I had a draft pilsner, and my husband had a key lime martini which was delicious! Neither too sweet or too tart. We were seated inside in a booth by a window with a gorgeous view of the Pacific. They also have a lovely patio, but we opted for inside due to the heat. Our server, Micheline, immediately made us feel comfortable with great recommendations. The starters came out faster than we expected and were excellent. The mushroom dip was not what we expected. It was thick & rich with a little heat. Very yummy! It was served with fried bread that made a great vehicle for sopping it up. We got one wedge salad (which they split for us). Very fresh, crisp veggies. Generous servings of cheese & bacon. My hubby who does not normally like ranch dressing enjoyed it as much as I did. Our entrees came out quickly as well. I got the sea bass. It was cooked perfectly. The sauce was rich & had a kick. My husband raved about his cioppino as some of the best he's had. Throughout the meal, Micheline was attentive without hovering, joked with us, and made us feel truly welcome. She raised an already outstanding meal to new heights. We didn't have room for dessert, so we'll have to visit again to try out the sweets. Wow, have you ever been to Chandler's, located inside the Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach (a Hilton resort)? If not, you gotta GO!!! It's an amazing oceanfront restaurant across from South Carlsbad State Beach. Best ceviche we've ever had! The sourdough bread is to die for! Our entrées which were salmon and Chilean Seabass were cooked to mouth-watering perfection! Of course the views were insane! To top it off our waitress, JILL was thoroughly delightful! Happy and knowledgeable and so much fun... She clearly loves her job! She was so attentive to us, we felt like we were the only diners there. :-) And she really knows her stuff! Alright, so I'd heard great things about this place. I was staying on the resort side with friends and was directed here for coffee and breakfast. When I arrived, the host at the front was incredibly sweet. When I mentioned that my order was to-go, she kindly guided me to the bar area to place it. It was 10:50 a.m. when I got there, and by the time the guests ahead of me had ordered, it was around 11:04 a.m. Unfortunately, the bartender taking orders seemed very frustrated. I ordered an oat milk latte and three different pastries (which were honestly superb), but the interaction felt quite uncomfortable. He mentioned several times that no one had come in all morning and that just as he was cleaning up and getting ready to finish, people started showing up. I completely understand that it can be frustrating when customers arrive right as you're expecting to wrap up your shift. However, repeatedly venting that frustration to guests made for an awkward experience. I felt so uncomfortable that I almost cancelled my order altogether. Admittedly, I hadn't had my caffeine yet, so maybe I was feeling it more than usual! That said, the pastries were excellent, the coffee was good, and the host made a wonderful first impression. Delicious breakfast! I ordered the croissant breakfast sandwich and WOW, so good! They don't open until 7am, which for me wasn't ideal, but we were seated promptly. Our server was so sweet and did a great job. My only hangup was that we were a little pressed for time so assumed getting in there first we would be able to get in and out for quickly, but it was still a 45 minute breakfast from start to finish. We timed our reservation for sunset and the view did not disappoint -- a direct, unobstructed look at the ocean with the sky lighting up in orange and pink right over the water. The one star is for the host & supervisor. Here is my review: Went to Chandler's after our lovely experience at the Cape Rey Spa. We were on a high and things were great when the host sat us and helped us get our table cleaned. The moment our server came up to us (an older lady with grey hair and bangs) she was very blunt and said straight away "you getting drinks?" No greetings, no friendliness or hospitality. That didn't bother us at all. So when my boyfriend asked what the drafts were, she was listing them all while looking away and the last one looked dead in my boyfriends eyes (he's Mexican) and said "oh and Modelo" So my boyfriend got a Lager and I got a butterfly margarita. Took us 25 minutes to get our drinks. We put in our order in and while we were ordering.. my bf asked what was better between the ahi and sandwich.. he ended up choosing the ahi and she's like "don't worry, she'll help you eat it" (about ME). She wasn't even joking or laughing or trying to be friendly, just straight up rude. So after we're just chilling and drinking our drinks. Having a good time. Until an hour passes by and still no food. The server came by and refilled our waters and I looked noticeably upset and she said "lunch is coming guys."In a rude, condescending way... (Meanwhile the table behind us came in 20-30 minutes after us and got their food right away and we're already finishing up.) During that same interaction, my boyfriend ordered another lager and she brings him a Modelo 15 minutes later!! I went to find another server to check on our food. The supervisor approached us and said she's very sorry and the food is coming out shortly. Meaning our server probably never put our food in!!! Service may have been painfully slow on my last visit, but this time our service was provided by Nathan and Eric, who were excellent. We ordered: * Chuck Brisket Cheeseburger (medium rare) - Smoked cheddar, beefsteak tomato, shredded iceberg lettuce, grilled onions, chipotle aioli. They really did a great job recognizing my recent birthday in an elegant and dignified fashion. I'm disappointed to leave this review. I live five minutes away and have been to Chandler's numerous times and often during holidays when they serve special buffets. Today is Mother's Day, and my husband, one year old, and I had reservations for Mother's Day brunch at 8:45am. Mornings don't always go as planned with toddlers, so we arrived at 9am. The young hostess was very rude and let us know they can't seat us as the next wave of the brunch buffet is starting at 10:30am and that they're setting up for it. I pleaded and asked if we could eat really quickly and be in and out of there in 30 min. They harshly said no and were not understanding at all. I was pretty bummed they couldn't accommodate us, especially on Mother's Day when they could clearly see I was holding my toddler and we just wanted to get him fed. Unfortunately, due to their lack of customer service, we will not be