So go in for a drink but took awhile to get service. Once I get my drink a patron started spewing political garbage along with racist crap. I did look at the guy who then stated "Oh I'm sorry I hurt your feelings" more words were exchanged including me wanting to know if I could just drink a drink without hearing this stupid sh*t. The patron then asked if I wanted to do something about it, at which time the bartender said that he had been there a long time. So warn me about how long he has been there but don't do the responsible thing and cut him off, and just keep over serving. Dive bars (in the best sense of the colloquialism) are surprisingly few and far between in my new nabe of greater Oxford. Most places cater to a casual dining crowd, chain or otherwise, or Bham wannabes. But once in a while a gem is hiding in plain sight. Call it dive bar, road house, old man bar or whatever the Boat Bar is IT! Certainly passed by those not in the know it's shabby exterior hides a diamond in the rough. The outside suggests the " after picture" after a bad winter storm. A worn sign and siding, challenging parking lot filled mostly with pickup trucks backed in and pot holes, first impressions can be.... misleading-ish. Inside you'll find a cavernous bar and dining room that was dropped out of a 50's b movie bar set aside from the Keno and TV screens. Pool tables, shuffleboard (a, personal fave) and a slew of video games start ticking all the boxes. A stage that looks like it rocks sat silent but I'm sure later that night it cooks! (Classic rock according to a regular) no surprise there. Being the Boat Bar there's little nautical about the place except for the view of the lake and some old salts at the bar! Rumor has it that the upstairs used to host patrons of " the world's oldest profession" although I find it hard to believe there was a farm up there...So R Dub and I took our seats at the bar and settled in. Bloody Marys were our drink of choice and what a bloody Mary they make. Pint glass, great bloody Mary recipe with olives, a dill pickle, lemon, lime spices on the rim and..... wait for it..... crispy bacon on top! Distill my heart I'm in drink heaven! I had a second just to be sure the drinks were consistent and bingo another winner! RW (who had a beer chaser with her bloody, how cool is that!) gave two thumbs up also. Not wanting to live on bloodys and liquid bread alone we ordered wings. Now I'm a wing purist. These were good but obviously out of a bag and breaded. But certainly hot and spicy. Double bonus! Walked in like 2 minutes,before miggy Cabrera- got his 3000th hit, for tigers. Watched it inside on tv- then headed out to patio. 80 degree April Saturday- overlooking a semi huge lake, with early season boaters. Very average bar food! Shared a fish sandwich,with cheese, basket of coconut shrimp- lots of fries. Added in couple of beers. Good service. Up charge, if you use a credit card. read more

my boyfriend and i came across this bar staying in our airbnb near by and decided to try it. It looked a little run down but the view of the lake was nice. We sat ourselves outside on the patio where you can smoke apparently, and just the walk from the front door to the patio was no man's land, the clientele here is awful and we genuinely did not feel safe. These group of what i can assume are regulars kept hollering over at our table asking if they can have our food (clearly a joke but still annoying), where we're from (a big city) , then once we tell them they said "oh good luck around here!" then we got basically attacked by a family of bees which caused us to go inside and close our tab and leave. We already knew we weren't gonna be there for long the second we walked in the door. When cashing out some random oldhead barfly said "throw our drinks on their tab!" my boyfriend chuckled, i said nothing obviously. he then goes "oh but she didn't smile as much as you did.." i look over at him, and just look back. We could tell all eyes were on us for some reason. Don't even waste you time coming here, take your money absolutely any place else! I will say the people who work there are friendly and the food wasn't that bad. read more

Overall, this is a decent place to grab a couple of drinks with friends. It's a hole in the wall local place where everyone probably knows each other. I'm not from the area so it was all new to me. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. We ordered appetizers and they were sufficient. I'd definitely go back again as my friend lives down the road. read more

5 star all the way. This is an up and coming dive bar! The take credit cards have great live bands on the weekend. Have daily specials. Did I mention they are Right on the lake!!! If you want to have great food with your loved ones and watch the sunset on the lake from the deck, this is the perfect place! Speakers outside ensure a vibrant atmosphere. Could be a really cool dive bar. It's on Bald Eagle Lake , and has so much potential. The owner wouldn't have to change it where it didn't appeal to the current regulars. But I don't think they would mind a little fixing up. Reface the outside of the building to start. Then hire a real cook instead of having the bartender doing all the cooking and waiting tables. Of course I've heard the owner is a jerk to wOrk for. Employee turnover is very high. read more
