Beautiful performing arts center in Charlotte. We traveled here from Raleigh to see Avatar the Last Airbender in Belk Theater. The acoustics were excellent and the employees were welcoming and helpful. The small size and horseshoe seating arrangement allows for great views from most areas of the theater. We sat in the orchestral section and would choose that same area again. I ordered the tickets online and it was very easy to select seats. Note that the seats are snug. We were packed in closely in small chairs. Don't be surprised if you touch shoulders with the people sitting to the left and right of you. Nonetheless it was still comfortable. The temperature, lighting, and volume were ideal. Use the restroom before the performance as you will be greeted with a very long line if you wait for intermission. Warning chimes are provided before the show starts at the beginning and as intermission is ending. These were so helpful and provided adequate time to find/return to your seats. Before leaving be sure to validate your parking. Blumenthal offers a preferred parking rate of $10 at specific parking garages. Their website lists the recommended garages based on the theater you are in. Overall we had a great experience and I would recommend this arts center to others! read more

I love the arts! Which means I love theater, I have visited several of the theaters that fall under the Blumenthal Arts umbrella (The Knight, Belk, etc.) they have a great mix of plays, concerts, etc. Being a NYKr and going to Broadway to see plays - I am able to have a sense of New York! I am happy to see that Charlotte has "Broadway" plays at their cluster of venues. The staff is polite, accommodating and pleasant. The concession stand is a bit slim, but enough to hold one over for a quick snack and a decent pour of wine! read more

Finally, I'm back attending live theater shows! Blumenthal is located in Charlotte, NC. Parking is normally reasonable if you park at a parking deck that is partnered with theater, info located normally on website. Theater is very clean and the friendly staff is always go above to help customers. Snack and drinks are kinda expensive, but I purchase to support them anyways. The fees are also outrageous to see live performances, so be prepared if you purchase online. In person at box office is always cheaper. The "Tina Turner" musical was fabulous and I highly recommend it to all!! Great night out in Charlotte, as always. Charlotte is one of my fav cities to visit! read more

I took my sweet nephew to see Winnie the Pooh for his 7th birthday a few weeks ago. The trip to Charlotte is quick for us and we made an adventure out of it, stopping for lunch before the show, going to the LEGO store and going to Amelie's afterward for hot chocolate and macarons. Being my first trip to this performing arts center and being unfamiliar with everywhere in Charlotte with the exception of the Sugar Creek Greenway and Nordstrom, I parked in a parking deck nearby that was sadly the "wrong one". $10 parking validation was available inside our theater lobby, which I bought not knowing I wasn't in the correct deck to use that barcode to get out. I ended up paying for parking twice and the deck I was in charged $18 for the 2 hours we were there. Yikes! But that's on me. The theater was intimate with lower/stage level seating as well as a balcony. We were seated in the first row of the balcony. Our view was excellent and she show was sweet as honey. I did note there were concessions in the lobby, which I thought was a bit strange. Do you really need popcorn and wine for an hour long live stage performance? Maybe you do. Whatever. But since we had just consumed lunch, we bypassed that feature. Maybe for an evening event or something a bit longer I might partake. I also had no idea until we were inside that the Blumenthal theatre was one of many in the facility. There is space for enormous Broadway productions and orchestral performances and they have a spectacular lineup of events heading our way over the coming months. Our charming theater had guides aiming us in the right direction once in the main building, which was helpful and kept us from steering off on a different adventure of getting lost (which I'm quite sure is possible). My nephew thought the fountains in the lobby were amazing (indoor water features are truly fancy, y'all). And we had a marvelous afternoon at a precious performance. I would absolutely look for something else to attend here! I want to see the rest of the auditoriums/theaters! read more

After a two year wait to watch this performance of the Empire Strikes Back, the Charlotte Symphony once again blew it out of the water. I still remember having dinner the night the performance was going to happen and getting an email saying it got cancelled with the start of the pandemic. The mask mandate had been dropped the week before, but it was a mixture of people wearing masks and not wearing them. I chose to go without, but I did have my mask on me if I ever felt too crowded/boxed in. Being fully vaccinated with a booster also gave me more comfort in knowing I've done all that I could for myself and those around me. The entire staff and the theater do wear masks and are super nice. They help user you through, and it's very smart they have so many people to help. I'd imagine not many people going to see Star Wars goes to the theater on the reg, so it's nice that the staff can direct you to the best door to go to in order to get to your seats with minimal crossing over folks. The symphony was spot on and it was great seeing something that everyone enjoyed- even if it's something that folks have seen so many times over. I highly recommend going to their movie series and other events because it's just fun and it's great to see how many instruments it takes to really score these epic movies. read more

