I had a wonderful experience staying on the Minnow! The boat was pristine and well appointed. The harbor is secure, and my sister and I felt very safe during our stay. Shaun is a consummate professional. She was happy to answer my many questions and provide recommendations on what to do in the area. There are a ton of Shelter Island restaurants and bars within walking distance of the harbor. This was hands down a fantastic, restorative experience. My husband and two friends stayed on Ohana over Labor Day weekend. From the moment we arrived Shaun was amazing. She is a wonderful host and went above and beyond what we expected. She is a true professional and more importantly a kind human. The location and marina are amazing. Clean, safe, easy to find. The residence and other guest of the marina were also friendly, respectful and we didn't have any disturbances of any kind. Ohana will not disappoint. The boat is perfect for four and would have been just as well with six guests. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you may need. We're looking to rent a boat to spend a few days on during the pandemic. We spoke to someone on the phone and asked if I could come see it first. I saw the boat and asked how much I was given a price sheet and told it's there according to the date. $295 per night (not cheap). I told her we'll take it. She brought back paperwork for me to sign which says $350 per night. I said why? She said that's an old price on the sheet. She didn't honor the price listed. She wouldn't budge. She acted as if she doesn't want the business and would rather leave the boat sitting there not rented. I left very disappointed. In this day and age, when business is down and people hurt for money, this behavior is hard to understand. She was like take it or leave type attitude. read more

What an absolutely awesome idea. It is quite affordable and do different and better feeling than staying at a hotel. And the discounts at all the restaurants and awesome. Bali Hai is an institution, and it's just a short walk away. Can't beat the view. Never ever will I stay in a traditional hotel room, when I can stay on a beautiful boat. Everything was super clean. Ahoy! We stayed on Slipaway - it was a mixture of exhilarating (like finding a chest full of pieces of eight) and disappointing / painful (like being whipped and keelhauled). THE GOOD - 1) cool boat (wood, overall condition, old style), 2) nice location, 3) great history of having sailed around the world, 4) movie made about the boat, 5) good customer service by Shaun. THE BAD AND UGLY - 1) very smelly which made the night uncomfortable (urine/feces smell all night long - the head must be broken, or poorly maintained - yechh), 2) no shower on board, and 3) somewhat expensive (compared to what you would get in a comparable hotel room or B&B). Glad we did it, just for the experience, but would only do it again if NO bad smell and if price was lower. See ya on the high sees mates! Arrrhhh! Yo ho! read more

We loved our three nights aboard the Czech Mate! The boat is well appointed with a large main stateroom with an en suite head that even has a tub; small guest cabin that would be perfect for a couple of young kids; guest head; DirectTV and DVD players in the salon and main stateroom connected to a stereo system that also includes a yacht-wide speaker system. The galley has all the essentials and Shaun had it well stocked with fruit, yogurts, juice, coffees, and seasonings for cooking. I'm 6'3" and this boat left me plenty headroom in the salon, stateroom and both heads. This boat even has nice showers so you don't have to walk up to the marina restrooms unless you need more room or water pressure. There is a great little gas grill on the stern rail that we used for a couple of ribeyes and asparagus. If you want to grill for more than two, there's a bbq area a short walk from the boat in the marina. We spent much of our time up on the fly bridge which always had a great mix of sunny and shady spots--eight people could easily enjoy a happy hour up there. If you are a sun worshiper, there's a great padded spot on the bow with room for two. The Czech Mate (and all of Shaun's fleet--we looked at them all) was immaculately well maintained. Our only complaint was the very heavy door with a fussy latch. My wife (no weakling) generally couldn't open it without help. The marina includes a laundry, restrooms with showers, and a small gym. The men's room could use a bit of a rework. There are only two toilet stalls and one of them is part of an ADA toilet and shower area. The marina is a short walk from about a dozen great restaurants, live music at Humphrey's, and fishing from the pier (be sure to stop at Fathom for a craft beer). I LOVE Shelter Island! I can't wait to come back and try another one of Shaun's beautiful yachts. read more

