    Truffle mushroom pizza

Honestly, I am not so sure about this spot. Is it trendy? Yes. Do they play good music? Also yes. I'd say it's a cool spot to grab drinks and enjoy a few accoutrements alongside them, but if you're coming to fulfill an appetite, I don't think it's the place for it. The music definitely makes you want to hang out, and the interior decorations are super trendy. I was one of few guests, and before my food had arrived I was asked to close my tab. Not normally an issue, except that the pizza I ordered (the truffle mushroom) didn't come out initially, and I was served the margarita pizza. There's only two pizzas on the menu, and somehow they made the wrong one. They kindly fixed the mishap, but I might have taken notice of this before I tipped.

My friend was performing here on a lovely Sunday afternoon. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking. I didn't have any issues really but I can see it getting busy if there's a major event happening. Seating: Plenty you have the choice of indoors or outdoors. Room for maybe 40 people - great for groups or individuals Vibes: Oceanside is a pretty neat area. Its in its name, like a clean beach town. The spot itself is pretty neat - clean and unapologetically a space for music lovers - from the vintage audio gear, comfortable seating, and local vibe. Daytime wise, the space is clearly built for listening, not shouting--so you can actually talk, relax, and soak it all in. FOOD/DRINKS: Mint Condition (Recommend) Refreshing! I enjoyed the zest of lemon, refreshing mint flavor, bubbly sparkle and the calmness of the tea and cucumber. Truffle Popcorn (Recommend) If you're looking for something lite, this is what you're looking for. Well-cooked popcorn with well mixed truffle and parmesan. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Awesome! Friendly people that were invested in the experience. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Good stuff - music, food, drinks, and vibes. If you're looking for more than "just another bar," this place delivers: great atmosphere, music you can enjoy, and smart food & drinks. I'd definitely come back with friends or for a relaxed date night. TIPS: * Arrive early or check their socials for events.

Sound by the Sea is a bar that focuses on music. I am so happy I stumbled upon this place because it's truly one of a kind. It looks like they frequently feature various DJ's to play through the day. Their sound systems look expensive and feel top notch - hearing the music was one thing, and feeling the music was another. The service is great, but I can tell the staff get busy. I came on a weekend night, and there were lots of people coming in and out. Sometimes it took a while to get a hold of the staff for taking our orders or checking out, but it all went through slowly and smoothly. Everyone is required to order something. I got a rose lemonade that came in a bottle - it was floral and not too sweet (I personally didn't love it). Overall, I'd love to come here more frequently to enjoy the music and atmosphere. I hope they expand to more locations because I truly believe there needs to be more places like this around!

My friend organized a '70s-themed beach party in Oceanside, and we ended up at this cool spot for appetizers and drinks. This was my second time here, and I love everything about this place. First of all, kudos to the bartender--I forgot her name, but she was incredibly generous and kind. She accidentally forgot my drink and kept apologizing, but I told her it was totally fine since we had a large party. To make up for it, she gave me two shots instead of one and even added a big discount. The ambiance of this place is unique and very artsy. If you're looking for a cool, one-of-a-kind spot to hang out, this is it. There's so much attention to detail throughout--even the restroom door is thoughtfully designed with a modern, creative touch. My friend ordered a variety of cocktails, and everyone enjoyed them. The food was great as well. I ordered the hummus plate, and it was the best I've ever had--so fresh and served in a generous portion. My friends tried the pizza and a few other items from the menu, and everything got a thumbs up. If you're in the area looking for a cool place to hang out or planning a party, this is the spot. I'll definitely be back again soon.

This spot is inviting with the music you can hear from the sidewalk. We had no intention of entering here, but we were curious what this place was because besides the sign on the building, we saw an auto body shop sign in front (which was located behind their shop). They basically play vinyl and offered drinks and snacks while you chill and listen to live vinyl music played by the DJ at the bar. We sat at the bar and he didn't interact with us once. We thought that was odd since we could've chosen to sat anywhere else; there was other seating inside and a whole patio outside. Sitting at the bar is awkward enough to not be welcomed by the person working behind the counter, you know? Drink menu consists of different alcohol and non-alcoholic options. A few of the snacks you choose from are flatbreads, empanadas, or charcuterie. The flatbread comes from a spot in San Diego so they are toasting it for you. It was good. They offer combo deals which I thought was cool. Two beers of any choice and flatbread was $25. This place was not bad, a bit too hipster that would probably do better in North Park, but cool concept. The bathroom is literally behind a farm barn door near the bar.

