They charged us $800 just for blood work and another $200 for iv fluids which they hadn't given the 4+ hours we were there!!! They waited until we said we were going to take our puppy home to give him IV fluids. Also they didn't entail what the $800 fee was going to cover. All they said is that it was a "critical care exam." Whatever you do, please do NOT bring your pets here unless you want to get scammed out of $1000 while they do nothing but continue to ask you for money. I wish we would have never came here at all. I took my dog to this facility in a Saturday, as my Bet has already closed, for difficulty urinating and pooping. I had to leave him there because at that time they were not letting anyone in for reason of Covid-19. I call in sick from work to make sure he gets the best care and not rushing them to do their evaluation. I get a call that he is fine and that he may have An intestinal bug causing the small amount is seepage out of his rectum. A week later the test result was called to me and negative. They claim they did an ultra sound of his bladder to check for a blockage, Even though I had to ask about it when they were going over the paperwork for discharge, and they said it was negative. My dog never got bet better, he was making some urine and bm's stayed the same. I took him to our vet and by X-ray they could see a mass intruding his whole abdominal cavity. If you palpate the abdomen you could feel the mass as well. I had the unfortunate need to bring in my fourteen year old fur baby, Morgan, to BluePearl on June 22, 2021. He was in the end-stages of complete renal failure. This was the first time I had to make the impossible decision of humanely closing his chapter in this life. The staff at BluePearl were absolutely wonderful. When I arrived, he was seen immediately and treated by the most empathetic team anyone in my situation could ask for. I am so grateful for the Avondale staff, and they were there with me every step of the way. They allowed me to spend some final moments with my Morgan, and I was with him for the final procedure. The staff allowed me space and time to grieve, and provided me with options for his remains. I chose to have him cremated. They provided me with a beautiful cedar box a few days later with the certificate of his cremation, a beautiful and personalized card, and additional counseling literature. My dog had her first seizure today 6am so i rushed her to the ER only for her to be seen at almost noon. The purpose of me taking her there was because no clinics were open but if only i knew they'd see her hours later I would have never gone. $200 to the trash only for An T. Nguyen to tell me it's normal to seize. My dog seized for 3 minutes straight and was extremely disoriented! Mind you the whole time I was in the waiting room I did not have my dog with me or got put into a room with her at all. Did not see her until after I paid. Near $700 for just bloodwork when my clinic charged $250 when i left. Other people got put into rooms immediately with their dogs while i got no update until i had to ask for one myself for hours. Receptionist were alright until they are laughing out loud at their conversations when people are walking in with deceased dogs and people are concerned over their pets and these ladies are just laughing. My invoice was reaching $1.5k for blood work, a 1-2 minute consultation and xrays that was never explained as to why it's necessary. near $200 for a 2 minute consultation and if your dog needs CPR that'll cost you $1,000 posted to not attend blue pearl on my business accounts and many said they always hear bad things about them all i did was take my puppy for some care at the nearest animal ER and got the worst care ever. read more

We brought our very sick cat to Blue Pearl last week. They could have tried a few things to save her, at an upper limit cost of $3500, which was required to be paid in full beforehand. Even though Fiona was nearly 18 years old, we wanted to try. Two hours later, the doctor called, and said it was not hopeful, maybe a second night of hospitalization would help. My husband and I spoke and realized that we really had little hope, so we opted to go pick up our baby for home euthanasia. We were told that a refund would be forthcoming the next day. Nothing happened, and a day after that I had to call to remind. Other than that, we were very pleased with the treatment received, and the honesty of the facility. They called immediately with blood test results, and we appreciated that. They took the best care of Fiona that they could under the sad circumstances. Everyone was very kind and polite. Unfortunately my faithful friend arrived with no heart beat. I was devastated! But the staff made it comfortable and where so caring. I deeply appreciate what they did. I was taken to a room and the veterinarian came and told me they couldn't do anything. But what followed was very comforting. They patiently