How was your dinner? It was OK. He says with a slight shrug. That is really the best way to describe the experience we had. OK....With a slight rug. Based on the location and the signage/logo, I was expecting a much more hip, modern, trendy feel. In reality, I thought the restaurant was really dark and generic. It was also very cold as the curtains separating the front door from the interior of the restaurant never seem to remain closed. The menu is also OK, with a slight shrug. There really isn't anything memorable about the menu or the food, once you get it. I add a pizza which was OK. There was nothing really great about it nor was there anything particularly bad about it. This is a restaurant which I can't particularly say we will ever intentionally go. I feel bad saying that, as well. I love locally owned restaurants but in this case, I really hope they do something different to separate them selves. Also...the men's bathroom...uh... what is with the see-through plastic shower door being used to separate the toilet from the rest of the bathroom. That was terrible. read more

This is a nice place that feels like a mom and pop restaurant. They have bands that play several nights a week but I have not felt it was too load to have a conversation. The food is very good bordering on great, they have a large variety to choose from. The craft beer selection and specialty drinks are a plenty! Bo Mac's had been on the list to try for a while now, but what got us in the door this summer was their Pups on the Patio events. They have a modestly sized outdoor area with lawn space and murals. During Pups on the Patio, folks can bring their dogs for socializing, photos, and treats (Kaitlyn's Pupcakes + Barkpocket dog beer) while they enjoy face painting, live music, and adult beverages under the sun. The event also features dogs for adoption through Adopt-a-Pal Rescue. Service outside gets a little chaotic, but the staff are well equipped to handle larger crowds. Haven't explored the interior other than the bathroom, which is cleaner than other divey bathrooms and features eclectic decor. Despite their location in Czech Village, street parking has been breezy on both visits. The food menu offers a little something for everyone and holds up to similar style restaurants in town. Personally, I've tried the avocado bruschetta and the fried green tomato sandwich with sweet potato fries and was not disappointed. read more

What a fun bar/ dining establishment! We have been wanting to try Bo Mac's for quite some time and finally crossed it off the list! The environment is nice - we went on a Saturday night expecting it to be packed/ loud, but it was maybe 1/2 capacity and tables are spread out enough that you can enjoy your conversations without difficulties hearing! Menu is southern-based. We love southern food and there are not many places in CR that offer southern! I had a creole chicken wrap - great flavors, fresh ingredients, and the fries were FABULOUS! My only suggestion for the menu is maybe some po'boys?! Great local beer menu - wide variety of offerings! This may be one of our new go-to(s) for a laid back date night! read more

New restaurant on 16th Avenue in Little Bohemia serving a nice variety of foods in a nicely furnished spot. The decor of the historic building is allowed to bathe the diner in a atmosphere that neither screams retro or trendy, rather it is a setting for a nice meal, which it should be. Some places make the dining room atmosphere the experience, while the food is secondary. Bo Macs gets both ends of the game to blend for an enjoyable time. The menu features a variety of appetizers, none of which we tried. The burger and sandwich menus offer a variety not often found in many places. I had the Creole Chicken Sandwich which I did not even try to eat as a sandwich, knife and fork was the way to go. The portion was very large, and very juicy. The upgraded side of Bo Mac fries went well with the sandwich. A dining companion had the breaded tenderloin sandwich that was prepared to perfection. Other diners had the Fried Green Tomato and Grilled Cheese sandwich with a side order of potato pancakes. They both enjoyed their selection. There is a stage for live entertainment on occasion, but we were there on a night where a nice mix of blues played in the background, not intrusive at all. The noise of the diners was not loud, even though there was a decent sized amount of patrons in the restaurant. The service was very nice and orders were taken promptly with enough time to scan the menu. While no one in our party opted for one, there was a nice mix of dinner entrees, many featuring steak and fish. Pizzas were also available, so the mix of options was pleasing while not being overwhelming. I would definitely return to try more of the food. read more

Wow!!! This place is amazing. This place was busy during lunch on a Wednesday and now I know why. We started with an order of fried green tomatoes. And by "We" I really mean "I" because I ate all of them. They were absolutely delicious. The breading was perfect. The tomatoes were juicy and full of flavor. Next was the grilled Reuben with beer battered fries. Not only did it taste amazing, it looked great on the plate. The fries were fried to a perfect crisp. My only complaint (and its a small one) was the service was a little slow, BUT like I said it was pretty busy on a Wednesday lunch hour. Okay here's the tea I came into Bo Macs with low expectations because all people had told me was how good the tenderloin was. Nothing against the tenderloin I just never have really loved them. Now let me tell you why it exceeded every expectation I had... We ate at the bar and had an amazing bartender named Amanda who was very attentive and gave an outstanding recommendation. Because of her I ordered the special Surf and Turf Medium Rare and even got the potato pancakes per her recommendation. The steak came out cooked to perfection with tons of flavor and the potato pancakes are something I will be dreaming about in the future. The atmosphere was simple and cute very homey and there was an older gentleman playing the keyboard and singing a few classics. It's safe to say I will be back and that BoMacs is my new favorite restaurant in Cedar Rapids. I cannot wait to recommend it to all of my friends and clients. I let my clients pick where to go for lunch and they chose this place. And what a GREAT choice it was!!! I ended up getting their tenderloin, which I was told by the owner, had been voted the best tenderloin. It was HUGE and extremely tasty. I also got the potato pancakes, which were also extremely tasty. Unfortunately, the tenderloin was so big that I was only able to eat half. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The only person at the table to order pizza, said it was probably the best margarita pizza he's ever had. Lots of great, cold beers on tap. The service was a little slow but nothing that would deter me from coming back. As I mentioned, I got to talk with the owner, who made it a point to stop by our table and thank us for our patronage. Love the outdoor band! Asked the server if I should have my burger cooked medium or medium rare if I want pink in the middle. She said medium rare, my burger came well done, it was a little hard to choke but I didn't send it back. My grilled catfish was really tasty, and the fresh fruit was just that: fresh! Our server was great, and I enjoyed the atmosphere. My only hesitation is that my lunch was $12 ($15 with tip). Just a basic burger was $9. This is more than I want to spend on lunch on a regular basis. read more

