This was my first experience doing a Bourbon Tour in Louisville via a tour excursion. Whatever Bourbon Excursions is doing to take care of their customers, well, they are hitting their target! The level of customer service provided by our tour guide, Bruce Raque, was truly exceptional and went above and beyond what one might expect. He went out of his way to give us some history of distilleries and the area, as well as showing us some local spots that the locals love. We really appreciated all that he did for us, from picking us up at our hotel, visiting local distilleries, taking us to a great BBQ lunch spot, and dropping us back at our hotel. We visited Louisville to experience Bourbon and boy did it deliver!!! Bruce Raque from Bourbon Excursions was my Bourbon Angel. Not only did he arrange our tour but he was also our driver and tour guide! He took care of us from start to finish. There was six of us in our group and we all had an excellent time. I'd give Sharon and Bourbon Excursions 10 stars if the rating scale reached that high. From the start, she put my three compadres and I at ease when she said, "Nothing you can say or do will offend me." She recalled a time when a tour customer lost his pants. At our worst, that we can remember anyway, we all dozed off during a ride to the next distillery. Sharon primed us for tours of the James E. Pepper, Buffalo Trace and Whiskey Thief sites -- and even added a stop at the Bulleit gift shop. We worked in an easy lunch, walking distance from one of the distilleries. It was reasonably priced to boot. By tour's end, we wanted Sharon to join us for a "slushy" while listening to music and watching other tourists having a blast, but she stuck to her Coca Cola. If her guiding and driving weren't enough service, the photos she shot and shared with us were great. They recorded all four of us together. Wow! These guys hooked us up with a great experience! I brought in some clients for a quick turnaround and this group took care of all of the details! We showed up at 11am, got to tour 2 distilleries, and enjoyed a private tasting before flying out in the afternoon! We can't say enough nice things about Joey, Gary and Bourbon Excursions! We have toured the world and this is a First Class tour group. We planned our pre-Christmas trip last minute and they made the entire experience so easy! We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel. Gary/Joey had arranged an awesome day of touring Woodford Reserve, Buffalo Trace and a private tasting! We had a private group tour behind the scenes at Buffalo Trace. Lunch was included and Joey suggested an awesome local BBQ spot that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Bourbon Excursions went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing day! We were even able to stop along the road and pet Thoroughbreds and take an off tour scenic route through Louisville to see amazing old historic homes and Churchill Downs! Gary was amazing; he put together a solid distillery tour for us, first starting at Woodford, followed by lunch at Staxx BBQ, and then a tasting at Buffalo Trace. Throughout the entire day, he was flexible to what we wanted to do, when we wanted to leave, etc. He also gave us fantastic recommendations for dinner and helped provide us with a reservation for our group of 12 at Jeff Ruby's, which we wouldn't have been able to reserve otherwise. The best day! Gary knows everyone, tell him what you like and let him build your perfect day. With two teenagers in the mix, we weren't the easiest itinerary but Gary was two steps ahead of us. We all toured Woodford (great tour and tasting), enjoyed lunch there at the cafe, and then rolled to Buffalo Trace for a tasting and "Gary tour" which meant seeing a couple of spots that he knew how to access, and then heading back to Louisville downtown for a date worth DeDe at Taste to try all of the bourbons we have heard about but could never purchase back home - a highlight - especially with the teenagers directed by Gary to the boutique ice cream place next door, then off to Copper and Kings! Follow this plan! Copper and Kings was the most fun of all of the tours. Gary senses that the teenagers were tiring of the tour so he showed them the way to a really cool artisans market nearby. Bottom line: affordable, safe (don't drive this on your own), connected (Gary knows everyone), fun (Gary is everyone's best friend from college who has been studying history since graduation), and comfortable (waters, luxe transport, and fancy van). Spent the week in the hospitality suite hearing complaints about tour companies, this one does it right! read more
