When I lived in St Pete I went to my usual fish store to get my saltwater for my tanks. (I have two saltwater fish tanks that I've been very successful with.) Before I moved to fort myers I got saltwater from my usual pet store to use when I got down here. Tanks were reset back up. Everything looked great and thriving and happy. I do my water changes regularly for these tanks to maintain the happy environment for my corals and fish. I recently went to Boardroom Aquatics to get my saltwater on 7/19/2024. I did my normal water change as I regularly do. The following day I noticed my octospawn, anemones, and mushroom were all acting weird. I started to do my water tests to see if any of my levels were high to resolve the issue. All tests came back excellent and no levels spiked to cause my corals to start acting weird. The last thing was for me to check the salinity of the saltwater that I just put into the tank. I checked the salinity of my tank and it was WAY too high. The salinity of my tanks sit at 1.024-1.026, the test results were sitting at 1.031. It may not seem like a drastic difference, but it is. I tested the saltwater that they sold me and it was sitting at 1.030 when they GUARANTEED that their salinity sits at 1.024 (hence why I went there). I called Boardroom Aquatics and informed them that the water they sold me was high in salinity and caused my corals to melt away and die. Once again I was told they keep their salinity at 1.024 and that I was doing the test wrong and getting false readings. They informed me to bring in a water sample into the store for them to test. So I did. ‍ MARK started doing his test that I had done prior and got the SAME results as I did INCLUDING the high salinity level. He kept telling me that he was at a loss cause he doesn't know what was going on in my tank to figure out why my corals have died. He told me there was room for human error, when I did the same I've always done when doing water changes and NEVER had any casualties. After going back and forth with the man, I walked out cause I just lost over $700 worth of corals in ONE tank. Mark was talking at me and not to me, he wasn't willing to accept that HIS business had made a mistake and wasn't willing to do anything to make it right. He kept trying to push the issue back onto me, when my boyfriends a marine biologist and has told me what to do when it comes to the tanks to make sure they stay happy and healthy. My boyfriends also had MANY saltwater tanks and has even had a saltwater fish business. The level on unprofessionalism that happened today was not cute, cool, or even remotely acceptable. No accountably on his end what's so ever. Needless to say, I will never step into that store again. I will never recommend that establishment nor will I ever give them a penny. If you know anything about saltwater tanks; corals, fish, invertebrates are NOT cheap. The two anemones that melted and died due to this equal $600. Not to mention the other corals that I've lost. We have been to this store three times this year. the 1st time we looked around the store 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We bought some small parts and food. the last two times I have been in the store not one person said a single word to me. This last time, and I do mean Last time, I walked a round the whole store and not a single employee spoke to me. not the person on the phone at then counter when I walked in. Not the other person walking around. the story avoiding me. I have been with boardroom for over 10 year. the owner is very knowledgeable he sets you up to become successful in saltwater or fresh wate. The staff is patient and very easy to talk to. I can't say enough about this company if you are looking to start a saltwater or freshwater tank for Room aquatic is where you need to go best in town. There was a young lady at the register,who looked right at me,but decided not to come over. So I finally just left....And I see a worker outside on his phone. Smh. I probably won't be back. Mark is an awesome owner of this shop. I highly recommend going to Frank for all your salt water and freshwater needs. I get my water tested regularly by him to make sure my fish are happy and healthy. He almost always has an answer to what I need to do to fix whatever problem I'm having with my Aquariums. I love that no one there will push unnecessary products on you just to have you spend money. I feel like some local businesses in this hobby do that which I don't feel that way at the store. The shop is very clean and tidy. Everything is organized and priced reasonably. I have sold some fragment coral to Mark for store credit. He gave me a great deal highly recommend if you are in the aquarium hobby to check out the store it is my favorite in town. Lots of beautiful tank set ups to look at in the shop. You can tell Mark and the staff work really hard to make sure all the fish and corals are living In Pristine ecosystems. read more

Little to no customer service skills from the owner or any of the staff. You ask the same question to any of the employees and they all give you a different answer. And double check your receipt before you leave. I was over charged $30 on a single transaction and I've been shopping here for almost 6 months. No idea how many other times they've over charged me without me noticing, and I do believe it is intentional, but that's just my opinion. read more

We spent a lot of money in this store, bought our 175 gallon tank and a Nano tank from them. We returned a faulty light I had purchased from them for the nano tank, after that we were totally snubbed, like we didn't exist! We took our business elsewhere, The Aquarium and Reef store off of Boy Scout and 41 in Fort Myers is great! Very nice and knowledgeable, would recommend them highly! If you live in Cape Coral, the Aquarium and Reef store on Del Prado is great too! We have even found the prices are better at Aquarium and Reef store! read more

I just started up my saltwater hobby again and went to all the stores in the area. This one is 35 minutes from my house and I will only use this fish store. The guy is honest and does not try to up sell you. I went to three other stores and he was the only one that engaged in conversation with me. He also doesn't charge for water testing, while all the other places do. In addition he has the best prices among all the stores. He will spend as long as you need talking to him about any issues. In fact I just started my tank, finally, and I'm adding things and he gave me a coral for free and some dosing stuff I needed for free. He's a great guy and he's the only one I will use around here even though he's 35 mins from me and there is another store 10 mins from me. This store is a prime example of why I like "mom and pop" stores. I had tried to purchase some fish and plants in Naples (where I live) and the level of service at the big box pet stores here was non-existent. There was no one that could answer questions and I was literally told that I needed to come into the store to see what they had because they had no time to do a check of what I was looking for- even though the store is almost always empty. So, I made the one hour trip to Boardroom Aquatics and it was well worth the drive. Not only did they have the fish I was looking for, I also purchased some plants and a snail I have been unable to find, purchased some other supplies I needed and the owner gave me a little gift plant. As a small business owner myself I know this is the way to earn repeat customers and I will certainly go back. The store itself was well stocked with a wide variety of fish, plants, invertebrates and supplies. The fish all looked well cared for, healthy and the store was clean and organized. The owner seemed genuinely interested in getting me what I needed and not just trying to sell me something. I would highly recommend this store. read more

Great fish store! Always an excellent selection on saltwater fish, Corals, tanks, equipment, and freshwater fish. I frequent the LFS's in the are and Boardroom always has by far the best prices, cleanest Saltwater fish and nicest staff. Sometimes the visits are long but you will leave knowing everything you need to know. Definitely worth a stop if you've never been here. read more

Very knowledgeable, good staff, like family, but be patient because they get busy and wait times can be long. They're worth the wait. Fish are actually properly quarantined before being sold. The only aquarium store in SWFL I know of that actually does this right. Constantly shifting stock, always something interesting in the show tanks - fresh and salt. read more
