First off I'd like to say that we had really great service. The restaurant was cute. We were seated outside on the front patio. Downfall no tv to watch the football game. We had 6 o'clock reservations and they got us seated right on time. The reason for less stars is that the fish platter was very under seasoned. No seasoning on the fish or the batter. The pasta was also under seasoned as if the pasta water wasn't salted either. The sand dabs were good could've used more sauce. The chowder was really good. The drinks were good. I'm a fan of blue water grill. Specifically in Temecula location. Appetizer plates came out with food smeared on and when we asked the waitress to get us a new one, she did not even apologize and simply grabbed it. Food came out extremely late and we actually never got our complementary bread. Servers were the personnel by the bar and they were not attentive. Excellent place across the board in terms of food quality, selection and service. Wanted to try so many items on the menu but settled on the FIsherman's Platter, which was among the best I've had. The cod, shrimp and scallops were perfectly fried in a light coating accompanied by a superb tartar sauce. I like to eat here. I enjoy the food and I've never had bad service even during these labor-shortage times. I think I've eaten here about a dozen times. But I've never reviewed it. Why? It's a chain restaurant with 8 locations. It has more than 1000 good reviews. What more can I say? I've sat down to review Bluewater Grill more than once, but I always get discouraged because dozens of others have already said everything I want to say, and I am predisposed not to review chain restaurants. So what? I'll add my voice to those thousand happy voices. It's a mile from my house. I love to eat and drink here. Neither I nor any of the people I've been here with have ever been served bad food. I just ate there tonight. At our table we had trout, crab cakes, spinach, white clam chowder, pasta with shrimp and sea scallops, sangria, and margaritas. Every bite was delicious A brief anecdote about the service. A couple of months ago I was at Bluewater Grill with a party of 8 or 10 that included my 4-year-old granddaughter, who (like many 4-year-olds) is very into dinosaurs. I pulled our server aside and told him that I planned to order "Stegosaurus soup" and hoped he would take it in stride. And that I wanted a bowl of clam chowder that the person who brought it to the table would announce as stegosaurus soup when they put it down. No problem. On 18 April, we went to Bluewater Grill. I had fish and chips. My wife had a lobster tail. The lobster tail was old and my wife didn't eat it all and when she brought it home, they had a smell that's when I knew it was old $66 for the lobster tail. Easy 5 star restaurant. Great service, everyone is friendly and checking on you quite a bit. Food tasted fantastic, fresh and the portions are decent. The sour dough bread comes out hot and with a slab of butter on the side, it's so hard to not get full on it. I got clam chowder which was tasty and very home made tasting the crab cakes were delish and had generous pieces of crab and not a bunch of fillers like other places. My husband got the prawn pasta (looked like shrimp to us) o well, he enjoyed it and finished the whole thing. The restaurant itself is clean and has a nice ambiance. It does get a little loud but it didn't bother me. It is on the pricier side but that is expected for a seafood restaurant. I think it is a fun date night/ girls night spot over a family dinner spot. I love, love, love this restaurant! I love the cool coastal decor that is pulled off so perfectly. The restaurant is CLEAN. The booths are roomy! The server was a doll, (I was at the back of a group so I didn't catch her name! )The busboy was even super friendly! We were there on Sunday at 12:30PM and it was relatively uncrowded. Surprisingly, there was ample parking at that time -always a plus for seniors. I had the Combo -shrimp taco and clam chowder. Both were excellent! My one friend ordered the crab salad sandwich and I was really regretting not ordering it- it looked sooo good! My other friends got a combo chowder & green salad , and another got a Crab Louie salad & all were happy with their meals. They serve the BEST warm sour dough bread,too! Our server told us it was unlimited, & who doesn't love that? I will definitely eat here again! I regret not catching our server's name because I would definitely want to sit in her section again. Excellent service. After an afternoon of winetasting, this was a perfect end to the day! Food was brought out fresh and hot. We had the Calamari appetizer which was very good, excellent New England clam chowder, the Fish and chips entree along with Calamari steak entree with Au gratin potatoes and sautéed green beans. Had family come in to town that requested fish so searched Yelp and decided to try this place. We have not been to this location since it had been Fish House Vera Cruz. We easily made reservations online and when we arrived found a parking spot in the large lot right next to the restaurant. It's been so hot and we walked in and even though the door was open the air conditioning was going full blast. We sat at the bar for a drink. My husband ordered an IPA and I had the Pilikia margarita, spicy. The rest of our party arrived and we were given the option of indoor or outdoor seating. We ordered the oysters and Misoyaki Butterfish, Black Cod. Both items were fresh and delicious and we ate every bit. The other couple shared the Tuscan artichoke Rockfish and the chocolate cheesecake. They said their food was delicious. I enjoyed the Blueberry Vanilla Kombucha they had on draft and I am looking forward to coming back during Happy Hour soon. read more