After seeing a TV spot on Boat BnB it looked so intriguing that I decided to book a recent 4 night stay. Two days before, the owner called to say that the boat I had selected had unresolved electrical problems so it would not be available. I was disappointed, but we were offered an upgrade for the same dates so accepted. It was fine. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the new experience of staying on a boat. Any needs were quickly resolved by the owner, Shaun, who brought in a toaster and even a yoga mat! The staff is friendly and accommodating and the area is perfect for walking and dining. Our family has stayed on 2 different boats in the BNB fleet and just booked our 3rd! The accommodations have all been clean, stocked with the needed supplies, and just plain awesome! Nothing beats coffee or a cocktail on the deck of a boat with the calm sounds of the water. Our kids have enjoyed the ocean life we've seen from the boat, especially the sea lions and dolphins. I can't think of a more relaxing way to spend a weekend than sitting on the back of a yacht with a drink in my hand, a fishing line in the water, and some good music playing in the background. And Boat Bnb has the perfect set up for those of us without a yacht of our own. Everything was ready for us when we showed up, all we had to do was put our stuff away and start enjoying the perfect San Diego weather. The Slipaway is a beautiful nautical sailboat....its comfortable it's roomy and cozy. The beds are very comfortable, the evenings are peaceful and quiet . All the amenities are there and very nice items for breakfast. There's no worries about being seasick since you are docked at a marina the water is very smooth. Great experience, the yacht was very clean and nice. Beautiful polished wood. Some of the cushions were stained though. Master bed was VERY comfortable, more comfortable than my bed at home, and my wife said the same thing. We also liked the small spaces which made for a more intimate experience for our family. Coming through the tiny doors and poking my head through the hatch, I felt like a hobbit! The boat we had slip away had everything you need to cook although we ate out. Plenty of space for additional guests to sleep if you need that. We also thoroughly enjoyed hearing the shrimp crackling and popping at night. Major negative for this boat was bad smell from the toilet after flushing, also somewhat difficult to flush. We would use the boat bnb again thoug, cheers! read more

I was fortunate to win a weekend on the Slipaway. What a treat! My girlfriend and I had a blast hanging on the boat this past weekend. Besides the boat being in great shape it is in a great location. We were in walking distance to many restaurants and a great concert venue. The management was great to deal with and would recommend the Slipaway and other rental opportunities with this group. We loved our stay on slip away. We know what its like to be on a boat. When reading negative reviews about no shower on the boat I kinda laugh, it will never be comfortable and the showers at the marina were awesome. Thats what you do when on a boat, i agree about the smell, but we figured quickly out that it was the toilet in the bathroom close to the bedroom. We didnt use that one any more since there is one in the front of the boat too that did not have that problem. Hey we used to go on a bucket cause our boat didnt have a toilet....... i thought it was very romantic, during the day we did daytrips and at night we cooked and had wine on the deck. We only met Shawn briefly and she seemed very nice, her helper did a great job showing us around, he was super nice! read more

The location is fantastic. What ruined the weekend was the Bali Hai next door holding outdoor wedding parties every night with DJ, loud bass-thumping disco music, and loud drunk screaming people that went on for hours and hours and hours. What a fantastic vacation! We stayed on the Slipaway for a week and loved every moment of it! What a beautiful way to experience San Diego. In the evenings music drifted over from the Bali Hai restaurant or from an outdoor concert and we sat back and enjoyed boat watching /people watching over a glass of wine on the deck of the Slipaway. Watching the Fireworks from nearby Sea World capped off the night...what a relaxing way to end a day of sightseeing, beachcombing and exploring the city. In July of 2015 my family spent 10 nights aboard Silver Cloud. This was our second time spending our vacation aboard one of boat bed & breakfast's yachts. Shaun and her team do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. The boats are immaculate and the Shelter Island Marina where the boats are moored is a fantastic location. The marina shower and laundry facilities are first class. We previously stayed on Slip Away and that stay was just as fabulous. We stayed aboard one of boat BNB's yachts for my son's 30th birthday. Our family is very close knit and has been through a lot of stress and difficult times so we were all looking forward to this weekend. After driving three hours to get there, I got onboard the boat and Shaun was showing my son around. Some of his friends mentioned it was his 30th birthday. I made the statement that I couldn't believe he was already 30 years old. Shaun's reply was "time to cut the umbilical cord, Mom!" I can assure you that this statement not only hurt because she has no idea what our family had been through but it was degrading and insulting considering she didn't even know me. I have to say that although the boat was literally almost perfect, that comment ruined the entire weekend for me. We were the clients and to degrade someone like that in front of others was completely unacceptable. read more

Be sure to purchase travel insurance! We did not and 3 weeks prior to our reservation my husband was hospitalized with life-threatening illness. Notified Shaun as soon as we got out of the hospital but she would not refund any deposits (even the extra fees for 2 extra guests who of course did not arrive) since this was supposed to have been a 70th birthday party for my husband. (She did offer alternate dates 3 weeks after hospitalization but it was too soon for husband to travel.) I wrote an extended letter and called, but Shaun never answered me. I was very disappointed in lack of customer service. Really wanted to stay on the boat! Wish she could have found a way to work with me. In summary, purchase travel insurance to cover any unexpected cancellation event. read more
