This is a beautiful theater that has a nice atmosphere. No gremlins here as far as I can tell. The restrooms are a bit outdated in the sense that there are the old small knob sinks. You'll need hand-sani after you wash up unless you turn off with a paper towel. They do have hand-sanitizer out as well. The staff were plentiful and friendly. I went to see Marc Broussard which really has nothing to do with the theater but the space is small enough to be almost intimate and yet it could still handle the louder stuff. I'd definitely come back! read more

Great spot for an intimate engagement. I've seen both concerts and author lectures here and both felt like I was hanging out in my living room, enjoying the event with a few hundred of my closest friends. Acoustics for concerts are good and visibility for authors is great no matter what seat you're in. Speaking of seats... They're pretty comfy and offer decent leg room (says the 5'4 chick). Be sure to look around/up while you're there. The stained glass windows are beautiful! The bathrooms could use an update, but since they're in the foyer/shared space, I'm not sure McGlohon could gut them even if they wanted to. read more

Being a fan of the smaller theater's I love McGlohon because of not only the size of the theater but also the friendly staff, the proximity to easy parking and the same amenities that the larger theaters have. The outside of the theater doesn't say much. It looks like the entrance to a modern style building that is snuggled next to an older Church entrance. When you enter the actual theater you can see the West wall adorned with stain glass windows making for a picturesque atmosphere. This theater serves some light refreshments, beer, wine and some cocktails (cash bar) and the easiest place to park is 7th Street Station which is a two block walk. There aren't as many restaurants on this end of Tryon as you would see further South. read more

Color me impressed. This place oozes charm and history. The stained glass windows and the red velvet seats (although a bit worn here and there) really set a welcoming atmosphere. The best part is the size - small and intimate which really makes for an incredible live entertainment experience. There really isn't a bad seat in the whole place! We had third row seats to a comedy show (only $27 each) and I spent the first 10 minutes star struck at how close we were! Add to that - craft beer, wine and snacks in the lobby that you can bring into the theater with you. $5 parking exit passes sold in the lobby and plenty of helpful ushers to get you to your seats. Went to this theater last Friday to see Cruel Intentions: The 90's Musical. First off, if this show comes back, RUN...do not walk to get tickets! The music, timing, cast, and satire was utter amazing and made for a great girls night out! The theater used to be an old church and they did a beautiful job of preserving the gorgeous stained glass windows. It is a very intimate area, best for small shows. Far stage right/left can lead to obstructive views, but overall there isn't a bad seat. There are two sets of restrooms which make intermission bathroom breaks quick. The bar is centrally located outside the theater. They offer a wide mix of wine/beer/bubbly/liquor and small snacks. Also offered is a double pour of wine/bubbles/liquor if you want it! REMEMBER TO PRE-ORDER FOR INTERMISSION and avoid the drink lines! read more

McGlohon is an amazing small theater with friendly staff and easy parking. It's a beautiful theater that I've been too many times since high school. It's a very small theater and a great place to watch a live concert. It's so small that you get a great view no matter where you sit. I've sat on the balcony and down below and both shows sounded great. You enter through a modern glass doorway that's next to a church. They have lite refreshments during shows. The sound is great and you can't go wrong with where you sit. If you get the chance to see any band or show here you won't be disappointed. It has old school theater chairs that are very comfortable. read more

Whether I am enjoying a jazz show, a dance recital or a small stage play, it is a pleasant affair at McGlohon. I enjoy perusing the galleries and architecture before the shows. The women's restrooms are kept presentable which is always a plus. My only issue with McGlohon is that you have to linger in the lobby before the doors open maybe 30 minutes before showtime. Otherwise, they won't let you in. This can be a problem with open seating but all of the seats have a great view of the stage, unless someone tall or with a hat sits in front of you. I cannot speak for the balcony as I have never been up there. Tip: The facade photo is helpful for those who have never been to McGlohon. It would definitely have helped me on my first visit. read more

Went to open mic night and loved it. An inspirational event. Showcased what amazing talent we have here in the Charlotte area. We saw dancing, multiple singers from all ages, poets, and musicians just to name a few. This event is free to attend and highly recommend checking one out. This is a great little theatre. I have been to several theaters here in Charlotte and this is very similar to most. It has a great reception area for a drink before the show. I think this waste first time sitting in the balcony. I was on the right side and there were definitely parts of the stage I couldn't see. But over all it was a great experience. The parking lot near the theatre was full so we parked at the 7th street station which was only $5 because no other events were going on. It was only a block away. read more

I have such mixed feelings about this place, the staff were all so friendly! I guess I forgot to ask where exactly are seats were. The tickets were a gift, so I can't complain about that. However, it was shocking that you have to go up four flights of stairs, yes 4 flights to the balcony. And there's no bathroom up there. Not surprising in this old of a theater the seats are very close together, so I have longer legs and it was quite uncomfortable. The theater is quint, pretty & well taken care of. The view from the balcony was also good. read more

Wow...what a gem i've missed. I've been in Charlotte for years, but never realized this place was here. We stumbled upon this place and the Marc Cohn concert by accident. It was fantastic. This is a relatively intimate setting. We were 3 rows from the stage, and felt as though we could reach out and touch the performers. The acoustics here are also outstanding. I expect any seat in this theater will work nicely. Its also beautiful inside with stained glass windows. They also serve beer, wine, and alcoholic drinks before the show and at intermission. Not sure if you an bring this into the theater or not. Excellent venue. read more

