At around one year old, my dog developed a serious eye condition and was diagnosed by a veterinary ophthalmologist with a cataract caused by a genetic issue and associated inflammation. This is not a minor problem -- it is a painful condition that can lead to permanent blindness and requires specialized treatment and potentially surgery costing thousands of dollars. I contacted Petland expecting them to honor their health guarantee for congenital or hereditary conditions. Instead, they dismissed the diagnosis and refused to provide meaningful assistance. Despite documentation from a specialist, the store would not take responsibility and repeatedly avoided helping resolve the situation. Buying a puppy should not turn into a financial and emotional burden due to genetic disease, especially when the business promotes screened and healthy animals. I feel completely misled and unsupported after the sale. If you are considering purchasing a dog here, be aware that once you leave the store, you may be on your own if a hereditary medical problem appears. The closed sign on the door said sorry we are closed with the clock pointing to 12 being the time the store would open, we arrived at 1pm with no one to be found. We came to gulf coast specifically to spend some time with the puppies so we walked around a while longer than came back around 2pm. Still closed. We the. Walk around yet again and come back at 3:30ish and finally the store is open. We go in and there is only one staff member who did not converse at all other than the initial hello. We start looking at the puppies and immediately notice they are all absolutely covered in urine and poop. None of them had any bed, there was not water in any of the bowls when we initially walked in, the staff member was using a dirty old mop to mop up the urine from all the stalls without any soap and dripping water all over the floors while doing so. Never once did I see her go into any of the stalls to properly clean the messes. Also they had ZERO POTTY PADS, they are simply left to use the bathroom on the floor and then live in the half cleaned up filth. The stench hits you as soon as you walk in and these poor babies all have crunchy and wet fur from living in their own filth. Truly a terrible establishment, I will never be back and shame on the owners for letting these babies live in these conditions. No toys, no bed and no cleanliness. Just heartbreaking.
