We reserved a table for the Foodie Friday for July 17th at 5:15 pm.  I called the day prior to confirm that indoor seating was available due to the heavy smoke in the area and my wife having asthma we wanted to be sure we were indoors.  We were told all online reservations receive inside seating.  When we arrived we were told we could sit outside or at the bar, that all the tables were reserved.   After explaining we made reservation's and our situation again we were told we could sit at a table as long as we were done by 6:30.  That made us feel small and insignificant.  After some back and forth we opted to just sit at the bar.   Once we sat ourselves at the bar an individual started poring some white wine into two glasses, I'm not a white wine drinker, so I said no white for me please.  She proceeded to say she would not be our server, which was odd, considering she just poured wine without even inquiring about why we were here or what we liked.  Then we sat at the bar waiting for service for nearly 10 minutes before someone else came to ask if we were being helped.   We were never told that the food wine paring did not include any wine, the menu with wine listed next to each item was just a suggestion and everything was à la carte.  However if we wanted to taste anything we were welcome to do so... so why not just give a sample of the wine that pairs with each of the food items!   When we explained why we were there to the individual who did wait on us, that would have been a good time to explain that everything was à la carte.  All of our food items, salad, main course and desert came out all at the same time, which was odd, we really didn't have enough room at the bar with all those items at the same time.  It wasn't until we inquired about tasting the wine that goes with the dessert that we would have to "pay a separate additional charge for another glass" that we learned about the wines being à la carte. Not sure why we were treated so negatively at the start, but I asked the gentleman about how we thought the wine pairings with the food was a little odd to us, his response was, "well people may not want to have what the suggested pairing."  Okay got it! We did notice the chief visited the customers sitting at the tables, but not us, again feeling insignificant that were not worthy of her time. But then again we were the only ones sitting at the bar eating, or drinking for that matter.  Maybe the manager, owner, or whoever greeted us was not having a good day. Still very disappointing that we never felt welcomed. Their wines might be good, but we really never got that far and our mood was not in a good place. I recommend just trying their wine, don't do the Friday Foodie event. read more

Beautiful summer day to escape the hectic TC Cherry Festival crowd and head to wine country! We wanted to check out a couple new wineries. First on the list was Bluestone. Beautiful rolling hills, countryside setting among their vineyards and fruit trees. We enjoyed a glass of their Pinot Grigio 2022, and a glass of their Rose, both of which were very good. Small plates are offered. We opted for the Ricotta and Honey served with a warm mini baguette. Would recommend checking them out if traveling in the Traverse City/Suttons Bay/Northport area. With a reservation for 6-8 made by our amazing tour service we only experienced grief at Blustone Vineyard. Paul the GM informed us there was no room for our entire party of 8. That was quickly changed by Chris our server who magically appeared with 2 chairs to accommodate our group. Chris is a terrific advocate for the vineyard We stayed and enjoyed the experience but I personally will not return or spend additional money here. There are many options on the Peninsula where you are met with a welcome and friendly demeanor - seek that out. read more

As we drove up and arrived, we were amazed. The fall colors perfectly framed the modern contemporary look of the winery. So many wineries go with a more Tuscan/rustic feel and Blustone takes it in a better direction. We loved the building with the expansive views of the vineyards, and fall color scenery. Joey was our sommelier and she was phenomenal. She was very knowledgeable about the wines and took her time explaining the different flavors and notes of the various wines we tasted. She made it a great winery experience, and we loved her clear enthusiasm for wine. We purchased quite a few bottles to bring back to North Carolina. Beautiful beautiful! A lovely, modern building in the middle of a fab vineyard. The building itself is practically all glass (floor to ceiling windows) which supplies pretty amazing views of the vineyard. There are tables along the windows as well as seating outside if you'd prefer some fresh air. My mom and I came in for a simple tasting so we didn't get any glasses or snacks to enjoy on the seating but it's on the to-do list for next time, for sure. Instead we decided to do a quick tasting. They offer one complimentary tasting (a Riesling when we were there) plus paid tastings to follow. Admittedly I forgot how much it runs but basically it's by 3s (so, 3, 6, 9, etc). We weren't looking to drink very much so we just did 3 each and I sampled the Connexion (cherry dessert wine that they pair with dark chocolate), Gewurztraminer (a spiced white wine) and the Pinot Grigio. It's easy to taste why these wines have won so many awards--they are GOOD. The dessert wine and the Gewurztraminer in particular wowed me and I bought a bottle of each (as did my mom). Wines are priced well given the quality (the Connexion being the most expensive given the smaller bottle). I'd venture to say it's probably one of my favorite vineyards in the area now. Looking forward to a return with a little more time to kill so I can enjoy a full glass on their beautiful property. read more

This winery used to be a favorite destination up north. We met the owner several years ago and have enjoyed the beautiful outdoor area.We visited midweek and brought friends to do some wine tasting. When we walked and requested a tasting - the six of us were directed to a table behind the fireplace, even though there were six open seats at tasting bar. Menus were dropped on the table with no explanation of the offerings. A server came by several minutes later and asked for what we wanted - given we were not going to get the service we expected from past experiences - five of us ordered glasses of wine. Again, no review of the wines, grapes, wine making, harvest or business at this beautiful location. Wine arrived on tray and we were told here is your bill and it's x dollars. We paid and no one ever returned to our table. Very disappointing. read more

Only 2 options for tasting. Service was disappointing - asked questions about the wines and was provided with short and curt responses. On one pour of our tasting we watched as the remaining wine in the bottle be poured down the drain vs just pouring that wine in our glasses. The tasting room is beautiful. A modern room with a high ceiling and large floor to ceiling windows that provide views of the vineyards. Outside is a patio area with chairs where you can take a glass of wine. They have three snack options as well, we tried the hummus and veggies. The hummus was a locally made hummus with a bit of pesto. The staff was friendly and knowledgable and did an excellent job with the tasting presentation. They explained the wines and gave suggestions. Our group liked the wines we tasted and we had a variety of tastes in our group. The building is modern and clean and there is a nice view of the vineyards from the tasting room. We ordered a charcuterie board to go alongside our wine.