The McGlohon Theater is a really nice, medium-sized performance space. I saw "Much Ado About Nothing" there in the summer during the free Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. The McGlohon in Spirit Square was a great venue for the well-done play. There are tables that each seated a couple people near the stage, and standard seating after that. The theater had an intimate atmosphere, and the actors really used the whole space for the performance. I'd recommend seeing shows there. read more

I came here last night to see the Post Secret Live show. (It was amazing, check out post secret). But this theatre is amazing! It's a very intimate little space, I have no idea how many people it fits (Yelpers say 700+). The stained glass is really beautiful! The McGlohon has such a good feeling, very warm and inviting. The staff was very friendly and helpful. One of the super sweet ushers told us that once the lights went down, we could move closer. She even scoped out awesome seats for us! The theatre is located in Spirit Square, just one block up from the 7th st parking garage. ($5 parking after 5pm!). There are a ton of restaurants close by, and easy access to the light rail. I had such a great experience here. I've only ever been to the Belk theatre, and didn't know anything about the McGlohon when I purchased the tickets. I'd absolutely recommend it, and will be back. read more

What an intimate character-filled former church turned theatre! I have only seen a few concerts and a comedy show within these hallowed walls, but all events have been fantastic! Standard Blumenthal pricing is in effect when it comes to the concessions. Don't forget the always affordable five dollar parking rate. Just be sure to park in the designated garages! The last event one of the ushers was confused about where our seats were, but most of them are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, even though there are some sight line issues which they warn you about when ordering tickets. Get your tickets and enjoy a show today! read more

I attended an event here the other night and was very much impressed with this space. A repurposed church with its original dome and stained glass windows, the McGohon manages to retain its old atmosphere while still being a very nice, not-at-all shabby theatre and stage. It's small enough that really no seat is a bad seat, and the mezzanine level adds an additional area for seating and visual interest. We caught a show here the other night, and this place is awesome. It's not the largest theater ever--it seats about 730, or so it says--but it's definitely one of the most unique: this intimate space, I'm told, the former First Baptist Church, and it shows--there's still stained glass windows and a large Byzantine dome above you. Just a really cool place to check out a show or a performance. "Intimate" really describes this place well. You're really close to the stage, no matter where you sit; it's just not that big. The balcony is even a lot closer to the front than most theaters I've been in. That's where we sat, and it was a really cool viewing experience: high above the first level, but still really close to (on top of, almost) the main stage. Great sound and lighting features here, too, which made the show most enjoyable. We were allowed to bring drinks into the theater, which was really cool. Everyone seemed a little buzzed for the performance, so there was a really good vibe. Great place, definitely going back. read more

Exceptional performance space in uptown Charlotte! I have enjoyed many performances in McGlohon Theater and spirit square. They have excellent artists and the ticket Prices are affordable. I love the balcony in McGlohon and the old stained glass windows, from when the building was a church in the olden days. The stage is very close to the chairs and when you sit in the balcony you have an amazing time!! I have seen several musicians while seated in the balcony and it was wonderful! Typically they serve local craft beers and some wines and some liquor drinks in the lobby. They also have had interesting art exhibits in their lobby. I appreciate this entertaining space and it's definitely a favorite in the Queen City! You're also across the street and in walking distance from several restaurants uptown. I typically suggest parking in 7th Street deck since it's a short one block away from the theater. read more

I enjoyed my experience at the McGlohon theater. My friend and I attended a concert here and it was small enough to give that intimate setting without it feeling like we were sitting on top of one another. We parked in the 7th Street garage, which if you can't park in the small lot that they is a great deal. Inside the theater is gorgeous, there's stain glass windows which are so lovely. The seats were comfy, the stage is small and the acoustics were awesome. What more can you ask for? I'd make it a point to check out another show here! read more

This is a beautiful little theater and it is nice for an intimate event. It is a little dated and the seats are tight and if the event is full you can feel like you are sitting on top of your neighbor. Attended the National Inclusion Project 2013 Gala at the McGlohon Theatre. The Holiday Inn, Charlotte is very close to this theatre if you are looking for a hotel to stay in. I like the coolness in the theatre. Also, the acoustics was not too bad. I sat near the sound booth at the back and wishes the sound man would be quieter as I can hear him giving instructions. read more

I really enjoy seeing shows here. I know I've been here many times in my life but the other night we went for a comedian. The venue is large but the seating is situated so that I'd imagine anywhere you sit would be fine with good views and acoustics. Because it's a former church, there are many stained glass windows which gives it a lot of character. The lobby and other areas of the building are classy and lots of art is on display. read more

An incredibly beautiful venue to enjoy a show! Transformed from an old church, McGlohon Theater provides an intimate feel in a medium sized setting. The seating is bit tight for those of us that require a bit more space, but the view and proximity to the stage are perfectly arranged. The accoustics couldn't get much better. The harmonics achieve a cohesiveness as they resonate throughout the entire theater. There is also a bar in the lobby that offers libations to warm up before and during a show. Located in Uptown, McGlohon Theater offers easy access to a handful of places to grab a bite to eat before or after a show. Parking is also easy to find and quite reasonable. read more

Saw Adam Ant here the other night. It really is a beautiful venue, and the show was great overall, but they had some serious sound issues that night. The opening band's vocals just couldn't be heard and no one could seem to solve the problem. The decibel leveis on Adam Ant were possibly the loudest I've ever experienced in McGlohon, which is usually pretty good about giving you the rock and roll experience while keeping everything physically safe for middle-aged ears. read more