explained my options. Brought Geo to us when my wife arrived to hold him one last time. When I picked up the ashes, Geo was given to us in such a caring way. Our pets are our kids they rely on us. On the evening of Oct 19,2023, I hosted a ladies bunco group in my home. In order to keep our 2 doodle-mix dogs quiet but social, I gave them each a fresh beef marrow bone, which I have given to almost all of my 11 or so dogs throughout my life. This time was different. My Chloe sat very quietly on the floor while the 12 women were engaged in bunco. I thought to myself, "boy, she is really enjoying that bone ~she won't let go of it!" After all had left and I got ready for bed, Chloe still had the bone in her mouth. Something odd ~ so I stuck my fingers in her mouth to find that her lower teeth were embedded / stuck inside the upper part of the inside bone! I was afraid to try to get this long bone out as I thought I may hurt her jaw by opening it too wide. I called Blue Pearl Avondale in a slight panic and drove down at 11:30 PM while my Chloe lay in the back with this bone attached to her face. I was nervous and scared for my little girl. But immediately they knew me from my phone call; a woman from the medical center came to take my very friendly, excited little girl into the back hospital room. I was so scared while I filled out the forms for BluePearl, thinking about what could happen. Before I finished the paperwork, a man and the woman who took Chloe, came out with my very wet-faced, happy dog who was giving kisses to these 2 angels. They told me "had the canine tooth been stuck inside the bone, the outcome would have been more severe." The 2 doctor's aides (sorry to not remember their positions within hospital) were able to wedge it out of her mouth without damaging her teeth or jaw. So, after all was said and done, No more Beef marrow bones for my pups and I would definitely come back to Blue Pearl Avondale, AZ for my emergency vet needs! My husband came in for an emergency after my dog had been attacked. She was in bad shape and I'm not sure anything was even done besides bandaging a wound. She was quickly taken back and triaged, but I'm almost certain after that she was left lying cold, alone, and dying while we were trying to figure out our finances. We couldn't afford $2000+ dollars that were being quoted to us and they wouldn't do anything to help her in the meantime, or allow my husband to go back and see her until they released her. She had lost a lot of blood and We were prepared to put her down, but were told she had a good chance at survival if we took her home, and were given discharge papers recommending to care for wounds, resume eating and drinking as usual, apply quick stop to wounds that may have persistent bleeding, and provide medications prescribed to prevent infection and for pain. Within 30 minutes of my husband bringing her home to us, she died in my arms. It was traumatic. I understand these are pets, saving their lives is different than bringing a human into an emergency room. And it's not their fault we couldn't afford to pay out of pocket what they were asking. But their poor recommendation made an already horrific experience that much more painful for us. I would have much rather paid to put her down peacefully than to have gotten my hopes up, and then had her die the way she did. Whatever money we did pay while we were there was for absolutely nothing and we feel 100% taken advantage of. So sad. read more

January 7 I was diagnosed with stage four lung and sternum cancer with no possible remission and just a prolonging of life diagnosis. February 4 I took my 11 year old male Akita, who provides service and support to blue pearl because he had been vomiting for 24 hours and was lethargic, he was diagnosed with gastritis which could be very painful and was sent home that evening with an anabiotic and an over-the-counter medication. I was informed that he may have some diarrhea and when we went to go put him in the car where he normally would put his front paws in the car & be ready to go home he refused and when we assisted, he had diarrhea all over the parking lot which was filled with blood and mucus. After several calls from his discharge, I explained to them that I am unable to get him to maintain fluids, eat or even take his oral medication because his mouth is so dry from the constant diarrhea. I called again around 10 PM and explain that he's not getting any better as the tech spoke to the doctor I explained that I had already gave my last, thousand dollars, and he appears to be worse than it was when he came in and he needs to be hospitalized. However, I have no more money. I asked for help and support, and when the tech came back on the phone after speaking to the doctor, she reported since hospitalization is Not an option. She tried to give me a discount on my family member, my Akita to be euthanized. I am appalled with the level of care and