Among the many vineyards in Leelanau & Old Mission Peninsulas, Boathouse is a relative newcomer. Over the years we've done tastings at many Vineyards & often found the whites rather sweet & the reds not notable at all. Not HERE!! We had heard that reds were really making g headway in Leelanau & Boathosue is leading the way. Even their 2022 Chardonnay is quite lovely with notes of oak and spices. Meanwhile, I was take. Aback at how lovely their reds are. Fruity yet balanced & delicious. Their 2022 Pinot noir was wonderful with montmorency tart cherry notes. Yum! The 2020 Boathouse Red bursts with berries but not at all overpowering. Finally the 2021 Cab Franc was solidly balanced. Ask for John & go! read more

It's a beautiful place right on the water at the narrows of Lake Leelanau. They have a big back yard where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine. When we were there last year there was three guitar players on the porch, singing and playing their favorite songs. It was fun. There was a band scheduled for latter on that day but we weren't able to make it. We had a glass of wine and moved on to another winery. read more

This is a wonderful winery with a great outdoor space near the water to watch the boats pass by. I had a glass of their Resiling and my husband had a cider. We both really enjoyed our drinks and loved hanging out in the backyard area. We also got one of their cheese spreads and crackers to snack on. The spread was really yummy but the crackers were some kind of rice cracker that we weren't huge fans of. But it did the trick to hold us over until dinner! My only complaint is I wish they (and other businesses in the area) were open a bit later to enjoy the evening here as we definitely would have come back and hung out for the evening. Definitely worth a stop!! read more

We stopped in for a flight and left with a bottle. The scenery here is also nice and there was a heated back porch overlooking the water. This was a great place to go relax and have some wine. My wife really enjoyed the sweeter wines they had. The girl at the counter was also very friendly and answered all of our questions about the area. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by this beautiful and friendly vineyard after we visited Fishtown nearby. Carol, our host was the hostess with the mostest. She made sure we were well taken care during our visit. We were the only patrons on a Tuesday afternoon and we sat on the patio (with heaters) looking at a soothing river (we think it's part of Lake Leelan). We visited a few wineries in the area and we have to admit their white wines were the best, particularly their bubbles, Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Ciders. The pricing for these wines was more than reasonable compared to other wineries we've visited. We have been pretty spoiled by Californian wines for many years and had the opportunity to visit France and Italy's wine regions, this vineyard is a must visit if you are in Michigan, especially if you like white wines. read more

Can't beat the view of the narrows and of course the gorgeous swans that float by under the bridge! Good wines and easy to drink. Friendly staff that are knowledgeable about wine but not too pushy. We love to come here every summer when we visit Lake Leelanau! read more

I often like wineries with vineyard views but this one was special because of the River view of "The Narrows" the spot that connects to Lake Leelanau. Their is a beautiful nature preserve across the river to view birds and wildlife. Their back covered porch is very nice and was relaxing to sit on and look out over the river. It even has heaters for cooler months. Didn't like $15 for 3 tastes, but the glass of "Knot too Sweet" Resiling was delicious. Will visit again! Nice experience. read more

We loved our time at this vineyard! Their Boathouse Bubbly & Peach Cider were beyond delicious! The service and grounds were amazing! We drove all the way from Texas and enjoyed them so much we drove home with several bottles. Do yourself a favor and add this incredible vineyard to your bucket list!!! read more

This is a paid tasting. A newer tasting room, it was very basic. One room with a round wine counter in the middle. The staff knew their wines and were friendly. Out the back door is a porch and large yard that overlooks the canal. Boats can even pull up to their dock. You can bring your own food and sit on the porch with some wine. read more

We docked our boat right in the backyard of the Boathouse and sampled a few wines. Staff was really friendly and helpful. We ordered carry out from Dicks Pourhouse and brought it back to the Boathouse to enjoy with our bottle of wine. The staff even gave us a copy of the menu at Dicks and offered suggestions on ordering. We are looking forward to another visit on Sunday for their live music from 3-5!! read more

Great winery!! All of the wines were delicious and they are very reasonably priced. They have a beautiful view, right on thr river. We sat with the owner for a long while and talked about wines and up north living. He recommended we come back when the snow melts, kayak down the river and then come sit on his porch with a bottle of wine. He even suggested we bring a lunch or get a pizza from the place across the street. We will definitely be back! The merlot, Northern Lights and Pinot Giorgio were our favorites! read more