The Sound Bar has a really fun vibe and is a cool place to hang out with friends. The music and energy make it feel lively, especially in the evening. It's a good spot if you're looking for drinks and a social atmosphere. The DJ had a great selection of music. The food selection was okay. I had the truffle popcorn which was great! The staff was very nice and the place is family friendly.

I've been going to this place for a while and I love it! It has the coolest vibe and is a great place if you just want to get a cocktail and chill. My boyfriend and I did the 2 cocktail and a dessert combo for $35 which I think is a pretty good deal! We both love the Tago Mago which has a nice mango flavor a little bit smoky. Definitely going to keep coming back!

What a fantastic spot!! We still need to come in for a regular bar experience, we came for the Night Market, which we enjoyed! So many adorable and niche vendors there. Thank you for having affordable and delicious drinks available, you don't see that often where a place has great entertainment followed by affordable drinks! This place has been talked about by all my friends and I'm happy i got to experience it. Can't wait to come back for more DJs sets!!

Came from 8-9pm on a Friday night. I love how eclectic this place is. Lounge vibes are strong. Loved the tiramisu and truffle popcorn. Husband liked the El Golpe (so smooth because of the soju). I had the Sweetest Taboo, but I'd opt for a glass of wine next time. DJ was great. Check insta for their lineup.

This place was so cute! Parking is along the street which wasn't too bad on a Tuesday night. The ambiance is amazing, love the vibe. Inside & outdoor space were equally aesthetically pleasing. Service was fast, friendly, & thoughtful. Loved the DJ of the night, also liked that there was an actual section to buy records. We got some tumeric tea, truffle popcorn, 2 empeñadas (spinach/mint/beef, & then chicken), also got the flatbread which was delicious. Will definitely be back!

I had the pleasure of attending ASMOTthe first special event by **Sound by the Sea**, featuring a five-course East African fine dining experience by chefs Chris Nshimye, Davin, and Jason, Every dish was rich in flavor, and the warm, welcoming staff created a chill yet sophisticated vibe. Adding to the magic, Captain Planet curated an all-vinyl tribute to African Funk and Jazz, perfectly complementing the evening. This was a truly unique fusion of food and music, we hope this is just the beginning of many more events to come! Thank you to the staff and chefs for a magical experience

The place to be.. music flows, as well as conversations. Good variety of food and drinks. Service is a little slow but overall everyone is nice. Small space, make a reservation for parties. We enjoy it there every time.

I came here on my visit to O'side last month. I was happy to find it was a short walk away from my vacation rental, too! But I can't speak to the parking situation because of that. My immediate impression was great. Moody, colored lighting, DJ was already spinning, it was packed. I sat at the bar space in the middle where the DJ was since I was by myself. Loved the music. I think my experience may have been a little better if I was at a table though. They seemed to prioritize larger parties in terms of service. It took so long for me to get served. I mean, they were busy, sure. But I was watching their staff. And they kept congregating by the bar, talking to each other. Meanwhile, it took 15 minutes for me to get a drink. And then I ordered one of the pizzas, which was a mistake. Apparently these are artisan pizzas made fresh but I read that on the menu which was the only thing I could do while I waited. What that really means though is you have to wait nearly an hour to get a tiny pizza that's like maybe the equivalent of 2 slices. The pizza was tasty, but for the price and wait time and the fact that I was still hungry after -- not worth it. And I was never informed it would take a long time. Even worse, all I got was an apology from the waitress. No discount, no "we want to make it right here's a free appetizer," no coupon. Just a sorry for the wait, an hour after I ordered a tiny pizza. I might come back here just for drinks and to listen to the DJs. But I'm never ordering food from here again. I really hope they work on their customer service and get a faster/better kitchen! The space is really cool, especially the back patio. But please be more attentive to your patrons!

Ask the Community - Sound by the Sea

I am looking to visit on a weekend night in a couple weeks with my girl friend, is it just a walk in and sit down or are reservations available/recommended? is there any local, nice hotels nearby this bar that anyone can recommend?

We recommend reservations for groups of 4 and more people. If it's just the two of you we suggest you come by and usually the wait is 5-10minutes on the busy moments. Recommend hotels: Green Room & Fin hotel.