inhumane support. I explained that last thousand dollars that I gave took away from my chemo and I beg for support just for them to supervise and observe overnight because I am unable to do with the amount of strength and fatigue. I had from chemo earlier that day, and I was met with will put your dog down. What type of facility is so inhumane that would put down the only support dog a stage four cancer patient has. How dare you guys. I will never trust any level of care from your facility again. The sad part about it is that you guys play on peoples love and emotion for their pets/family members for your own monetary gain and you guys should feel ashamed of yourself. My dog is still alive, but only because of the quick action of another vet. I am very sorry to say that I feel I have no other recourse but to write a negative review. In the past, we have had excellent service at this location, but because of a recent incident, I will never take any of my animals to this animal hospital, and I would never recommend going to this location if you have any other choice. We brought our dog in after a day and a half of vomiting up all food and water and listless demeanor. He is a 1 1/2 yr old husky with normally boundless energy who was not interacting with our other dogs or getting up and moving around much. We were very concerned that he may have eaten something toxic or (more likely) eaten something he couldn't digest, like a sock, underwear, or a towel-- all of which we have caught him eating before. We told the vet tech this at triage, but because his vital signs seemed normal, we were pushed to the end of the line. We were FINE with this. There were obviously much more urgent emergencies throughout our 7 hour wait. When we met with a vet, it was late in the evening. We were treated kindly and thanked for our long wait. We specifically mentioned our concerns of poisoning or an obstruction. My husband even made a joke about our dog's love of socks and underwear. She ordered an IV for his dehydration, x-rays and bloodwork. It was over $1300 in total, which we were willing to pay. Several hours later, after getting the results, the vet told us that there was no blockage and he probably just had an upset stomach. We agreed to pay for anti-nausea meds, and they sent him home with us, telling us to feed him a bland diet and keep an eye on him for 4-5 days. This was 2am on Wednesday morning. We brought our sweet and very sick dog home. He continued to behave listlessly, vomit up all water, and refused any attempt to feed him any kind of food, whatsoever. After 28 hours, I called and asked what we should do. At this point it was Thursday early morning and our dog had not kept any food down since Sunday morning. I was first asked if we had been feeding him only a bland diet, to which I responded that he was still refusing all food and not keeping down water at all... still. She said that he should be reevaluated, but we would be charged another examination fee. She also informed me that the shift change was coming up at 7:00am, and recommended I come after that, and that there would likely be a wait of a couple of hours. Judging by the condition of our dog at this point, we chose to take him to another vet. We requested all bloodwork, records, and x-rays be sent to the vet. To date, he has only received the bloodwork, so we paid for x-rays again. Our dog was in surgery almost immediately with TWO intestinal blockages and a perforation. The vet said he could tell from the original bloodwork that there was an infection and could also see evidence of a blockage in the x-rays. He was also severely dehydrated. When they got him opened up, he said that our dog would not likely have lived another 48 hours, more likely less than 24. Today is Tuesday, and our dog is still in recovery at the vet because of the infection and the trauma of his surgery. I understand that vets are humans and after a long day dealing with multiple pet emergencies, something like that could have been overlooked. However, this was our dog and an important part of our family. My husband called and explained what happened, and YES he asked for our money back. We normally would have no problem paying, but as something this major was overlooked, we feel that restitution is in order. Four days after my husband's call, they responded that because "due care" was taken, they will not be refunding our money. I'm hoping that our story will give people pause when deciding where to take their animals. I saw vets & vet techs spring into action for animals being carried in at the brink of death, so maybe this is still a good place if you genuinely have to get to the closest emergency vet as fast as possible; however, if you have enough time to sit in a waiting room for 7 - 10 hours, then take a few minutes to research other emergency vets in the area who may have better definition of "due care." read more

