Don't miss this spot! We tried on Saturday night without a reservation & I was sad when we couldn't get in. We went back late on Sunday, & they luckily had a table. Don't miss a chance to eat the reindeer roast! When I told our waiter, Tom, I was feeling adventurous and wanted to try something different, he recommended their reindeer roast. Let me just start by saying my goodness what a hidden gem this is. If our Airbnb was just down the street from the restaurant we likely would have never noticed it and I'm so happy we did even if it set the bar waaaay high for all of our other meals. My friends and I decided to have dinner here a bit late after arriving in Stockholm and although the place was nearly empty we were warmly welcome by our server. We ordered the reindeer stew, the fish casserole, and the three course meal (the only thing pictured unfortunately). We couldn't stop taking bites of each others food or decide which was best because everything was so uniquely amazing. Even the dessert of what was like a flourless chocolate cake was so good we had to order another. Once again our waiter was incredibly kind, welcoming, and has a great sarcastic charm. Amazing Swedish meal in a very cozy and welcoming environment. Perfect for a day of exploring the royal palace, Nobel Prize museum, or simply walking around Gamla Stan. I had a 3 course meal recommended by the staff and was also very fairly priced for a little less than 600 krona. Each item was amazing and it was as if each course was more remarkable than the last. These were one of the rare occasions that it felt like I went for it and embraced what my spontaneity had in store for me! Tucked away in the alleyways, I was very charmed to be doing the wine and dine here! Deer meat is a delicacy in Sweden so one must go with that and they conveniently offer the prix fix meal so you don't have to ponder on what to get! I do highly recommend going for it because the set meal was delectable! Our waitress has been there for years and recommended the Tempranillo reserva wine from Spain. It went smoothly well and definitely complimented the deer meat! Their creamy chanterelle soup served up, was a homely starter. Up next, was the deer meat cooked in red wine sauce, which was lightly gamey and tender. Every cut and bite should be eaten with the sun-dried lingonberries and rhubarb compote. The cheese flavored mashed potatoes, made the entree as a whole, complete. Last, but not least, to sweeten the palate, dessert was of white chocolate mousse, mixed in champagne, fragrant in elderflower and served with berries. In the heart of old town, the Kryp In is one of the best places you can eat. Frequently overlooked by the tourists walking by, plenty of locals will stop here for an excellent meal. Many have mentioned the bread basket and I agree, excellent. We came here for some local flavor at lunch. Swedish meatballs, reindeer and fish stew were on the menu. We order all of them and tasted. My wife and I each ordered the salmon entree. It came with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and sweet Orange beets. It was excellent. With it was a creamy orange sauce that enhanced the flavors of everything on the plate. I never had sweet beets before and these were wonderful. The fish was perfectly cooked, medium rare, juicy, and very flavorful. A variety of bread was included with a cream cheese spread. . The black Rye Swedish bread was excellent . We ate outside under the heat lamp which made it very comfortable despite the cool weather. The restaurant was full on a Monday night so I recommend reservations. They started off with a nice selection of bread and butter, which was nice. I ordered the pickled herring for my appetizer, which was served with diced egg, shrimp, red onions, and clarified butter. The clarified butter was a surprisingly nice touch. It gave the dish a lot of flavor and richness. Of course I had to order the reindeer entree. I have never had reindeer before. The preparation was delicious. It was extremely tender, served with mashed potatoes, gooseberry compote, and some micro greens on top. The flavor of reindeer is something I have never had. I went to Kryp In on a recommendation from a colleague. It is a pretty small restaurant down a small street with low ceilings and old pictures of Stockholm on the wall. At lunchtime it was a really relaxed, cozy atmosphere. Most of the tables were full and I expect when the place is at capacity, it can feel crowded. I had the Krämig renpasta (Reindeer roast beef penne pasta) and my friend had the Isterband från Sorunda (Swedish sour sausage from Sorunda). Both were very tasty and filling. The Reindeer penne pasta had the right amount of cream sauce on it. It was not drowning in it and mixed well with the Reindeer roast beef. I really enjoy it. The waiter was attentive and the food came out very quickly. The one misfire was the coffee my friend ordered after the meal never came. I will be back to the Kryp In when I return to Stockholm, but the next time for dinner and a bottle of wine. read more