Is this only for 21 and up?

hi Kaylee, we are absolutely kid-friendly! After 8pm we keep it more 21+

My husband and I stopped in to Frankie's on a recent Saturday at 5pm. Our kiddo had a performance down the street at 6pm so we had a little time to kill beforehand. The neighboring spots looked busy so we decided to go with Frankie's, seeing as they were less inundated at the time and we had a time constraint. Another allure was the sandwich board at the front door advertising discounted cocktails - sold!! Inside there were a handful of patrons at the bar, another table with two additional patrons and maybe a couple on the patio so it was fairly quiet and slow, so it looked promising. We headed up to the bar and hung out behind two empty barstools, the single female bartender greeted us and said she'd be right with us, but then continued chatting up the seated patrons, serving them and their friends that had just joined (AFTER we'd arrived). We moved a little further down to the handoff area where she was making drinks to save her having to come back to us again, and stood there for probably 10 minutes while she took orders and made all the drinks. We commented that she looked like she could definitely use a hand, and she said they were still adjusting into summer hours and determining whether more coverage was needed at this time - I figured 5pm on a Saturday should be primetime, so I'm not sure in what universe having a single bartender makes any sense. Finally we placed our cocktail orders, waited while they were made, and then put our card down for the tab. After we'd paid, I noticed the cocktails were more expensive than advertised on the sandwich board out front - I couldn't find a disclaimer anywhere that said only certain cocktails were included, so while it was a bummer I wasn't about to wait another 10-15 minutes to catch her attention and ask for clarification. Just a heads up to beware of whatever is advertised that might summon you in from the sidewalk, and make sure you ask before you make your selection. Drinks were very subpar, nothing special to write home about. While I can appreciate the Gatsby-esque vibe they're trying to uphold at Frankie's, they really should increase their staffing especially during prime weekend and evening hours, and be more transparent about their specials and what's included and what's not. Hindsight is 20/20, and the low volume of patrons when everything else around it was going off was probably a sign, so we'll skip Frankie's our next go around.

In this case, "low-key" refers to a tiki bar that is not over-the-top; one that doesn't cause you to enter into an entirely different reality. There's a time and place for that sort of tiki bar but in a small coastal town perhaps you don't want or need to enter a fourth dimension. The Lobby is small (though larger than I'd anticipated), not noticeably dark (like many in the genre), and outfitted with a nice array of tiki-themed tchotchkes. Scooby Doo, playing silently on a small tv above the bar, is a perfect accompaniment to the pleasing decor. I both ate and drank here and found nothing not to enjoy. Tiki bars generally elicit happiness in me and this one, with its excellent server, did not change that mindset. An Astro Chimp ($14) was my tiki drink of choice, mostly because I was interested in trying a cocktail featuring cold brew. Very good, and it did not keep me up all night. Fish & Chips ($23) was a sizable and satisfying portion, plenty there to be shared by two. "Brussels" ($11), were also quite good and ample. You will not go hungry if you choose to dine here. The Lobby is a fun choice for your time in Oceanside. Stylish and satisfying on every front, I'd happily return. Other stuff: * There is apparently a stairway-accessible rooftop deck here but it was closed for a private event during my visit. If open, definitely worth checking out. * 5% surcharge is automatically added to everything you spend here.

Parking was a little rough and the lot was FULL, but I took that as a good sign I went around 2pm on a Wednesday and there was a nice mix of families, couples, etc. You can sit inside, at the bar, or outside in the sun or shade. I chose outside in the shade and it was quiet, relaxed, and really comfortable. I ordered the Dirty Bird and it was SO good. The chicken was crispy outside, juicy inside, not oily or dry. The coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, the fries were nicely seasoned, and it was a good amount of food. They happily put my pickles and hot honey on the side too. I asked for ginger ale and they offered ginger beer instead, which was a pleasant little surprise! The menu has a ton to choose from. I actually wished I had people with me so I could try more things And for my fellow IBS friends, the women's bathroom has TWO stalls. These are important details!! I'd absolutely come back and bring my husband. Although he ate my leftovers, so I'm still a little mad at him.