I want to thank everyone who assisted us yesterday with our baby. We rushed him in because his back legs stopped working within a matter of 20 minutes. They immediately took him back for tests. They then called us back shortly after to talk about what happened to him. Unfortunately it was not the outcome we wanted, but they explained everything clearly to us and we made the decision that was best for him. They allowed us to be with him in his final moments and even after to allow us to say goodbye one more time. They did not help my sick dog. A stabilization plan for $1300 .. he was in the same condition as we brought him. I would just HIGHLY suggest you take your animal to an animal hospital. They pushed care credit and asked my "budget" they heard my budget and suggested uthinization and maricopa county shelters, I also requested the X-rays from what they seen & it was never sent over but I instantly got the X-rays from arrow before I even left the plaza. Just take your animal to the hospital for animals. After leaving arrow animal hospital he's in better condition and they kept him for a few hours. It took about 3 hours for the vet to see my pet and start treatment. Please have more vets on staff at all times. Whenever I called, they were more than happy to update me on Oliver's progress. Thank you. The cost is very expensive, however they refunded me about $800 for services they thought they were going to need but didn't need or use. I felt as though Oliver was in excellent hands and he made it through a couple of potentially deadly medical conditions. I called the next day not being successful at getting the IV into my cat as you can imagine, I asked if I could come up and just have one of the vet techs put the IV in her back, the first person I talk to you said yes no problem no charge, come to find out it's $51 to have a vet tech do it for you. My cat was having difficulty using his back legs. I made an appointment at my regular vet but they couldn't see him until the next day. When I got home from work, my cat couldn't even stand on his rear legs, let alone walk. I called my vet back and they told me to take him to BluePearl, an emergency vet. Since I was very worried, I took him there. It was something like $115 to see the vet. I understand, it's an emergency vet, not your regular vet office. A tech came to the waiting room and "triaged" my cat. They said he needed a pain shot to relax him as they said he was in distress. They took him to the back. An hour or more later they called me back for a consultation with the vet. He said that he wanted to do some blood work and take some X-rays to assist in the diagnosis. They also wanted to test for Valley Fever as that could cause the issue. They said to go home and they would call me when it was time to come back. I get the call two hours later and go back. I go back and they tell me that it's $1,000 for what they have done so far. The emergency fee, x-rays, examination, blood work and Valley Fever test. I asked about the pain med and they looked puzzled. I explained that the tech said he would be given a pain med since he was distressed. No pain med was given. The vet says he's diabetic and he recommended follow up with my regular vet. He said the Valley Fever test was sent out and they would have results in 10-15 days. They would call me with the results. He also recommended I take him to a neurological vet and have an MRI done as the problem was neurological. The estimated cost would be $3,000. Then another injection was given at $45. I asked if the diabetes could cause the issue with him not being able to walk. The vet said no it couldn't. I follow up the next day with my vet. They read the BluePearl report and check him for blood sugar. Yep, he's diabetic. They prescribe insulin. I ask if that could cause his issue with not being able to use his back legs. Yes, it can. They also run blood work to look at some potential issues. Since BluePearl did the Valley Fever test they would skip that test. The next day I buy all the supplies and med. Test and inject and repeat every 12 hours. After one injection the cat is walking again, but not steadily. Next day after three injections,12 hours apart, he's walking. Three weeks after my visit I have not received a call with the Valley Fever test results. I call BluePearl and ask. After two long holds and two returned phone calls, the vet tells me that the blood drawn was never sent out for testing!!!! They apologized and gave me a $97 refund. So I still do not know if my cat has Valley Fever in addition to diabetes. Now I have to take him back to my vet and pay an office call plus test fees to see if Valley Fever is also part of the cause of his issues. He is walking better and we are still trying to get his blood sugar under control. What I do know is that I will not recommend BluePearl based on my experience. My cat was there for 5 hours and they did two blood draws and a couple x-rays. They deemed that diabetes couldn't cause the leg usage issue that caused me to take him there to be checked out. My vet said most definitely diabetes could cause the issue and, in fact did. They recommended I spend $3,000 at a neurological vet. Then they neglect to send drawn blood out to the lab to test for Valley Fever. At a cost of $1,045, I expect better service and advise. read more