We came here without making reservations on a Wednesday around 7 pm and were lucky. Also it didn't seem to be full. We got a feeling of the staff being stressed. I don't know why it wasn't due to too many guests anyway. We were seated by the window, being winter it was pretty cold so if you are sensitive and cold ask for a table away from window. Ok, we had chosen this place after Yelp-reviews and it could have been so good, if it hadn't been for the food. it was OK, but I guess I had too high expectations. Or just chose the wrong dishes. I had the Duck salad for starter - it was good but too "grassy" (too much salad). The Tournedos w pepper sauce as main - it was soso, too much pepper corns for me in the sauce. My company had the suggested 3-dish meal: Chantarelle soup, reindeer and cheese cake. He was very pleased with the soup and reindeer! The desserts, finally, were a huge disappointment - the cheesecake was not good at all (no sweetness, no flavour) but had a fun presentation (in a jar) and the creme brulee good but the pears was not in my flavour. The cheese cake we didn't even finish - and believe me when I say I am a sweet tooth that never ever leave dessert unless it's tasteless or bad. So, why the four stars still? First off, the server looked annoyed the whole time, maybe she had a bad day. The entrecôte (ribeye) was not tender at all and the sauce, a bit too salty. This was really highly recommended on yelp so we decided to give it a go. We went there at 5pm when it just opened for dinner service and were lucky they could accommodate us without a reservation. Overall the experience felt short of my expectations. They changed the set menu just 3 days ago so I was really disappointed as I was keen to try the entree and dessert. We got the set menu, fish soup, and veal burger (which is just a meat patty without buns). Set menu consisted of a lobster soup, reindeer, and chocolate mousse for dessert. Lobster soup was too salty and lacked the lobster taste that a good lobster bisque type soup would have. Reindeer was alright, but my mother found it too salty. I like gamey meats so this was fine, but not mind blowing. Dessert wasn't anything special but I suppose you can't really go too wrong with chocolate mousse and berries. It was a pleasant finish to an otherwise decent set menu. Fish soup was nice, nothing to write to mum about though as I've had better and cheaper fish soup elsewhere. Veal burger on the other hand was the best dish of the night! Imagine a giant meatball and that's what it was basically. So don't order this expecting a burger! Kryp In boasts the most authentic Swedish meal I've eaten in Sweden, and also one of the best. I was pretty shocked actually. This place is right in the heart of Gamla Stan in all places which by all accounts is the renown tourist trap with the mediocre restaurants in the heart of Stockholm. That said, Kryp In is tucked away on a small street that few would notice if they hadn't actually pursued it. First, the food. The menu is seasonal and changes with the meats, fish, and vegetables as they come in and out of season. I had the chance to tackle the winter menu which was rich in meats and starchy vegetables (potatoes). The chef took very traditional Swedish ingredients and brought the flavors out in the way only a very focused and strong-palated Swede would. With the lack of traditional dishes in the capital city, I was profoundly inspired by the meticulous detail the chef used in ensuring that the Swedish tradition was maintained. The atmosphere is fantastic. A very old building, with low ceilings in an almost cave like establishment. The service was great and the scene was that of locals and not of tourists (when I was there). I highly suggest taking out of towners here, as it's likely to be the closest to Swedish food they'll get to in Stockholm. However, it's a place to go to with local friends as well for a great mealand I would argue at a price that made it well worth it. read more

I'm rating the food only. The ambiance is really nice, 5 stars. I had their special for the night - a pea soup, the reindeer roast, and the chocolate mousse dessert. I also had a glass of recommended red wine. The soup was just bad. I'm 100% sure they put fish paste in it. Such a strange ingredient that they love here. The reindeer was good, not great. I only came here so I could say I've eaten reindeer. It tasted like prime rib, but with less flavor. No need to ever eat it again, beef tastes better. The chocolate mousse was ok as well. Not sweet enough once you get past the topping, which is a strange trend with many of the Swedish desserts I've tried. It seems they like an overly sweet topping with everything underneath almost not sweet at all. This was no exception. What's wrong with a happy medium of sweetness all the way through? The wine, which was European but not Swedish, was delicious. The bread they brought out as a complimentary appetizer was good, with the white bread option being the best of the variety they offered. The above came out to $77, which isn't that high for the ambiance, but it is high for what was just a pretty average meal. Great place for a date as far as ambiance. Also, great place to knock the "yeah, I ate reindeer once" item off of your bucketlist. read more

On our recent trip to Sweden, we knew we definitely wanted to try some authentic food in the old part of town. Using our trusty Yelp app, we saw very positive for the Krip In and were able to secure a resevation for a very warm and cozy evening meal within walking distance of our hotel. We were seated at a table for two in the back of the restaurant in a small alcove that fit 6 patrons at three tables. The entire restaurant seats no more than 30-40 guests. Perfect for an intimate mood. The mad Russian started with the smoked salmon appetizer and I had the onion soup. Great starters for the main courses that were to follow. She opted for the Char and I had the most unbelievable lamb I've ever eaten. As a matter of fact, the lamb in Northern Europe is the best kept secret there is. So soft and succulent, you can cut it with a fork. I'm convinced that I'll never have better unless I make the return trip. Top those off with a couple of martinis and elder cucumber cocktails, and we had one of the best meals in a long, long time. Two servers made sure we had whatever we needed and were beyond friendly and helpful. A perfect compliment to a truly memorable meal. read more

On our last night in the city, my dining partner and I were looking for a place that served traditional Swedish food (non gastronomic, as we had done that on previous nights). Our concierge immediately phoned the Kryp In with his doubts ("I don't think they will have a table, unfortunately...") but he somehow made it happen, (Tak, Sean at Hotel Rival!). It is a teeny tiny place, which was a little difficult for my dining partner, as he is more than 1.9 meters tall, but he managed to "crawl in" to the "nook" (get it?). A very intimate atmosphere. The chanterelle soup was really delicious. Rich and warm. I got the duck. It was served with some kind of mashed potatoes (but I'm pretty sure it wasn't potatoes), some berries (they were blue, not ligonberries), and some greenery. It was hearty and rich and delicious. My dining partner got the cod. It must have been fantastic, because his plate was swept clean. Service was a bit sterile but very professional; I'm not sure if it is the service style of the house or because unfortunately like most Americans we can't speak Swedish. All in all, great meal. We highly recommend Kryp In. If you are traveling to Stockholm, don't wait til the last minute like us; make a reservation in advance so you don't miss out. read more

I rarely eat red meat - I don't have much of a taste for it and it often gives me a stomach ache - but when in Sweden, do as the Swedes do: so I decided to try some reindeer while I was here last year. Other yelp reviewers were singing the praises of the reindeer at Kryp In, so I dropped in. They were right! It's tender and delicious and, paired with the mashed potatoes and the berries and marmalade, it sings. As i was leaving, I made a reservation for the following night. Absolutely outstanding. I have been eating herring for many years. The truth is, I eat a bite here or there. I usually find it too sour and salty. Their warm herring appetizer was outstanding. I ate every bite. Their breads were house baked and each was excellent. I ordered reindeer. It was perfectly prepared and the mushroom sauce enhanced the meat which was very good by itself.
