One of my new favorite venue's in Charlotte. The beloved Carolina Theatre built in 1927 went into hibernation in the late 70's and was recently (starting 12 years ago) renovated back to it's former glory. Reopening in May of 2025, the Carolina Theatre offers a gorgeous ambience which such great history and fun for all. I remember passing by this eyesore of an abandoned building since I was a child and never knew it other than just that. My family originally visited the Carolina Theatre during the Christmas season to watch Miracle on 34th St. We loved the venue so much we went back for another show the day after Christmas. Seating was plentiful and roomy and there were so many options (tables, couches, single seats, etc.). The painting, curtains and decor was all fabulous and well thought out. Word of caution, while there are several concession stands throughout the venue the restrooms are all downstairs on the lower floor.

Beautiful theater with a variety of seating options. We opted for a table in the 2nd balcony and loved the space and view. However, next time I would opt for the 1st level balcony so the railing is not in my view. We saw the hip hop a Sainted Christmas Carol and it was so good and sounded amazing.

Beautiful theater! Enjoyed catching a show here during the holiday season. Staff were polite, efficient and helpful. Concessions available on every level. Bathrooms were nice and well maintained.

At long last the Carolina Theater is back! Built in 1927, it's been a live performance venue & then converted to a movie theater. It's been vacant since its last use as a movie theater in 1978, Bruce Lee, Fists of Fury which I saw there! I lived in Uptown in 1998 & walked by this place daily on my way to work. It's taken this long to finally have its grand reopening celebration. It will be part of the Belk Theater & will host musical & theatre performances .

As a charlottes native who was born well after the closure of this theatre in the 70s, I had no clue it used to exist until they reopened in March freshly remodeled after being closed almost 50yrs. The space is absolutely gorgeous! I went for their throwback series to see a Bruce Lee classic, one of my faves that I'd never seen on the big screen. It was an awesome experience. Do be Mindful though that bathrooms are only on the bottom level or the balcony level. They do have elevators though so that helps, but just be advised a trip could take a little longer than normal if you're sitting in the orchestra area. Staff were great and friendly. They do have alcohol can purchase along with some snacks. There is a mixture of seats from individual chairs, loveseats and pull down stadium seats. You can buy tickets online or skip the online fees and buy at the box office.

The 2025 opening of the freshly renovated Carolina Theatre returned a performing arts gem to the heart of Uptown Charlotte -- this early 20th Century movie house, restored to its former glory after 47 years, is a glorious venue that will have patrons gasping in awe from the minute they walk through the front door. Every inch of the space is gorgeous, from the newly constructed exterior lobby to the lower level concessions lounge. And of course, there's the majestic auditorium itself, with its panoramic wall murals, dark red drapes and Greek-revival design, all coming together to transport you to a time when an evening at the movies was a grand occasion, not a test of your patience. We visited recently to enjoy a big-screen showing of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' during the Theater's Summer Blockbuster series. The sound and projection were both excellent, the attendants were friendly and helpful, and the concessions stand served up a surprisingly good selection of wine, liquor and local craft beers. Unfortunately, the seating in the balcony was stiff and uncomfortable, with very little leg room and and partially obstructed views. It feels like the seats up here were jammed in to maximize capacity, and our sightline from the second row was largely blocked by the people in front of us. I'd recommend paying extra for orchestra seats, or splurging for one of the VIP tables at the front of the balcony. Overall, I enjoyed our visit to the new Carolina Theatre -- it's a joy to have a venue like this in Uptown Charlotte, and we'll definitely be back. We might choose our seats a little more carefully, though -- or maybe bring a back pillow.

I had an amazing time at the Caroline theater. It was fun rewatching one of my favorite job, hidden movies on the big screen. The seats were comfortable and the prices of the concessions were affordable. There's no parking in front but there's a parking deck around the corner. My favorite part was the people dressed up walking around. And did I mention they had the ecto one there?! Amazon experience!

We've been here a few times for various concerts-performances over the years...most recently, for…read moreKing Crimson and Beethoven Symphony #5...and I've been meaning to write a review, so here goes. First of all, I really like this theater. Of course it's not as big as Blumenthal (Belk), but I love the size of this theater. Due to its size, you always get a good view of the stage wherever you sit (especially referring to the rows downstairs). Also, it's a really nice, clean theater (think renovated recently...but I could be wrong). One thing that could use some improvement is the spacing between the rows of seats. It's so tight, it's truly hard to get past folks in the same row...say, if you arrive a bit late, or is trying to get out! I also noticed that for the last visit, there were some chairs out in the lobby...Yay to that! Lastly, I also like the acoustics at this theater. Everything seems to be on point However, there are a few things that I found a bit offputting. For this last performance, they didn't 't allow any photography now (even without flash?)...which I don't quite get. I DID manage to take a few pics, but before the show started. Good thing...'cuz I didn't realize it was forbidden. Maybe I didn't know any better, but I recall taking pics during the performances in the past. Maybe it's a new policy...or maybe it depends on the performance?? Last thing I wanted to mention was that after the show, there's this sense that they want us out quickly...as in pronto! I don't understand why the place can't be more hospitable, and stay open for at least 30 minutes after the concert...so folks can chat, drink, etc.etc. I mean, it was Saturday night...and really not that late either! On this last concert (Beethoven Symphony #5), they sort of bum-rushed us out by 9:45 pm (concert ended at around 9:30 pm)...and I was basically the last person inside...Why? I was waiting for my husband to pick me up in the car, and I didn't want to stand outside in the cold. Well, at 9:45 pm, I noticed that I was the last one in the place, and the ushers were sort of giving me the eye...basically bum-rushing me out! WOW. I don't recall that happening at any other late-night venue in town...where folks are encouraged to leave only 10-15 minutes, following a concert. So anyway, that's my take on the place. 5 stars for the space, cleanliness and acoustics...but 2 stars for service (not sure how I'd describe this rushing folks out part lol!). Since I'm a fan of this theater, I'll still drop 4 stars...but just wanted to mention that I'm NOT a fan of the near-rude service after the performance.

The ambiance early in the evening is relaxed outdoor seating needs to update the benches they're not comfortable and the woods starting to warp but, decent music, and a solid cocktail menu. It's the kind of place where you can actually hear your conversation and enjoy the atmosphere without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. However, as the night progresses and the vibe shifts into more of a "clubby" scene which ended up being a perfect combo but let's talk charges.. feels steep for what's essentially a modest venue without standout features. Drink prices were high like the cover but not in a way that reflects upgraded quality or service. For the area, there are other spots offering more for the same price or even less but with cozy comforts and inside seating, nicer facilities so it's easy to find things not to love if you come here to support a DJ friend like I did than pay the cover and mingle. It's not a bad place by any means, and the early lounge experience is definitely a highlight followed up with the banging DJ club scene after...it's just the paying premium rates for a relatively average experience for me.