Had to update our review because we had a second trip to the EAC. Dr Obrien and team took excellent care of our dog after a rattlesnake bite. They called and updated us trough the night and let us know as soon as we could come get her. Thank you for again taking excellent care of our baby. Yes it was costly but it's emergency care, we were refunded for anticipated treatment she didn't need and I feel they are honest in their practice. Previous post: We have never had a pet emergency, so didn't know where to go. We called our vet who was just closing and they recommended this place. Dr Halterman and all the staff took great care of our girl, the whole visit took an hour and a half. We went at about 8pm with no wait to be seen. Our dog ingested something which could be toxic, they really helped her! Be prepared to pay up front the visit fee+emergency fee which is ~$95 total, plus whatever else needs to be done. Stay FAR Away. We've come to this Blue Pearl, as needed, for 10 years- and the level of care and people working has declined to horrifying levels. In October, our dog came in for issues- and the vet (who we actually liked) caught early signs of concerns, so we ran some tests which took almost 2 weeks to get back which at this point our dog was acting happy and fine. So we were on vacation when I get a call from a tech "We're going to set you up for chemo- Your dog has lymphocytes". Ok- what does that mean? "She has lymphocyte cells, so lets set you up for chemo" Ok- but is it just cells and precancerous, does that mean she has cancer, what? "She has cancer. So I suggest you get chemo immediately". Ok well she seems to be doing fine, so I'm not sure... "Well with this- most dogs without chemo live 3 weeks, but if you want to pay for chemo you maybe have like 3 months" SERIOUSLY? Who does that? At first we just thought- ok, one bad apple- provide feedback privately and move on. Since then we've been working with our Banfield vet and a different oncologist. This week we're between treatments, and our dog is having a backslide into severe symptoms and heavily declining. We knew if we could get her through till Monday- we could get her to our oncologist. So I took her back to Blue Pearl- asking for help with her symptoms as she was rapidly becoming swollen, unwilling to walk, refusing to eat or drink, and clearly declining by the hour. This time the person, bordering on rude, goes "well I guess I can run her vitals..." ran her vitals "Her vitals look fine. what you want us to do" Can you help me- I need to build up her strength so she can make it through, and she's clearly in distress and declining- I can't even get her medicine in her because her lymph nodes are swollen. "Well have you tried just shoving it down her throat?" No- her nodes are swollen. Im afraid if I even try to force it- I could make her choke. "Well how would we know- we can't see on the inside. So I don't know what you want us to do" I have never been so horrified of a vet in my life. You are taking care of people's sick and severely injured animals and just telling them to "shove" meds down their throat? In addition, following my gut- I went to a different emergency clinic- and I was spot on. My dog had a very high fever, low blood pressure, dropping glucose levels, and she was barely able to stand when I got there. That was only 30min after I left Blue Pearl- so if her vitals were "fine" how did they change so fast? Absolutely horrible customer service- but even more frightening- is if they act like this to those that can reason and speak- what are they doing to those poor animals? We will never return to this Blue Pearl. Ever. My pets trust me to care for and help them- I need to trust my vet to do the same. read more

If I could give zero stars I would, I took my pup in cause he isn't feeling well and all they did was run a parvo test with a half ass check up... they are a money hungry place that will take your money with a smile on their face and not do anything for it. They didn't even give me any clues to what is wrong just wanted me to spend more money with their ridiculous prices. read more

BluePearl is awful and really does not care about your animal, they only care about money. They lie about what they do to your animals to make you pay and then once you have them send over the report to your vet, it won't even have half of what they said they did. I don't care to pay the money if it's needed, but they should care about the animal while working on him/her and be nicer to the owners who care so much about their pet. Go somewhere else! read more
