We found this place as my group wanted to have a little bit of a fancier dinner while visiting London. We saw their three course menu for only 25 pounds; it even came with a glass of wine! We made a reservation and took the tube over. Unfortunately, there wasn't really a direct bus line that brought us there and had to walk about 15 minutes. However, the view was amazing as we walked along with a beautiful view of the London Bridge. The restaurant was in almost the furthest corner of the whole line. When we arrived, I told the staff I had made a reservation, but they looked at me very confused. The host finally came and seated us. It wasn't busy so it was fine, but my group still felt like confused why they acted the way they did. Anyways, this place has a beautiful view of the skyline and bridge so it was very lovely. We ordered the chicken terrine, cauliflower soup, and mackerel, risotto and sea bream, and the rice pudding and orange sorbet. For the wine, we were just given the option of red or white. The food was amazing. We were super impressed and happy that we were able to do such a meal without hurting our wallets. When we came to pay, I had put some of my coin pounds in hopes to get rid of them, but received even more coins! It seemed that the host didn't have any single pounds and it was pretty cumbersome. I think that the food here was great and amazing, with a beautiful view. However, service was a bit unwelcoming and made us feel uncomfortable. Excellent Sunday Roast lunch. Great outlook over the river. Three had the Roast Sirloin of Cumbrian Beef served with Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Potatoes, Dripping Cooked Onions, Carrots and Gravy. I had the Jimmy Butler's Roast Shoulder of Pork served with Creamed Maris Piper Potatoes , Summer Kale, Burned Apple Puree, Broccoli, Scrumpy and Mustard Cream. Both dishes were exceptional. Blueprint Cafe provides amaaaazing chocolate dessert while you look out over the Thames. I think it is best in the summertime when the top half of the windows are down to give you a lovely breeze while you relax and sip wine with friends. If you book through toptable you can get lunch for two (including a glass of wine) for £16...so it's not too expensive but the food was fantastic. Love love love. Had a trade association event here recently. Definitely a great place to enjoy the Thames from. Great view and perspective of Tower Bridge, and the food that was served also met good standards. The view itself deserves at least 4 stars! Blue Print is on the second floor of what was originally the London Design Museum (now closed and moved to High Street Kensington). We were drawn in by the three course menu for £25 (two course for £20) for a Friday night dinner. We didn't make a booking but were immediately seated at a table by the expansive window. We appreciated the two pea soups courtesy of the chef and complimentary bread basket to start. We ended up going for just mains instead of the set course menu. The flat ironed steak with peppercorn sauce was tasty but seemed to be more oven baked then pan fried? My boyfriend had the veal and was very pleased. Prices are on par with restaurants in the area but the views of the Thames, Tower Bridge, and everything in between is a huge plus. read more

Service was a bit slow and they forgot a couple of basic things like water and coffee that were ordered. I also have a pet peeve when you order a dish and they come out 10-20 minutes later to tell you they are actually out of that dish. Aside from those things, we liked almost all of the items we ordered. We tried the soft cooked hen's egg, baby squid, a chicken dish, and a fish dish. Everything was pretty good except the hen's egg. The egg looked a bit sloppy/lopsided and was not cooked well. The egg whites were a bit too runny and the overall dish was lacking. If you can get a table near the window, the view of the Tower Bridge is a must. read more

I had lunch on Christmas Eve. First of all I didn't know that there is no need to book restaurants this day.(quite different from in Japan.)Almost all restaurants were empty this day. Anyway as soon as I entered this restaurant, I was blown away with the amazing view from the window.This restaurant must be suitable for couples.Night view must be differently wonderful as well. The taste of each dish were all amazing. I quite liked the pumpkin risotto with the rich and a bit salty taste!!! People don't dine at Blueprint cafe for the stellar food, they go for a gorgeous view of the Tower Bridge. With glass windows all around, the restaurant provides a great view of the river and the famous bridge from the second floor. The food was average but, not really that memorable. I had the Market Fish and Raspberry Panna Cotta. The fish was prepared really well, it was delicate and flaky and served with creamed spinach. I loved that they used a cream sauce but, it didn't feel heavy and much of it was thinned out and cut with the acidity of the lemon juice which, I liked. We also had a side of baby carrots which, didn't blow me away. It was simply broiled baby carrots with salt..nothing fancy but, they're carrots so, can't really complain. I loved Panna Cotta usually but, the one at Blueprint wasn't very good at all. It tasted more like greek yogurt with sour undertones which, I'm not used to. It also didn't taste as creamy as it should. I wasn't that big of a fan of this and probably wouldn't order it again. The Toffee Pudding was amazing read more

The view is amazing, even for someone who lives in Shad Thames and can have a wander down to the Thames at night anytime she likes. But the food and service was just a bit average. While all the components of the Iberico ham, melon and honey starter I had were individually of excellent quality, they did not complement each other well. The melon was perfectly ripe and therefore particularly sweet, so the addition of the sweet honey offset the balance of salty and sweet in this dish. The courgette flower and saffron risotto I ordered as my main was entirely too salty, so much so in fact that it gave me a stomach ache. While the menu boasted an earl grey cream to go with the brownie I ordered for dessert, I didn't taste anything even remotely bergamot-like. This in addition to the crumbling mess of a brownie that made up the dish made for a rather disappointing pud. I might return for a good prix fixe lunch deal on the weekend, but I'll probably avoid the Blueprint Cafe for a full-priced meal. read more

