Long overdue review.... I've completed about 4 projects at this B&b location. The store front is on the back side of the Chuy's shopping center. There's plenty of parking in the back and you'll approach the store front from this back parking area. The staff has always been amazing. They are patient and cheerful throughout the workshop. The workshops are run like a class and everyone works at the same pace. There are so many different selections so ....tip: review the styles on line so when you register you'll have some options already selected. Plan to be working for about 2-3 hrs. The shop is very welcoming. Beer and wine is included in your workshop fee(approx $35-$68 depending on class and selection. We have often brought in snacks if we have a group event. If you follow their Facebook page, then you will get to see some of their coupons and contests. They also have a loyalty program so if you frequent them you're bound to work towards a free class. read more

3/14/21 I have lived in the Virginia area since 2013 and never once knew about this place let alone drive on the backside of the stores. A lot can be found on the dark side of the moon it appears. Whatever signs you have cut and hammered together can be brought to this shop and be made into a masterpiece(s). Kind of reminds me of Woodwork Shop at The Lab School Of Washington. I don't have any woodwork to be done right now, but when I do, I will be sure to check out this shop. The ambience in this shop is uplifting and I could see the job on some kids faces. We had such a fun time on Cider & Donuts Day in September! This place seriously has everything you could think of, so you can pick your own customized project. Our instructor made things so easy and was able to be helpful while still giving everyone space to do their own thing and talk with friends. I absolutely love this place! Owners Raquel and Andy were very hospitable and fun to work with. They helped guide us through the whole process! The time given was from 1-4pm. I didn't think I'd need that long to work on my wooden craft, but I did! It's definitely enjoyable with a group of friends, talking, mingling, and working on the boards together. Location - I knew the area well and never saw the place from the front. I didn't know there were more businesses back of the plaza. But then again, this place opened about less than two months ago or so. Place - so quaint! Loved how it's better to see the products and artwork in person, rather than online. I feel like getting more projects done with a sign for the bathroom and laundry room. Maybe some seasonal stuff! It almost feels farmhouse-ish, and cozy. Plus the paint stain smell. Cost - it was definitely pricey. I was already committed in going and didn't expect the cost to be a lot. But after going, I justified it as it's worth the money! You're paying for their supplies, the time, they give you complimentary drinks and few snacks. I was able to bring in my outside drink - boba tea. BBF - you can BRING your own food/snacks to eat! No added cost! #winning Employees - are so easy and nice to work with. They are patient and ready to assist as needed! Enjoyed a great evening last night at Board & Brush studio in Fairfax. My stepdaughter had already completed three projects at this location, but I was a raw rookie. Needless to say I was a little overwhelmed by the many project options, stains, finishes, etc. Huge shoutout to our main table support staffer Katie While all of the staff members were friendly and helpful, Katie was amazing! She was efficient, knowledgeable and remarkably patient, as is evidenced by the beautiful and professional looking sign that I took home! Came here yesterday for a work event and I have to say so much about how this was such an awesome experience for me. The place here is awesome, they have a bunch of examples on their walls. As well as great color examples for you to decide on. First off, they are extremely organized here and I know that's why the process of building our boards was so easy. They really make sure you're comfortable and have all the things you need to make sure things aren't too loud or the fumes don't bother you too much. They provide 2 free drinks as a part of your package. It's an awesome time especially if you have a great group. They have good music in the background and it was just an overall great experience to try. The staff is really sweet and easy to work with. They help you throughout the process to make sure you know what you're doing. It's a really great way to have your creative flows going and that's exactly what I did. For someone who would never describe herself as crafty or creative- I left Board and Brush with the confidence to tackle any HGTV project I've seen. Everyone works on their own projects they've selected but the staff makes things easy and is always available to offer advice or lend a hand if you need one. Denise led our class and she was amazing- always checking to see what everyone needed and made you feel like your project couldn't possibly look better. Directions were easy to follow, the environment is fun and light (and includes alcohol). I went with a few girlfriends for a fun night out but this would also be great for a date night or a fun day with kids. The hardest part is selecting which project to do- there are so many great ones! This was a great time- I'll definitely be back! read more