I really love the Blumenthal and really appreciate that they are bringing high quality performing arts to Charlotte. I've seen a few shows and every seat in the house is a great seat. There's a walkway that connects the parking garage (150 N College St) directly indoors to the Bank of America center, so on cold days you don't have to weather the chill. I had a great experience with the box office purchasing tickets day of, and appreciated the ease of getting into the theater with various entrances. I would love to give this review 5 stars, but I had unfortunately experienced an incredibly unkind usher or perhaps volunteer who was taking pictures for guests. It was my aunt and mom's first time at the blumenthal and I was so excited to show them what Charlotte has to offer by seeing "Mean Girls". We are Charlotte natives and they had not been to the theater before. I wanted to show them how fun it could be so we stood in line to get our picture taken. When we got up there I was getting ready to hand off my phone and I politely asked the volunteer or usher if she could take the photo where our feet were closer to the bottom of the frame. She rudely brushed me off saying she doesn't do that and walked away. I was in shock, but just went with it and took our own photos. It was certainly off putting because it was so abrupt. She took everyone else's photos before and after us. My mom was clearly upset and asking why we weren't given the same opportunity to get our photo taken together. I am really disappointed. I understand if someone was uncomfortable with a request, but I feel that there lacked finesse and customer service skills. It made my family feel singled out and not included, which is so unfortunate for their first experience at the theater. I still give the theater 3 stars for the great box office experience, the ushers at the doors, and getting to the theater with ease. I hope that there is better customer service training in the future so that first time theater goers can feel included and welcomed. read more

I had recently made an account so I could purchase tickets for the y2k Naughty Aughties barrette crafting workshop. Keep in mind, this is my first time ever interacting with or buying tickets from a Blumenthal Arts event or workshop. I do not have my own bank card due to other circumstances, and so I sometimes have to use a parent's bank card (with their permission, yes). Because my name wasn't on the bank card, they would not let me continue with the process (and their newly implemented ticket system is so outdated!). So my parent decided to just put their name on the ticket, yet it still wouldn't let me go through. After giving up, I decided to try and delete my account, which the website wouldn't let me do. So when my parent called about removing the account, my parent received a rude receptionist who brusquely told them that "you can't do that" and "it doesn't work like that". Management will have to deal with this new CarolinaTix system, or get rid of it, because an outdated system with a strenuous process like this will make people less willing to bother trying to buy tickets in the first place (which would also hurt the local artists who hold these workshops, mind you). This was my first time ever trying to buy tickets to a Blumenthal Arts workshop or event, but with the rude and dismissive caller on top of all of that, I don't know if I'll ever try and buy another ticket because of this experience. It truly upsets me, as someone of my low-income background already has enough trouble trying to find and attend local theater events or workshops which I can afford, and this experience ruined any hope I had to attend any Blumenthal ticketed events in the future. read more

We went to see Aladdin on Broadway and it was Phenomenal!! The venue was easy to get to and parking was on 6th St for $6. When we got there they had a beautiful backdrop for the show. The concession stand was very reasonably priced. The characters were very talented & Hilarious. Especially the Genie!! The stage settings were AMAZING! They included magic, sequence, sparkle, shine, and I was in AWE. I HIGHLY recommend seeing the show !! read more

My first time at Blumenthal was for the 25th anniversary tour of RENT and I have to say what a great experience all around!! The musical was amazing!! The staff at Blumenthal were very nice and helpful! The lady at the bar let us know that we could order drinks ahead of intermission which saved us so much time and gave us time to use the bathroom in between and also take a photo in front of the RENT display. One of the staff members was there to offer picturing taking on your phone for those waiting in line to take a pic in front of the display. There was a little confusion when getting seated since someone was sitting in our seat when we arrived and I was a little annoyed she didn't ask to see the persons ticket sitting in my seat but instead asked to see mine over again a couple times as if it were a fake ticket or something but we got that cleared up after a few minutes. Overall I enjoyed my experience and definitely plan to return for another show! read more