retuning. I guess there's a reason no locals come and only hotel guests eat here. Very different vibe in customer service than the Alila Marea down the street which I would highly recommend instead for better service, views, and food. Came in for brunch with a friend and his wife Sunday 7/20/25 and ended up having one of the better dining experiences I've had in North County. I don't know if this restaurant is under new management but a few months ago when I ordered breakfast French toast for my kids it would at least come with a few berries toppings however on today's visit, the dish was literally just a French toast. It was blah. There was no pizzazz or any form of attempt to make the dish appetizing. For $9, I expected a little more effort despite being a kids dish. We also ordered chocolate milk for the kids and it was terrible. They definitely used a powder packet and I think they didn't even attempt to fully mix the powder before serving it. During my stay at Cape Rey, I had breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Chandler's. It's attached to the hotel, but candidly it was the only restaurant around. My colleagues and I had dinner on the outdoor patio around 6:30pm on a Tuesday night. We had a prix fixe menu with up to 5 courses: appetizer, soup, salad, entree, and a dessert. Their sourdough boule with truffle bone marrow butter and pesto was out of this world. We had other appetizers passed around including brussels sprouts and plantains with guacamole. I didn't bother to try the other appetizers, because I couldn't get over how good the bread and truffle bone marrow butter was. The soup that came out was a tortilla soup, which was delicious. The salad wasn't memorable. I kind of picked at it so that I could make room for my entree of choice: the 8oz filet mignon. The steak was cooked to medium rare perfection, and I enjoyed its accroutrements. I chose the dark chocolate ganache for my dessert, and it was lovely and rich. Loved its crunchy feuilletine. The following day I had breakfast. I kept it simple and got a side order of toast and 1 egg any style. I asked for scrambled eggs, and honestly could've fooled me that it was just 1 egg. I felt like it was a decent sized scramble! Lastly, I had lunch later that same day. I ordered a wedge with grilled chicken. Although the salad was tasty, it was a bit heavy on the saltiness. Overall I would say that I liked the food at Chandler's, and the service was great. I came here for brunch last Sunday with a group of friends and it was a disaster! There were 10 of us, and the wait staff seemed overwhelmed by the size of our party. Each of us took our turn ordering, and the server went down the row in either side of the table (we didn't jump around). Food took forever to arrive, and when it was finally delivered to our table, our orders got mixed up, delivered to the wrong person. Many of us got each other's order by mistake. I ordered the crab cakes benedict with a side salad. I requested salad dressing on the side so I could control the amount of dressing. Sadly, I had the following issues with my dish: 1. The eggs were not poached correctly. They were a soft boil instead of having a runny yolk. 2. The 2 tiny crab cakes were inconsistently seasoned. Both were dry (over fried), but one was flavorless while the other was extremely salty. 3. I received no dressing for my salad. The mixed greens were also wilted and not fresh. 4. My dish was missing chives on top of the eggs (everyone else had chives on theirs). 5. The crab cakes were cold. Four of us ordered the crab cakes benedict and all 4 of us had issues with our dish. When we mentioned the eggs to the manager, she replaced the soft boiled eggs with the properly poached eggs, but they were delivered to us in a bowl with water. It would have been nice if they had drained the eggs. We appreciated the replacement though. We mentioned the inconsistent crab cakes, but there was no offer to fix them. For the ladies who did not order crab cakes, they also had problems with their dish. The lobster hash was cold. The French toast with a side of bacon was missing the bacon and the small maple syrup jar was nearly empty, there was barely enough. A carafe of coffee was delivered to the table, but there was a delay in bringing the creamer and sugar. The coffee was cold by the time the creamer and sugar arrived at the table. There was a delay in bringing out more hot coffee. Empty water glasses were never replenished. Overall, we received very poor service. Our main server was extremely rude. We had the impression that because we were a large party, the 20% gratuity was a guarantee and already included in our tab so the server simply did not care. She threw the bill on our table, rolled her eyes, and walked off. Well guess what?!?! I had the 20% gratuity removed. Large party or not, we're not paying 20% gratuity for crappy service! Here's a tip: Don't show up to work with an attitude if you expect good tip. Nothing is guaranteed. The food was bad and the service was even worse. It's such a shame, because the restaurant was beautiful and had a beautiful view of the beach. There is a parking garage that offers free parking for the first 2 hours, but if you dine at the restaurant, your parking ticket can be validated. Well they didn't validate our tickets. With all of the delays and endless waiting, we were at the restaurant for 3.5 hours! Instead of validating our tickets, they told us to hit the "help" button and someone at the front desk will open the gate. We pushed the button at least 10 times before they opened the gate. A well mannered gentleman wearing a checkered white and red shirt came by asking if we have been greeted yet. We haven't, we had a small nice conversation with him. Our waiter was very dry, to the point, no personality. She bumped into my friend's grapefruit juice and got it all over the table, it happens was her response and the young guy who take care of that was extremely apologetic. Her attitude through my colleagues off, to the point they asked if they said something that might offend her. We stayed at the hotel where Chandler's is located, and our room included a $30 dining credit per day -- that's the main reason we ended up eating here two days in a row. We also had an American Express dining credit that helped bring down the bill even more. Otherwise, to be honest, we probably would've chosen to explore other restaurants in the area since there are quite a few better options nearby. The view and the service were the highlights -- both excellent and worth mentioning. The staff was friendly, and the ocean view made the meal feel special.