Want a quaint homey place to enjoy a bite and some time with friends? This is it. I love that theybrehabbed an old building to keep with the ambiance of the neighborhood. I had the mushroom blue burger, and it was delicious. Lots of mushrooms with the subtle bite from blue cheese. A nice assortment of not your regular sides to choose from. I tried the potato pancakes.. They were good. It could have used a bit of punch. My friend had the breakfast burger. A nice big burger topped with an egg and bacon. He had the sweet potato fries. Very interesting. They were actually cross cut fries with a drizzle of maple syrup. A nice addition and they were fried crispy like they should be. God selection of beers featuring a lot of local brews. Can't wait to return! read more

Went in the "off hours" for our 1st visit. Our server was wearing a mask, the cook had neither a mask or gloves on. While we were waiting for our order, a female walks in back door unmasked, then went to kitchen area to engage in a 10 minute conversation with cook all while talking "over our plates" (buns ready to serve our burgers on). I do not understand how a bar/restaurant can't even do the BASICS to protect a patron who is is trying to support them . All I can think is, what else are they cutting corners on? It's hard to recommend them or think of returning. PS . You can call ahead and ask if a business requires staff to mask but don't count on them to comply. My boyfriend and I went on a Tuesday night. There were several tables being served. They were very attentive to us. I had a Moscow Mule and Matt had Pseudo Sue. We order fried green tomatoes and loved them! I had a salmon burger with potato pancakes. He had the Salmon wrap with sweet potato fries. We both loved what we ordered. Stopped into Bo Mac's for the first time yesterday. The atmosphere was that of an older neighborhood bar - which I like. Good selection of seating - bar, booth, high-tops, and tables. Greeted immediately and seated promptly. Our order was also taken quickly. We went specifically for the tenderloin as I had heard a lot about it. We were not disappointed! It was big enough for two at a reasonable $8.50. The loin was thick enough, juicy, tender and the breading perfectly crispy. It comes with a smaller bun, but if came without one I'd have been just as happy. It also was accompanied by a huge side of fries. I had to ask if they were house-made (they are not) as they too were delicious! Crispy, hot, very well-seasoned and they had a great fresh-potato flavor. We also ordered a side-salad which was really great for $4.50. It was loaded w/ cucumber and tomato. And, the ranch dressing was house-made and delicious! We told our server (possibly an owner) that we planned to split the sandwich. No problem! We received an extra dinner plate without asking for both the salad and a clean one for the sandwich. Nice job Bo Mac's!! Your Bloody Mary needs a little "tweaking" but that's a personal preference - the mix, although flavorful was "thin" - almost watery. And, you need to offer a "snit" (short beer chaser) with it! Overall, Bo Mac's is a great place! We'll definitely be back! read more

Arrived at 6:50pm. We're provided menus right away. I had to flag down a staff about 30 min later to inquire about ordering and even getting water. She said she wasn't our server (but had walked past several times and not acknowledge). by the time we ordered I wasn't able to order take home food because they ran out of food and shut kitchen down. Got a lot of excuses however many people came in after us and were served before us and were able to order burgers (which is what I ordered to go). First experience here. I recently ate at Bo Mac's and had their breaded pork tenderloin. The pork tenderloin was amazing, much thicker than the normal tenderized offering. The side salad that came with the meal could've been a meal in its own right. I asked for a box to take it home. The service was prompt and friendly. I will definitely return here and highly recommend the pork tenderloin sandwich. The only reason I gave it four instead of five stars is the parking leaves much to be desired. read more

My mother and I had lunch at Bo Macs on a Saturday afternoon. We were the only customers there for most of our meal but what a meal. The tenderloin was moist and delicious. My grilled rueben was done to perfection without the usual overload of 1000 island dressing. Sweet pickles were a nice change and the french fries melted in my mouth. My mother had the bread pudding for desert (she loved it) while I had a second Tip the Cow stout. Very friendly staff and no overly loud with TV's blaring. All in all, a great experience. They were cooked to perfection and had a very tasty fry batter that complimented the tomatoes. I ordered the flank steak which was very flavorful and did not require any additional seasoning. I usually put a little salt and pepper on my steak but not this time. Others in my party ordered the chicken pasta which was the special that night. It was pasta in a white cream sauce with peas, bacon and chicken and some garlic foccacia bread on the side. The pasta dish was very good. The chicken was grilled first which gave a bit more flavor and the other ingredients were fresh and tasty.
