Our first day included every Louisville distillery we wanted to visit: Peerless, Rabbit Hole, Whiskey Thief, and Michter's. Along the way, Mark even surprised us with a stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum for a quick visit, which was a fun bonus. At lunch, Melanie surprised our group by stopping in personally with thoughtful gifts for each of us. That level of personal attention says everything about how they run their business. Mark later took us to Watch Hill Proper for dinner, and it was an exceptional way to end the day. Day two took us into Kentucky horse country for an unforgettable tour of Buffalo Trace. Anyone familiar with bourbon knows how difficult it can be to get in, yet Mark somehow managed to give us access that included several private, behind-the-scenes looks. We continued on to Four Roses and Woodford Reserve, completing an itinerary that was everything we had hoped for and more. My wife surprised me with a trip along the Bourbon Trail for my 40th birthday, and it ended up being one of the best experiences I've ever had. We toured with a group of friends, and one of our days was led by Mark. Simply put, he made an already incredible trip exceptional. Mark arrived early, was completely prepared, and had every detail of the itinerary dialed in. He knew exactly how to maximize our time at each stop, making sure we got the most out of every distillery without ever making us feel rushed. Thanks to his planning, we were even able to stop and take pictures in front of few distilleries that were closed that day--something we never would have thought to do on our own. What really set Mark apart was his knowledge. It seemed like every road, town, and landmark we passed had a story behind it, and he shared interesting history and local insight throughout the day. His level of service was second to none. At Buffalo Trace, he rounded up everyone's bottle purchases and carried them back to the bus so we didn't have to lug them around during the tour. Anytime we received souvenir glasses from a tasting, tour, or cocktail, Mark would clean them, carefully wrap them, and even find gift bags whenever possible to make sure they made it home safely. Those little touches made a huge difference and showed how much he genuinely cared about our experience. Not a minute of the day felt wasted. Everything flowed seamlessly, yet we never felt pressured to move on or stick to a rigid schedule. Toward the end of the day, we had a very tight window to get back to our Airbnb before heading to dinner. Without hesitation, Mark offered to wait while we dropped off our purchases and then drove us to the restaurant. That level of flexibility and customer service is rare. I can't say enough good things about our experience with BBT. If you're considering a Bourbon Trail tour, don't hesitate. And if you have the opportunity to request Mark as your guide, do it. This may sound silly but this is actually one of the most difficult reviews I've ever had to write. Generally reviews are fueled by bad experiences or even good experiences of a nature you'd expect from a service you requested. In this case I'm trying to put into words how our guide Mark exceeded our expectations not only in service but in personal qualities that are difficult to quantify. Melanie (the owner of BBT) was more than accommodating when I contacted her months in advance prior to our tour. She had the ultimate Kentucky knowledge and best suggestions to create the most ideal itinerary the day of the tour. I left it up to her and our guide Mark to plan our day aside from one distillery (Beam) we wanted to visit. We were picked up in a pristine SUV full of snacks, waters, electrolyte sports drinks and good company. In short, Mark provided us with an experience I can only equate to being led around by an old friend who's showing you his old stomping grounds. He knew every nook of the trip, had insight to every distillery we visited and clearly had made personal contacts with distillery staffers that paved the way to a wonderful experience for us. Mark filled in the gaps between destinations with his vast knowledge of the area and his jokes which ran the entire gradient of quality. We never felt rushed or hurried. We were always provided the best insight and the best information and it was delivered in the best way possible. I cannot over emphasize how much I appreciate the expertise, professionalism, care and charm of BBT generally with Melanie and Mark specifically. Hands down...BLUEGRASS BOURBON TOURS is the ONLY tour to pick! We ran into numerous people over the 3 days that we were on the Bourbon Trail and each time we were asked a simple question. "Where have you all been to?" We'd start listing the numerous locations/destinations and their jaws would drop! Honestly, Melanie Lopez (Owner/Veteran and you got it woman) delivered the best 3day trip we could have asked for. We called on a Sunday evening, on a snowy NE weekend, expecting to get a message for a call back during business hours- SHE PICKED UP and even though she was sick, she proceeded to talk to us for 1/2hour+ about what we'd like on our tour. Our crew from Boston consisted of 4 seniors and 3 of our 35+ yr old "kids". We were all so beyond pleased with the itinerary that she put together for us. The pricing was reasonable and each day included a lunch stop at some amazing places or were picked up for us to enjoy at some of the locations. It was a suggestion to book dinner at Watch Hill Proper, (must do) we loved it! Not only did we visit 12 distilleries and the Louisville Slugger Museum, we also went to Gainsborough Horse Farm and stopped at Church Hill Downs for photos and breakfast where horse racing legends eat. Our fabulous tour guide, Mark, was exceptional. He had us laughing and on time over the three days. The other tours look good, but the white glove attention to detail from Melanie was above our expectation. 10/10 for this wonderful tour company. read more

For a more relaxed experience, I'd recommend sticking to three stops at most to fully take in the distillery properties and perhaps enjoy a cocktail on-site. Our group of six decided to celebrate my 40th birthday this summer in Louisville, exploring the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. I was planning a trip to the bourbon trails to celebrate my 50th birthday. I contacted several tour companies, and Melanie was the first to get back to me and I knew I was going with Bluegrass Bourbon Tours. Melanie and I talked for 45 minutes on the phone like we were old friends. I told her what distilleries I was interested in, and she took care of everything. This was one of the very best tours we ever took ( and we travel a lot)! Melanie was terrific in organizing the tour based on our interests. Ensured that the tour would included stops and visits in distilla that my husband wanted to go to. Even had a mini birthday cake for him as this trip was to celebrate him. The stop at the Godolphin stables was an amazing experience. Don't let me get started about Mark our guide/driver... I will not comment on his knowledge and intersecting presentation of what we were seeing (that is his job)... what makes him unique is that by the end of the day we were saying goodbye to a friend. Highly recommend Bluegrass Bourbon Tours. Melanie was very professional and knowledgeable. We booked a tour with another couple for our anniversary. A bit last minute, so many distillery tours were booked up. After discussing with Melanie the distilleries that were on our list, she came up with a great plan and was able to get us on the tour we wanted. We had a great day and a lot of fun with our tour guide Ed, who was incredibly nice and knowledgeable. We were able to get some great bottles and had a blast.
