Sean the captain and Hadden the crew mate were fantastic!! We went out to a sand bar and had a blast. It's something I've never done but wow what fun! Hadden is an expert in the fish and ocean and was able to answer all of our questions. He also gave us plenty of great information. We couldn't have asked for more. They fed us some snacks and had cold water available for drinking. If you want something stronger than water you'll have to bring it yourself. We were on the cruise with some other guys who were also staying at The Island House, gay men's resort. I definitely recommend this trip. The guys will take great care of you. We got to see dolphins playing in the water and a type of manta ray. read more

I've been on the BluQ before, but it's probably been a good 7 or 8 years. I was surprised to hear that they've been around for 30 years, which is no surprise given how fun it is. This trip was no exception. We had the perfect day on the water for some snorkeling and sandbar fun. Captain Smalls was an excellent host, both fun and professional. The boat always seems to attract a great group of diverse guys, who we had a lot of fun chatting with. The vessel itself is well maintained and very clean. The fresh fruit and snacks were a bonus. We've traveled to Key West for nearly twenty years and gone out on the Q many times. Each trio is unique due to the guests but more so Mother Nature. Today there were an abundance of jellyfish at the reef. We snorkel a period but when Captain Nick could tell most of us were done due to Mother Nature he moved the Q to a sandbar. To be honest I didn't know how much I'd enjoy hanging out at a sandbar but it was great fun. Like a big swimming pool with your feet in the sand a gentle waves. We went on the Blu Q catamaran ride on Sunday, May 5, 2019. It was not as good as it was hyped up to be. First the captain did not let any of us have any alcohol for about 90 minutes and my partner and I are responsible casual drinkers and all we wanted to do is have one of the beers that we brought in our cooler. You are allowed to bring your own alcohol. The music on the way to the sandbar was extremely boring, and there was even some country music being played, it was certainly not a party atmosphere. Unfortunately, many of the guys on our boat were overweight and hung over, not exactly anybody you want to see naked on a gay excursion. We made a very short stop along the way to the sandbar to do some quick snorkeling, sadly one of guys that decided to go snorkeling was hung over and had a panic attack because he started swallowing too much water and he had to be rescued by the first mate and brought back to the boat. The captain had to do an evaluation on him to see if he had to turn the boat around and bring him back. He almost ruined the entire trip for all of us, and he certainly brought the mood down even more. We finally made it to a sandbar but the water was 5 feet deep, not quite as low as we were hoping, but it was beautiful and the water was refreshingly cool considering the heat index was 100° +. After we were on the sandbar for a little bit the captain served us lunch, it was not that good. It consisted of very salty pulled pork and some cheap coleslaw and pasta salad and either Coors light or Miller light beer and some cheap wine. Luckily we brought our own sandwiches and drinks. On the way back the music got a little bit better and the view coming back into Key West was very nice, but overall the trip was not worth the $110 per person and was certainly not a fun party excursion with hot guys. read more