Located at the Design Museum on the South Bank, the views from the restaurant are magnificent. I try and eat somewhere on the South bank each and every time I'm in London. This is a Sir Terence Conran restaurant, so its going to be slick and expensive, but its still lovely and on a sunny day a great place for food. Its quite sparse in design, so noise does travel. The starters are typically top notch and the "modern British cooking" that is so ubiquitous at all restaurants where a starter is now equivalent to the taxes on a ticket from STN to MXP. The times we have been (three or four), it has been full of expense account bankers, but things may be different these days. The starters are fabulous, the mains overpriced and the puddings good. I would opt for two starters and a pudding and have a great lunch. read more

Popped into Blueprint to celebrate a friend's birthday. First off, it is a very pleasant environment indeed with gorgeous open views over the Thames. The service was a little unpolished from some staff. For example, when we arrived, the barmen had to greet us and it seemed pretty obvious that it wasn't his job. To be to fair to them, they did let us switch tables to be next to the window, which was really nice. They kept our main meals warm while they did so, so that was a nice touch. The main negative came over my friend's bavette. That's a steak apparently. It is served medium rare and it was tough. She didn't want to make a scene. We pointed out the toughness at the end, and the waiter just said, "yes probably because it's served pink". But he did say he would tell the chef. A very unsatisfactory response. The bill was £80 even tough we ordered from the set menu (with a couple of cocktails). Bear in mind you will need to order extra vegetables so that makes the set menu not as reasonable as you thought. read more

What a pleasant little gem of a place near Bermondsey station - went for a weeknight dinner before going to a gallery opening at White Cube . We had the set dinner - has beer battered oysters and the bavette steak which were both hearty and good. Mom got the duck confit with creamed artichokes which was super on poinT. A seasonal and oft changing menu and of course a killer museum below (Blueprint Cafe is located at the Design Museum) aren't to be scoffed at either. Whether in need of some nosh after taking in an exhibition or simply looking for a quality meal with a fantastic view, this one's definitely worth keeping in mind. read more

Head chef Jeremy Lee is one of my favourites in London! Fantastic seasonal produce, cooked beautifully and served in a lovely relaxed setting with fab views across the river. There are regular lunchtime and evening specials to be booked through toptable which make it one of the most affordable Conran restaurants. We went there because El G loves design and we thought we could ponce round the museum first (we couldn't - the museum inexplicably closes at 5.45pm); I had toptable points to redeem and got 2 free courses (absolute bargain); and it had good reviews. Apart from the manager asking us if we could eat quickly (apparently they panicked as there was a rush on), the service was fantastic and the view as lovely as described Canary Wharf on one side and Tower Bridge on the other. The huge windows roll back in summer and the blue plastic binoculars on each table were a nice touch. It was light and airy and would make a gorgeous Sex-and-the-City-in-Paris style lunch venue. The food and wine were lovely. I had chicken and pork livers with bacon and sage to start which was deep, hearty and smooth followed by a delicious herb encrusted rack of lamb with a startlingly green caper and parsley sauce. The veggies on the side were yummy too tender salty roasted baby potatoes and green veg. It might have been the delicious bottle of Malbec Perdido (£27) but I thought the food was fantastic simple, delicate and well cooked. After a starter and main each, we finished off sharing a brownie with two digestifs and the total bill came to £74 or £37 each - super cheap as I was redeeming toptable points (if you haven't joined by now, you should). AND the tip is discretionary how refreshing. The atmosphere was great especially when it got dark and buzzy later on, and the view was awesome. Tres romantic (get a seat by the window, watch out for enthusiastic wine-pouring by the waiters) and I'd love to go back for a long glam Sunday lunch in the summer. read more

A friend recommended Blueprint Café as a casual restaurant with a nice view. The view didn't disappoint; we were seated at a window table and really enjoyed watching sunset over the River Thames and the Tower Bridge. It was also nice to relax a bit and not worry about dress codes. Since we were here mostly for the view and ambiance, we were pleasantly surprised by the food, which was executed well and presented with attractive, almost whimsical plating. I really enjoyed the mackerel tartare and my duck main was very good too. Be aware however that the portion sizes were quite small; the duck, for example, was barely 5 petite bites. Unfortunately, the positives Blueprint Cafe had to offer were ruined by the poor service. Waitstaff would just disappear for long periods which made for delays getting any of our requests fulfilled. This was likely not helped by an odd waiter switch in the middle of dinner. Additionally, despite the fact that we requested to pay the bill in GBP and the waiter assured us we would, we were instead charged USD. Not only was a 3.5% fee tacked on for this "service", but the exchange rate was also far worse than bank rates. By the time the receipt was printed showing these unwanted fees, the waiter claimed it was too late to reverse the transaction. All told, the restaurant charged us about 8% more than what they promised. We were left wondering if the waiter gets a cut of the fees. Maybe the restaurant figured we were tourists who would never come back anyway, so they should screw us out of some money. Either way, we're definitely not coming back. So basically: 3-3.5* for food, +1* for view, -1* for bad service, -1* for billing issue. read more