Cannot say enough about this jewel in Charlotte's crown. If you've been here for any amount of time as a resident or otherwise, you owe it to yourself to come here and see a show or concert. The concert hall here is small, quaint and not the least bit intimidating. It feels cozy and intimate. The Charlotte Orchestra performs famous and lesser known pieces alike here on a regular basis. From the classics in a string quartet to the band-like, multi-piece orchestral/choral ensembles You can find about anything to fit your fancy. On my latest visit, Holst the Planets, they even featured an audience interactive piece in which you viewed Hubble Telescope imagery and played music from your phone to sync with the orchestral performance. They apparently also do plays and Broadway-style shows here. I've been to several concerts but never a show. The prices definitely vary. You could pay quite a bit for orchestra level or not break the bank in the 2nd and 3rd levels. I remember discounts coming here as a student and writing reports for extra credit. There's a bar for intermission and plenty of drinks (including non-alcoholic) to choose from. They're not hoity-toity about letting you bring the drinks inside the concert hall. Make a night of a visit here! read more

I've seen a number of shows here and the staff is top-notch. Seriously, I've yet to meet a person there who didn't have a smile on their face. If seeing a show here, this theater normally provides $5 parking at the connected Bank of America parking garage. Once parked on your designated floor, walk to the nearby elevator and take it up to the sixth floor where you'll walk through Founder's Hall to the theater. You get a bonus show if you happen to be walking through during the holiday season because you'll see the Leonard Bearstein orchestra (which....may or may not creep you out). There's a bar where you can place orders in line or via their app. They serve the normal wine, beer, champagne offerings and some snack options. They recently renovated the women's restroom on the bottom floor and it is great. It properly accommodates a larger volume and kept pretty clean. Once inside the theater, any number of ushers will happily show you to your seat and provide programs/playbills. No matter where you're seated, be sure to look up to enjoy the 'starry' ceiling. read more

Great venu! Was abel to catch The Phantom of the Opera while it was here during valentines day and had a great time. I loved being able to bring my beverage into the show with me as I'm not used to that! Most theaters will make you throw back or choke down your drinks during the intermission or before the show and won't let you take it in. Not this place. Seats are comfy however VERY close together. More suitable for child-like bodies. My hubs was about to passout from being so close together with other warm bodies as it got hot quickly. That was my only complaint. Looking forward to seeing another show here in the future. read more

This is an nice theatre, conveniently located in 'uptown Charlotte' , or 'downtown' to those visiting from out of town. Being located in uptown, you have lots of options to park , the center can also sell you a reduced priced 'exit pass' for the best parking location . If you're seeing a show I recommend picking up your tickets a day early, I don't really have an rationale for that... I just get really excited about shows here. The theatre is nice, it's clean, it's a classy place. There are two concession stands, on both levels I believe, that move pretty quickly during intermission and serve alcohol, non-alcoholic beverages, including coffee. I'm not sure how many seats are here, but having purchased 'nose-bleed' seats more than once, I must say this isn't a bad deal, I steal had a good view of the show and don't regret the cheap seats. read more

I've been coming to events at Blumenthal (specifically, Belk Theater) since I was a child. I've even performed here a few times when I was in school... This review goes out to the wonderful volunteer ushers, concession, and bathroom attendants: I was at Blumenthal yesterday for a matinee showing of Miss Saigon. Matinee or no, the house was packed as it usually is for these blockbuster/Broadway performances. When the show gets to Intermission, it's like a swarm... I have no idea what the men's restroom is like, but the line to the women's is a mile long and backs up past the three concession stands in the lower levels. Here is where my hat comes off... the ladies attending the bathrooms are AMAZING! They are directing traffic in those huge bathrooms like champions... that long line, you're in and out in mere minutes! STANDING ovations for those attendants!! The concessions are also wonderful. They have you as a captive audience and could easily gouge the heck out of you... but they don't... snacks are a buck or two, drinks are a buck or two, alcohol isn't overly pricey either AND they have a nice variety! They hurry through HUGE lines as well, and they're kind and smiling all the while! Lastly the ushers: They are SO very helpful!! They know all about the show (because by the time you get there, they've see it 5 times), they know the run time, they know where your seat is, they can guide you to the fastest line for bathroom or concession, OR tell you when and where to get your parking paid... In short... I really can't compliment the staff here enough. If you see someone working at Blumenthal, you can bet good money that they are happy to be there and more than happy to help you! They're a credit to our local arts scene! read more