There are a lot of wineries to choose from in the area, but this one was one of the better ones. Great wine and all staff were very helpful in helping us to make selections. The best Pino Grigio I have ever tasted was here! I almost always drink bold reds but, their Grigio was light, crisp and full of flavor. Dave was super friendly and very informative. Very nice atmosphere and good white wines. The backyard Blythe narrows is a mellow place to hang out. They now have hard cider. I found it light, clean and excellent. They do charge for wine tastings. One star off because of unfriendly staff at my most recent visit who didn't seem to know whether they could fill outside growlers (they can and should) and took no steps to find out. She could simply have done it rather than giving me a hard time. read more

Oh my god I absolutely love this place. I sampled three of their wines and the raspberry hard cider and everything was so yummy but I tried the hard cider last and I fell in love! At first I wasn't sure which one I would buy but I ended up buying a growler of the cider instead & I'm so glad I did. Boathouse Vineyards is absolutely incredible and if you are lucky enough to have Nancy take care of you you will be in for quite a treat. My boyfriend and I were out for a kayak ride along the lake when we stumbled upon this tasting room. As California locals we spend more time than we should visiting wineries and touring vineyards. That said we couldn't pass up the chance to kayak up to a tasting room because really how often do you have that chance. Nancy greeted us and walked us through all the different options tastings vs glasses/bottles. She gave us history on the owner and told us about the vineyards (23 acres all estate grown grapes) and each wine. She suggested a few of her favorites and gave perfect descriptions of each one. We opt to do a tasting of a few of her suggestions and she couldn't have been more spot on. She then went the extra ten miles and gave us a map and her own personal guide of local wineries and restaurants to try. We ended up taking her up on suggestions and had an amazing dinner later that day with the best smoked whitefish pate (thank you, Nancy!). I can't say enough wonderful things about Nancy and the tasting room. The wines were so superb (especially the Chardonnay, Pinot noir, and cab franc) that we took a few bottles Togo. We would've taken a case but alas we were in kayaks. Thank you for the best tasting experience we've ever had! I wish we could give you ten stars! Nancy, we are looking forward to trying your Saskatoon pie next time we're around. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped here on the fourth of July. The tasting room is adorable and it's right on the river. They have a nice deck in back and have live music during the week, and a few chairs up closer to the river. So we tasted some very good wine, had a glass out in the sunshine on the river, and purchased a few bottles for later. The lady who helped with our wine tasting (Michelle, I think?) was very friendly and a delight. She offered to hold onto our bottles of wine while we enjoyed our glasses by the river. I decided on a bottle of the sparkling and their dessert wine, which is one of the best dessert wines I've ever had! I was planning on saving it, and when I was unpacking at home the next day I realized the bottle was leaking, there was an issue with the cork. I called and the lady I spoke to was very friendly, apologized and said she'd send a replacement in the mail right away. A week later I opened the box and was absolutely delighted to find not one but two bottles of what is now my favorite dessert wine! Well done Jan! I will be back there soon. We had great service and delicious wine. On top of that the location is gorgeous. Getting to look out at the water as we sipped rose on a hot day felt like paradise. We have 3 little kids and the outdoor space was great for them to play. They sat on the dock, watched the boats and looked for frogs. We visited this new Leelanau wine tasting room during its first week in business. It's located on The Narrows in Lake Leelanau, a busy canal for local pleasure boaters that is reminiscent of the Hessel/Cedarville area in the UP. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and relaxed; if you're put off by some of the more nose-in-the-air wineries in the area, the Boathouse will set you at ease. We very much enjoyed our tasting experience; several Boathouse wines have already won some prestigious awards in competition. I especially liked the Pinot Grigio and Dry Riesling; my partner liked the Seas the Day white table wine and Sweet Seaduction cherry dessert wine; we both liked the License to Chill Pinot Noir Rose', which is a yummy little patio wine. A bonus at this establishment is its large, shady back porch and walkway/dock down to the water; it's fun to sit, sip one's wine and wave at the passing boats. And -- another bonus -- Boathouse is near a popular food-friendly tavern, a well-regarded cafe'/entree-to-go kitchen and a new bakery that sells both sweet and savory goods; so it's very easy to pick up a nosh or a proper meal at any of these places, bring it along to the winery and have a picnic "out back" with your wine of choice. We really enjoyed our visit here, wish the owners well and encourage travelers to add the Boathouse to their Leelanau wine trail. read more
