The good: - The silks area was a great addition that my kids…read moreenjoyed that the old place didn't have. - The arcade games are set out of sight/out of mind so it's less of a distraction for the kids and keeps them playing, especially since the whole play area is gated off with a chain linked fence now. Additionally, there are a few included screen areas that encourage more active (think Nex Playground style) gaming. - The play areas seem very safe with the right amount of padding, staff enforcement, and enforcement of limits on how many people can be sold a ticket in a given time slot. The bad: - Seems focused on toddlers/younger children than the old location; fewer large obstacle courses, no rock wall, etc. Much smaller overall. - Strange given that, that the zipline prohibits shorter kids from riding if they can't reach the handled unassisted -- yet bigger kids are so tall that their feet almost immediately drag on the drop zone; this need significantly re-engineered - LOTS of slides that WOULD be pretty cool, but they don't have enough of the slide mats for the kids to use, so there's a huge line of kids just waiting to slide who can't because no staff enforce tradeoffs or lines, the same kid can just hang on to a mat in perpetuity - Not enough parent seating; just a few bars, a couple couches, and about 6-7 tables; but TONS of space taken up by party 'rooms' (not really rooms, just open picnic tables along the side walls) many of which weren't being used; needs re-engineered to provide more seating - In general overpriced, which is of course on purpose so they can sell you on the value of a subscription and get that recurring revenue out of you when you forget to cancel! Same for refreshments. - The only entrance/exit through to the mall is from a side door down a sketchy stairwell and through the bowling alley. - One of the front desk staff SMELLED so bad of body odor; it was nose-hair burning and nauseating; even after checking in, when I'd walk within range of the front desk it was so bad you could smell it from across the aisle. - The machine to get a play card for the arcade area was out of service, meaning no one could use the arcade area. Why not just take tokens or regular coins or NFC?

We hadn't seen each other in almost a year, so it was the perfect excuse to catch up while doing something creative. The event was simple and fun. We picked our magnets, selected our paint colors, grabbed some pastries, and spent the next couple of hours painting and chatting. It was such a relaxing way to spend a Sunday morning. Stefani was fantastic, friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. The entire space felt warm and inviting, even for complete beginners. I love that they also offer beginner pottery classes, which I'm already adding to my list for a future visit. It's great to see a pottery studio opening in the area, and I'm excited to support a local business that's bringing creative experiences to the community.

There is something about learning something new, making art (good or bad!), and connecting with neighbors of all walks of life that really fills your cup. The comfy little cabin, green pastures, and little menagerie of horses, baby goats, and llamas helped as well. The Grounds of Livev just opened with plans to expand into an event space, gardening center, and more over the next few years. I am so excited to have found such a wonderful little space that is not too far from home to relax, learn, and grow. We got to meet the owner and several of her family members, and they are very passionate about creating a space for the community. They offer classes for children and adults, so there truly is something for everyone here.

Zack (who showed me the property and set up the reservation) and Cindy (who was on-site manager the day of the event) were very easy to work with. Since, the property is managed by Fairfax County; I never got the feeling that I was being upsold. The space itself has both pros and cons. The cons of the space is that is split into several small to medium sized rooms making it difficult to host a typical style reception (our guests stayed and gravitated outside so we hardly needed the indoor space). You have to bring down the chairs and tables from the top of the stairs (the tables and chairs are included in your rental costs). The Dranesville Tavern only has a cold kitchen (so, if you'd like an event where the cater(ers) are cooking something fresh at your party site this is not the location for you). You must have a license catering (no on-site cooking from the hosts is permitted). You have to pay (and give yourself additional time) to obtain an ABC license from the state of VA. The pros are the outdoor space includes 2 large covered decks on either side of the property. Our party was able to set out the chairs and tables on the deck and our guests brought their food from the buffet (set up in one of the rooms inside). If you're looking for a place with charm the Dranesville Tavern is a nice mixture. It is historic without being small (believe it can hold up to 80 people). It also has a nice rustic feel to it. The exterior of the buliding looked nice in our pictures. The Dranesville Tavern gives you an rain plan. Although we only used the indoor space for a place to store gifts, drinks and the buffet; it was nice to know had it rained that we could still host our guests comfortably. The lawns at the Dranesville Tavern are large and surround the property and although this property is located off a busy road it feels very private. Our party had several lawn games for people to enjoy (making the lawns even more pleasant place to spend an afternoon). There is ample parking (at no additional cost) located next to the property. In a nutshell for the cost and space, if you're looking for a place that feels special without the upcharge; I would suggest looking at the Dranesville Tavern.

But there is a nice porch that over looks a beautiful lawn. There are multiple good sized rooms where you can set up tables for food and seating on both floors. Overall given the reasonable cost, good proximity to Nova/DC, lovely historic building, and abundant parking it was a choice and I would recommend it for small to medium gatherings (30-60 people), particularly in the spring and fall.

I was impressed by the size, cleanliness and functional layout of the community center. There was convenient & easy parking and a large lobby area that draws you back towards diverging hallways with a series of large adjacent rooms for holding community activities and events. For the 2023 Chocolate Festival there was a whole hallway of rooms where the vendors were displaying their delicious chocolate candies & treats that they had for sale! It was a very organized event. All purchases being made with tickets that you bought from the cashiers at a long table in the lobby just around the corner of the hallway. Down the other hallway was a special room set up as a children's game room with arts & crafts and Legos for the kids to build with. My grandchildren loved it! There were benches for relaxing on conveniently placed by the bathrooms. We sat there and shared some of the chocolate treats that we bought! That same day a flute quartet was providing music for the visitors. This was a super fun event. I would gladly return to this venue for other family themed activities.