What an intimate and wonderful venue. We went and saw Amos Lee here for a sold-out show this past September and it was our first time here. The space is well-laid out and even in the upper tier, you didn't feel like you were too removed from being close. Located in the heart of uptown Charlotte, the Blumenthal Center is an amazing venue that host the best entertainment Charlotte has to offer. After stalking tickets for Motown the Musical, I finally discovered that you can get a ticket with a student ID starting 2 hours before the show for $25. There was no line to purchase tickets, as the show was nearly sold out. The ticket guys were friendly and I was fortunate to get what I felt was the best seat in the house, Grand Tier center (F 311 to be exact). When I returned later for the show, the ushers, who are primarily comprised of senior citizens.... not sure how that happens.... were very kind and helpful. The visuals and acoustics of the show were amazing. The great thing about the Blumenthal is that there is NO bad seat in the house. No matter where you are sitting, you will be able to see and hear. It is very well designed. I think you can often judge a venue by its restrooms. During intermission, the line was SO Long. However, there were ushers in the restroom, which had 48 stalls. Having people direct patrons to stalls was immensely helpful and the line moved very swiftly. While there is an individual unisex restroom upstairs, the better option is to get in the longer line downstairs. Overall, a great place and I highly recommend you see any show there, as all I've attended have been nothing shy of fantastic. read more

Les Misérables was absolutely unbelievable! The most incredible play I have ever seen and I have a hard time believing I will ever see a play to top it! I cannot speak highly enough about this production and a shoutout to Ovens Auditorium for the venue. The production itself was a masterpiece. There were two specific acts that have been etched into my memory. The first was the scene in which Jean Valjean was dragging Marius through the tunnel. I was convinced this was done on a video screen, but then Valjean began to appear closer and closer and finally emerged from the tunnel with Marius. The second was the suicide of Javert. The effects used here displayed Javert slowly falling by pulling him backward through a dark, dusky fog. The echo of his falling sounded quite realistic. The cast was unreal. In an effort to keep my review short I will say that the vocal performances were shockingly off the charts. I was amazed at how great the actors sounded and brilliantly they nailed all their lines. This being my first time seeing a performance from this company, I did not know what to expect, but I was completely blown away! Blumenthal Performing Arts is worth every penny. My girlfriend and I had the most amazing night here. Thank you to all who contributed in making this play phenomenal! read more

While it was watchable, and could probably garner a 2.5 star, the total price for the tickets (including the 'service fees') make the show avoidable. My girlfriend and I came to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center (shamefully) for the first time last night to see Traces, a new show that came in from NYC. As a snooty New Yorker, I always thumb my nose at what Charlotte has to offer in a cultural sense--which is normally dumb. Yet again, I've been proven wrong. The Blumenthal Center is awesome: modern, new, clean--just a really awesome performance space. Honestly, with the exception of its size, it's pretty much identical to any stage or symphony hall in a bigger city. There's also nice bars and concessions, so it really does have a great feel. We'll definitely be going back for future performances. Be sure to get there on the early side, though: the entrance area can get a little backed up pre-show (understandably). read more

There are always places to park throughout uptown Charlotte and there are various eateries as well. The inside of Blumenthal is beautiful and the seats are comfortable. Blumenthal Performing Arts has multiple Theatres and campuses. The theaters are as different as the acts that perform in them. The Levine Center features The Knight Theatre, The Spirit Square Campus includes the McGlohon Theater and the Duke Energy Theater and Blumenthal includes the Booth Theater, Belk Theater and the Stage Door Theatre. So far my only experiences have been at The Belk and Ovens Auditorium. Both were very good! Just for the fact alone that they provide the Charlotte community with such an amazing assortment of entertainment makes them a great organization!