This was my first time going to Brush & Board in Fairfax. What an amazing experience! From the time you walk in the door until the time you leave you are welcomed, encouraged and helped to make a special art piece. The shop is decorated with inspiring pieces and is set up with work areas. Each table seats six so you have plenty of room to work. A helper is also at your table to explain and help.I was a little nervous about using the drills and hammers but it was very easy. A shout out to Rachel who was our helper. She was awesome! This sweet business offers a fun alternative to paint night (though I do love paint night, sometimes you want something different). Here you might be painting, too, but the object might be a sign or some small home accent. They do move you in and out pretty efficiently, which I like. They also offer 30 minute sessions, which helps when you're just busy but still want to squeeze in some time for something fun and crafty. I was nervous about painting my first sign, but all turned out well, especially since I really just used a stencil and a sponge... Anyway, I think this is a great activity for all age groups, all kinds of groups. It could even be a date night activity, though the estrogen was strong when I visited hahaha. The facility was great. Made Beautiful artwork. Everything was nice except our helper/instructor Ainsley was very rude. Yelled at us when she did not give specific instructions and everyone did it wrong. She would do the work for us and not give us time to work on it before doing it for us. We also took a picture with my team and she said we could finish our project after the picture. While taking the picture she took away all of our supplies and we were not able to finish. My friends and I just took part in a class this weekend and had a great time and came away with pretty darn good looking projects. You go online and sign up for the class and let them know which project you'd like to make when you're there. There are a lot of options! The studio is bright and cheerful. The owners and their staff have a ton of energy, enthusiasm, and are great at what they do. They're not joking when they say you'll be put to work but it's fun! A little wood distressing can feel like a good therapy session ;) A few things to keep in mind: 1) the store front is not visible from the road. When you get in the plaza, there's a back end of store fronts. That's where it's located. 2) don't wear clothes you wouldn't mind getting a little dirty. There are aprons but if you're a walking accident like me, paint or wood stain will find you. 3) fumes. The stain has a pretty strong smell but they have masks and keep the door open for ventilation. Also, your project might still smell for a bit once you bring it home. 4) they provide beer, wine, coffee, soda and water. They let you bring food but with all the sawdust and paint, don't know if you want to bring much. My little group brought some snacks and we didn't think to label that it was for our small table and had a few people from other parties take part. Not a huge deal but if sharing with strangers is not for you, might want to write your name on a napkin and keep it nearby or something 5) the class is three hours but there's a good chance it will run over. My friends and I did a zoom project after picking up our kits from the drive up/trunk service. It was wonderful, they really thought of everything to keep clients busy and bring in business during these crazy times. Very much appreciated and worth it. I've already picked out my next three projects. The real compliment is that I live in Springfield, where there is another B&B. My friends and I had such an unfortunate experience "live" there, that we said we'd try Fairfax. Now, this is our locale of choice. And, since we're retired military wives, it's a win/win because we're supporting another retired military family business. read more

AMAZING experience! I have done one other wood project class, and this place was far superior. The location itself is spacious and has a very cute set-up. The best part? The staff members helping are incredibly patient and friendly. Our "helper" was B (can't remember the spelling of her name), and she was so sweet and encouraging to our group. I wasn't quite sure which colors I wanted, and she helped me pick out some which ended up turning out awesome. Be prepared that you will do every step, from sanding, to staining, stenciling, everything. It took us the whole three hours and we stayed over because we got started a little late. They also have complimentary wine or beer which is a plus. I will definitely be coming back! read more

After posting my review below, the owner followed up with me immediately! I was very impressed that they were able to find out who I was and contact me. They are giving me a chance to try them out again( on them) which I thought was extremely generous! I'm looking forward to a better experience next time and added more stars to my review because of the quick follow up! Seems like the owners really want everyone to have a great experience and I appreciate that. I went to a private party that was hosted here. I was really excited because I thought it was going to be similar to muse paint bar. Unfortunately it turned out that it was not totally exclusive to our private party and that it was nothing like muse. This place is extremely unorganized. At first there is someone who walks you through the initial steps via microphone; however it is really hard to hear her. When it came time to stain the wood I was asking for help and our table helper didn't have any suggestions at all! I showed her an example on the wall and instead of leading me in the direction of how to achieve it I basically winged it because of the lack of direction. Then it was time to stencil. There was no direction on how to do this process. I started laying my stencil and another helper who was very condescending, made fun of me in how I placed mine. It really upset me because I hadn't been shown prior to sticking it. If I had, I wouldn't have made the mistake. I corrected my mistake and reattached my stencil. Then it was time to paint. Again, there were zero directions. The same condescending gal comes to our table and says WAY TO MUCH PAINT!!! Way too much paint! Then she corrected us.. after the fact yet again. I was also never shown the paint options prior to painting. After I took my stencil off I realized that they had glitter. I was bumped bc I wanted to add it. I asked my table manager how to do it and she explained that if I wanted to add it I would have to take the risk myself bc I already took my stencil off. I was ok with that but I just needed paper to cover the parts that were not getting repainted. I asked the condescending gal for paper and where I could find glitter. Yet again she was very rude and demanded that I don't do it because my Stencil was already taken off. I of coarse ignored her and did what I wanted anyway! I was happy I did because it turned out the way I wanted. Finally once I was done I asked how to hang it. Basically you have to figure out how to hang it on your own bc they do not give you anything to hang your project! Over all I'm happy with the outcome of my project, but I don't think I would ever go back. They don't help beginners very well and I defiantly think that they could ofer much more direction than they did. You should teach every step properly before execution and unfortunately it was after all the mistakes I made. If you do go here I would recommend asking for a lot of help before executing each step. I think you will like your outcome as I did but really didn't like the way it was run nor did I care for the workers! read more