I wouldn't call this place a great dinner spot, not because of the food but because of the atmosphere. Even though we enjoyed all our food, my husband was in a bit of hurry to get out of here because he was really uncomfortable with the seating. The seating is more like patio-style furniture, so the chairs are very low. Since he is on the taller side, his legs were all bunched up the whole time. We had made reservations, but we didn't know that booking "Standard" meant that we were going to be sitting in the hotel pool area... this was probably our biggest complaint. Even though the view was spectacular, it was interrupted by kids jumping in the pool and occasionally splashing us and also just running by us. Also because we were by the pool, our cocktails came in plastic glasses which also made us feel a little slighted, especially since the cocktails are pretty pricey. The service was just okay. Our server was nice and we didn't ever feel like we were being neglected even though we were over by the pool and not in the main area. I just feel there wasn't anything remarkable about the service. I think when you are expecting to pay higher prices for an experience, you want more personable servers. All this to say, we were really happy with all the food we had! We had the 1/2 dozen oysters (my only complaint is that they did not disclose where they were from on the menu so you don't really know what you are paying for and it is pricey), the sea bass ceviche (super yummy!), the lamb, and the prawn special. I did not shut up about how yummy the prawns were all night, even after we left! Anyway, I think I would come back for drinks and maybe a dish or two, but we definitely won't be coming back for date night dinner again.

My goodness gracious…read more A.I. whiffed on this suggestion big-time, asking for a nice rooftop viewpoint to bring my family for a light dinner. Upon entrance, it is beyond cramped and chaotic (where are capacity enforcements, and that's just near the front half of the venue on the 6th floor. I had no clue this area was also used for hotel guests at the Mission Pacific, with ZERO dress code. You can come in flip-flops and a wife beater. There were kids, infants, some literally looked like mothers gave birth and then brought them from the hospital straight here like, WTF are these people thinking??? Ok, hotel priority, should've fact-checked that's on me, but it's just disgusting looking at the crowd here, absolutely abysmal. It makes Wal-Mart look like Rodeo Drive. I didnt see this awful of an assembly of people staying at Motel 6's. After our reservation was confirmed, we were led to a private area through a weighted gate door, I said good, away from the chaos. Instead, we were put in even more of a hellfire right in front of the pool which was littered with screaming, splashing kids left right up and down. Our seating areas were wet (see pics for proof) and my wife got her pants soaked by the time she realized it, I had to put a pillow underneath to avoid sitting on a soaked couch. Insanely traumatizing and epic fail+disaster. We ordered drinks they came 1 hour, yes 1 HOUR after our meals arrived, they took 50% off the drinks bill, when they should've (and really the whole bill) waived without question. Why??? Read on I'm just warming up. I must say, Kylie our server was extremely apologetic and super nice, which rendered the full tip amount, but she couldnt salvage this tragedy. They REALLY need to separate outside visitor dining reservations from hotel crowd, its ridiculous. There was a woman who bent over right in front of my mom, ass cheeks fully exposed, and changed bathing suits right in front of her so close that if my mom turned to the left, her nose would've been in her asshole. This is happening at 8pm. The food: Grilled Artichoke B+ Tuna Tartare F-, returned and refunded, disgusting Coulotte steak slices F-, Each family member took 1 slice and attempted to chew, every one of us spit out; unchewable sinew and gristle, $50 buck complete waste. Vadouvan Chicken Sando= A, shockingly delish and perfect. Marinated Seas Bass=A...like a ceviche super fresh. So in all, the service gets a star not for the delay of drinks but Kylie's compassion and demeanor and engagement with us, the food is all over the place but a 2* combined, and taking one star off for the insanely chaotic shit show a breath in front of us, the wet seats, and cherry on top, the bullshit 6% "service" charge tacked on. I will be having nightmares for a few weeks, if not months, to get this outta my system.

The tunes are something North County has been wanting, but been missing in favor of larger venue DJ's, but the juke box here has been curated with classics. It's far too small to dance unless you're slow or maybe 2 stepping in the corner. The ambiance is dim, relaxed, fun. The drinks are just as good as some of the top bars around, helmed by Wyatt who you may remember from Switchboard and KNVS is a staple in Oceanside. Prices are excellent, staff is great. While you can get a cocktail here, you don't have to. A classic shot and a beer is just as likely to be had here as a stemmed glass proper cocktail. When it's jamming it is near a standing room all the way around. No doorman asking for a password, no re-entry on nights when Heritage are open (Monday is this exception).
