sure how he knew that without any scoping, snaking or whatever, but okay. He quoted me $5,600 to replace and update the field lines! He then told me that we only had 6-7 days before the tank filled up again which would cost an additional $500 to pump on top of the field line repair. After a couple of sleepless nights, I decided to roll the dice and see if it was in fact the field lines. Here we are nearly 3 months later and no problems. No telling how many people without the guts or knowledge to call B.S. have been duped by this scare tactic. Shame on you Hulsey. Never use them for anything, unless you don't like your money and you like dishonest people. read more

The next morning, I called around 7:15 AM and was quite clear that I was looking for someone who could come out as soon as possible, as my water line was gushing. I was told the on call plumber would call within the next 30 minutes, at most. It is now 10:30 PM and I have yet to receive a call. Our septic tank backed up and after calling they told us they could not get out that day but would put us on the list for the next day and someone would call us back. When we did not hear from anyone we called. The girl on the phone said she would have someone call us back. An hour later nothing. We have called 6 times total. The girl on the phone was very nice and did not know why we were not called back, but this was said to us each time we called (must be the standard answer). It is now 4:33 in the afternoon and we still have not heard anything! Very frustrating to say the least! Very disappointed! read more

water heater not getting hot. tech showed up and pushed the starter button 3 times and said I needed a new tank and quoted me 1500.00. I told him it was only 5 years old and he said it was spent. then he told to too go buy a new tank and he would install for 500.00. I paid him 95.00 to just leave. I researched my tank (a GE) and called GE 800 number. they walked me thru relighting process which failed and sent me a new pilot assemble for the unit which I installed and it works great. I have a business and the toilets were backing up. Thinking possibly a septic issue, I called and asked for their help. I repeatedly asked for pricing and was blown off every time. Even after they got here and diagnosed the problem as grease buildup, I asked and they still wouldn't give me an answer. They would say, "it depends on what we have to do". Again, I asked for a ball park or hourly rate, or some idea and they just plain refused. This HAD to be fixed immediately, so I stop asking and let them work. They were here for less than an hour. Since they were done, I wanted to know how much it was going to be and I was told they couldn't say that I would be billed. WHAT? Two days later I had the same problem. Called them back. They came out and again I asked several times if there was going to be additional cost since they didn't fix it the first time. I was again not given a direct answer. They had to use a jetter to remove a blockage in the drain line. They were here 2 hours. I didn't bother asking for a bill at this point. A week later I get two invoices totaling over $1100!!!!!!!! I called their office 4 times over the next week, left a message each time, never got a call back. Finally 2 months later they call demanding payment. I was able to speak with someone and explain that I felt I was overcharged. She took 200 off the bill and said it was all she could do. I ended up making payments as I didn't want to get taken to court which she threatened to do. BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU CAN'T GET A PRICE UP FRONT CALL SOMEONE ELSE. THEY WILL OVERCHARGE YOU AND YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. They clearly take advantage of a person's immediate need. read more

I have a small restaurant in Lavonia GA Last summer I was contacted by a representative from this company and entered into an agreement for this company to provide me with a container and pay me for my used cooking oil with payment due after each quarter. I am now overdue payment for over two quarters and no one with the company will talk to me. I either get transferred to a voice mail with no follow up or I get put on hold with a hangup after a long wait The last several times my container has been emptied it was after hours when no one was around. What is going on with this company? My payment from the previous company was not a lot but it was better than the nothing i get from this company.