This was at least my 5th trip on the BluQ. When I heard it had been sold I was really worried about the experience and the new owner. However, I was not disappointed!!!! Everything was incredible!!! I liked the fact that you could bring your own beverages, that worked out extremely well. The only thing I didn't like was the lunch. I understand the owner is a health nut but that shouldn't be imposed on everyone. I miss the pork sandwiches and the nice lunch Steve used to serve. As far as the staff goes.... OMG Nick was the best captain I have ever had. He was personable, knowledgeable and fun. We had 2 first mates, Greg and Will. They were both the best of the best. They made everyone feel like they were their best friends and worked hard to ensure everyone had an incredible time!!!! If you are in Key West you don't want to miss the BluQ!!! Blu Q is a clothing optional, men only sea cruise on Key West. We found them while staying at the Equator. I was nervous before going on the catamaran for two reasons: a. I've never been snorkeling. b. I have never been naked in an ocean Captain Scott and first mate Moe are the best .They put me at ease and made us comfortable. Service on the boat is what service at a fancy restaurant would be. Moe took good care of us and the captain made a mean salad for lunch. Moe took us to a coral reef far away from all the other tourist people and we had a blast. It was my first time snorkeling and he completely put me to ease. I was doing it like a pro after the first 2 minutes. Thanks, Moe. I saw some beautiful tropical fish, a barracuda, and a jelly fish. It is the most beautiful sight I've seen. Captain and Moe then took us to a secluded beach and we swam naked in the water for a long time. It was exhilarating. Contrary to popular belief the fish do not think your penis is a bait. So, you can happily jump in to the water. The trip was 5 hours long. Towards the end I felt like I have been on vacation for 2 weeks (even though I was on vacation for only 2 days). Never mind the free drinks and being pampered and then to actually watch the sunset from an excellent view point the captain picked... I am just stunned! WELL WORTH EVERY PENNY! The captain catered to what are little grouped asked of him and we were allowed to get into the water a few feet off the shore of a small island. This is THE way for gay visitors to get out on the water in Key West. My husband and I went on the "all-day" snorkeling trip and had an absolute blast. The Captain and Mate were as nice as could be, were so much fun, knowledgeable, and went out of their way to show us a great time. The Blue Q, by the way, is gay owned and operated - unlike many of the more commercial, money-oriented charters that pander to the community - and the difference shows. The boat was very well equipped, with plenty of shaded areas, easy stairway access to the water and an ability to get into very shallow waters. The snorkeling stop was in a perfect spot, (I didn't snorkel, but just bobbed around in the water, enjoying the scene), and we later stopped at a barely submerged sand bar where all the boys cocktailed in the water. When a school of dolphins made a visit, the captain even stopped the boat so we could interact. Lunch was decent too. Just perfect. Our group, my the way, was a nice mix and, with most of the guys, (including the crew), deciding to go nude, there was some pretty scenery. We'll make this a tradition when we go to Key West. read more

The BluQ provides an amazing all-day aventure. First, the sails went up for a beautiful sail in 75 degree weather. The water around Key West is a beautiful blue-green -- and you can see right to the bottom in many parts. After sailing and some banter with the welcoming crew and captain, we recieved a lesson in snorkeling. Yes, snorkeling. This meant not only would I be swimming off a boat in the ocean waters, but I would be gearing up to take a look at marine life just below my feet. The water was a "cool" 73 degrees to the locals. Being from the Northeast ocean waters of 73 is like a bath! As soon as I hit the water I was able to quickly become comfortable and master the snorkel gear. We headed off for the nearby Mangrove Reef. There were many types of fish just feet away -- including some striking blue fish, and some yellow and black striped fish. After the snorkeling adventure, we learned to kayak. I had never kayaked before and I thought it looked easy. It was quite a workout going against the tide coming from around Mangrove Island. Once reaching the island, we traveled through series of Mangrove threes with their intertwined roots. After an afternoon of high adventure, we set sail again and enjoyed the great warm breeze and some sunbathing. In between the day's activities were fresh fruit, cookies and a delicious lunch. The captain tried out a new recipe on us -- and the chicken, pesto, sun dried tomato sandwiches definitely hit the spot. I highlyy recommend this day trip on the BluQ - I will be back! read more

We were on the Blu Q two concurrent days - we did an evening 4th of July cruise and a daytime snorkeling/sandbar cruise. Both were special experiences. The 4th of July cruise was awesome. The boat was completely full, and the crew and other guests were all extremely friendly and welcoming. The setting was very romantic, and I enjoyed the all-gay setting more than I did the mixed clipper ship sunset cruise we did a few years before. Food on the ship was great, drinks flowed easily. Definitely worth doing - with the fireworks or without. The sandbar/snorkeling cruise was a different, but still great experience. The weather was beautiful, and the captain did a great job of steering us away from nasty weather. The scenery was amazing. I enjoyed the clothing optional aspect as well - both partaking and enjoying the view! We were out on the ocean for the better chunk of the day, and it was a great time. I was sad when we came back into port. Definitely would recommend to others. read more

The BluQ has been sold to new owners. Capt Steve does not own or operate it anymore. The new owners are rather coy about this fact. They also happen to be straight. As such, it is not the same experience whatsoever. So brace yourself for clothes, BYO liquor, vegan platters, and ladies - lots of ladies. Obviously nothing wrong with any of that - just not what was expected. In my opinion they should rebrand the boat or at least rebrand the trips that aren't consistent with BluQ historical reviews here. read more