What a fantastic meal. Pleasant environment, not too loud. Wait persons were friendly, attentive and made sure all was well. But the real star was the food. Deciding what to choose was not the easiest task. My wife chose the halidut, walnut encrusted with asparagus and scalloped potatoes. We have had nice dining experiences at their sister restaurant so we gave Bluewater Grill a chance on our last trip to Carlsbad. The ambience is nice and the service staff were attentive. My spouse had the paella special and I had the salmon. Both were over cooked and lacked any flavor. We were both very disappointed. Solid fish house. All of their dishes are delicious and they have a pretty wide menu. The clam chowder was extremely rich and creamy. The fried calamari steak was awesome, and all of their dishes were well-made. Service was amazing, but the dishes were definitely on the pricey side. I was really hoping for for some good flavor and seasonings, it was pretty bland, especially with a $28 price tag. Mussels weren't washed well either as they were gritty. Hubs had the lobster roll and was satisfied, but said there was a lot of extra bread. Group ordered the calamari which was chewy, we had the steamed clams too and those were pretty tasty. We came from Northern California and wanted to try a local seafood restaurant. Appetizers: - Ahi poke: 4/5, standard ahi poke but a little bland - Oysters: 5/5, cant go wrong with oysters, super fresh and didn't have any sand or sea water taste in it - Seared Scallops: 3/5, was really hoping for more here, could barely taste the jalapeño aioli and the scallops were almost rubbery - Manhattan / New England clam chowder: I was torn between both, one being a more tomato soup chowder and the other being a creamy white chowder. The menu had a "local tip" to get 1/2 of each, so I did. Totally not what I was expecting.. The tomato (Manhattan) was poured on TOP of the White (New England chowder) so it was kinda hard to taste them separately as I had to plunge into the tomato broth to pull the white soup out. I feel like this could've faired much better if it was poured sided by side or in two separate bowls. Meals: - Lemon Pepper Mahi Mahi: 5/5, super yummy, came with scalloped potatoes and sautéed spinach on the side. - Prawn Linguini: 4/5, also super yummy but possibly on the saltier side. Service: This is where the 4 stars became 3 stars. When we got there we were seated by a very sweet hostess. Shortly after our server came and asked for our drink order. About 5 mins later he came to drop our drinks and notified my boyfriend that one of the beers in his flight was out of stock so he quickly went to replace with a different type. He brought back that singular beer and I mentioned that we were ready to order but he hastily went to the next table where he stood and chatted for 15 minutes before coming back to take our order. As food came out things went well, the table runners were quick with bringing food out as well as picking up empty plates. My boyfriend left one of our forks on an appetizer plate so when our main course came out, I asked her for a fork. She said she would bring it and 10 minutes passed with no fork so I had to flag down another sever for a fork. For a $180 bill, I was really hoping for more. Seafood selection here is impressive, we ordered clam chowders, grilled Spanish octopus and calamari. My friends said the chowder was very good. My octopus came out really dry kind of burned at the ends so I had them redo it. Calamari was good but nothing special. First of all, nice location near the beach. There are lots of indoor/outdoor seating and plenty of shoulder room. Nice, clean beachy, nautical decor. The wait staff are well mannered and professional, and there are plenty of them. Fresh, warm sourdough bread and whipped butter served upon request before meals. A wide variety of seafood and pasta dishes as well as burgers for the beefy palate. We had a group of six including two kids and all our food arrived at nearly the same time. Everything was fresh and hot! Nothing worse than cold food on a cold day! All of ours was steaming hot and delicious. I personally had the fish and chips with homemade potato chips. They were a little overdone but still tasty. The beer batter on the fish was thin and crispy to perfection. The fish was mild and tender. The coleslaw was super fresh and more dry than wet which was a pleasant change from the usually heavy coleslaw you get elsewhere. Overall a great value and will definitely be back. read more

Occasionally a great restaurant will have an off day and that was our experience at Bluewater Grill this past Saturday, August 23rd. Being a retired Chef and having dined at this restaurant many times, I have a feeling when service is not the as in the past, and the amount of time between ordering a bowl of Clam Chowder, and a dinner salad was almost 30 minutes before we were served these two dishes. Then, our choices for dinner were served not even warm, but cool to the touch. When we told our server about the food temperature problem, he returned the dishes to the kitchen and had them completely remade and they were the proper temperature. My biggest concern with our visit to this restaurant was the server not having the sense or maybe it was not having the proper training to express any regrets about the food not being properly cooked. When we paid our bill and left, he proceeded to Thank us for coming in and the standard 'Have a nice' evening, but nothing about our poor dining experience. Also, he did not mention the problem with anyone in management as we were never contacted by a manager Yes, we will dine at Bluewater Grill again as we have had great dining experiences in the past at this establishment. read more

Half Manhattan and half New England. Very unique and super yummy! Split an order of calamari which came with a 1000 island type dip and sweet 'n sour sauce which was surprising but a great combo! Calamari was very lightly breaded... maybe tempura batter? Little crunchy and just right. We decided to split appetizers and a salad for dinner.... Seared scallops with bacon, Maryland style crab cakes, and Seafood Louie salad with claw crabmeat and bay shrimp. Polished off with key lime pie for me and Java mud pie! Service was good... Came with an creamy aioli sauce and a red sweet/sour sauce, not sure what it is exactly. 3. Cedar plank salmon maple Dijon glazed with scalloped potatoes and broccolini. Salmon was moist. 4. Kids meal - steak with grapes, carrots, salad with ranch dressing, and choice of drink. 5. Seafood platter sampler - 4 oysters, 4 ponzu scallops, and 4 shrimps. Comes with a vinegar sauce and red sour sauce, not sure what it is called. Oysters was delicious but small. Today's was local oysters. Ponzu scallop was delicious. Bluewater has ample outdoor seating and indoor seating as well. Service was attentive and friendly. We ordered Mary's Chicken Under a Brick, Seafood Louie Salad, and Fish Tacos for lunch. The chicken was cooked nicely- crispy skin and very flavorful. The broccolini was a bit tough, though. Seafood Louie was well-liked and came with a generous portion of shrimp/crab. The dressing that accompanied it was very good. The fish tacos, unfortunately, were a disappointment. They were made with blackened cod, which was chewy and flavorless. They forgot the crema on the tacos, and when I ordered some to add to the taco, the crema was pretty flavorless also. The tacos came with tortilla chips and a small cup of beans- both of these were tasty. Would come back to try other dishes, and would recommend avoiding the fish tacos. read more