Visited with friends for a Saturday brunch knowing they did bottomless prosecco. Opted for their set lunch menu, crab croquettes to start followed by cod on squid ink risotto with chicory. The food was delicious as were the Bloody Mary's they also offered bottomless. Service was ok, they were a little slow topping up the prosecco but apart from that it was a great lunch. OK, these guys get a pair of stars for having a fantastic view of the Thames and such beautiful weather on the day that we stopped in. The truth is that the Blue Print Cafe seems to be associated with the Design Museum, and I had no earthly idea that it was going to end up being a ponderously slow and offputtingly pretentious French restaurant. OK, maybe that's a little harsh, but nonetheless, I felt like I'd been deceived. Maybe some of my opinion was formed after we had finished eating/drinking, and had been simply sitting and staring at each other for some time when the waitress came to our table to swiftly retrieve the salt and pepper shakers without any attempt at interacting with us. His food recommendations along with wine pairings worked out great. The sirloin was one of the best I've ever had. In the future this restaurant will be on my list of must do items when I visit London. Oh and the view... Well... I'll leave it up to you to see how amazing it is. read more

Blueprint Café has one of the best views of the Thames, Tower Bridge and City that any restaurant could hope to offer. The atmosphere is relaxed, modern and tasteful. You know you will have a wonderful experience as soon as you arrive and you are greeted by one of the attentive waters. I have dined at the Blueprint Café a number of times, with family, friends and business clients. All have been impressed with the restaurant, food and service. Running a restaurant of Blueprints calibre and value takes a great deal of dedication and passion. I am writing this review to thank them for the wonderful experiences I and friends have had there and I know I will continue to have. I am always excited to see the menu at Blueprint. The ingredients shine through every dish, and I have always found them to be of the highest quality. You will often find wonderful cuts of meat on the menu such as Onglet or Feather Steak, always cooked perfectly. I found the Baked Salsify and Smoked Eel sandwich to be wonderful. It is one of those simple dishes, cooked with obvious passion which leaves you with a longing for more. Blueprint's moorish baked Salsify, combined with the beautifully smoked Eel perfectly compliment one another. Genius in simplicity and a scrumptious delight! I must admit that I am a confirmed carnivore. I love meat and it is always a joy to find a restaurant which creates dishes from classical, rare cuts of meat which can be almost impossible to find elsewhere. If you have carnivorous tendencies like me then you must order Blueprint's Onglet steak. This incredibly tender, beautifully cooked and presented steak has a flavour which the default steaks of Sirloin and Rump found in many other restaurants can not hope to match. The ingredients, preparation and presentation of the food at the Blueprint Café shines through every dish and will arise a passion for food within even the most jaded pallet. The portions of food are generous too, but not so generous that you won't have room for the next delight. Perfect! Blueprint's wine cellar, while reasonably priced, has a wonderful range of wines. For some time, Blueprint stocked only French wines. Now, I am happy to say, they also have a wonderful range of Italian wines to compliment your meal. Blueprint's service is excellent too. While the Chefs in the kitchen create the food, the waiters and waitresses are very attentive but not overly so. They seem to pre-empt your needs and have this natural ability to appear, do what needs to be done then disappear while being barley noticed. I have always found that Blueprint Café offers great value for money, with a passion for food and service thrown in for free. With the addition of Italian wines to the Blueprint Café cellar, I can not find a fault. read more

After having had a bad experience at this eatery some time back and avoided it for the last year or so, I went for a set lunch with a friend yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find that are back to form. We had a main and a pudding for a set price of £15 very good value for a restaurant in SE1. The quality of the cooking was very high. My pan fried sea bream with anchovies and parsley was excellent and the lemon posset with blackberry topping was very more-ish. Well done, Blue Printable and welcome back! read more

The view from the cafe is wonderful. I doubt that I would go in this restaurant if there wasn't a view. I wouldn't even qualify the restaurant as very good. Food is great but what ruin the whole image of the spot is the not so good, not to say bad service. I've been several times there and every time food came slow and staff was unfriendly. I can't say whether it's alike all the time and I hope it's not. But I'll go there again only because of location and view. read more

Fortunately the great view balanced out the sloppy service and the not-so-great food. The waiter was rude and was not correct about the offer they had on the website so we ended up paying more than expected. We had the mackerel pate as a starter which was good but came directly from the fridge so was a bit hard to spread. For main we had the pork cuts with pancetta and cabbage which was a way too fatty combination and didn't go down at all. Despite it was left on the plate the waiter didn't ask for the reason. The service charge was built-in so I had no chance to express my disappointment at all. read more
